Saturday was a great day to be in Rehoboth Beach. The weather was 82 degrees with just a few clouds. It was the perfect day to stroll through the Rehoboth Art League’s 39th Annual Outdoor Fine Art & Craft Show. This is the second week-end; Sunday is the last day.
The Rehoboth Art League is located at 12 Dodds Lane, Rehoboth Beach. Already plans are taking place for 2013. The League will be celebrating its 75 years. I remember taking my own kids for classes during the summer at the League. June 21, 2013 is the kick off week-end. Check the website for details and events http://www.rehobothartleague.org.
This year I decided to take advantage of the free shuttle from K-Mart on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth. From experience, I know how hard it is to park in Henlopen Acres, where the Rehoboth Art League is located. It was such a breeze. I highly recommend it.
You can either pick up the shuttle at K-Mart or at the Rehoboth Elementary School located at 500 Stockley St.
No hassle; the Jolly Trolley was super clean, air conditioned, and the driver had some great music playing. We were there in no time since the Jolly Trolley traveled through the bus lane.
The traffic on Coastal Highway was incredible on Saturday, so believe me, this was the easiest way to get to the Rehoboth Art League. The buses make the rounds; they come and go every 15 to 20 minutes.
The Rehoboth Art League looked so lively, with so many people walking around. The property is about 3 acres. Over 100 artists and artisans were showcasing their variety of mediums.
There were food vendors, children’ activities and music.
On Sunday the Van Williamson Trio will be performing from 11 – 1 p.m. Marv Ashby and High Octane will be performing from 1 – 3 p.m.
At Noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. there will be a pottery demonstration, outside the Pottery Studio. On Saturday, Brenda was working on a piece.
There was also some face painting all day.
Their fig tree had fruit so I little tasting took place.
The Homestead which dates from 1743 is beautiful and tours are available, as well.
I stopped by to see my friend, Susan Gladstone. She is a potter whose studio The Happy Rock Pottery is located at the Celebration Mall Galleries at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.
Raku is her specialty; her booth is #53. Her tel. is 410-375-7120. Her e-mail is the happyrock@earthlink.net.
Then, I went looking for an artist that I met last year. Her name is Lynda Dahiell-Ohotnicky of Wahine Designs. Her home? Vieques, which is the island between Puerto Rico and the U.S.Virgin Islands. She is a designer/metalsmith. Her jewelry is handcrafted, and it is gorgeous. To know more about her and to see what she is all about, please visit http://www.wahinedesigns.com. Her booth is #5.
Last year I noticed the booth occupied by Martha Lechner Spak. She is from Potomac, Maryland. Her mediums? Fine Art, Photography, Designs. Check http://www.marthaspak.com.
I stopped to see Joy Davis of Joy Davis Jewelry Designs, who is a Wilmington, Delaware, native and a self taught silversmith. She had very unique pieces, as well. Her email address is jd2thesun@aol.com. You can learn more about her by visiting http://www.delawarebyhand.org/davis.shtml.
I met Lynne McKay today too. She has Whimsical Creations. She is an artist and interior designer. She lives in Rehoboth Beach. If you would like to talk to her, please call 302-381-5038.
Laura Hickman is a painter and a Delaware native with a multitude of accolades and awards to her name. She grew up in Bethany Beach and many of her paintings show her affection for this coastal, Southern Delaware town. I, particularly love some of her Bethany Beach’s alleys. Her travels have taken her to Italy, among other countries, where she has painted for years. If you would like to talk to her or schedule an appointment, please call her at 302-539-0494. Her website is http://www.laurahickmanfinearts.com. At the League, you will find her as you come in.
Kevin Fleming, photographer. There are not enough words to describe the talent of this artist. His photographs are awesome!! He has traveled the world for National Geographic and has been recognized as America’s Best Observer by Readers Digest. His studio is located at 239 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. His tel. 302-227-4994. Website? http://www.kevinfleming.com. He is on booth #111.
Enjoy, relax, and have a good time!!
And how about dinner?

A Trunk Show at Jeff West House in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Meg Carter was appearing with some of her beautiful jewelry, which is inspired by the sea. This designer is from Alexandria, Virginia, and Jeff West Home exclusively sells her unique designs. Meg uses natural seashells, fresh water pearls, semi precious stones, and metals. She is very popular, here, in Rehoboth Beach. Our casual lifestyle fits perfectly with her designs.
