Blue Moon, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, American Food, Nate on the Keys, Magnolia, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Summer at the Beaches

Seems we go to Downtown Rehoboth Beach on Wednesdays. Middle of the week, not too many people, praying for that. Weekends are impossible. So many restaurants to try and to go back. Have not been to all. The meters drive me insane.

Our choice? Blue Moon. This restaurant has been in Rehoboth Beach for so many years. It is located at 35 Baltimore Ave. Tel. 302-227-6515. Website? http://www.bluemoonrehoboth.com

You can make a reservation for the dining room or you can do like we do and make a high top reservation for the bar. You can enjoy a full menu there, as well. From Sunday through Thursday Nate on the Keys is playing. He brings his guests too. Check their website as the second season has started.

The bar area is fun with a diverse group of customers. One thing we all have in common is eating good food, having good service and the enjoyment of live music.

Magnolia was in the house. She sang with Nate and they were so funny together. Her last show, Games with Magnolia was Thursday. Things change a little during the second season.

One appetizer I always ordered and at times that is my dinner is the Tuna Carpaccio. #1 tuna, garlic aioli, shallot, lemon, olive oil and chives. So good on a hot summer night at the beach.

I love octopus so an order for the table of the Crispy Octopus was a must. Shareable too. The octopus was crispy on the outside and very soft in the middle. The chorizo gave the fingerlings and white beans a tasty flavor. And, the chimichurri added even more flavor and color.

Usually we have drinks and appetizers and continue on to try other places to eat in Rehoboth, but Wednesday we decided to stay. The food coming out looked amazing.

The Duck Breast was an entree, ordered medium rare. It has those delicious fingerlings, french beans, and a blueberry compote. Definitely well received.

I have not had anything blackened in a long time. My choice was the Blackened Sea Bass, over Carolina grits, baby carrots and peas. I was between that and the swordfish but once I saw the grits on the menu, it was a done deal. I would suggest to them to have these grits as a side dish so they are always available. I could have had a bowl. If you are there, this is one dish I would suggest you order if you like seafood.

Life continues at the beach in spite of the fact that the world is going to pieces. Fires, storms, floods, world unrest. This is a special weekend remembering the time when our innocent as a country was lost.

We have a lot of venues that offer live music. Bob Marley quoted “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”.

Have a nice weekend and remember AboutMyBeaches has its own page on Facebook. There and here the purpose is to promote our beaches, to find out about events, restaurants, reviews, where to shop and what to cook for dinner.

Henlopen City Oyster House, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Dine-In, Curbside PickUp, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Henlopen City Oyster House is located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware at 50 Wilmington Avenue. It is one of the few restaurants that, at this time of the year, are open for lunch and dinner. It closes on Tuesdays.

Website? http://www.hcoysterhouse.com

We sat at the oyster bar. Perfect seating watching the guys shucking oysters. We had 3 varieties….the saltier the better in my book.

You see that glass of wine there? We asked for a suggestion of what would pair well with the oysters. It was called Barbara Ohlzelt and it is a Gruner Veltliner type of wine from Austria. It was perfection with our oysters and seafood choices.

A New England Clam Chowder was ordered. It had plenty of clams, smoked bacon, potatoes and veggies. Look how good it looked.

Up and down the beaches I have my favorite restaurants for a particular food. Henlopen City Oyster House is a favorite of mine for scallops. Any which way they fix them, I love them. Always perfectly cooked. So my choice last night was Seared Massachusetts Scallops with saffron migas, tangerine-meyer lemon emulsion, butternut squash, and sage and speck. Speck is a pork fat with or without some meat in it. It is sort of a type of prosciutto. My review? Excellent!!

I usually rave about the grilled octopus in another local restaurant in town. So I was very excited when the Grilled Octopus was order at Henlopen City Oyster House. I tasted a little bite and it was up there with my other favorite one. Tender and very well seasoned. Braised in red wine, with bay water purple sweet potatoes, bravas sauce, crispy capers, olive oil and parsley. Both the octopus and the clam chowder were appetizers that were ordered as a main entree.

Even through a Pandemic, Rehoboth Beach continues to be a foodie’s destination with our restaurants offering really good food. There is something for everyone in this town.

AboutMyBeaches has a Facebook Page. Leave me a message will you?

AboutMyBeaches, The Talk of Delmarva, WGMD, Bob Yesbek, Rehoboth Foodie, Food, Radio Talk Show, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Hello there. It is Saturday, January 9th. Life continues as it should and here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, we continue to experience great food even through a pandemic.

The Rehoboth Foodie, our local celebrity when it comes to restaurant reviews has a weekly radio show on 92.7 FM where he invites guests and have a one on one chat. I was honored to have been invited for today’s show. It will take place at 2 p.m. If you are a local then you can tune in but you can also stream it on http://www.wgmd.com.

A podcast will also be available after the broadcast at http://www.rehobothfoodie.com/PODCASTS.

