Agave, Mexican Restaurant, Bethany Blues, Restaurant, Music Venue, Lewes, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Out and About Friday night. Not the best weather. Checking out what’s going on in Lewes. Great to see people walking regardless of the weather.

First stop? Agave located at 137 2nd St. This is, actually, Main Street in Lewes.

Agave has been in Lewes for many years and this is the first location and my personal favorite. There is background music, people are talking. It is cozy and fun. Favorite spot to take a seat is the bar. Lots of action there. It is a busy place. They open at lunch.

Two favorite drinks I truly love here. The Avocado Martini, and their traditional Margarita. Salt too please.

Tonight I chose their original margarita. It is so good.

It goes great with my Avocado and Mango Salad with some skirt steak to make it a full dinner.

Tommy decided to get a Pomegranate Margarita to accompany his Guacamole. They do make the best guacamole in town.

Have you had their Puffy Tacos? The tacos become puffy when the corn tortilla is deep fried. The water in the masa expands. I like them.

Tommy’s Puffy Fish Tacos were very good and doggie bag was requested. And there is his Pomegranate Margarita ?

Completely satisfied we continued on our Friday stroll.

People scream for Ice cream. There was a line for Kings Ice Cream. There is always one.

Next Stop? Bethany Blues on Coastal Highway. Great music this weekend. The venue for live music is perfect. Last night two bands but tonight starting at 8:30 is Roger Girke and The Wondering Souls. You can eat, drink and dance all in one place.

Have fun whatever you are doing. Relax, you are at the beach. Slow down and enjoy the moment.

Bon Appetit, Restaurant, Seaford, Delaware, French Food, The Food Gem of Western Sussex

It is going to be raining all week in Sussex County but a bright spot will be Bon Appetit, 312 Height St., Seaford, DE. Please don’t think I am not driving to Seaford. From Rehoboth Beach is about 45 minutes. But it beats sitting in beach traffic. And, plus you will get an amazing dinner.

T Cooper who was raised in Seaford introduced me to this restaurant. I have been dying to go back and last night we took off leaving behind the beaches for a drive across farmlands until reaching High Street.

The parking lot was full. First Day of Summer felt like Fall. The restaurant was crowded.

Their Motto is “Be our Guest and Eat well.” As you come into the restaurant you feel like being a guest in someone’s home. The photographs, the roses filling a vase and a single rose on each table. And tablecloth draped tables. Those details were not missed by me.

We spoke to Karen, the owner. Chino, her husband was in the kitchen working his magic. A few drinks to start.

The menu changes often but there are some dishes that are always offered because they are so good.

Let’s talk about Butter. Look how beautiful the butter on the table looks. It is one of those details that you can appreciate.

And by the way the French baguettes were warm. Just so you know.?

A traditional Onion Soup always on the menu. TC’s starter. It hit the spot on a rainy night.

I was debating because a few appetizers caught my attention. The Country Pate won. It was perfect. Thinking out loud how pate, French bread and a glass of wine is the best.

One of those dishes I mentioned that are always on the menu is their duck. On this night it was served with a pineapple sauce. TC will have a good lunch today as he enjoys his take home leftovers.

Debating between the rockfish and softshell crabs, our server without hesitation said sofshells. Our server was awesome ; knowing her menu well and maneuvering a restaurant full of diners with ease.

Softshells are my favorites and the first of the season. Very lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned, and pan fried. The best. So sweet. I took my time eating them because I did not want them to end.

Dessert? The Chocolate Mousse won me over but they have more than afew homemade desserts. It was smooth and not overly sweet. That’s how it should be.

I almost forgot to mention another detail. Ever since they opened the restaurant many years ago, every dish is accompanied by a vegetable mousse. It was a detail noticed on my first visit and once again noticed last night.

What can I say to finish my post? “Happiness Is Great Food and Great Company. “ The perfect recipe.

Jam, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, American Food, Delaware Beaches, Do you like Deviled Eggs?

A stop to Jam to check out their new location on 210 Second St. (corner of Wilmington Ave.) They do have a rooftop bar, as well.

Just sat in the bar area. Hungry for something simple. Basic American food.

Their telephone is 302-226-5266. They are on Social Media.

I had the best Deviled Eggs. So different but very good. Lump Crab Deviled Eggs with candied bacon, jalapeño and Old Bay dijonaise. If you look at the photo up close the base of the egg is the egg white, of course, except that the egg white is a square almost cooked in a mold and then topped with the filling.

The Scallop Mornay Portabellas with a slightly wilted spinach salad and cherry tomatoes with a Balsamic reduction I would say they were very good.

BBQ Grilled Half chicken was what I wanted. Great pomegranate BBQ sauce.

Jam is good for the whole family. Try it.

Summer 2023, Drift, Restaurant, Thrasher’s, Louies, The Bandstand, Crawling Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

I figured by Sunday evening the visitors are gone from Rehoboth Beach. Who am I kidding? Summer 2023 is here and parking becomes a challenge.

