The Feast of the Seven Fishes, Christmas Tradition, The Room at Cedar Grove, Lewes, Delaware, Paul Cullen, Delaware Beaches

Many traditions during the Holidays and a favorite is visiting Longwood Gardens. It gets you in the Christmas Spirit.

I am originally from Puerto Rico and they celebrate Christmas and Three Kings Day. Typical foods like roasting pig and blood sausages. Hey, I know what you are thinking but let me tell you they are good.

One tradition that I had heard was The Feast of the Seven Fishes. I have never attended such a feast. In Italian it is called Festa dei Sette Pesci. It is held in many Italian/American households prior to Christmas Eve.

Our local celebrity, Paul Cullen, was celebrating The Feast of the Seven Fishes at The Room at Cedar Grove located at 32882 Cedar Grove Rd., Lewes, DE. This event venue owned by Paul holds concerts, dinners, and a market. Check him on all Social Media. Or http://Www.paulcullen.rocks

Look at our table. So much fun. Bonnie, Paul’s wife, at the head of the table while Paul, Nina and the rest helped with our feast. Great way to meet new people, that’s a given.

And what did we all have in common? A love for food. All were foodies, passionate for interesting offerings. We were ready ?

The starter was Baccola or Cod. Deliciously salty.

All dishes were accompanied by a wine that would complement our food.

Our second dish was baked clams.

Our third dish was fish.

Our fourth dish was pasta with shrimp. This pasta was excellent, so much so I forgot to take a photo. This photo was taken by Minnie Waters Shorter.

Our fifth dish was scallops over creamy polenta. very good, as well.

Our 6 dish was the meatballs or I should say fishballs. Paul said it was his traditional meatball recipe made with fish instead.

Our last dish was a chocolate mousse with a dessert wine as Paul serenaded us with a private concert.

It was a lively bunch at dinner. No loss for conversation. Laughter, stories of travels, the foods we love.

Food serves as a way for people to come together. That’s exactly what we did at Paul’s Kitchen & Cullen-ary Company.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year.

Sea Witch Festival, Halloween, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Annual Event, vendors, Music, Parades, Monsters on Parade, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

A beautiful weekend after the rain and wind event in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The Sea Witch Festival went on and my favorite day was Sunday with the Monsters on Parade taking place on the Boardwalk. Tons of competitors and a very well behave group of dogs.

There was music at the Bandstand and plenty of vendors too.

People in costumes and these two were my favorites.

Plan for next year. For me will be making a reservation at The Boardwalk Plaza for outdoor seating on the Boardwalk to sip Bloody Marys as the parade passes by.

Great to see so many smiling faces. This is the way it should be.

Love this time of the year. Have a great day.

Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Step Back In Time, Rehoboth Beach in the 1950s and 1960s, Sock Hop, Rehoboth Beach Museum, Event, Music, Dancing, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

The Rehoboth Beach Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Right by the roundabout and the Chamber of Commerce.  It is a small museum full of the history of Rehoboth Beach.  I always tell my guests that it is worth going because it tells you how this much loved town was and where it is going.  Throughout the year there are events and exhibits.

Step Back in Time when the members and friends of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society are invited to revisit Rehoboth Beach in the 1950s and 1960s by attending a Sock Hop on Saturday, September 29th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Museum.

If you are too young to know what this is, local teens once delighted in the summertime Wednesday night “boardwalk dances” held at the foot of Rehoboth Ave., and the colder -weather “sock hops” held in the high school cafeteria.  Year round, Snyder’s soda fountain shop on the Avenue was the place to be.  As a local hang out for several generations, cherry and vanilla cokes and the house specialty “Bon Bons” are unforgettable sweet treats synonymous with Snyder’s.

Participants are encouraged to wear their dancing shoes (or go boardwalk barefoot style) and dance to oldie selections spun by a local DJ.  Requests will be taken.  Acceptance is limited.  There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted and appreciated.  Please call the Museum at 302-227-7310 to reserve your spot.

Have a great time….This is the Second Season in Rehoboth Beach and not to be missed!!

Rehoboth Beach Eats! Blackwall Hitch, Restaurant, Review, Bar, Sunday Brunch, Live Music, Inside The Glass Dinner Series, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Welcome to the Beaches

DSCN4604

It is the perfect time of the year to try one of Rehoboth Beach’s restaurants that opened this year. The summer crowds are gone. Locals come out and not having to pay for parking is a blessing.

So nice to get together with Debbie and Jody….birthday girl was Debbie.  Arriving early at Blackwall Hitch located at 52 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-226-0550.  Website? http://www.theblackwallhitch.com/rehoboth

DSCN4606

Blackwall Hitch looks amazing inside.  Plenty of tables, comfortable enough that you are not on top of each other.  It is so well appointed, very chic indeed.