Jeff West Home is located at 413 Rehoboth Avenue. Tel. 302-227-3635. Website? http://www.jeffwesthome.com. This shop opens Monday – Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Sundays, it opens from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There is parking available in the back or you can just park on the street; parking meters.
Jeff West opened Jeff West Home in 2008. He was already known for his impeccable taste, having designed home interiors in Washington, D.C., throughout Delaware, Cape Cod and Maine.
Jeff West Home is located in the most charming cottage on Rehoboth Avenue. It is so quaint and stepping inside, immediately you can see that Jeff has a good eye for colors, and probably an innate sense of style.
Your home should be a reflection of you. This shop is a reflection of Jeff.
New in this store this year is a new line for babies. Having seen so many of my friends’ children getting married and some already expecting, I thought it was worth mentioning…..Lacey, I hope you are reading this one.
Jeff West Home offers interior design services. You can call the above mentioned number and schedule an appointment.
The store carries beautiful pieces of furniture, lamps, needlepoint pillows, throws…and those indispensables you cannot live without. Here are some pictures of what you will find in Jeff West Home.
As I was leaving I noticed the Custom Monogram Bamboo Director’s Chair.
And the Custom hand painted tiles.
Jeff told me I needed to check his new tiny little store in the cottage that sits on the back of the property. Call it shabby chic or cottage style. Jeff has been acquiring unique items with this store in mind. Perfect pieces for that screened in porch, pillows and accessories. It is called Pickets.
Shopping in Downtown Rehoboth Beach….so nice and relaxing. The icing on the cake? Tax free shopping!! Talk to you later.

An iconic shop; that’s what I call The Wooden Indian. Since 1977 in our community, this shop is a representation of what shopping in Downtown Rehoboth Beach has become. First class, sophisticated, charming, exquisitively appointed, accessible to all.
I remember when my children were young, they would look at me like I was from another world, as I would come into The Wooden Indian and the first thing I would say was: Touch only with your eyes. You know that look, don’t you? It worked because they never broke anything, thank God.
The Wooden Indian is located at 25 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Tels. 302-227-8331, 800-225-8331. The website is www.woodenindianltd.com. On Facebook, it can be found as Woodenindian Rehoboth. That might be your best best as you will be able to follow updates and what’s coming new into the store.
This is the second season for Paul and Joseph, the proprietors. Under their creative strengths, The Wooden Indian has acquired a modern simplicity that I noticed as I came in. You can move through the store with ease; every item is beautifully displayed.
One person that is key in this shop is Frances. I think she has seen the beginnings, the ups and downs of the store and the resurgence of what The Wooden Indian represents at the Delaware Beaches.
Rehoboth Beach is a very walkable town and The Wooden Indian is one street north of Rehoboth Avenue.
The Wooden Indian is still there as you come into the store; to the left.
Well known brands are Lynn Chase, Waterford, Herend, Godiva, Royal Copenhagen, Beatriz Ball, Vietri, Nambe, and Vera Wang, among others.
The shop will wrap and ship. Baskets can be made for presents. A variety of preserves, peanuts, sauces, and dressings.
A new line of jewelry by designer Esther-Ann Ingram, an independent shell artist arranging shells into beautiful works of art. One of a kind pieces; the shells come from all over the world.
The Bridal Registry is an integral part of the traditional wedding preparation. The Wooden Indian has china, crystal, silverware, and plenty of gifts in a wide variety of prices.
It is a special time of the year. Plenty of weddings during the summer months. The beaches are an attraction for that special day.
And, for the new addition to the family, they also have presents, as well.
The Wooden Indian is part of Rehoboth Beach….talk to you later.

Jewelry trends seem to take us across the board. Depending on the occasion; a red carpet affair, or real life. Some pieces are really far out; others almost bearly there, making a subtle statement.
It is that time of the year; Mother’s Day, graduations, and weddings. Accessories can make a simple outfit look fantastic.
Argentinian Designer; mixed metals, copper
Vacationing in Rehoboth Beach? Then check out Studio S with 2 locations in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, within walking distance of each other. One is larger than the other. But get this; 60% of its jewelry is designed and made in Ocean City, Maryland.
