At the Delaware Beaches….in Rehoboth Beach…you will find Addy….My Rescue….

The following post I wrote just after I got Addy in May but I still feel the same way as when I wrote it.

I was ready to get another dog.  It has been years, actually, 7 years since our last dog, Koko, a Springer Spaniel, died.  I decided that this time I wanted to adopt a dog and give him or her, the love that they deserved.  Since I am the one in the family that will take care of the dog, I would make that decision.

I went on the internet and started looking on all the local rescue organizations including the SPCA.  I found Paws of Tomorrow, Inc., which was local since they were from Ocean View, Delaware, just about 2 miles west of Bethany Beach. I found Addy on their website and thought she could be the one.  Paws of Tomorrow does not have a physical place of business, but they foster their animals, give them the medical care they need and try to find them a forever home.  They were hosting an event in Bethany Beach and Addy was coming from Pennsylvania where she was being fostered.

This was a sort of a meet and greet day.  The adoption would take place the following day at the Nuts for Mutts Adoption Day.  Well, when I saw her she looked prettier than in the pictures.  Believe me, she is a mutt and her colorings and markings say it all.  She even has a black heart on her left leg.  But, oh no!! There was a woman there also to see Addy.  Hmmm, she liked her too much, as well.  I gave her my number and she called me the next day and could not take her, so I went back to the adoption day and got her.

I don’t know Addy’s story.  All I know is that she came from North Carolina.  In North Carolina, the way that these dogs are euthanized, I understand, is by gassing them.  Delaware does not allow that.

Addy is going to be 2 years old in October and weighs about 23 pounds.  She has adjusted so well to our home and our neighborhood.  Everyone loves her and she is so well behaved.

Every day she looks forward to her walks.  At the beginning  she was looking at the birds and squirrels with great interest.  Now she is used to them.

Even though we have had her just for 6 months, I can tell that Addy is a great addition to our family. She had her name as Addie originally, but since she came from the Bethany Beach area, I changed the spelling to Addy, like the Addy Sea Bed & Breakfast.  But why keep talking about her?  Here is her picture.  Don’t you love her?

Hi: It was good to see you drive by. One of my childhood friends is coming tomorrow for an overnight with her husband. I have not seen her in about 30 years. She is also a friend of the ones I saw in Florida, when I was just there. We are all reconnecting. See you,
