Let’s start with homegrown figs…my own. Over the years I have talked about my figs until blue in the face. There are years where I have had so many that it was even hard to give them away.
So, I gave a huge bowl of figs to Wally. He owns Tulip, located at 20819 Highway One (Coastal Highway) in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Tel. 302-226-2696. Website? httpo://www.tulipltd.com.
Besides working his store, Wally’s other passion is canning. Surprise surprise!!….His pickled figs this year were called Glorious Pickled Figs. And, how lucky I was to get some.
The recipe of Cornish Game Hens with Prosciutto and Pickled Figs turned out to be so easy….I did not have to do much.
I roasted the hens on a 350 degree convection oven until they were nice and crispy….about 40 minutes. These hens were fat, and all I had to do is baste them a bit with butter, paprika, and spices.
I took them out of the oven and cut them in half and draped the prosciutto over each half. Placed figs and juice all over them and placed in the middle rack of the oven. Then, the oven went on broil until the ham started to brown. It took about 10 to 15 minutes.
The flavors were amazing, salty, sweet, mild….and very juicy. Add an acorn squash, veggies and you have an elegant meal.
To Wally: Thanks so much!! And, the strawberry jam was awesome!!!

We have come a long way since the days when “soap on a rope” was just that. A bar of soap with a rope attached to it. I guess it served a purpose….bars of soap are slippery. But to tell you the truth I don’t think I have used one.
But, now there is a new look to the soap on a rope. It is very sophisticated, and glamorous. Jewelry for your bath. It comes in necklaces and bracelets, in wonderful fragrances like Garden Lily, Fraiche Flore, Summer Rose, and Freesia, among others. The packaging alone is worth it.
I found them at Tulip located at 20819 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Website? http://www.tulipltd.com. Tel. 302-226-2696. Great gift for that person that has it all and wants to add something different to their bath experience. You are to wear and enjoy them while taking a bath or shower; do not take them apart, have fun with them.
The company, Soap Baubles is from Vermont. Their trademark? “Soap Baubles Jewelry for your Bath”. To know more about them, and to see what else they have to offer, please visit http://www.soapbaubles.com.
And if those were not enough, they also have the gemstones. Beautiful works of art to be enjoyed in your bath, found right here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Talk to you later.

It goes without saying that shopping at the Delaware Beaches is part of the ritual if you are visiting Southern Delaware. Tax free shopping!! Our casual lifestyle at the beaches is fun and carefree . As I was walking in Rehoboboth Beach this week-end I had my picks.
I was thinking that adding spunk and pizzaz with accessories for ourselves or homes can either make or break the look. The rule of thumb is not to overpower. This rule is timeless. Use accessories that will work with your wardrobe or your home decor.
Remember that it is called an accessory because you want it to enhance and not overshadow.
No outfit is complete without the proper accessory.
In Downtown Rehoboth Beach on the ocean block I found Tiger Lili. This shop has clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes, and accessories….Sorry guys, not for you.
These bags were calling Summer!!
And these were the cutest sandals. And, since it is going to be in the 80s this week, they are the perfect sandal to wear out and about in town or wear them to dinner.
Nothing better than a good conversation piece or pieces when having guests for drinks or dinner. There is a new store in town called The Spice & Tea Exchange, also located on the ocean block in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. These items will get your guests talking.
The Himalayan Grater Stone is beautiful pink salt that is harvested by hand from ancient sea-beds located in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. All you have to do is put them on the table and grate the salt with a micro-planer. It comes out very fine and you don’t need that much to get great taste.
The salt blocks and platters are also going to create great conversation. These blocks and platters can be heated or cooled; put them in the oven or freezer. They can be used for food preparation and table presentation.
Mod Cottage is located at 247 A Rehoboth Avenue. This shop has great accessories for the home and plenty for gift giving, as well.
Jane & Georgie just inaugurated their new building…same spot on 419 Rehoboth Avenue. This shop has plenty of indulgences, we, women love. Tops, dresses, and the beach indispensables.
At 29819 Coastal Highway you will find Tulip. It has everything you can imagine…furniture, lamps, art…but since I am concentrating on accessories, these finds were perfect. The stone on this bracelet is Labradorite. Other stones are available.
Plenty of more shops to visit in the Nation’s Summer Capital!! Let the Summer of 2013 begin!