We decided our Crawling would start at Drift located at 42 1/2 Baltimore Ave. It is opening every day for dinner. Best to make a reservation.

http://www.driftrb.com

That small open air bar has 4 seats. We were lucky to be able to grab 2 seats. It is nice this time of the year to enjoy the bars and restaurants that have outdoor seating.

I decided for a cocktail called the Ruby Soho. Trying something new for a change. And, a Grapefruit Crush.

The Ruby Soho had Tito’s, Lillet Rose, Giffard Pamplemousse Liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. Lillet Rose is an aperitif that exudes a sweet and floral aroma. Giffard Pamplemousse Liqueur is a passion fruit aperitif. French by the Giffard brand. So you know ?

A little something to accompany my beautiful cocktail was the New Bedford Scallop Crudo. Crudo means raw. It had Fifer Orchard (local farm) strawberry and hibiscus aguachile. You probably saying what the heck is that? Aguachile means chile water. It dates back to the Sinaloa mountains. It is a sauce with peppers and a base for spicy ceviche. This dish was medium spicy.

An order of delicious Delaware oysters. If you have not tried please do so. They have become very popular. The hot sauce is made in house.

Our Crawling continued towards what I call the Boardwalk Grub. Favorites at the beach.

First stop at Thrasher’s; salt and vinegar a must. The fries were crispy which was great.

A craving for pizza and Louies was about to close. I have not had one in some time. We have very good pizza at the beach.

Walking Downtown Rehoboth with Thrasher’s on on hand and pizza on the other and listening to music at the Bandstand. Summer?

Summer 2023 is here??

The Hobbit, Restaurant, Review, Ocean City, Maryland, American Food, Dining With A View, Summer 2023

The Hobbit is considered an institution in Ocean City, Maryland. Since 1977 when they first opened, it has evolved with the times including a move with panoramic views. You don’t get to experience fine dining, good service plus scenic views at the same location.

The address is 121 81st St. #101. Tel 410-524-8100. Website:
http://Www.thehobbitrestaurant.com

They have a great bar. I believe reservations are a must for dining. They open 7 days a week for dinner.

There were six of us for dinner. Perfect time for a gorgeous sunset at the distance. Drinks, small talk, laughter followed.

An order of the Cream of Crab Soup was well received. Jumbo lump, Sherry and Old Bay; a Trifecta in my book.

The Traditional Caesar Salad. If you want it gluten free leave the croutons out.

A delicious Smoked Beef Carpaccio: cold smoked beef tenderloin, fried shallots, truffled horseradish sauce and capers. A delicate tasting appetizer or small plate like I chose.

Look at these Pork’s Duck Cigars…Duck Confit, garlic, and sour onion wrapped in pastry and fried. Finishing touches of cherry honey syrup and toasted almond. Can you share??

A few orders of crab cakes which The Hobbit are famous for. No fillers whatsoever and just a sprinkle of Old Bay will do. Don’t miss them??

Filet Mignon prepared one of three ways. Veggies of the day. They cleaned their plates; talking about the ones that ordered them.

I love duck. Medium rare for me. This duck not only had a great presentation but it tasted just as good as it looked.?

I had the Fried Green Tomatoes which were excellent. I apologize, Oops, forgot to take the photo. Take my word they were perfectly cooked.

Plenty of restaurants up and down the Delaware and Maryland coast. Love it when I feel that I can’t wait to go back again.

The Hobbit Restaurant is on Social Media and so is AboutMyBeaches. Check us out.

And until then, I remain.

Ice Cream, Hopkins Farm Creamery, A Basil Surprise, Lewes, Delaware, Delaware Beaches

I Scream for Ice Cream. I love it year round. Hopkins Farm Creamery has so many flavors. It is located at 18186 Dairy Farm Rd. In Lewes, DE. It is right on Rt 9. That’s the road that takes you to Georgetown. You can’t miss it.

A couple of weeks ago the annual event to raise funds for Meals on Wheels took place at Ivy in Dewey. This is a competition where guests go by the tables of local restaurants and taste and vote for favorites. It is a fun night raising money for a good cause.

I shared on my AboutMyBeaches some of my favorites but this particular best on my book was the garnish. Yes, you heard it right. How could a garnish capture someone’s intensity so much?

Hopkins Farm Creamery had its table, sign and all.

And the delicious ice cream to taste.

Here comes the part that captured my attention. Do you see the garnish? You could eat. It was crispy, sweet with that delicious basil leave.

I was not the only one talking about it. This is what they told me. You make an egg wash with egg white and brush it on both sides of the basil leave. Then, sprinkle heavily with granulated sugar and let it dry at room temperature.

I lined a cookie sheet with waxed paper then on a plate put the sugar in order to heavily coat the leave on both sides. I let it sit until I could tell it was dry. It came out perfectly. Check it out.

Perfect as a garnish when you want your guest to say I Want The Recipe.

I then saved them overnight but that’s all they lasted. Better make them the day of.

Check out their website to see what’s going on at the creamery. Remember AboutMyBeaches is on FB and Instagram.

Have a great day?
