A couple of years ago I first saw them in action in Fenwick Island, Delaware when a whale washed up dead on the beach.  They were there to inform the public and to take the whale for research and disposal.

J. Conn Scott, Rehoboth Beach, Show House, Furniture, Home Accessories, Gifts, Design Services, Delaware Beaches

dscn7980

Rehoboth Beach is a year-round destination.  It is known for its beaches, restaurants and that casual atmosphere we all seek when we hit the beach.  It is a very walkable town.  At this time of the year, it is even better.  Just park and take off walking…no meters; Hurray!!

So many stores.  You can find gifts for any occasion.  Some of the shops are located in quaint vintage houses that were, at some point, homes to some of the residents in Rehoboth Beach.

I decided to stop at J. Conn Scott.  This Show House is located at 27 Baltimore Avenue.  It is in one of those vintage houses, and on the ocean block; the corner of First Street & Baltimore.  Tel. 302-227-3780.  Website? http://www.jconnscott.com.  J. Conn Scott has its Main Showroom at 6 East Coast Church St., Selbyville, DE 19975.  Tel. 302-436-8205.

What’s neat about the Show House in Downtown Rehoboth Beach is that it changes, practically, every week.  It is a source of inspiration for some…for others is a great place to shop.  I think the Show House offers a more casual look.  We are at the beach, afterall.  The Main Showroom in Selbyville offers furniture, accessories, and art, from traditional to coastal.

J. Conn Scott has designers that are always available to help you.  The help of a designer can help reduce cost, time and energy.

I was looking for a wedding present.  I knew what I wanted.  So, when I stopped by, it was not with the idea of writing a post for my blog.  But, then, I could not help it.  The store looked great.  I took one picture, then another….then I could not stop. This is how the Show House looks this week.

The Show House flows like a house.  An entry, followed by rooms all decorated and accessorized.

Fried Pickles!, Fish Tacos!, Pork Flatliner!, Warm Pretzel Turkey Sandwich!, A Cuban Press!, Southwestern Salad!, Asian Bistro Salad!, Evolution Beer!…at the Pickled Pig Pub, Gastropub, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

dscn4531

Gastronomy is the art of food eating.  In Rehoboth Beach we have one of those restaurants that is a blend of gastronomy and pub. Connoisseurs of beers will tell you that this pub is known for having a wide variety of beers; among those, are the local brews; Delaware and Maryland.

The Pickled Pig Pub is located at 18756 Coastal Highway, on Rt. 1 Harbor Square, Rehoboth Beach. Tel. 302-645-5444.  Website? http://www.pickledpigpub.com.  It opens at 11:30 a.m. Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m.  Happy Hours from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.  Plenty of parking available.

As I write this post I am starting to get hungry.  Even though the Pickled Pig Pub offers dinner, I have only gone for lunch.  My post is based on my lunch experiences with my friend, Jody, and my son Michael at different times.

As you go into the restaurant you will have a couple of seating choices.  Tables and booths.  You can also sit at the bar, which is located towards the end of the restaurant.

dscn7639

A cheese board that changes regularly will get your attention.

dscn7648

The very first I came to the Pickled Pig it was because I wanted to try their fried pickles.  I had heard so much about them.  They are home battered, Kosher-dills with a spicy dipping sauce.  They are truly delicious.  So far, they are my favorites in the area.

dscn7638

This past year I have gotten into fish tacos more than ever.  Every time I see them on the menu, I will try them.  The Pickled Pig’s Twin Battered Fish Tacos with pickled red onions, jalapenos, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, cilantro and a chipotle sauce will become favorites, without a doubt.  I believe the day I had these ones, the fish used was grouper.

dscn5990

On one of my visits, my server, suggested I tried the Pork Flatliner.  It turned out to be a really good sandwich.  It is also pretty big.  You might not be able to have the fried pickles if you are ordering this one.  It had smoked pit ham, sredded pork, pork belly bacon, smoked cheddar, southern B.B.Q. style sauce and pickles on a toasted panini.

dscn7647

The Warm Pretzel Turkey Sandwich was tried by one of my fellow diners and he loved it.  It is a big portion.  The combination of shaved turkey, red onions, and cranberry cream cheese on a toasted pretzel bread, definitely hit the spot.

dscn7641

I love a good Cubano.  The version served at the Pickled Pig did not disappoint.  It was smoked pit ham, shredded pork, pickles, Swiss cheese and a Dijon spread on a pressed panini roll.

