Rehoboth Beach Eats!! 208 Social, Restaurant, Bar, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Eat, Drink, Be Social, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn5654dscn5641

Social relates to or involves activities in which people spend time talking to each other.  The Beach, for many, is their happy place.  Here, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, we have a little bit of eveything for everyone.  Downtown Rehoboth Beach is only one square mile.  Pristine beaches, an award-winning boardwalk, boardwalk grub, entertainment, tax free shopping….and then there are the restaurants.   Summer 2015 brings new restaurants to Rehoboth.

dscn5636

208 Social is located at 208 2nd St. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware 19971  Tel. 302-227-6700  Website?  http://www.208social.com Find it on Facebook, as well.  Nate and Lisa are the owners.  They are creating some very unique appetizers, entrees, and desserts, giving foodies some “food for thought”.  To know more about Nate and Lisa, please visit http://www.208social.com/about.

The laissez-faire attitude of the DE Beaches is what keeps visitors coming back year after year, making fantastic unforgettable memories.  Summer 2015 promises to be a fabulous one!!

I love spending time and sharing a meal with good friends.  It is a most simple thing, and it gives me the most pleasure.  When Cindi and Madelon decided to come to Rehoboth Beach from Ocean City, Maryland, we waited for Restaurant Week.  208 Social was our destination.  And so we arrived early, so that I could take photos.

I love what they have done to the restaurant.  It opens at 4 p.m.  Come as you are and enjoy a drink at the bar, which as the night progressed, it got crowded.

dscn5634

dscn5631

208 Social has a choice of dining rooms.

dscn5638

It is so nice because the atmosphere in those rooms is quieter, conducive to friendly conversation.  We chose the porch.

dscn5637dscn5629

Appetizers:

Their Simple Salad…..greens, and a Sherry truffle vinaigrette.  The photo does not do justice…you had to close your eyes, taste, and enjoy one delicious dressing.

dscn5644

Pulled Chicken Fresh Spring Rolls….mango, watercress, peppers, cilantro, and a peanut dipping sauce.  Very interesting and healthy!!

dscn5642

Two orders of Crispy Soft Shells…a light tempura style breading, which my friends said was very good.  You could taste the delicate flavor of the soft shell.  Served on a sunchoke puree with baby spinach and toasted garlic.

dscn5646

When there are soft shell crabs on the menu I will, definitely, order them.  But Madelon and Cindi got them…..I needed something different, something savory, sweet, saucy or even tangy.

208 Sticky Ribs….These were from their Tavern Menu.  OMG, these crispy pork ribs with a Chile agrodolce (tangy), and toasted sesame were awesome.

dscn5647

Ice Cream for dessert.  This ice cream was from Pennsylvania, but pretty soon, they will be making their own, just like they make everything else.  This particular one was chocolate, and salted caramel.

dscn5649

Many thanks are given here to 208 Social for bringing us one of their strawberry pies, made to order.  Warm!!

dscn5653

So what else is left to say?  Can’t wait to go back!!

Destination? Sawgrass North, Schell Brothers Community, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn4552

I never miss an opportunity to see real estate.  I guess that went with the territory for many years…my late husband, John, was a Broker and owner of his own real estate company in Bethany Beach.  So, when my neighbor, Chris, asked me to go check Sawgrass North I jumped in her car ready to go.  Sawgrass North is located at 35546 Betsy Ross Blvd., on Old Landing Rd. in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

dscn4553

Sawgrass North is a Schell Brothers community.  It is private, gated, and just by Rehoboth Bay.    It has a clubhouse, pool, fitness, tennis and basketball courts.  And….lawn maintenance is included.

Meet Adam Pettengell….He is the Community Sales Manager at Sawgrass North.  Cel. 302-228-2719.  Website?  http://www.schellbrothers.com Email:  adam@schellbrothers.com.  His personality comes through as friendly, knowledgeable about real estate and what he is selling…and most of all a good sense of humor.  Even though I could have taken his photo on site, I decided to use the portrait of Adam in the Master Bedroom.  With that kind of personality, he can sell anything.

dscn4549dscn4546

This 3,300 sq.ft. model home was already sold,  completely decorated.  Schell Brothers has an in-house designer.

