Destination? Downtown Rehoboth Beach. How has everyone being doing on such a hot day? They mentioned the heat wave so much on the news, that I actually did not feel it was that bad.
If you are coming to Rehoboth Beach this week-end…my tour begins right at the end of Rehoboth Avenue, the Bandstand and the Beach. If you are traveling by local bus, that’s where you will be dropped off.
If you are traveling by car, parking can be a test of your patience. If you need change for quarters, there are Change Stations all through Rehoboth Avenue.
It was a gorgeous day; just what you would expect summer to be. The beaches were crowded. Those colorful umbrellas up and down the beaches today.
Once you have parked in Rehoboth just take off walking. It is an easy town for walking. Everything is very accessible. The places I will be mentioning here are all centered around the Bandstand and the Boardwalk.
Dolles has been an institution at the Delaware Beaches…this is a very recognizable sign. Known for their fudge and salt water taffy.
If you do get tired, there are plenty of white wooden benches. You can adjust the backs to either look at the beach or towards town.
When you think of coming to the Delaware Beaches, Rehoboth Beach is on top of the list. This coastal town has everything to offer. Fantastic restaurants. The chefs are outdoing themselves. We, the ones that like to eat, love it year round.
So many shops for everyone’s taste and budget. Tax free shopping is the icing on the cake.
The beaches bring you to Rehoboth Beach; the Boardwalk grub is what you will always remember.
Today, people mentioned that they have been coming to Rehoboth Beach since they were little….one of the first stops, Grotto Pizza.
Grotto has been in the community for many years. Again, there are other pizza places in town. Everyone has a favorite. Perhaps is the way they place the cheeses, sauce, etc. etc. Hey guess what? Grotto has gluten free pizza.
Then, others might like Nicola Pizza. Another favorite. I love their crust.
Fisher’s Popcorn. Caramel my favorite. Hot off the press!! The best and very addictive. Watch out, you will be mailing it all over the country and beyond like I have done.
On a hot day, freshly squeeze orange juice and lemonade…fantastic!!
At the entrance of Penny Lane Mall
Candy Kitchen in every corner…so don’t despair. Plenty of candy, chocolate, toys, and kids love it!!
Thrasher’s French Fries….have you ever had them? Just fried, salt and vinegar. People line up and forget about dieting for a moment. Just enjoy it!! And, don’t just have one. Several locations around Rehoboth Beach.
Today I was not buying any fries so I asked people if I could take the picture of their fries. They did not hesitate.
First the girls were sharing a small one.
Then the couple had a larger one.
But, when I saw the big bucket, I knew that was the picture!! Huge and with vinegar on the side.
You know what? The t-shirt shops and all that beach stuff did not bother me today. It’s part of the Boardwalk. That’s they way it is. It would not be the same without them.
Custard. I love it too. Best is Kohr Bros. The orange and vanilla sounded like a good idea. Again, they let me take the picture.
Funland is Rehoboth Beach. It is great for kids and adults too.
My favorite game? Whac-A-Mole
Today, the horse races were crowded.
So, I decided to walk back to my car….Wow, it got so crowded on the Boardwalk all of a sudden.
I had two stops left…..Annie Banannies and Cake Break…I’ll tell you all about them tomorrow.
Have Fun!!

I lived in the town of Bethany Beach for so many years. The parade was so much fun. Years ago candy was thrown and kids would go crazy for it. Children in bikes, probably just decorated with ribbons here an there. It really was great and I am so glad the tradition continues.
Important Notice: No Trolley Service on the 4th of July in Bethany Beach from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Service will resume at 3:00 p.m.
The town of Bethany Beach is honoring, this year, the formation of the Delaware Militia in the Revolutionary War. The present Delaware National Guard evolved from the Militia, and their 287th Army Band of the Delaware Army National Guard continues the proud tradition of “Liberty and Independence of the Delaware Regiment”. They will be marching at the head of this year’s parade.
The Grand Marshal is Major General Frank Vavalla, Adjunct General of the Delaware National Guard.
Noon – Parade will start immediately following Ms. Carter singing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the reviewing stand.
2:00 p.m. – The 24th Annual Horseshoe Throwing Contest will start right after the parade. It will be located at the south west corner of the Christian Church Grounds. Two categories: Professional and Amateur.
2:00 p.m. – The 3rd Annual Blueberry Pie Eating Contest will also be going at the same time as the Horseshoe Throwing Contest. Location? Adjacent to the Christian Church Building. Children and adults, ages 5-80 are invited to participate.
7:15 p.m. – Award Ceremony at the Band Stand.
7:30 p.m. – The Milford Community Band will present a concert at the Band Stand.
Dusk – Fireworks!! Plan accordingly; traffic will be heavy; parking will be a challenge.

