Delaware Seashore State Park, Beach, Tower Road, Concession, Parking, Delaware Beaches are Sizzling!!! Hot Day at the Beach! Sunday, July 21st, 3rd Annual Maritime Heritage Festival, Indian River Life-Saving Station, Southern Delaware

100_1039

The beach was the place to be on this scorching day at the Delaware Beaches.  So, my choice of beach today was Tower Road located south of Dewey Beach, Delaware….it is a Delaware Seashore State Park beach.

dscn4959

Out of state cars are $8, and cars with Delaware tags are $4.  This is a particular nice beach, with plenty of parking.  The concession offers French Fries, Hot Dogs, and plenty of the grub we all love at the beach.  Two of the WWII Towers stand as usual….these historic sentinels are always watching.

dscn4989

dscn4986

At the end of the ramp I noticed the beach wheelchair.  It is free for anyone who needs help on the beach.

dscn4964

The Delaware State Parks offer many events and fun activities for the whole family.  On Wednesdays, through August 15th, is Kayaking Station Cove at 9:30 a.m.  On Thursdays, you can catch a boat tour, at 10 a.m. until Noon, where you can explore the Inland Bays.  The cost is $20.  If you don’t want to wake up that early, then, they have a Rehoboth Bay Sightseeing Tour from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.  This tour is $19.  More info?  Please call 302-227-6991, or, visit http://www.destateparks.com.

dscn4958

dscn4994

The beach at Tower Road is very wide.  I used to always park on the north side, but, today, Susie and I decided to just sit in the thick of things.  Please remember to take your sandals on very hot days because the sand gets very hot.  And, if you do not have an umbrella, they also have them for rent at $12 per day.

dscn4965

dscn4970

Sitting next to the lifeguards we could see that today was a very uneventful day.  So, a little weight lifting when the temperature soars to 97 degrees was just the thing to do.

dscn4969

It was such a typical day at the beach….nothing different.  The sand bucket looked the same, the kids were digging, some were fishing, and this seagull was the perfect scavenger.

Sailing, Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association, RBSA, Dewey Beach, Delaware, Junior Sailing School, Adult/Junior Clinics, Memberships, Fleets, Boat Rentals, Events, Happy 50th Birthday RBSA!!

dscn4328

Happy Birthday, RBSA!!  Since 1963 this sailing club has been in Southern Delaware, instructing the young and the matured crowd how to sail.  RBSA is a non profit sailing club, and, besides instruction, they also have sailboat rentals to the general public throughout the summer season.

dscn4381

It is located south of Dewey Beach at 38767 Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association Lane. Dewey, Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-227-9008.  Website?  http://www.rbsa.org.

dscn4382

I think this is the perfect post for today.  The weather is just gorgeous….sizzling hot, with blue skies.  Definitely, a summer kind of a day.  It was just like that when I went to visit RBSA on their Open House Saturday, some weeks ago.  The weather was just incredible.

dscn4360

It has been so many years since I have stopped by.  Close to 25 years ago my husband and I kept a small sailing boat at RBSA.  We used the club for R & R.  At times we would sit on their deck with friends.  It really was very nice and I wanted to see if it had kept its charm.  Surprise, surprised, it really had!!!

dscn4379

dscn4355

As I came in through their gravel road I came into view of the back of the club.  There was plenty of parking and already sailors were getting ready for a beautiful sailing adventure on Rehoboth Bay. And I remembered how my kids enjoyed the sailing school long time ago.

dscn4378

dscn4356

And, a feeling of peacefulness came upon me.  There is something about sailors and the aura that accompanies a sailing club.  It is not noisy; just very laid back!!

I went upstairs where Steve and Dick were receiving prospective members. Got to meet them and they, basically, explained how the club works.

dscn4330

The views from the second floor of RBSA have never changed, if anything, they are prettier than ever.

dscn4336

dscn4334

dscn4351

Even though the club offers memberships, it is also open to the public.  So, you can rent boats, and take lessons, as well.

dscn4359

dscn4374

The Junior Sailing School is for children ages 9 – 16 and is offered by reservation through August 16th on a weekly basis.  Classes start each Monday and end of Friday, probably, with a barbecue.  Registration starts at 9 a.m. every Monday; class ends at 11:45 a.m.  One week of Junior Sailing is $10 for members and $220 for non-members.  An advance class is also offered for $250 for 1 week.  Please ask about the 10% discount per student for sailors enrolling together.  Junior sailors must be able to complete a swim test.  A 5% discount will be applied to early registration, provided payment is received no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of selected classes.  Please call 302-227-9008 if you have any questions.

dscn4377

A combined adult/junior clinic is also offered Monday through Friday, by reservation from 1 p.m. to 4  p.m. on a daily drop-in basis.  Please call for more info., or visit the website above mentioned.

dscn4375

Rehoboth Bay is one of the finest confined bodies of water on the East Coast for small boat sailing.  RBSA offers just that and more…amazing sunsets, relaxing on the bay beach, or even eating crabs on their deck.

dscn4353

Hurricane Sandy took out their docks but everything has been repaired now.

dscn4344

Please visit http://www.rbsa.org, to find out all pertinent information, including a description of their fleet.