My talk with Bob included the traditions of my Puertorican heritage. It was Three Kings Day or the Epiphany when we taped so I was able to bring him some pasteles, fried plantains, mojito, arroz con gandules (pigeon peas) and Puertorican famous Coquito which the eggnog.

It was a lot of fun and I got to know Bob better and experience his sense of humor.

Also on the radio show you will hear from SoDel Concepts’ Corporate Pastry Chef Dru Tevis and Baywood’s Head Pastry Chef Ellie Keck for a behind-the scenes peek at how they keep 12 restaurants in fresh, new desserts.

Have a beautiful day. It is chilly in Southern Delaware but the sun is out!!

Remember AboutMyBeaches has a Facebook Page where you can read what’s going on and leave me some comments.

Eden, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Review, Monthly Wine Dinners, Happy Hour, Specials, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Full of atmosphere, Eden is located in the trendy street called Baltimore Ave., in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. 23 Baltimore Ave. to be exact, in the beach block.

Last night this was a destination for us. How surprising to see Rehoboth Beach full of cars. It is a balmy weekend in Southern Delaware, and the beaches, tax free shopping and a foodie paradise are part of the charm of what many call the Nation’s Summer Capital. The town is fully decorated for the Christmas Holiday. It usually is but this year both, commercial businesses and homes have gone all out. Saying goodbye to 2020 in a big way.

Eden has Happy Hour every day, and specials too. Wine diners and professional service is always a plus. Their tel. is 302-227-3330 and their website is http://www.edenrestaurant.com.

Love their Grilled Caesar Salad with a sun dried tomato/olive tapenade and pecorino romano. I always order it and it never disappoints.

I don’t think you see Antelope in the many restaurants in Rehoboth Beach. It is always on their menu. Last night was my choice. I chose not to get the sweet potato mashers so only bacon roasted Brussels sprouts for me. The antelope tenderloin was cooked medium rare and topped with a berry/red wine reduction. Full of flavor and tender.

This meat comes Broken Arrow Ranch in Texas. They are milder tasting compared to the ones farther north. I found out that Texas antelope is more tender because they do not confront the same predatory threats on the ranch.

The daily fish special was the Rockfish on top of pasta and veggies. Well received. This is a local fish and it is also very mild. Looks amazing, don’t you think?

No dessert because watching what you eat at this time of the year is a must.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Mill Pond Garden, Lewes, Delaware, NonProfit Native Plants, Michael Zajic, Horticulturist, Garden in Southern Delaware, October Opening, Sunday, October 11th

Mill Pond Garden was a total surprise to me. No idea something this pretty was in close proximity to my own home in Rehoboth Beach.

It is located on Red Mill Pond in Lewes. It is the private home of Michael Zajic and his wife, who bought the property 10 years ago and the garden opened to the public about 4 years ago. You have to love flowers and gardening and landscape design. Mr. Zajic has a long history in all those things. Currently he is working on the Delaware Botanic Gardens in Dagsboro.

Mill Pond Garden opens to the public once a month and later during holidays they have different events to show off during that special time of the year. For more information please visit http://www.millpondgarden.com.

On the link above mentioned you will be able to buy tickets, as well. It is $12 per car and you can have up to 6 people in your car. Once you get to the property you will park in the cul de sac and enjoy this special place.

I went to the September opening. And will be going again with friends this coming Sunday the 11th. In case of rain then Wednesday the 14th will be the other date. Keeping my fingers crossed. The photos on this post were taken in September. On this next trip the garden will showcase Mums, Asters, and Mist Flowers who they call “Gems of the Autumn Garden”.

I cannot imagine waking up every morning to experience nature’s beauty It has been hard work and everything has been designed and done my them and helpers. Even the walkways.

I thought he had planted the water lilies but he said those were indigenous to Delaware and no he did not.

The garden is soothing and full of surprises in every corner.

I wanted to be his neighbor because across the street the garden continues to display a koi pond, ferns and many perennials as well as annuals.

This is also a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Check the photos in the gallery to see who stops to visit the garden. https://millpondgarden.com/wildlife-photo-gallery/

When clicking on the gallery, if it is shaded just click on each individual photo.

The garden is open from 10 until 12:30 p.m. It is best to buy tickets from the website above mentioned because you have to choose the time you would like to visit.

Hope you do visit on Sunday and if not, then you will have to check my next post. Until then have a beautiful Fall Season.

Shorebreak Lodge, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, The Art of Wining and Dining

I stumbled upon a restaurant, a skip and a jump away from the award winning Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk more than a few years ago. It is very special to uncover a great dining spot whether seating at the bar, at a table or coming for small plates.

To me I find it whimsical. I am talking about Shorebreak Lodge Restaurant located at 10 Wilmington Ave. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE. Tel. 302-227-1007. Website? http://www.shorebreaklodge.com

Shorebreak has charm and understated sophistication. The food is simple, and delicious. At the bar suggestions for wine pairings were a big help.

