What’s Going On?…Events…Activities…Delaware Beaches…Rehoboth Beach…Ocean City, Maryland…Delray Beach, Florida…A very busy week-end…

 

 I think I am beginnin to notice a rise in the events and activities at the Delaware Beaches and Ocean City, Maryland.  I guess it is getting warmer and people are out and about.

Delray Beach is at the height of their season and it is crowded and warmer there.

This is what is in store for you if you are visiting any of these beaches:

 

Friday, 3/12 through Sunday, 3/14 – The 19th Annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Delaware, at 1:00 p.m.  Rehoboth Ave. and the Boardwalk.  I wrote a post about this event on March 7th.  All you have to do is scroll down to that date.  More information?  Please visit www.plungede.org.

Saturday, 3/13 – Second Saturday Destination Art Walk.  Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  From 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Check out the downtown art galleries.  For more info. please visit www.mosaicrehoboth.com.

 

Ocean City, Maryland

Saturday, 3/13 is the AGEHR III Spring Festival – It is an annual handbell concert featuring 350+ handbell ringers.  It is free and open to the public. Location: Ocean City Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway.  Tel. 800-626-2326.  At 4:45 p.m.

Saturday, 3/13 – St. Patrick’s Day Parade – 60 St. South to 45 St. on Coastal Highway.  It is Maryland’s second largest St. Patty’s Day Parade.  Parade starts at Noon.  For more information, please call 410-289-6156.

Saturday, 3/13 and Sunday, 3/14 – It is the 30th Annual Ocean City Hot Rod & Custom Car Show.  This is the premier indoor car show, showcasing some of the top cars in the Mid-Atlantic area along with special attractions and live entertainment.  It will be held at the Ocean City Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway.  Saturday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  There will be an admission charge.  For more info. please go to http://www.oceancitycarshows.com. Delray Beach, Florida

Friday, 3/12 at 7:00 p.m. – Bob Morris will be signing the First Edition of Baja Florida which is the 5th book in the Zak Chasteen series.

Sunday, 3/14 at 3:00 p.m. – The Sunday Sleuths Book Group discusses The Wrong Mother by Sophie Hannah.

Monday, 3/15 at 7:00 p.m. – Randy Wayne White signs First Edition of Deep Shadow.

Friday, 3/12 at the Crest Theater, located at the Old School Square Cultural Arts Center, at 7:00 p.m. Address is 51 N. Swinton Ave., Tel. 561-243-7922.  Website is http://www.oldschool.org.  Broadway star and recording artist, Avery Sommers, will be performing a special concert of Broadway tunes from America’s Songbook and will share career highlights and memories of performances with Nell Carter, Burt Reynolds and othe stars. 

This concert is to benefit the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum of Delray Beach.  The Spady Museum is a non-profit organization located at 170 NW 5th Ave., in Delray.  The museum is dedicated to discovering, collecting and sharing the African-American history and heritage of Florida.  For tickets please call the museum at 561-279-8883.

Saturday, 3/13 – Green Market – 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.  In the street on SE 4th Ave., just South of Atlantic Ave.  This is a great market with local produce, music, food and flowers.  I wrote a post on this Market on Saturday, 2/27.  To see it, all you have to do is go under Archives on my blog on the left hand and click on February and scroll to the date. You will be able to see photos.

Saturday, 3/13 – Ride and Remember – Historic Tour of Delray Beach.  Riders will take a tour of Delray Beach with the main focus being 5 historic districts.  It is a 2 hour bus tour that is interactive and narrated by people who are passionate about preserving Delray Beach.  Riders will disembark for a closer look at 3 historical sites along the way.  Departure location: Delray Beach Parking Garage at NE 1st St and NE 1st Ave., at 10:00 a.m. $12 for member, $15 for adults, $10 for children.  Reservations: 561-279-8883.  Sponsored by the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum.

Saturday, 3/13 – St. Patrick’s Day Party at Old School Square, located at 51 N. Swinton Ave. from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.  Pre and post parade party.  Food, drinks and live Irish music.  The parade will be from 2 until 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, 3/13 – Parade – Party – Beer Pong! – Beginning at 2:00 p.m. downtown Delray Beach. Join Square One as they march with friends from Tim Finnegans Irish Pub in Delray’s St. Patty’s Day Parade.

Then, meet them at Tim Finnegans for an all Irish After Party.  Square members get a free green beer with their membership card.  The mayhem will continue from 5 until 9 p.m. as Square One and Tim Finnegans co-host the 1st Annual Irish Beer Pong Tourney.  $20 per participant to play.  Winner gets a cut and remaining proceeds go to Old School Square’s Arts Scholarships Fund!!  For more details, email Rocio at rdavis@oldschool.org or call 561-243-7922, ext. 307.

Sunday, 3/14 – Black N Bleu Art & Music Festival at Old School Square Entertainment Pavilion.  Address is 51 N Swinton Ave.  This is a fundraising event for Tri-County Humane Society and Big Rivers Children’s Foundation.  It starts at 12 until 6 p.m.  Over 75 booths to display works of art and sell their creations, as well.  Admission is $7 and kids under 12 are free.  More info? Saturday 3/13 and Sunday 3/14 – Arts & Crafts Show and Sell Trunk Show – Location:  Art-Sea Living Gallery & Studio, 1628 S.
