I have great neighbors and they shoveled my driveway.  Thanks Rob and Robby for a job well done.  Neighbors like you are priceless!!!

Lots of snow still in and around the beaches.  But, the show must go on with events and activities for the week.

 

Lewes

Tuesday, 2/2 – 2/28 – Frank Schoonover Retrospective Exhibit by the Lewes Historical Society in conjunction with Peninsula Gallery at 530 E. Savannah Rd.

Frank Schoonover was an American Illustrator, (1877-1972).  Born in New Jersey, he later became part of the Brandywine School.  He was a prolific contributor to books and magazines during the early 20th century.  He helped organize the Delaware Museum of Art and was Chairman of the Fundraising Committee. He was locally known as the “Dean of Delaware Artists”.  He died at 94, leaving behind more than 2,000 illustrations.  This info. was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Schoonover.

Thursday, 2/4 – First Thursdays – Celebrate Lewes Life in the Historic District from 6 – 8 p.m.  A celebration the first Thursday of each month with street fest live entertainment, story tellings and seasonally themed craft activities for the whole family.  There will be demonstrations and extented shopping hours.

Sunday, 2/7 – Clear Space Productions will present “An American Songbook” at the Little Theater at the Cape Henlopen High School at 3:00 p.m.  There will be music from Guys & Dolls, Oklahoma, Jekyll and Hyde, Meet me in St. Louis and many more.  And, don’t worry, you will be able to get home to watch the Super Bowl.  For more info. and purchase of tickets please go to www.clearspaceproductions.org.

 

Rehoboth Beach

Wednesday, 2/3 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, the Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway are proud to sponsor the monthly film series, Around the World.  This series features criticially acclaimed, award-winning, international independent films.  It takes place at 7:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, from Sept. until May, in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway.  They are free and open to the public.  For more info, contact the Film Society at 302-645-9095 or the Lewes Public Library at 302-645-2733.  This Wednesday the film will be THE DRUMMER – Sid is the rebellious son of Kwan, a controlling and savage mob boss in Hong Kong.  Upon enraging his father’s adversary, a powerful tycoon and underground business leader, Sid is forced to flee to Taiwan.  Hiding out in….Not rated, with subtitles and 118 minutes.

Friday, 2/5 – Winter Jam to Benefit the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation at the Convention Center located on Rehoboth Ave. 7 – 11 p.m.  $15 admission and cash bar.  Complimentary light fare, with silent auction and the Funsters.  Dress is casual.  Would you like to donate to the Silent Auction?  Please contact Christine King by Monday, February 1st at christineking@comcast.net.

Saturday, 2/6 – Race.  5K Run to the Plunge starting at the Boarkwalk and Rehoboth Ave.  Benefit – The Special Olympics Delaware.  Warm up before plunging into the Atlantic on Sunday the 7th.  For registration and info. go to www.plungede.org.  This race is organized by Tim Bamforth of the Seashore Striders.

Ocean City, Maryland

Delray Beach, Florida

Even though it has been cold in Delray Beach, and for that matter all over Florida, well, it does not compare with what we have had here.

So, at this time of the year Delray Beach, Florida is at the height of its season and a few of the events going on are:

Saturday, 2/6 – Trash & Treasure Yard Sale – Under the Big tent at the Old School Square Entertainment Pavillion.  Spring into 2010 and Start your Spring Cleaning Now!!  Rent a 10×10 plot for $25 to sell your wares.  It is a tax deductible donation to Old School Square, Inc.  Receipts for donations are available.  No refunds will be given for no-shows or rain.  Old School Square is located on 51 N. To participate as a vendor you will need to register for a plot and pay the entry fee of $25 by 2/5 at the Administrative Office, Crest Theatre Building. 

The Old School Square, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.  This National Historic Site houses the Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture, Crest Theatre, and Vintage Gymnasium in restored early 20th Century school buildings.  Facilities and grounds are available for rental.

Saturday, 2/6 – Green Market – 8 – 1 p.m. on SE 4th Ave. from the first alleyway south of Atlantic Ave. to SE 1st St.  This is a great way to start your Saturday morning.  Local baked goods and so much more.