Downtown Rehoboth Beach is great for walking and the shopkeepers are a friendly bunch. I met Susan, who works at Studio S, and after talking for a bit she told me that she was half Puerto Rican. She recognized my accent.
I was having breakfast with Jody and Debbie when we decided to stop at Studio S. You know how it is, checking things out in Rehoboth Beach before the crowds come in. I did not know that store was even there. They opened about a year ago. This location is at 70 Rehoboth Avenue, Unit 101. Tel. 302-227-5465. It is at First Street Station. The other location is at 301 Rehoboth Ave., Suite D. Tel. 302-227-5262. That location is at The Shops at the Pearl, where Cultured Pearl is located.
You can find Studio S on Facebook as Studio Jewelry Silver.
Wallets too cute to pass.
Melissa and Christopher Vaxmonsky are the owners of Studio S. Melissa designs all the jewelry that is made at their Ocean City, Maryland, shop and workshop, located at 9927 Stephen Decatur Hwy. F #10. Tel. 410-213-9752.
It was so nice of Melissa to talk to me for a bit. The store was sort of busy for a Monday morning. She told me that everything started with a sewing machine when she was in college. Both, she and her husband, finished their studies, worked, had a family and continued to create pieces of jewelry.
60% of their jewelry is made in-house. The other is brought from overseas. Melissa handpicks personally all of that jewelry, choosing specific designers and pieces with customers in mind.
Studio S also not only engraves jewelry pieces sold by them; they service the community with engraving available for pieces brought into the store by customers, as well as trophies.
I found that this particular store covered all age groups. It even had jewelry and watches for the guys.
Studio S also has artwork by local artists. Bags, scarves and purses that were colorful and fun for the summer.
The store is comfortable with subtle lighting.
The Delaware Beaches are very casual. It is that atmosphere that we love the most. From the beach to cocktails and then dinner. If you have your daughters and friends visiting, some of the fun necklaces and bracelets they are going to love.
Beach fun Necklaces
Beach Fun Bracelets
Studio S does not advertise. It is all about word of mouth. Just like what I am doing right here.
I don’t know if something has caught your eye….if it did, then, you know what to do….Have a great day!

From time to time a friend drags me just like I might drag her….off we go; out and about. Jody and I took to the streets in Rehoboth Beach to have lunch at Dogfish Head. That post comes later. From there we stopped at a jewelry store that appeared on AboutMyBeaches in 2009. I liked it then, and that has not changed a bit.
Heidi Lowe, The Jewelry Studio is located at 328 Rehoboth Ave. Tel. 302-227-9203. Website? www.heidilowejewelry.com.
Heidi was an emerging artist in high school. After so many years she has come to be a full blown artist, whose designs are contemporary, whimsical, and at times, a little bold.
Different exhibits can be found at her Gallery year-round. At present she has an exhibit, Multiples, from various artists from all over the country showing unconventional pieces that are unique and never boring.
Besides being an artist and designer, Heidi also teaches. In the past she has taught at The Rehoboth Art League. At Towson University, in Maryland, you will find her one day a week teaching metalsmithing. A metalsmith, also called a smith, uses metal as a material for making objects.
She also teaches at her Studio. Classes can be held privately or semi-privately. Some of her students have been working hard for years. They are making very unique designs.
Heidi welcomes commissions, as well; engagement rings, wedding rings, wedding party gifts. A custom piece you might have in mind.
Upcoming Events – June 9th until August 6th stay tuned for the 6th Annual Earrings Galore Exhibition, which will feature earrings made by artists all over the country; wide range of styles and formats.

I sat at my computer; ready to write the post on Something Comfortable. Should I start with some funny quote about “underwear”, or should I get down to business. Down to business I chose.
There is nothing better than the feel of intimate apparel. We women do love that. And, there is nothing worse than an ill fitting bra or let’s be honest; underwear is tops. Call it thongs, hanky panky, etc. etc. If it does not fit, you must get relief.
Hanky Panky Thongs
That’s when you visit a store like Something Comfortable. It is going to be almost a year since they moved to their present location at 122 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-227-6180. Website? www.something-comfortable.com. On Facebook? You better believe it, just like everyone else, including AboutMyBeaches.