Tulip…My post on the first day of Spring!! Tulip is a must stop shop, located at 29819 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), in Rehoboth Beach. Tel. 302-226-2696. Website? http://www.tulipltd.com.
The colors stopped me on my tracks. Spring was here!! I did not have a post in mind, but could not help it. Tulip has the best for Spring….for kids, the home, and for ourselves.
This store is pretty big, but my concentration was on the first floor. I did not even go upstairs where gorgeous furniture, lighting, and home accessories are found.
Just look at some of the “gotta have it”…
This table had really fun stuff. The hats come in little pouches/bags.
Do you wear a shower cap? I think this one was so funny!! Empower your Shower…say that again?
For the little ones there were the his and hers robes that were truly adorable and perfect for the beach!!
From Baltimore, Maryland, Bosom Buddy Bags.
We have such a casual lifestyle, here, at the Delaware Beaches….plenty of our homes reflect that look.
New items from Mariposa.
Just recently I have met several people that are new in the area. I hope they are checking my posts because as you become a local, you, definitely want to shop local.
I don’t know about you, but lately all I hear is who is getting married next….signs of the times, I guess. Gifts for those special occasions.
The beach essentials? Lip gloss and flip flops…with a little bling. The snap on will take you from the beach to a night out on Downtown Rehoboth Beach!!
Have fun!! Talk to you later.

Another stop at Tulip, located at 20819 Highway One (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach, surprised me with newly arrived merchandise that I had not even seen a few days before when I wrote my post on this local shop. Wesite? http://www.tulipltd.com. Their Tel. is 302-226-2696. They open 7 days a week. On that day I got to meet Wally, one of the owners.
Chalkware Santas – I have never seen these before. Each piece is hand poured and individually painted, true to their heritage. They are made from antique chocolate molds. Each is signed and dated. They are collectible pieces whose value will last for generations. Only 100 of them were made.
The weather is getting a bit cooler; a sign of the season. These children’s hats are hand made, near Bethany Beach, Delaware. I have so many friends having children that I have to put these up for them.
As I was talking to Wally I noticed the “Instant Snow”. Believe me, it brought memories. I grew up in Puerto Rico and during Christmas there were ways on making your tree look like it did have snow. Well, you had to attach a bag full of “snow” to the vacuum cleaner and then spray it outside. Needless to say, it did not last long. This snow comes in a tin. It is just a small bag inside. You mix it with water and fluff it up, I think. Anyway you can use it for decorations or….Wally told me that he picks up little unique gifts for the store that are outside the box. They don’t, actually, fit in the store, but they do bring childhood memories…..that’s what his mother used to do.
On the corner I found these cute Santas……shake them and they light up like crazy!! Stucking stuffers, perhaps?
The vase and the decorated starfish just looked so pretty.
So many getting married…this could be a very nice gift.
Tulip still had ornaments and Holiday decorations that were unique and pretty; just in case you need to complete your Holiday look.
Have a good one!! Talk to you soon….you know I will.

I was totally surprised to hear that people think Tulip is a garden center. For many years I lived in the town of Bethany Beach….that’s where Tulip is from. It was in town and always was a must stop shop in Bethany. A few years ago it moved to Rehoboth Beach. The store has a much bigger locale and plenty of parking.
Tulip is located at 29819 Highway One, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-226-2696. It is family owned. Website? http://www.tulipltd.com
The store was always known for its lighting. Today, Tulip offers furniture, accessories, and gifts.
It also has a really cute corner for children, with sweaters hand knitted in Rehoboth Beach. Gifts for babies and fun things for toddlers.
The store is full of neat ideas for the holidays. I found and actually, bought, the Corkcicle. On my picture, if you look to the left of the lamp you can spot it. It freezes and then it cools your wine from the inside out.
The Dazzler is a battery operated candle. It has a LED bulb technology, it lasts about 5 hours, and runs on 2-AA batteries.
Holiday and New Year’s decorative place mats, napkins and surprises.
The glass crab ornament caught my attention.
Besides having a room dedicated to Vera Bradley, they also carry Bosom Buddy Bags.
Tulip also carries gifts for every occasion.
For the women that enjoy jewelry, a line from Florida, completely handcrafted with organic elements, nickel and lead free…also hypoallergenic.
You can find even some even on sale.
The second floor offers furniture, lighting, art and home accessories.
Now that you know that Tulip is not a garden center, by all means, stop by. They are very helpful if you are somewhat clueless on what you would like to purchase for that person that has it all.
Talk to you later. Have a good one!!