RBSA was founded in 1963 to foster sailing.  Teaching is by cerfitied sailing instructors, with classroom and on-the-water instruction on how to sail small boats.

dscn4362

Summer at RBSA is full of events.  Please visit http://www.rbsa.org/events.html.  Even better, stop by while at the beach!!

Lewes Eats, Nectar, Cafe, Juice Bar, Historic Lewes, Delaware, Open 7 Days a Week, 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, Wine, Beer, Nectar Serves Breakfast All Day, Gluten Free Options, Soups, Salads, Deli Salads, Snacks, Sandwiches, Desserts…Juices, Delaware Beaches

dscn4167

The new eatery located at 111 Neil’s Alley in Historic Lewes, Delaware is Nectar.  It is a Cafe & Juice Bar.  Its friendly and charming owner is Sarah McKeown.  And, Jody, Sue, and I found her very busy on a rainy day at the Delaware Beaches.

dscn4190

Nectar opens at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day of the week.  Tel. 302-645-5842.  Email nectar302@gmail.com.

dscn4172

My first impression of Nectar was that I had a feeling of warmth.  The restaurant embraces you as you step in.  Like a hug…you know what I mean.  The lighting is perfect; not too bright and not dim either.  It flows very well.

dscn3867

The juice bar has plenty of seating at the bar and by the window.  You can choose one of their specialty juices or be adventurous and develop your own signature juice.

dscn3863

There is an open living room, where you can relax, sip your drinks, or wait for your party to join you.

dscn3862

Plenty of tables have been arranged in the main dining room.  Every chair is different. The plates on the wall are all beautiful.  A lot of thought has gone into the decorating of Nectar.  It shows as the restaurant has his own unique aura.

dscn4169

dscn4171

I wanted to try one of their juices.  Afterall, it is also a juice bar.  I chose the Lean Green Machine.  It had green apple, cucumber, basil, spinach, lime, and jalapeno.  Boost your metabolism with this fat-fighting tonic…..and those jalapenos were definitely doing a dance with my taste buds.  Very good!

dscn4179

Nectar accommodates everyone.  Breakfast is served all day, soups, salads, deli salads, sandwiches and dessert.  We had made our choices.

We ordered 2 soups; a Carrot & Ginger Soup (left photo), and a Tomato Soup (right).  Jody loved hers and my Tomato Soup was excellent.  Well seasoned; tasty and just so you know, this soup is also served at Nectar with a grilled cheese sandwich…you can dunk.

dscn4181dscn4184

Sue ordered the blueberry pancakes.  They were fluffy topped with homemade blueberry maple syrup.  The pancakes were crusty on the outside and soft inside.  Also available gluten-free!!  Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that the servings are very generous.

dscn4185

Jody went with the Quinoa Salad.  That powerful grain is very versatile and was mixed with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and feta cheese on a bed of mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

dscn4187

My Salmon Citrus Salad was awesome!  Pan seared salmon fillet served over butter lettuce, capers, fennel, grapefruit and orange slices with a citrus vinaigrette.

dscn4186

We were perfectly content, so no dessert was ordered.  They do have lemon and mixed berry tart, strawberry shortcake, carrot cake, vegan chocolate avocado torde and the daily flavor ice cream.

dscn4188

dscn4191

Note:  Nectar also serves Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s made with Gluten Free Tito’s Vodka, Beer & Wine!!

We wish Nectar the best for Summer of 2013!!

Delaware Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Delaware, 3-Day Event, Gala Send-Off, Wednesday, 6/5, The “Flame of Hope”, The Summer Games, Delaware

dscn4133

The 27th Annual Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run began tonight with a send-off at 7 p.m. from the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.  In the 26 year history of Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics, more than $4.3 million has been raised.

I was so surprised to see cars bumper to bumper on Coastal Highway around 8 p.m.  Then, I saw it.  The “Flame of Hope”.  The very front officer was carrying it.  It will be carried  by over 500 police officers 160 miles over 3 days across the state, leading up to the Opening Ceremonies of the 43rd Summer Games.  Delaware is the only state in the country that runs a lit “Flame of Hope” the entire length of the state prior to its Summer Games.

dscn4127

Runners lead the “Flame of Torch” out of town with the first mile dedicated to Cpl. Chris Shea, DSP, who was tragically killed in a traffic accident.  The flames stops for the night at the Delaware State Police Troop 7 in Lewes.

dscn4132

The Torch Run resumes on Thursday in 3 Sussex Country locations: Delmar, Lewes, and Georgetown.  The 3 Sussex County legs of the Torch Run unite in Harrington, where the 3 torches will become one and the run will continue north through Kent County. Ceremonies will take place at Legislative Hall in Dover at 2 p.m., Wilmington Police Dept. on Friday, at 1:20 p.m. and the Summer Games Family Picnic on Friday, at 5 p.m.  All times are approximate.

