Henlopen City Oyster House, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

It’s early in the morning as I sit down to write this post. Living in Rehoboth Beach gives me the opportunity to try so many good restaurants. Besides the beaches who attract so many visitors, this seaside village is a foodie’s destination. Up and down the Delaware coast chefs outdo each other all the time preparing amazing dishes with the freshest ingredients available.

I have my favorite restaurants and depending on my mood I pop in usually to sit at the bar. I find that part of a restaurant the most fun.

I love seafood. I thoroughly enjoy plump, cold and salty oysters and what better place to have them than at Henlopen City Oyster House located at 50 Wilmington Ave. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. 302-260-9193.

Sitting at the oyster bar we ordered these gorgeous Main oysters.

They were delicious. Our next tasting was the clam chowder, New England style with smoked bacon, potatoes and veggies. This soup is always on the menu and they have perfected it.

Thumbs up to the Crispy Blowfish Tails. Beer battered, with apple cider and pink peppercorn aioli and lemon.

My actual dinner consisted of the whole fish. This was a Massachusetts Haddock. This is a mild flesh fish. It was rice flour dusted, tamari braised dittmar purple top turnips, crispy ninja radishes, chesterfield heirlooms eggplant, blistered shisito peppers, and a lime soy vinaigrette.

This is definitely a full meal. But to tell you the truth it is a light one. Don’t be scared of a whole fish. In Asia a whole fish is considered to bring good luck. When eating it whole you get more meat and any meat cooked on the bone is more flavorful.

I loved it. I used the fork and knife and my fingers too. So Justin Jordan who is the Chef comes out and said to me. I wished I could hire you to show the customers how to eat a whole fish. The woman next to me mentioned she did not know how to eat it until she saw what I was doing. I do the same work with crabs, lobsters and fried chicken. ?

Speaking about the young woman next to me I took a photo of her main meal. She chose the Lobster Roll. It was gigantic and her side was the Golden Raisin Sofrito Roasted Carrots.

That dinner was not enough because a friend and I made it to lunch on Friday when more oysters to the table and she had the lobster roll with fries, and I had the hamburger. Their City Burger, cooked medium rare for me had pickled sweet peppers, crispy onions, tomato bacon jam, shredded lettuce, gouda cheese on a brioche roll. Juices ran down my chin but after working on that whole fish a few days before who cares, right?

Please visit our restaurants and remember that eating is a need but enjoying it, is an art.

Crystal Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Breakfast, Lunch, Bar, Scrapple, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

For so many years my friends and I have had breakfast at Crystal. It opens 7 days. The food is consistently delicious. The service is attentive and the prices are great. No wonder there are always lines in the summer and on weekends.

And, what was the best stop after the Monsters on Parade on Sunday for some sustenance? Definitely Crystal was. It is located at 37300 Rehoboth Ave. Ext #1 right as you come into Rehoboth Ave. from Coastal Highway. 302-227-1088. You can find it on Facebook.

Crystal has a long bar with plenty of seating. And, in case you don’t know they have excellent Bloody Marys.

After watching Monsters on Parade at the Boardwalk Crystal was a must stop.

Besides the Bloody Marys Crystal has the best scrapple bar none. Cooked to perfection. I love it thin and crispy.

I kid you not, if I was to choose a last meal this would be it.

You may turn your nose up but you have to try it the way it should be cooked.

We met Yanni whose parents own Crystal and he has grown up in the business. His uncle likes to stay in the kitchen but he gave a smile and a wave.

So when you come to town make sure you try this family owned restaurant. Don’t forget the scrapple. Ohh and the Bloody Mary, of course.

Thrasher’s, French Fries, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the Boardwalk Grub, Delaware Beaches

It is just one product; potatoes. Deep fried. I like them well done. Up and down our coast you will find a line, waiting. They don’t mind the wait.

Waiting for the Pet Parade on the Boardwalk we made the line. A bucket full or more of a conservative size. We chose the second one.

Look at the friers. Non stop. It started in Ocean City, MD in 1929. Practice makes perfect. If you want to learn more visit http://www.thrashersfries.com

You must not forget the salt and vinegar. It is a must.

And off we went to check out those Monsters on Parade.

Sea Witch Festival, Halloween, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Annual Event, vendors, Music, Parades, Monsters on Parade, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

A beautiful weekend after the rain and wind event in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The Sea Witch Festival went on and my favorite day was Sunday with the Monsters on Parade taking place on the Boardwalk. Tons of competitors and a very well behave group of dogs.

There was music at the Bandstand and plenty of vendors too.

People in costumes and these two were my favorites.

Plan for next year. For me will be making a reservation at The Boardwalk Plaza for outdoor seating on the Boardwalk to sip Bloody Marys as the parade passes by.

Great to see so many smiling faces. This is the way it should be.

Love this time of the year. Have a great day.
