Location, location, location….Tanger Outlets….open so early on Sunday a.m.? Seaside Outlet Drive in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was so crowded. It was an event that is so dear to many residents and visitors. Racing or walking for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. In its 5th year, it brought record crowds. The host? Tanger Outlets.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition …”It is the only organization in the state of Delaware focused solely on breast health issues as they afflict the women and men who live here.” To know more about this organization, please visit http://www.debreastcancer.org.
DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run? Walk is an event for all ages. Participants can choose to take part in a timed 5K Run, a 5K Walk, or a 1-Mile Fun Walk. It is held rain or shine. Some came in teams and others just hugged as they considered themselves survivors!
All proceeds benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in our local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.
They were ready….the music was getting all in attendance pumped.
Then I saw the object flying over my head; don’t think a lot of people noticed….a drone, handled by a gentlemen who was volunteering for the event. Up to the minute images would be captured.
The food tent was getting ready for a huge post race party with beer and wine garden, and a coffee bar.
DE-Feet Breast Cancer Run/Walk will be back next year. The Delaware Beaches is a great place to fundraise….it is a destination!

There is no place like Dewey Beach during the summer at the Delaware Beaches. It is a playground for both, the young, and the more matured…..having the Atlantic Ocean on one side of the road and the Bay on the other is “fun land”.
The town is very small and very casual. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and entertainment once the summer season starts. So, what’s going on?
It seems that this coming week-end is the official opening of Dewey Beach. If you are visiting us at the Delaware Beaches we hope you have an amazing time. Shop local, eat local….stay awhile!

This event is fundraising for Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, helping to raise awareness through education. Saturday, April 26th – DOODLES IN DEWEY – This is an annual Spring Event on Dewey Beach…Love Doodles? Check http://www.doodlesindewey.com. This event started in 2005 as a fundraiser for the Food and Friends organization. It was a way to honor a young man who died from AIDS. He was a teacher, a counselor and a dog lover. Saturday, April 26th – DEWEY BEACH BACON FEST – I really don’t know why the do this to us. It is a rollercoaster. Fat, a little fat, lots of fat….anyway if you can’t fight them join them. Who doesn’t like bacon? It is in every restaurant I have been lately. The new “it” food. Great weather throughout the Delaware Beaches….Warm and balmy during the day, cooler evenings!! Couldn’t ask for a better time on Coastal Delaware! And….October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!
Dewey Beach has been looking a little quieter in the past week, but watch out because Dewey is a destination this week-end with the following events going on:
Friday, 10/4 – Sunday, 10/6 – DEWEY’S GOLDEN JUBILEE!! I guess the Golden Retrievers have seen how much fun the Greyhounds have in Dewey that they have decided to join in the fun. It will be a Golden Retriever’s Week-End. This is a first for Dewey with these amazing dogs and companions hitting Dewey.

Each year over 700 guests attend this event which benefits Meals On Wheels Delaware and the homebound seniors this organization provides for. 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tickets are $75/person.

Looking for something to do in Rehoboth Beach besides shopping on the last day of the Spring Sidewalk Sales? So, What’s Going On?
Sunday, 5 /19 – 4th Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk at the Tanger Outlet Center, Rehoboth Beach, Seaside, at 36470 Seaside Outlet Drive. Time? 8:00 a.m. Join the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition for this event….rain or shine! It will include a 5K run and walk as well as a 1-Mile Fun Walk. Run/Walk kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with registration opening at 7 a.m. You can still register online by visiting http://www.debreastcancer.org, click on events and scroll down to the date.
Funland will be opening on Sunday games and rides at 1 p.m. Located on the south side of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. I know those kids will be driving you crazy if it rains.