At this time of the year the restaurant is open from Wednesday through Sunday.

Over the past couple of months I have visited Shorebreak, and, obviously, I like it since I keep coming back.

So let me tell you what we have had. If they offer Shishito peppers, please have them. They are not hot, they are actually sweet, and served charred they are best.

I can roast my own beets. Love them and theirs were perfectly roasted and with an appealing preasentation.

Soup of the Day? The winter squash on a cold night hit the spot.

I think they have the best Grilled Octopus around. It is perfectly seasoned and cooked; not tough. Just try it. I have it every time and it is always on the menu.

There are plenty of restaurants in Rehoboth Beach. You just have to find the ones that serve good food, at good prices in a comfortable setting.

Enjoy the Christmas Season. Check my FB Page AboutMyBeaches for more information on where to shop, what to do, and what to cook for dinner.

The Blue Hen, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Outdoor Dining, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, The Art of Wining and Dining

“There is no sincerer love than the love of food.” Nothing beats sitting around with friends and family and having meaningful conversations over a delicious meal.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is a dining destination. You can find almost anything, from the Boardwalk Grub to fine dining.

Outdoor dining is something you do not find in all the restaurants but The Blue Hen located at 33 Wilmington Ave. in Downtown Rehoboth has the outdoor atmosphere, and the food to boot. Their new hours are from Thursday through Monday. Their phone is 302-278-7842. Website? http://www.thebluehenrehoboth.com

Meet me at the Fire Pit is what I just told my friends. In the past few weeks I have visited The Blue Hen twice. Love being able to sit outdoor, whether is to have cocktails or even decide to eat dinner by the fire pit. Great atmosphere.

The Beet Salad was a starter and it is a shareable dish. Golden beets (I love them), pomegrate seeds, pickled onion, red beet yogurt, toasted spiced nuts and herbs. Great way to start a dining experience.

What is the original advice about eating oysters? Only eat them in the 8 months of the year that contain the letter “R”, which means September through April. I, actually, do not follow that advice and nothing has ever happened.

Cold and salty, that’s how I like my oysters.

The scallops at the Blue Hen are delicious. They are a very popular dish. They are served with trumpet mushrooms, braised fennel, sea beans, green apple dashi, and chives. Dashi is a class of soup and cooking stock used in Japanese cuisine.

Eating by the Fire Pit is perfect at this time of the year. Eating outdoors is first come first served regarding to seating arrangements. The Blue Hen accepts reservations for indoor seating.

If you are in Rehoboth visiting and decide to eat at The Blue Hen the Smith Island crab cakes are very good and the fresh Maryland crab will probably only be availabe for another week or so. These are no fillers crab cakes, roasted red bliss potatoes, ham pickle slaw, and tartar sauce.

The Pan Seared King Salmon with baby kale, roasted grapes, celery root puree, pine nuts and brown butter while it was very good, my friend thought it should have been cooked a little bit more.

Dessert…just one will do. Please bring us a few spoons. The chocolate dense cake and mint ice cream hit the right spot.

Rehoboth nights continue in the Second Season. Beautiful nights in the fall is the best time of the year at the beach.

Sitting with my friends enjoying a nice meal reminds me of my own family dinners when t.v. was off and it was time to learn about each other and what everyone had done that day.

A generous spread of delicious food is the universal unifier. Food can be dressed up or down. You can’t rush it, you have to cook from the heart.

Have a great week-end.

Please check AboutMyBeaches Facebook Page. Thanks.

Semra’s Mediterranean Grill, Restaurant, Take Out, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Review, Lunch, Dinner, The Beach Eats, Casual, Homemade Food, Aromatic Spices, Southern Delaware

Crushed red pepper directly from Turkey.  Semra’s family sends her this sweet pepper.  It does not look sweet but it is.  Very good.  Semra’s has it on all tables.  I had a craving for Moussaka from Semra’s.  In Turkey, which is where Semra is from, the Moussaka has a different appearance.  I always thought Moussaka looked like and eggplant lasagna.  At Semra’s it is prepared Turkish style.  It is so aromatic and flavorful.

The Kofte I had for lunch today.  The patties are char-grilled, again, seasoned with those delicious Turkish herbs and spices.  It was served with rice, yogurt sauce and pita bread.

Semra’s is located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue on the ocean block.  You can find them on Facebook.  Their website is http://www.semras.com.

Semra’s also has take out and catering.  During the winter they have belly dancing evenings, a complete fun show.  It is very well attended.  You can check their Facebook page or visit the above mentioned website.

It is interesting to find out other restauranteurs visiting their favorite restaurants in Rehoboth Beach.

Semra and her husband, John, are always at the restaurant.  They are so friendly.  Very nice couple.  Their food is cooked inhouse and they consider themselves foodies.  That is why their food taste so good.  Their cooking reflect the love of delicious homemade food, beautifully spiced.

Until next time!!