Rehoboth Beach looked gorgeous tonight. A magnificent moon shining over Silver Lake.
The signs are already in place, making sure everyone knows where to go on one of the busiest days in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Over 80,000 people will be arriving in our Nation’s Summer Capital to watch amazing fireworks along the award winning Rehoboth Boardwalk and up and down the beach.
If I were you, I would come mid afternoon and plan on staying for the duration. But, if that’s not what you are planning on doing, then follow this easy instructions and just be patient and enjoy your stay.

I was so glad to finally made it to Abbott’s Grill. This restaurant, located at 249 NE Front Street, Milford, Delaware, is only about 20 minutes away from Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey. It takes no time to get there. Plus, there is plenty of parking. You know how important that is at this time of the year. And, to top it all, their food is excellent.
Telephone? 302-491-6736. Website? http://www.abbottsgrill.com.
My friend, Susan, and I arrived for lunch. We had seating options. Of course we sat outside. Anytime that is available, I take that opportunity. I don’t know, for some reason, the food even tastes better. It is so much more enjoyable. Their outdoor dining felt comfortable and on fall, winter and spring nights, the fire will be roaring.
Abbotts Grill has a large bar.
It was so nice to see Laura and to meet Kevin and Ryan.
Susan and I proceeded to check the menu and we decided to split their Caprese Salad. Ryan told us that those were the first local tomatoes of the season. Just in, from Fifer Farms. Besides the tomatoes, it also had hand-pulled mozzarella, and the most delicious basil pesto.
Then, Susan chose the Colvine Farm Bison Burger. Colvine Farm is located in the town of Greenwood, Delaware. Back on August 6th of 2010, I wrote a post with pictures. You can go under the Archives and click on that month and scroll down to the day.
The Bison Burger had grilled portobello, smoked onions, applewood smoke bacon, and white cheddar. Juicy, and cooked to perfection.
I wanted to try something different and what caught my attention was the Groovy Lavash Wrap with hummus, cucumber, tomato, goat cheese, and local greens. The wrap was so crispy; a nice crunch to it, and warm to the touch. The rest was perfect on a hot summer day; good combination of flavors.
The cole slaw was so good. It was sweetened with pineapple juice. It had a good consistency; one of the best I have had.
Abbott’s Grill opens 7 days a week. Lost of events and specials every day of the week.
Sunday Brunch with a $5 Fix-It-Your-Way Bloody Mary Bar. 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. There is a la carte menu, $3 Mimosas, Pancakes, Eggs Benedict, Crepes, Omelettes and more.
Mondays is $6 Burger Night!!
Tuesdays is Team Trivia.
Wednesday is 1/2 price bottles of select wine.
Thursday is $5 “Tinis”.
Friday and Saturday is Live Music and DJs!!
4th of July Patio Party on Wednesday, 7/4!! From 5:00 p.m. ’till… $4 Drinks, $4 Grill Menu, Live Entertainment.
July 14th is Bastilles Day. Abbott’s Grill Loves Wine and is celebrating with Bernie’s Wine Tastings. There will be an expanded tasting with lunch on the 14th from 12 – 2 p.m. $35/person.
Note: My server was great. I had known her from another restaurant in Rehoboth years ago…I have to apologize, but the name escapes me as of this writing. She was great, told me how to make my own balsamic reduction and now I am hooked.
Also, please note that Abbott’s Grill can handle customers with gluten allergies.
Have a Good One!! Thanks !!