And so is Beach Arcade on the north side of the Boardwalk, next to Dolle’s.
Sunday, 5/19 – Last Performance at 3:00 p.m. – 9 to 5: The Musical – Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton, Book by Patricia Resnick. All of the madcap hilarity of the movie is intact, intertwined with Dolly Parton’s score that is part Broadway and part pop, a little bit country, and all toe-tapping fun! The groundhog showed that it will be an early Spring!!…..waiting. Friday, 2/22 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents a showcase of this year’s Academy Award contenders for the Best Live Action Short Film. You will have the opportunity to weigh in and cast your own vote for the winner. This year’s slate of nominees include “Asad”, “Buzkashi Boys”, “Curfew”, “Death of a Shadow (Dood van een Schaduw)”, and “Henry”. Saturday, 2/23 – In the past few years I have had very good friends diagnosed with breast cancer. Thank God they are all doing well after going through treatments, very courageously, I might add. Southern Lights of Life is an Evening of Living and Giving, sponsored by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware. From Rehoboth Beach, it takes about 1/2 hour. Dress code is Business to Glamorous. Cocktails at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and Silent Auction. The program, dinner and the Live Auction will start at 8 p.m., followed by the fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors as the models. Tickets are $150. Saturday, 2/23 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents an informative documentary entitled “Cafeteria Man” as part of their 2012-2013 “On Screen/In Person” film tour, which brings filmmakers and their films together to participating communities. It will take place at 7 p.m. in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway, located on Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. This engaging profile tells the true story of a rebellious, charismatic chef from New Orleans, Tony Geraci, and his mission to radically reform Baltimore’s public school food system by replacing pre-plated, processed food with locally grown freshly prepared meals. Geraci’s recipe for change takes him, and the audience, from Baltimore to the halls of Congress and the While House. This film was first screened at the 2011 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival.

It was 7 a.m. on Saturday when I went to see how The Starboard looked in Dewey Beach…it was quiet but they were completely set up.
Go the distance this morning as a 3.1 mile run/walk or 1.5 mile non-competitive walk gets underway at The Starboard Restaurant, on Highway One, Dewey Beach, Delaware.
This is an all day party, benefiting the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, and honoring the memory of Barbara “Gugie” Montgomery and all those that have fought Breast Cancer.
So many sponsors on board for this event.

Timing? NOVA Timing Systems will chip time using the MyLaps bib tags.
Amenities? In a town that knows how to throw a party the amenities will be plenty. Performance tech tees, goodie bag, post race refreshments, live music, Pig Roast BBQ, beer and more.

 Almost that time of the Year!! Founded in 1631 Lewes is located where the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It is such a walkable town; shops, restaurants, museums all within a few blocks. The scenery is beautiful and the residents are so protective of this very first town in the first state.

Thursday, 2/23 – The Zwaanendael Museum located at 102 Kings Highway presents Archaeological Illustration Through Stipple Drawing” Tips of the Trade. It is a workshop on illustrating historical artifacts through the art of stipple drawing. Led by historical interpreter and artist, Sharyn Murray.  At Cape Henlopen State Park The Cape Henlopen State Park encompasses over 7,000 acres of beach, dune, forest and wetland at the mount of the Delaware Bay. There are 4 miles of ocean and 2 miles of bay beach.
The State Park is so important for all of us that live at the Delaware Beaches. It is enjoyed by so many visitors, as well. Saturday, 2/25 – It is the Semi-Annual Book Fair hosted by the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park. Food and homemade baked goods will be available. This is a private, non-profit (501(c)3) member-supported organization working with the Division of Parks and Recreation and staff of Cape Henlopen State Park.
This group holds throughout the year different fundraising events like Bird Seed Sales, Used Book Fairs, Chocolate Tastings, Wine, Cheese, & Beer Tastings, Flea Markets and Fishing Tournaments. You can check them out at http://www.friendsofcapehenlopen.org.
This Saturday is their book fair at the Seaside Nature Center, which is inside the Cape Henlopen State Park. Book donations can be dropped off Friday, the 24th, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Events like this one support activities at the Park like Borrow-A-Bike Program, Monthly Trails Day, Playground Program, Park Beautification, and the Osprey Camera.
Saturday, 2/25 – Cold War at Fort Miles at 11 a.m. Take a tour of Fort Miles and learn what took place on this base during the Cold War. Hear tales of Doomsday ships, Soviet spies, tracking Soviet submarines and more. For ages 10 and older with an adult. $3/ person. Please call to register at 302-645- 6852. You will need to meeet at the Orientation Building in the Fort Miles Historic Area. To get there, follow the “Fort Miles” signs to the Historic Area parking lot. Walk the paved road through the Cantonment Area to the Orientation Bldg. which is the last large building on your right.
Fort Miles was a key part of the nation’s coastal defense during and After WWII. In April of 2005 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Saturday, 2/25 – Turtles, Snakes & People…Oh My!! at 2 p.m. at the Seaside Nature Center inside the Cape Henlopen State Park. See live turtles and snakes and learn how these animals have been used in different cultures. Hear stories and legends, and discover the truth behind some of the myths. For ages 5 and older with an adult. Registration is required so please call 302-645- 6852. $2/person