DSCN4605

DSCN4609

The expansive bar is on the other side.  From Wednesdays through Sunday live music begins at 9:30 p.m. until 12:30 p.m.  For more info. on who is playing, please visit http://www.theblackwallhitch.com/rehoboth/live-music

DSCN4608

Starting with The Blackwall Salad of mixed field greens, grape tomatoes, cukes, red onion and carrots, tossed with their signature house vinaigrette.  A simple salad with flavor and big enough to share.  I could have had a different starter but after eating my way through Portland, it was best to keep it low cal, if you get my drift.

DSCN4611

The Chicken Lemongrass Soup was loved by Debbie and Jody…roasted chicken, lemongrass, celery and onions topped with a fried veggie dumpling.

DSCN4610

People are talking about their Fish Tacos and our taco connoisseur, Jody, was the one to try them.  She said they were amazing, full of flavor.  Blackened Cajun Mahi-Mahi served in soft taco shells with spicy slaw, roasted corn salsa, avocado, feta cheese, pico de gallo and avocado sour cream, served with a side of herb pearled couscous.

DSCN4614

My Striped Bass was delicious, as well.  It was pan seared served with a chayote squash salad and lime butter sauce.

DSCN4613

Debbie’s Salmon Kale Salad was colorful…Grilled Atlantic Salmon, basil oil and kale salad with roasted red beets, mango, and candied walnuts tossed in their poppyseed lemon vinaigrette.

DSCN4612

No dessert was necessary even though there was plenty of temptation like Sminth Island Cake, Chilled Key Lime Panna Cotta, Monkey Bread, Chocolate Flourless Torte, Pineapple Upside Down Skillet Cake, Chocolate Truffles and more.  But we were so good.  Only coffee and tea, please.

Our server was attentive, more than attentive if I should say so.  It is feast or famine, some don’t care and others care too much.

Every Sunday there is brunch beginning at 10 a.m.  For more info. please visit http://www.theblackwallhitch.com/rehoboth/sunday-brunch

DSCN4607

Wednesday, October 5th Blackwall Hitch Presents – Inside The Glass.  This is their inaugural event of Dinner Series.  These dinners will take place the first Wednesday of the month and will feature a specially crafted chef’s dinner.  Multi-course dinners will be paired with drinks.  4 p.m. until 10 p.m.  Reservations are recommended.  This first dinner will feature a 4-course craft beer dinner menu.  Please check their Facebook Page for more information.

Blackwall Hitch offers other menus as well:  Gluten Free Menu, Kids Menu, Happy Hour Menu, Late Night Menu…just check their website above mentioned and click Menu.

So what can I say about our dining experience?  We loved the atmosphere, and the food was very good.  I had been told that it was pricey, but we found that it was a la par to all other restaurants in Rehoboth Beach at that level.

Dinner is even better when we eat together, catching up is always priceless with Jody and Debbie.

Theater at the Beaches, Shakespeare, Cymbeline, Brown Box Theatre Project, Sixth Annual Free Shakespeare at the Beach

FullSizeRender (287)

It was getting dark and the perfect time of the evening for Shakespeare’s Cymbeline.  I was attending this production by Brown Box Theatre, brining free theatre to the Delmarva.  This is the Six Annual Free Shakespeare at the Beach. Nothing better than enjoying a production under the stars, and on this particular night at Tower Road with one of the WWII towers paying attention.

FullSizeRender (286)

Meet Kyler Taustin…Hometown?  Ocean City, Maryland…He is the founding artistic director of Brown Box Theatre Project.  He has directed all of the past Brown Box Theatre Project’s productions including all past 5 previous performances of the Annual Free Shakespeare at the Beach.  Once again he has done so with Cymbeline.

FullSizeRender (291)

Brown Box Theatre Project began in 2009.  Their productions take place in intimate theatres throughout Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland and beyond.  Their mission is to “create high-quality theatre and deliver their work directly to communities to expand the reach of impactful professional performing arts”.

On Monday, September 12th, Shakespeare’s Page to Stage Workshop led by Brown Box Theatre Project will take place from 3 – 4 p.m.  This is an adult workshop.  Then from 4:30 – 5:30 the teen workshop will take place.  It is free and you still have time to pre-register by calling 302-645-2733.

On Saturday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m. this outdoor production will be behind the Lewes Library located at 111 Adams Ave. on the lawn in Lewes. Remember to bring your lawn chairs and blankets.  Please check their schedule at http://www.brownboxtheatre.org/schedule.html.

And for more information about Brown Box Theatre Project, please visit http://www.brownboxtheatre.org.

