Sunset, Twilight, Dusk, Kent Narrows, Maryland, A Relaxing Moment during a hectic time of the Year

One more trip to the airport.  Then, I found myself sitting on the enclosed balcony of one of those restaurants that I visit when I am traveling on Rt. 50 coming from or going to Baltimore.  The attraction besides the food is the location.  Water all around you; beautiful scenery.

Kent Narrows is a waterway that separates Kent Island from the Delmarva Peninsula where I live.  The area has traditionally been a location for seafood packing and restaurants.

If you are traveling that route it would be a great place to stop to relax, eat and enjoy the moment.  I did that today.

I looked at my watch and it was 4:30 p.m.  Wow, I cannot believe I am such an early bird.  I am not sure if that time of the day is considered sunset, twilight or even dusk.

A few drinks were brought to us and an order of Oysters Rockefeller and a Fried Oyster Caesar Salad hit the spot.

After sunset, there is twilight and finally dusk; it will also vary according to your latitude.

So, the following pictures reflect those 3.  And, it only took a few minutes to change from one to the others.

It was so peaceful, cozy and relaxing.  It is nice to feel that way towards the end of another year.

Seine Fishing, Clamming, Delaware Bay, A Late Afternoon, At sunset, Delaware Beaches

Out and about is where I found myself yesterday; you know errands, hair appt., delivering figs to Madelon, stopping at the Lifesaving Station, etc. etc.

It was late in the afternoon, almost at sunset and as I was approaching Dewey Beach I decided to detour and enter New Road on the Bay.  There was nobody collecting the entry fee.  This spot is part of the Delaware State Parks.

As I was taking in the view I could not help to think how lucky we are to live in this coastal area.  Open spaces, marshes, wild birds, the beach.

I watched the fisherman at the distance.  I needed to approach him.  He was seine fishing.  A seine is a large fishing net that hangs in the water by attaching weights along the bottom edge and floats along the top.  They are used to encircle schools of fish.

I was able to talk to him and watch him carry the net full of fish to his cooler.  It looked like I was stalking him but no; this was an unexpected post for my blog.

I could not believe that the cooler was almost full with Menhaden fish.  He said it only took him about 1/2 hour.  Menhaden is a silvery herring-like fish that travels in large schools.  It is considered inedible for humans but processed into oil for cosmetics and fish meal for animals, particularly poultry.

Then I spotted the clammer; his family joined him.  The Delaware Bay is so shallow in this area that they were able to really walk out far.

I loved finding that lonely chair on the bay.  The Bay was quiet, serene, still and so picturesque; then my next thought was I better go home because, “ouch”,  the “no-see-ums” are getting to me.

Talk to you later…..you know I will….

Note:  If you feel like grilling on this area, there is a barbecue grill and 2 picnic tables available to the public.

Sunset, Delmarva Peninsula, Delaware Beaches, Friends, Celebration, Oysters, Roasts, Barbecue

No, my friend, Shelley, will never be accused of not having too much food.  Yesterday’s get together in the name of Easter was no different.

It was not traditional Easter fare and definitely not a brunch.  We arrived at her farm as the stillness and beauty of the early evening descended upon us.

Barbecue on, oysters and clams steamed, cheeses and drinks and off to settle ourselves on her open porch and verandas and witness the beauty of a Delmarva sunset.  We did not need music; the frogs were serenading us with their sounds and as the skies grew darker, they got louder.

Roasts on the barbie, seasonal veggies, salads and sorbet.  Ahh…so good, and better yet, enjoyed with family and friends.
