Destination? Parasailing, Dewey Beach Parasail, Fly Dewey, Dewey Beach, Woody’s, Restaurant, AboutMyBeaches Turns 6, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Summer 2015!

dscn6267

It was in the bucket list.  But, a friend said to feel the rush.  It was going to be peaceful and so much fun.  It was all of that and more.  Friends like Debbie, Sharon, and Cindi….those women that like to enjoy life to its fullest.

dscn6304

Dewey Beach offers a playground for adults and children, as well.  Water sports are a must when in Dewey.  The Atlantic Ocean on one side and Rehoboth Bay on the other.  In between?  Restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

dscn6296

Our destination was Dewey Beach Parasail, located at the Rusty Rudder on Coastal Highway and Dickinson St.  Tel. 302-227-9507  Website?  http://www.flydewey.com

dscn6293

After filling a form we were ready for our parasailing adventure.  The boat had already some passangers.  We were the last to get in but the first ones to go parasailing.

dscn6268

Meet Justin, the Captain, and Dylan, the Crew.  This company is very experienced and has a perfect safety record.

dscn6269dscn6270

After going through some pertinent information it was time to get the parasail up in the air.

dscn6273

It was so easy to take off and also an easy and gentle landing.  They have tandem and triple rides available.  We were going tandem.  This activity is fun for all ages, young to matured ones.  There is a photo package and t-shirts available, as well.

So here we are..first Sharon and I.

Then off to Woddy’s for the best crab cakes in town.!!

dscn6292

Woody’s is located at 1904 Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach.  Tel. 302-260-9945  Website?  http://www.deweybeachbar.com

dscn6303

For years Woody’s has been considered as the place to go to get the best crab cakes at the Delaware Beaches.  Colossal Lump Crab!

dscn6302

We all had the crab cakes and loved them.  Just huge chunks of crab meat with no fillers!!

ABOUTMYBEACHES HAS TURNED 6 TODAY….And what a great way to celebrate with some of my good friends.  A few of the usual suspects were missing, but they know who they are.  Up to date I have 1,926 posts with 1,960 comments.  I do have advertising available.  Let me now if you are interested.  $500/year for the banner.  Just send me an email to info@aboutmybeaches.com.

Our day came to an end but not before I let the Dewey Police Dept. know that those meters at the Rusty Rudder need to be checked out.  They are always a problem.  And, Cindi was not happy.

Destination? The Grove Market, Bishopville, Maryland, Smokehouse, Restaurant, Review, Good Food? Will Travel!!

dscn6177

“Pull up a chair.  Take a taste.  Come join us.  Life is so endlessly delicious.”  ruth reichl

dscn6178

The Grove Market never changes, which is a good thing.  That’s why we love it!!  Located at 12402 St. Martins Neck Rd., Bishopville, Maryland, 21813  Tel. 410352-5055  The Grove Market is funky, small and you will not find another restaurant like it in Delmarva.  In the summer, it opens every day at 5 p.m.  Leslie is the owner.  Her brother, Patrick helps.  But, tonight Lisa was taking care of us.  Please note that there are no credit cards accepted so bring cash or a check.

How to make a reservation.  It can be tricky.  That’s for sure.  When you call to make a reservation make sure you have a few dates available and times.  If you have to leave a message do so and be specific.  Leslie will call you back and either she will say yes or you might have to pick another day or another time.

The Grove Market is small.  I think about 7 tables and maybe a couple of stools at the bar.  This restaurant is very popular.

At the helm of the tiny kitchen is John McDonald.  John is from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and he is a well known chef and wine connoisseur.  He makes his ingredients come alive and your taste buds will immediately start dancing.

There is an extensive wine list.  No written menu; everything is recited from memory.  Their menu changes practically every day.

Seated in the back porch with only 3 tables we were chatty with our fellow diners. Not enough time to write the description of our dishes…but take a look at the photos.

Drinks and the appetizers followed:

I only wanted a small wine cup.  That’s what I got.

dscn6181

Crabmeat Remick

dscn6183

Fried Green Tomatoes topped with shrimp.  I have a thing for this dish.  I will order Fried Green Tomatoes in every restaurant that serves them.  These were superb.

dscn6184

Our table full of Roasted Ducks.  This is the most amazing entree.  One of their most popular.  It is a Delaware duck, roasted to perfection with a semi sweet sauce, accompanied with chutney.

dscn6190

dscn6193

Our Roasted Duck came with the side dish of the Grove Market’s Mash Potatoes and their famous breadstick, which is made out of the dough that was in the pizza recipe when many years ago pizza was served.

dscn6191

Well, I needed more photos of the entrees that Lisa had so perfectly recited.  Here is where our fellow diners come into play.  Could I take photos of your food?  I have a blog with photos.  They were great and immediately caught on to the fact that they could not touch their food until I had taken the pictures.  Thanks so much for being so gracious.  This is what our Maryland diners had for dinner.  By the way, they are repeat customers.

dscn6195

And, if you like chocolate….then, the Chocolate Silk Pie should be ordered.

dscn6197

Sharing a meal with friends is always priceless…the chat, the laughs and the friendship.  Cannot wait to go back!

Note:  The Grove Market is also a smoke house so when there is smoked fish for an appetizer you might want to order it.

