The book, Dewey Beach History & Tales, is just that, the history and the tales of a town and its residents.  The people responsible for this book did not want to lose all the information; they compiled the book with photographs.  It is very interesting.  If you  love Dewey, you will really enjoy this book.

Dewey’s slogan is; “Dewey Beach, A Way of Life”.  But, at the turn of the century it was mostly known for its Rural Way of Life.  The people that came to Dewey to live, farmed the land or lived the rural lifestyle.

My husband was telling me that he had vacationed in Dewey probably 59 years ago.  First, his family would have to take the ferry across the Chesapeake Bay.  At that time, in Dewey, there were small dunes and cottages in between them.  They would have to go to the center of the town, near the Bottle & Cork, to a central well in order to get water.

How times have changed.  Dewey has the advantage of having the Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.  It is the perfect playground for the young, the matured, and the young at heart.  And it is the source of inspiration for artists and photographers.

Saturday, May 12th, the Dewey Arts Fest will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the Bay at Dagsworthy Ave.  It is a free event, sponsored by Dewey Business Partnership.

The event is expecting plenty of juried artists and crafters to display jewelry, painting, glasswork, quilting, woodwork, photography and mixed media.

The Dewey Arts Fest will also have face painting, balloons, food, music, raffles, giveaways and an art-themed kids’ moon bounce.

A Magic Show?  You bet.  At 12:30 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m.

After the festival, community group, Friends of Dewey, will host Wine and Waves, an all-ages bonfire, from 4:30 to 9 p.m., on the beach, at Dagsworthy Ave.  The event features a Bring Your Own Bottle wine tasting.

Dagsworthy Ave. bayside will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday.  The parking restrictions will begin tonight, Friday.  Free parking is available throughout Dewey.

I don’t think it is going to rain.  But, just in case, the rain date would be on Sunday, May 13th.

They are hoping this event marks the beginning of many in the years to come.  For more info., please visit www.deweybusinesspartnership.com.

Have a great time!!