The “Flame of Hope” will then be carried into the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Games, which begin Friday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.  For more information, please visit http://www.sode.org, or http://www.sode.org/fundraisers/torch-run-for-special-olympics-delaware.

dscn4130

Special Olympics Delaware has been changing the lives of Delawareans for 40 years.   “Over 3,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities have proven that, given the chance, no disability is too great to overcome.”

Have a great time!!

From the Rehoboth Beach Film Society:

The moment the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival ends…the works starts all over again. The 2013 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival will take place November 6th through the 13th.  I was so happy to see that Damon Pla has been chosen once again as the winning artist to portrait the theme of this year’s festival.  His acyrlic on canvas titled “Old Man and The Must See” is the selection for the 16th anniversary of the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival.  Posters, programs, ads, t-shirts, and other materials will be released in July.  In 2011 Damon Pla’s work was also selected.  When asked what his inspiration was for this year’s piece, he replied “Old Man and The Must See” is based around the fascination of a combination of machines working together to serve one purpose, accentuating a journey, not a destination.  In this case, emphasizing the work of the camera, not the subject being filmed.

dscn0805

Damon Pla is from South Florida….He is a self made painter.  He offers original paintings, limited editions, commissions and trompe l’oeil/murals.  Happy he has made his home, here, in Southern Delaware.  Want to learn more?  Please visit http://www.damonpla.com.  Tel. 302-541-6057.  Find him on Facebook, and Twitter.

The Beach Eats – Exhibit at the Rehoboth Beach Museum – A celebration of eating in Rehoboth Beach.  The museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue by the roundabout and Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce.  It is a fun exhibit.  I wrote a post on May 23, 2013 so if you want to take a peek just click on the month of May, 2013 and scroll down to the date.  The iconic restaurants in Rehoboth Beach paved the way for the present restaurants.  Remember Sydney’s?  Sydney mentioned to me that having the restaurant at that time was “A Moment in Time”.  It certainly was.  So much fun and great food accompanied by amazing music.  Check it out…it is worth it.  More info?  Please visit http://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org.

dscn0949

Doggies at The Beach is a 3,500 square foot indoor-cage free facility…my dog’s, Addy’s, favorite.  She feels like she is at home.  Can’t say enough about them.  Jim and his staff are true dog lovers.  Web cams, grooming, 24 hour supervision, training.

Beach House Dewey, Hotel, Dewey Beach, Delaware, Grand Opening…In the heart of Dewey Beach, Ocean Block, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn3911

Party at the Beach House!!…That’s the atmosphere I found today as I stopped by to check the new Beach House Dewey, which opened to a complete sold out week-end on Memorial.

dscn3901dscn3881

Dewey Beach has been for years a magnet for partygoers in the summer.  But, Dewey is also a very popular family resort.  It has a total casual atmosphere, which is why you really come to the beach.  Dewey has wide, sandy beaches….also, plenty of lodging accommodations.  Restaurants galore, bars, and live music.

And Dewey Beach has reason to boast…last year is was among the top 12 ranked beaches in the U.S. for water quality!!

dscn3898

Beach House Dewey is located at 1710 Highway One (ocean block) in Dewey Beach.  Tel. 302-227-4000.  Website? http://www.beachhousedewey.com.  The hotel used to be the Sand Palace.  New owners, The Berstein Companies, one of Washington, D.C.’s oldest real estate development, investment, and hotel management organizations.  A massive renovation has taken place to make Beach House Dewey the new coolest and most affordable place to stay in Dewey Beach.

dscn3897

Amanda Ponko was kind enough to invite me to check out the hotel.  So here is what I found out.

Beach House Dewey is within walking distance to all of Dewey Beach.  On the ocean block, the Atlantic Ocean, and just after crossing Highway One, the Rehoboth Bay.  Both are playgrounds for the young and the young at heart.

dscn3903dscn3902

There are 47 rooms and one suite.  Plenty of parking.  A very cheerful and modern Front Destk.

dscn3899

dscn3900

There is a shaded back patio and pool.  They will be planning plenty of activities for relaxing and socializing.

dscn3885

All the rooms have modern amenities, including in-room refrigerators, microwaves flat-screen HD televisions and wireless internet.

This double room was bright and smart looking.

dscn3882

I was able to see their only expansive suite; the Galli Suite.  It is very spacious with a detached, modern and comfortable sitting room.  There are views of both, the ocean and bay.

dscn3893

dscn3886

dscn3887

This sitting room, also has a connecting door to another guest room, in case you were with a larger family.

dscn3890

dscn3891

And if you don’t want to walk, or would like to take a trip to Rehoboth Beach, the Jolly Trolley stops steps from Beach House Dewey.

dscn3904

Have fun!!  The Summer of 2013 is here!!