If you are hesitant about understanding a Shakespeare production, this particular one is very easily understood.  Kyler has made a point to make sure his audience captures the essence of the play.

FullSizeRender (288)

We thoroughly enjoyed it.  Hope you put it on your social calendar!!  I mentioned above that it is free of charge, but at the end of the performance donations are much appreciated.

Cymbeline “is one of Shakespeare’s rarely produced works.  It is an algamation of romance, ferocity, intrigue, and fancy, all  in one play”.

Have a good one!!

What’s Going On? Puttin’ On The Ritz, Event, 23rd Year Anniversary Celebration, Fun-Fundraising, Atlantic General Hospital, Meet Me at the “Speakeasy”, Berlin, Maryland, Maryland’s Eastern Shore

DSCN3464

I could not believe it!! No rain! Can you imagine?  We have been so inundated with rain that I was not sure how this event was going to turn out.  But, as it happens, on Thursday, May 19th, the skies were clear, the moon and the stars were out and the location was mesmerizing.

DSCN3426

It was going to be a celebration of the 23rd year anniversary of Atlantic General Hospital located at 9733 Healthway Dr., Berlin, MD 21811.  Tel. 410-641-1100.  Website?  http://www.atlanticgeneral.org.

We were meeting at the “Speakeasy”, where the event was taking place.  This is the farm of the Host and Hostess, Mr. & Mrs. Buddy Jenkins.  Atlantic General has been celebrating its anniversaries with an annual event.  Fun and Fundraising for the hospital.  This year’s theme was the Roaring 20’s and with 500 people of their supporters, family and friends in attendance it was certainly a memorable evening.

DSCN3435

DSCN3430

Most of the attendees wore 1920’s dress code…..long pearls, fringes…it was a time of excess.  Games and crafted cocktails.  You picked your own glass at the entrance and fill it to your hearts desires.  The tent was huge and it was very well appointed.  The center pieces were gorgeous, as well.  No detail was left out.

LA Catering from Liquid Assets located at 94th & Coastal Highway in Ocean City, Maryland did a spectacular job with their catering.  Besides their restaurant in Ocean City their catering side of it can work magic for any of your events, small or large.  As you can see they fed 500 and there was no shortage of food throughout the evening.  Tel. 410-524-7037  Website?  http://www.ocliquidassets.com.

We are located on the eastern shore so seafood is regarded as a main staple at events.  Surrounding the Speakeasy there were stations where attendees could fill their plates and come back for more.

Dessert!!  That sweet ending that completes a meal….Have you had the doughnuts made in house at Liquid Assets?  They are to die for.  At the event they gave them a little twist.  You could customize them.  They were warm, perfect to hold in one hand or on your plate and then the sweet condiments on top.

DSCN3441

DSCN3442

I took a look at the cakes….could they possibly be the cakes that have been the talk of the town?  Yes!!  I could not believe it.  I am going to learn more about the two guys that are from Brooklyn and call themselves the Brooklyn Baking Barons.  The cakes featured the other night were Honey Whiskey Cakes, accompanied by local strawberries.  They were so good that at the table we all went back for seconds.  They are the perfect size…guilt free shall we say?  They will be opening a store front in Berlin, I believe on or around Memorial Week-End.  Check them on Facebook.  From their website they ship nationwide.  http://www.bkbarons.com.

DSCN3440

Cannot wait to taste a new flavor….the Limoncello Cake with homemade Limoncello….Justin Noble, a friend of theirs said this new cake is out of this world.

It is that time of the year to fund raise at the Maryland and Delaware Beaches.  People have big hearts here.  Lucky to call it home!!

Wearing the T-Shirt volunteers and runners celebrated the Super Heroes in their lives!!  The Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5 K Fun Run/3 K Walk is an annual event that has been taking place in Downtown Bethany Beach, Delaware on Mother’s Day Week-End.  Every year more and more people register to honor someone and have the opportunity to spend some time at the beach.

DSCN3344_00

It is a relaxed race and walk.  The Founder and Chair is Ann Raskauskas and the Co-Chair is Carol Hartnett.  The event just took place last week-end, but pretty soon plans for next year’s event will be taking place.  The website is http://www.bethanybeachbreastcancer.com.

DSCN3346_00

If you have been at the Delaware Beaches you know we have had an amazing amount of rain this week.  But, it just so happened that last Saturday early in the morning the clouds broke and we even saw sunshine for a little bit of time while the race and walk took place.  The Boardwalk in Bethany was the meeting place and look how pretty the ocean looked!!

The Green Smoothie is so delicious and refreshing.  It has banana, mango, pineapple, spinach and spirulina….also they will add yogurt, as well, but you can have it without.  Spirulina is a microalgae that has high nutritional value and health benefits.  It is is considered a super food.
