Richard Clifton, Artist, Waterfowl Artist, Acrylics, Delaware Artist

When I met him I thought he was quiet and reserved.  But aren’t artists pretty much that way?  They don’t need to make themselves known; their art says it all.

I attended an Artist’s Reception last Friday at the offices of Delaware Realty at 117 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE.

As I entered the offices, Richard Clifton’s paintings were displayed for all of us to see and enjoy.  Cocktails and appetizers were served, as well.

When I meet someone with such an artistic gift, I find myself at a loss for words, if you can imagine that.  I cannot draw a straight line.

Richard told me that painters are also good photographers.  At times he refers to photos; others are in his memory.

As I looked at the paintings on displayed the waterfowl images were so inspiring and they filled me with awe and wonder.  They were truly beautiful.

Richard is a self-taught artist who chooses acrylics as his medium; the genre of waterfowl is his specialty.  His work has been shown at the country’s finest art shows.  He is one of the tops; all-time list for awards.

Inspiration for his work is drawn from his surroundings.  He lives adjacent to Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.

In 1991 he won his first duck stamp contest.  The first of many, including Federal Duck Stamps, as well.

“Duck Stamps” are pictorial stamps produced by the U.S. Postal Service for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; not valid for postage.

Since 1934 the Federal Duck Stamps have been a vital tool for wetland conservation. The program has helped to place over 5 million acres under the protection of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System.

I had taken some pictures at Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach.  As I looked at these pictures now, and then see Richard’s paintings, I can’t get over how real his paintings look.  Here are my pictures:

The Across the Marsh Egret was one of my favorites.  Thanks to Richard for posing.

I love watching the geese migrate through our area.  I hear them and I always look up.  Almost wishing them a good trip on that long migration.

I walked around several times through the room and the one that I kept coming back to again and again was the Peregrine Falcon.  He was fearless, strong and imposing.

He is fantastic.  Keeping a watchful eye.

To be able to express yourself in such a way……priceless!!

Several years ago I purchased a fairly large painting of two sandpipers on the beach with plants growing and several stones on the ground. It is on canvas with an aluminum frame. I bought the item at an auction in Sebring, Florida. The painting is signed Clifton.

    Is this possibly your work.