The Tour…

The house has beautiful colors.  The people that are moving to Sawgrass North are those that are completely new to the Delaware Beaches, and also those that are downsizing…so tired of the up-keep of a much larger home.  They want more time to play and less time to spend working on the home.

If you do want to do some business from home, this area is perfect!!

dscn4533

The Kitchen is very open and conducive to entertainment.

dscn4526

dscn4551

The Living Room is spacious.  Two views; from the first floor and from the loft area on the second floor.

dscn4547

dscn4545

Master Bedroom, First Floor.

dscn4524

dscn4528dscn4529

If you would like to dine indoors…love the table and the finished look.  Otherwise, outdoors on a beautiful day is the way to go.  Outdoor entertainment!!

dscn4527dscn4532

Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.  They are beautifully decorated, reminding us that we are at the beach and fresh colors set the moods.

dscn4537

dscn4538

dscn4541

dscn4536

dscn4540

Bathrooms are comfortable and laundry room has everything needed.

Stop by and say hello to Adam….he really is so nice!!

What’s Going On? Rehoboth Beach Museum, MOSAIC ARTwalk, Saturday, December 13th, Delaware Beach Life Magazine 2014 Photography Contest Winners, Exhibit, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Del_Beach_Life_exhibit_2014

“A good photo is a good photo regardless of the gear used to take it.  A person’s skill, knowledge, and eye is what will make photos worth looking at.”

I love taking photos and I used them on my posts constantly.  I am by no means a professional photographer.  I am one of those “point and shoot” ones.  Photos create memories, they tell a story and at times words are really not necessary.

Every second Saturday of the month MOSAIC, sponsors the self guided art and gallery tour from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  It is a time to visit and mingle with participating artists, get to know them up close and personal, and enjoy a culinary treat.  It is an art stroll.

MOSAIC”s mission is to promote art awareness in the Rehoboth Beach Area.  For more info. and to check the map, please visit http://www.mosaicrehoboth.com.

Our_new_mural

This coming Saturday, December 13th, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., the Rehoboth Beach Museum joins MOSAIC ARTwalk, hosting an opening reception for Delaware Beach Life Magazine 2014 Photography Contest Winners.  This is an exhibit of the winners for 2014 photo contest.  Delaware Beach Life magazine opens this photography contest annually to all amateur photographers.  The contest for 2015 will have a due date for entries of July 1, 2015.  For more info., please visit http://www.delawarebeachlife.com/photography/photography-contest.html.  Remember that the photos must capture life, here, at the Delaware coast.

The exhibit will run through February 23, 2015.  The Rehoboth Beach Museum, http://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org, is located at 511 Rehoboth Ave., right past the canal bridge, when entering Rehoboth Beach.  It is also next door to the Visitor Center. The Museum is open Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Admission is by donation.  More info?  Please call 302-227-7310.

The exhibit is small but strong.  The 13 award-winning photographs were chose from among more than 300 entries.  Their images captured the many forms of life on Coastal Delaware.  The judges referred to the contestants’ photographs as creations of vivid moments.

Terry Plowman, the Editor and Publisher of Delaware Beach Magazine stated:  “This year our entrants captured a variety of compelling views, as they skillfully combined color, composition and creativity.”

So if you live in the area, or are visiting, stop by the Rehoboth Beach Museum, to see how this popular beach resort started and how far it has come.

Have a great day…..too chilly for shopping!

Out & About, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, Week-Ends at The Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn2054

Looking out the window, I am wondering what the heck happened to the sun?  It was so gorgeous on Sunday at the beaches, that I called my neighbor and asked her if she wanted to take a walk around Rehoboth Beach.

dscn2045

Rehoboth Beach is a great town to walk. The Boardwalk is award-winning and the iconic benches line this popular boardwalk just in case you want to relax and people watch.  Sunday was one of those days that even though it was a bit cool, the beaches were packed.  Some were at the water’s edge with sweaters, some were shopping, others were just enjoying one beautiful day.  And others decided to just eat and have something to drink.

dscn2048

The Greyhounds stayed in Dewey but they also made the rounds in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  At least they had one good sunny day this week-end.