Granted, good quality underwear is expensive. Almost like you get what you pay for. At Something Comfortable you will find a wide range of prices and brands, as well. In their website you will see the brands that are currently in the store. You might find yours but it is always fun to try something new too. Some of these are P.J. Salvage, Bamboo Nights, Betsey Johnson, P.J. Harlow Dreamwear, Oscar de la Renta, among many others.
A FAQ page will answer practically every question regarding, bras, care and fitting.
I, actually, came to the store to find a present for my sister in law, besides the Chia Pet I am giving her for Christmas. Phyllis was as welcoming as ever. I have not seen her in such a long time. She has been working for Sue Petty, who is the owner of Something Comfortable, for quite awhile. Phyllis is a fitting professional. I also met Carol who is working at the store, as well.
You can call Something Comfortable for a customized fitting appt. Phyllis will guide you and make suggestions. Something you might not thought about will probably look and feel great. You can also just walk in and have a fitting in no time.
I found such a beautiful robe for my sister in law. She had given me a hint. You know how it is. In the process, I also bought a few things for myself. I bought something from Verena Designs which is from High Point, N.C. Made in the U.S. That’s what I am talking about. Women do love to buy and get intimate apparel.
Sitting by the fire on Christmas morning wearing new pj’s, loungewear, or whatever your choice might be, is really nice. I already wore mine, but cannot wait to see when Susie, my sister in law, feels her robe.
Guys, do not despair. The store has about 3 shelves for you. That’s all you need, right? Tommy Bahama boxers, that’s it!! Different colors and styles. Don’t be embarrassed; just go in.
Contour bras are expensive and traveling might cause them to lose their shape. At Something Comfortable they have the bra bags. Again, in different sizes with plenty of protection.
So many of my friends are planning weddings, at the moment. A bridal party is welcomed to shop at Something Comfortable. Just call them up and make an appt.
For the bride they have so many beautiful things; for the honeymoon and every day during that special time.
Wish Lists can be set up through their website; either for a bride, an event or for yourself.
So, if you have been thinking of updating your intimate apparel, this is the place to go. So many colors, varieties, sizes, for every day or for a special occasion.
And last but not least; there is always Spanx. Shapeware, a must for this time of the year and they do have different amounts of compression, if you get my drift.
I had a lot of fun talking to Phyllis and Carol….The store is complete full; so many choices, and quite a store, it is.
Naughty, or, Nice?
Talk to you later….have a good one!!
April 12th, 2011
That sign says it all for me. I know, it’s a little mundane but it is a cloudy day and shoes; my post today. They seem to be on my mind lately. But, I am not kidding you, I think the Delaware Beaches has shoes galore for all types, whether there are outlets or just your regular retail stores.
It must be because shoes are so easy to buy. It does not matter if you have gained weight or not. Is it impulse buying? Or, just something to brighten your day. I get it! Retail therapy with instant gratification. That’s it!!
In2Soles has been at this location for, I think, 2 years now. They are year-round. The location is 170 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-226-5202. Website? www.in2soles.com. To better get a feel for the store you should stop by because they do have very unique brands. Plus you get to meet their mascot.
At this time of the year, just like a lot of other store there are sales. You will find 40% off on selected shoes.
Besides shoes, which is what the store is known for they have accessories like handbags.
A line called Sox Trot of painted knee-highs; solids, prints and stripes. Perfect to wear with boots. Great designs.
An assortment of flip flops.
In2Soles is very well stocked. You will find clogs; Dansko’s new summer designs.
Sandals by B.Z. Moda
Slig Back Espadrilles by Eric Michaels. These ones were in the store last year. The neutral is a new color.
A brand called Camper which is very into recycling. In business for many years. This particular shoe had a huarache look and feel. If you want to learn more about them visit www.camper.com.
There were shoes for more dressy occasions and some had a more conversative look.
Then the more sporty and walking shoes were all around.
Platforms; they are still in.
This particular shoe was very stable and comfortable.
And so were these.
I have to mention the customer that was trying a pair of very cute sandals, and who graciously let met take her picture. They looked so cute on her; she had a very petite foot.
I feel like I just have gone shopping. Anyway, if the shoe fits……
Have a very nice day…talk to you later…..