dscn5991

I do enjoy salads and I order them all the time; mostly for lunch.  The Southwestern Salad at the Pickled Pig has grilled chicken, chopped lettuces, pico de gallo, queso fresco, plenty of jalapenos!!, tortilla strips and a chipotle ranch dressing.  If you like jalapenos, this salad is for you.

dscn4535

Jody decided on the Asian Bistro Salad.  I have had this salad before and it is perfect on a hot summer day.  Or, when you want something a little lighter.  It had crispy wontons, napa-bok choy cabbages, cilantro, carrots, spicy ginger vinaigrette, and peanuts.

dscn4534

A little local beer from Evolution was the perfect addition to their meal.

dscn7636

The Pickled Pig Pug has plenty of events going on at the present time.  Their Beer Dinners are worth checking into.  To find out about their events, please visit http://www.pickledpigpub.com/specials.php.

Note:  The Pickled Pig has a frequent diners card.  Ask for it when you go.

dscn7953

The Pickled Pig Pub has a sister restaurant in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  It is called The Pig + Fish.  Check out their website at http://www.thepigandfish.com.

Have fun discovering all the eateries in Rehoboth Beach!!  Talk to you later.

Dining in Rehoboth Beach, Eden, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches…The combination of presentation, creativity and taste is what sets Eden apart!!

dscn7933

I must have looked like I did not know where I was going, as I checked Eden’s menu.  Two couples said “there are no bad restaurants in Rehoboth Beach”.  I turned around and answered “I know, I live here”.  With that the conversation continued as to what restaurant they should go to on Sunday evening.  I told them that my choice was Eden.  I quickly told them a bit about the restaurant and I also told them about other restaurants in the area.  Then I said “read my post on AboutMyBeaches”.

In the meantime, my friends arrived.  We were looking forward to this dinner.  I mean it when I say that Eden has never failed me.  The combination of presentation, creativity and taste really does set them apart.  It is quiet inside, with just the right music on the background.  Tables and booths are the choices of seating.

dscn7936

Eden is located at 23 Baltimore Avenue, in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website? http://www.edenrestaurant.com.  The restaurant also has outdoor dining.  On summer nights or balmy fall evenings, it is a nice place to have dinner.

dscn7932

Danielle was going to be taking care of us.  She was so attentive and so professional.  Her suggestions were perfect.  I wanted to try something different and she guided me to dishes that contained amazing flavors.

When reviewing a restaurant, it can be said that we eat with our eyes at first; a beautiful presentation starts the process.  Eden offers that and so much more.  You don’t want it to end.

So, on Sunday night this was our experience.

Only 2 of us wanted appetizers, and we both ordered the same thing.  Truffled parsnip and Mushroom Salad – Spinach, Toasted Hazelnuts, Ricotta Salata.  Danielle told us how the salad was wrapped and how the flavors with the toasted hazelnuts were going to be so different and good.  She was right!

dscn7941

An entree of Wasabi/Sesame Crusted #1 Ahi Tuna, with sticky rice, seaweed salad, wasabi, and soy sauce.  This tuna will melt in your mouth.

dscn7943

Another entree that was very well received was the Grilled Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope, toasted Farro, heirloom carrots, Fifer white peaches, brussel sprouts, blueberry/black cardamon savory demi.

dscn7944

An order of grilled artichokes hearts for the table…tasty.

dscn7945

The Pan Roasted Salmon was beautiful and got good reviews, as well.  It had a lima and white bean saute, crispy rutabaga, maitake mushrooms, creamy butternut squash puree, and mizuna pesto.

dscn7942

I loved my entree.  I really did.  It was Braised Pork Ragu, with caramelized pearl onions, roasted apples, wild mushroom confit, rosemary fazzoletti and nutmeg/ricotta foam.  Lots of different flavors in this dish.  A fazzoletti is a pasta handkerchief; they are delicate.

dscn7946

Our dinner ended with a Tribute to the Candy Bar!!  Layers of peanut butter and dark chocolate mousse, ganache and sea salt.  Everything edible!!

dscn7948

Always love having dinner with friends….it seemed that the evening went so fast!!  Until next time.  Talk to you later.

Note:  Eden has a full bar.  It also offers catering and has room for private parties.  And, they are sensitive to those customers with gluten allergies.  On Wednesday evenings is Steakhouse Night.  Prix Fixe Menu.  $35 for 3 courses.  Save the date of Friday, 10/12 when there will be a Jazz Wine Dinner.