dscn2046

dscn2047

Walking through The Pines, a neighborhood, between Downtown Rehoboth Beach and Henlopen Acres, we stopped to check out 2 Open Houses.  One new construction and the other one a house that had been built in the 1940s and was still owned by the family.  We got a bird’s eye view from the top of this house, whose “upper deck” was a later addition.

dscn2049

On our walk we stopped at Anita Peghini-Raber Gallery.  It is located at 49 Baltimore Avenue.  Anita is an expressionist; she is also self-taught.  Website?  http://www.rehobothart.com.

dscn2053

What’s Happening at the gallery?

dscn2051

Oriental Dance with Viviana on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.  $10 donation at the door.

Tango de Arte takes place the last Saturday of the month.  A free class from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. From 9 p.m. dance until……late.  Please visit http://www.tangolewes.com.

dscn2052

These events are well attended and they tell me that they are so much fun!!

Hungry and late in the afternoon we decided to stop at Semra’s Mediterranean Grill.  It is located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue.  John and Semra are the owners and they are always at the restaurant.  I cannot say enough about their cuisine.  Everything is made in house. Website?  http://www.semras.com.  Tel. 302-727-5964.  Sema’s is on Facebook.  Watch for Belly Dancing Events coming up in the months to come.

You know, it is really interesting, because I can say that I can make a Mousaka, but when Mousaka is served at Semra’s it takes your palate to a different dimension.  Their spices are sent by relatives and the taste is delicate, with dishes perfectly seasoned.

dscn2055

My dish was traditional from Semra’s city in Turkey…..except I forgot if it was called Manti, Monti…hopefully she will correct me.  It was light, and Semra’s described it that way.  Ground lamb with amazing spices and with just a hint of heat, topped with tzatziki (yogurt) sauce.

dscn2057

Off we went back to our car….Lucky to live at the beach and never take it for granted.  Have a great day!!

Destination? The Coffee House, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Fresh Brewed Coffee, Baked Temptations, “Schell Swag”, Schell Brothers, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware…The Coffee House Opens Daily from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

dscn0498

To offer a cup of coffee to someone is an act of friendship.  For some…a social ritual, and for others, like me, a daily addiction.  I love a bold cup of coffee in the a.m.!!

dscn0507

The Coffee House opened at 18 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, on July 1st.  I had to go and check out this new Schell Brothers’ venture.  The first thing you have to do is look up to the ceiling….an upside down kitchen!!  If that doesn’t grab your attention, then nothing will.

dscn0486

The Coffee House will be brewing coffee 7 days a week, from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.  The Coffee House has an understated elegance, with beautiful chandeliers.

dscn0503

Plenty of comfortable seating…Wi-Fi available.

dscn0495

dscn0496

My capuccino was perfectly brewed with just the right amount of foam…..then, I met Scott and Megan.  They are at The Coffee House to make sure you are comfortable, and your questions are answered.

dscn0494

On the walls photos of Schell Brothers model homes.  Known for quality building, impeccable taste, and beautiful communities, their homes are very recognizable.  Buying a home can be very trying and with their resources they can make the home-buying experience a good one. One that you can be comfortable with.  The Gallery at The Coffee House shows what this company offers.

dscn0487

dscn0483

Besides coffee, The Coffee House offers baked goods.  All baked goods, including some gluten free ones, come from The Point, also in Rehoboth Beach.

dscn0504dscn0505

dscn0500

I was reading about branding and marketing like the “Schell Swag”…It is not about getting someone to choose you over the competition, but about “getting your prospects to see you as the only one that provides a solution to their problem”.

“A brand is the source of a promise to your customer”.  It stays within you, and it motivates the buyer, as well.

dscn0488

If you would like more information, please visit http://www.schellbrothers.com/blog.  Get into the conversation…..

As you visit Rehoboth Beach, make sure to stop by and say hello…..grab a coffee, make new friends, and remember that you are at the beach so, relax!  That’s what you came here for!

Destination? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Walking Tours, Jolly Trolley Tours, Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, Rehoboth Beach Museum, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

IMG_0266

Getting to know Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is getting even easier these days thanks to the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and the Rehoboth Beach Museum.

