According to the 2010 census the population of the town of Dewey Beach is 341 and this number has increase dover the past 10 years.  It definitely increases during the summer when over 30,000 people enjoy what a lot believe to be “a way of life”.

img_3459

Dewey’s location makes it the perfect place to visit for those who love the ocean, the bay, sports, bar hopping, restaurants and entertainment.  All this can be found on a very walkable 1 mile long strip and only 2 blocks wide.

The Atlantic Ocean on one side, the Rehoboth Bay on the other.  Dewey is a summer beach town.

It can get very quiet during the second season but during the week-end, Dewey can still hold its own.  If you are visiting, this is what you will find on Dewey’s calendar.

“The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”  jacque cousteau

It is so true.  So many times I have met people at the beach and the first thing they say is “I have been coming here for years”, whether it has been with family or friends, the beach brings in all of us feelings of nostalgia and serenity.

Last summer on the Boardwalk

Last summer on the Boardwalk

If you happen to be in Rehoboth Beach this week-end, then get ready because the town of Rehoboth has a lot to offer as the week-end approaches.  I call it “a soft opening”, because the gates will open on Memorial Week-End and the season will formally open then.  Once that happens, this small coastal resort will be non-stop with shopping, arts, entertainment, restaurants; the beach and the boardwalk.

Thursday, 5/19 – All You Can Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast and Annual Walk-A-Thon. 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St. in Rehoboth Beach.

100_2260

The breakfast is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under the age of 10.  Then, after eating, the 2 mile Walk-A-Thon begins on the Rehoboth Boardwalk at 9:00 a.m.  That walk is great and don’t forget to touch the end of the boardwalk each way.  That’s a ritual for Boardwalk walkers.  I had to laugh; pancakes, sausage and then walk…or roll, that would be me.

The funds raised will be used to purchase “new” chairs.  For more info. please call 302-227-2055.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Events, Activities, 10/9/10 – 10/10/10, Delaware Beaches

101_0003

I took a drive through Rehoboth Avenue.  It looked like summer.  Crowded, very crowded.  So many events and activities in all the beaches.

The fall is the perfect time to visit all the beach resorts.  It is our Second Season; festivals, benefits, fundraising events, runs, walks, you name it.

100_2322

Everything that make our beaches sizzle in the summer is at your fingertips; popcorn, candy, pizza, french fries, the beach and of course great restaurants.  You know, Rehoboth Beach; being such a small coastal town, but the restaurants are amazing, offering the best in local cuisine.