Day Tripping, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Chicks in A Limo, Atlantic Transportation Services, Beach and Bay Cottage Tour, July 22nd & 23rd, Fundraising Event, Friends of the South Coastal Library, Roosters Nest, Just Hooked, Restaurant, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn6176

It was that time of the year…for 24 years the Beach and Bay Cottage Tour has been taking place in July.  It is a fundraising event for the Friends of the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach, Delaware.  It also has been probably that many years since a “true” cottage has been on the tour.  There are still a few of those left in town reminding us that life was much simpler then, at the beach.  The tour was today, July 22nd and tomorrow, July 23rd.

It is my second year joining this great group of women that only travel in style, thanks to our oganizer Sandy.  She is a gracious hostess and lunch at her house in between the touring of 10 magnificent homes was fantastic.

dscn6128

We have been traveling by limo.  Nothing but the best for the group.  Atlantic Transportation Services was going to be taking care of us.  Yes, we were the chicks in the limo!!  And, Ellyne Gale, one of the owners of Atlantic Transportation Services was our driver.  Please check http://www.atlanticlimode.com.

We arrived early, the tour was starting at 9:30 a.m. and we had 10 houses to visit.  Here is our group.  In the limo we had things to eat: champagne and wine!!  It was going to be a long day!!

dscn6125

Sorry, but no photos were allowed in any of the houses.  All the houses were interesting to say the least.  The largest one was 7,000 square feet.  The group of homes on this year’s tour had something that would appeal to every one that visited.  Thanks to the 400 volunteers that worked so hard to make this year’s tour a sensational event.  Great weather, as well!!  And, we toured all 10 houses!!

dscn6161

Stopping at Rooster’s Nest is always a must stop.  Rooster’s Nest is located west of Fenwick Island, Delaware, at the Bayville Shopping Center.  It is open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day.  Tel. 302-436-1848  This shop has home furnishings, home accessories, and so much more.

dscn6160

dscn6129

If you are a fan of Bossom Buddy Bags from Baltimore, Maryland, Rooster’s Nest has a nice collection of them.  These handbags are beautifully made:  “Handbags as extraordinary as the women who carry them.”  bossom buddy bags

dscn6133

dscn6134

Summer at the beaches can be a tricky time when you have a large group of people that are ready for dinner….Not all restaurants can handle big groups.  Thanks to Just Hooked because they made sure that all of us had a comfortable table with exceptional service.  Just Hooked is located at 1500 Coastal Hwy., Fenwick Island, DE 19944.  Tel. 302-581-0098  Website?  http://www.justhookedfi.com.

An order of fried calamari to wet our appetites.  Light and perfectly season, we passed them around the table.

dscn6165

There were a few specials….The Salmon was one of them.  I almost got it.  It had chutney, which I think adds so much to any dish.

dscn6168

Instead, I decided on the Softshell Crabs.  I do love them and Just Hooked was supposed to have delicious ones.  They did not disappointed.  They were light, sweet and oh, so good.

dscn6173

Someone ordered a salad with a filet.  Something light.

dscn6171

Fish n’ Chips…buttermilk battered cod, house fries, coleslaw and a remoulade.

dscn6175

Local Crab Cake with pickled carrot n’ peashoot salad, bacon fingerling frittes and classic remoulade.

dscn6170

Seared scallops, with pearl faro, spring peas, artichokes, chicory and pesto.  They looked beautiful.

dscn6166

Shrimp n’ Grits…cheesy grits, fried green beans, chorizo vinaigrette and chili threads.

dscn6172

No dessert was necessary after all this delicious food accompanied by wine and other spirits like Orange Crush!!

dscn6163

It was time to go home…”The most valuable live thing for me is when people look like they’re having a good time.”  grimes

We certainly did, ladies and until next time….I remain.

Markets are rising in popularity because consumers can get fresh produce directly from the farm.  The pick of the day, shall we say.

Learning about ground cherries.  Had not seen them before.  They have a papery husk, which encloses the small fruit.  The fruit is small and orange.  Ground cherries are part of the same family as the tomatillos.  They are good in pies and they are also good with salsa and in a salad.

Melissa Etheridge, Ultimate Classic Rock, Blondie, Icons Rocked The Stage, Freeman’s Stage, Live Music, The Wailers, Reggae, Selbyville, Delaware, Delaware Beaches

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”  bob marley

During the day The Freeman’s Stage is quiet and peaceful.  The stage is small and cozy.  The laws are beautifully manicured.

img_3280

Throughout the summer this venue offers live music for everyone. It is outdoors and listening to music under the stars is…..priceless.  Top national performers as well as local ones come to The Stage.  Is funny to hear the performers say that they feel like they are in someone’s yard.  Well, they sort of are.  Please check the schedule by visiting http://www.freemanstage.org.

Now, when Melissa Etheridge, and Blondie…ultimate classic rock stars arrived, and then followed a couple of days later by The Wailers…..this venue was everything but quiet.

dscn5960

dscn5988

Melissa Etheridge is a super star and an activist. Her voice continues to entertain so many of us that have known her for a long time.  She is on tour at the moment and her time at The Freeman Stage is not going to be forgotten.

dscn6032

dscn5986

When she sang I’m the Only One, I Want to Come Over, and Come to My Window among others the audience went nuts.  She gave it her all in every song.  And, believe me, it was steamy that night.

dscn6038

Blondie, another icon form the late 1970’s.  She had just turned 70!!!  The Tide is High, Hanging on The Telephone and Rapture brought all of us to a good cheer, remembering those days long gone.

dscn6055

dscn6068

Last Friday night at The Freeman Stage it was a night of reggae with The Wailers coming to the Delaware Beaches to play some of the songs we have loved through the years.