The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society promotes education about the history of this very popular coastal town, which is a destination for many on the east coast who want to get away from the summer heat in cities.  Rehoboth Beach is one of those towns that can call itself a year-round resort.

Sea_Witch_Magical_History_Tour

If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach and would like to know more this is what you can do….The Jolly Trolley, which is the best way to get around this busy town, has teamed up, just like they have been doing in the past, with the Rehoboth Beach Museum for guided tours of the city.  Tours begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately 50 minutes.  The Trolley Tour will start and end at the Anna Hazzard Museum located at 17 Christian Street in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.

The cost of the tour is $10, cash only, which also includes entrance to the Anna Hazzard House and the Rehoboth Beach Museum.  Reservations are required.  Please call the Museum at 302-227-7310.

Next tour will be Thursday, June 19th.  Other dates are:  August 21st, September 4th, September 18th, and Ocotober 24th of Sea Witch Weekend.  On Sea Witch Weekend they will add an extra tour at 10 a.m.

This is a fun and relaxing tour.  Visitors and locals will experience first hand pieces of the history of Rehoboth Beach such as the birth of the town as a Methodist Camp Meeting site, and its growth as a resort town.  Learn about shipwrecks, submarines, storms and sand dunes.

100_2781

The Jolly Trolley began its first runs in 1970.  It began when a group of locals wanted to have a means of transportation that would let visitors get a feel for the sights, smells and different experiences of two resort areas; Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach….the rest is history.  More info?  Visit http://www.jollytrolley.com

08

If you decide that what you would like to do is walk….then, the new Walking Tour of Rehoboth Beach might be the thing to do.  This town is very walkable.  The tour will feature a 45 minute gentle stroll around Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  It will start at the Bandstand, at the end of Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk at 9 a.m.

dscn9843

The first tour will be on Thursday, June 26th.  The cost will be $10.  Reservations are requried and you may do so by calling the Museum at 302-227-7310.

This tour will provide general information about the history of Rehoboth Beach, while touching on several of the Storms that have shaped the coastline and the beachfront in town.  Tour Guide, Jean Brolund, will lead walkers from the Bandstand north of Rehoboth Ave., point out landmarks and providing photos of historical sites and events.

Some of the topics that will be covered are the Native peoples of the area, The Methodist Camp Meetings, Hotels and Railroad service, and Horn’s Pavilion.  Future tours will cover the area south of Rehoboth Avenue.

dscn5354

Make sure you take notice, The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain constructed in 1929 and added in 1977 to the National Register of Historic Places.  My post on http://www.aboutmybeaches.com, was written on 9/12/13.  Just check it out.  This fountain is located at the end of Rehoboth Avenue, on the Boardwalk.

Wear comfortable shoes, take a bottle of water or fill up a water bottle at The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain.  There are restrooms available at the Bandstand area.

Rehoboth Beach, Boardwalk, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE Beaches, Mecca for Summer Leisure Fun, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn9844

It was built in 1873.  Through the years, it has changed.  But, one thing that never does change is the fact that from the beginning it was a place to embrace the seacoast and a “mecca” for summer leisure fun acitivites.

dscn9836

It is right in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, with the background…the Atlantic Ocean.  Plenty to eat at the Boardwalk.  You never forget the aroma of French fries, and all that Boardwalk grub.

dscn9839

The benches are iconic and were donated by the Village Improvement Association of Rehoboth Beach.  The perfect place for people watching.

dscn9845

It was gorgeous this Memorial Week-End.  One of the few when the weather participated every single day.  You never know who you are going to meet on the Boardwalk.  Casual chatting….Jody and I met Titan’s handler.  Titan was only 16 months old and in training to become a therapy dog at hospitals with patients with anxieties….Loved it!!

dscn9840

dscn9842

It does not matter if you look north or south on the Boardwalk…..the views are priceless!

dscn9847

NOTE:  Need Beach Wheels?  They are available from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Labor Day.  They are located at Maryland Ave. and The Boardwalk and Laurel Street & The Boardwalk.  They are right on the beach.  Please remember that they cannot be removed from the beach.

No rental fee; first come first serve basis.
