Out & About, Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, BruLe, Bistro, Wine House, Lunch, Pineapple Grove, Delray Beach, Palm Beach County

I almost forgot to tell you about my casual lunch at BruLe, which is a bistro and a wine house in the Pineapple Grove Art District of Delray Beach.

img_5532

It was in July and Rosalyn and I had just returned from the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach, where an Exhibit called Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television was underway until 9/11/11.  It was great.

img_5429

The Norton Museum of Art is located at 1451 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33401.  Tel. 561-832-5196.  Website?  www.norton.org.

img_5428

Another Exhibit was From A to Z: 26 Great Photographs from the Norton Collection is still going on until October 16th.  That was great too.

img_5430

Also, until October 9th is Striking Impressisons:  European Prints from the Museum Collection.

And, The Art of War in East Asia will be on exhibit until November 13th.

It was hot and we were hungry.  I had not had lunch at BruLe, so, why not?  The address is 200 NE 2nd Ave. Right at City Walk in Delray.  The tel. is 561- 274-2046.  Website?  www.brulebistro.com.

In the above mentioned website you will be able to check their menus.  They open for lunch and dinner.

They had a great selection of wines being that it is also a wine house.

img_5530

We ordered 2 salads.  Rosalyn ordered the Arugula Salad with candied pecans, green apple, bleu cheese and red onion and a house vinaigrette.

img_5533

I ordered their Market Salad which had baby greens, assorted veggies and a white balsamic vinaigrette.  Then, to finish it off I topped it with grilled chicken.

img_5535

Both salads were delicious on such a hot day.

I think BruLe has a very diverse menu that will agree with most of its customers.  Can’t wait to have dinner next time.

Order at the counter, take a seat and they will bring your order to your table.

Note:  Carryout is available.  But, if you would like delivery, then call The Delray Delivery Dudes at 561-900-7060.  Visit their website, www.delraydeliverydudes.com. Their hours for delivery are:  Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m.

It just happened to me, so this post is so, how shall I say it, “apropos”?  You go away from your immediate surroundings and things just happen.  Oh, I forgot to tell you that I took a trip to Delray Beach, Florida.  My neighbor asked “not hot enough here, in Delaware, for you?”

South Florida is not, at the present time, the sunshine state.  Actually, it is pouring and so far the car did not start; AAA, here in not time and car left on a flat bed.  Computer?  Not connected to the internet, why would it?  So, that’s why it has taken so long to post.  Weather?  Hot and humid, but I did not expect it any different.

Quiet, though.  The Village by the Sea is in its Second Season; I like it that way.

I have my own “Angie’s list”.  My, AboutMyBeaches List.  Tried and true by me.  As I try new services at the Delaware Beaches, you will be the first ones to know.

Rehoboth Home Services, Junk Removal, Landscaping, Senior Services, Estate Services, Local Moves, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, One Call Does It All

Where are they when you need them?  I am talking about my kids.  They are certainly here for dinner but when is time to do some physical work, the disappearing act it’s what I usually find.

That’s o.k.  I am resourceful.  I have seen a pink and green truck up and down Rt. 1 at the Beaches.  Cute was the word that came to mind.  These “women” really have capitalized on the colors.  The sign said Junk Removal, Landscaping, Senior Services, Estate Services, Local Moves.

img_4342

I needed them.  Wanted to get rid of some stuff.  I saw the truck was on the other side of the highway.  I could not catch it.  Then, I saw a van on the other side again.  Pink and green.  I was able to get the phone from the truck.  It would have been too easy to go to the computer or call information.

I spoke to Scott Smith, the owner, and on Wednesday they came.  At 8:30 a.m. I opened the door and 3 guys dressed in pink were at my door.  Did I have too much coffee? Pink hats?  A look past them showed that my cul-de-sac had 3 big pink and green trucks.  I am sure my neighbors were having a field day.  I did not have that much stuff; they followed each other and I was the first stop of many for the day.

img_4343

Rehoboth Home Services is located here in Rehoboth Beach.  P.O. Box 13, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-344-1007.  E-mail is scott@rehobothhomeservice.com.

They are really one call does it all.  They work with realtors in the area, as well as delivering for some of the stores that are at the beaches.

Alex is also a painter and he is from Salvador.  Shawn is an electrician.

img_4344

I asked Scott what would they did with the stuff they picked up?  He said that if the unwanted items are usable and in good condition they would donate them to local non-profit organizations that have given them their wish list.  They try to match the stuff to charities that can benefit from the donation.  If they can place them they can get you a receipt for a tax deduction from Habitat for Humanity and New Life Thrift Store.

They also are prepared to help people in need; out of their homes, fire, etc. etc.

Whatever is left they will take it to the landfill for recycling.    They are not a Junk Company; they services cost less than national Junk Hauling Services.  But there is a charge, depending what you need them to do.

I am glad my husband was home.  It pays to get older; $15 off by bill.

Scott showed me that each of their trucks have “women’s” names.  Cupcakes?  That’s what mine was called.

img_4341

Rehoboth Home Services also works with banks.  Homes that are foreclosed need to be cleaned, and what a mess it could be.  Scott has even found some houses with dead animals inside.  Crazy.

They work with animal rights and rescue groups, along with Animal Care & Control departments of local governments.  They will make every effort to find kind and caring homes for all pets, including dogs, cats, fish, birds, and other animals in the household.

About the pink and green colors?  Having worked in marketing and advertising he thought the right look would make you notice.  Well, I certainly did.

img_4339

All kidding aside, Scott, Alex, and Shawn were very professional.  Give them a call; no job seems to be too big or too small.

Have a good one!!…another great day!!

Trolleys, Bethany Beach, Transportation, Best Deal in Bethany Beach, Beats the Meters!!

img_3328

Thank God I did not have to experience it.  Mayhem in Bethany Beach because residents and visitors could not find the parking meters.  Several people got tickets left and right.  Finally, after enough complaints signs were put up informing the public where to go and what to do.

Meters are so expensive at the Delaware Beaches.  In Bethany Beach all meters are $1.50 per hour in quarter increments.  A quarter gives you 10 minutes.

Garfield Parkway, which is the Main Drag, as some of us call it, and the business area, have blue meters.  Please note that these meters have a 2-hour limit on the meter.  But, the meters can be replenished.

img_3972

The rest of the meters are grey.  These ones have an 8-hour limit.

Having said all that, why don’t you just take the Bethany Beach Trolley.  It is so cheap.  $.25 each way is what you’ll pay and someone else is driving you.  The Town of Bethany Beach has 2 trolleys.

img_3970

The trolleys run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The last pick up on Atlantic and Garfield is at 9:45 p.m.

You can flag down the trolleys anywhere along the route for pick or discharge.  The only exception is that they will not do any loading or unloading on Rt. 26 and Rt. 1.  The same goes for Jefferson Bridge Rd.  These are busy roads and I can see why.

On a daily basis there will be little or no service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  These drivers need lunch and dinner breaks.

To check the Trolley Schedule all you have to do is visit www.townofbethanybeach.com and then under services scroll down to Trolley.  If you need more info., please call 302-539-8011.

If you are near any of those routes or within walking distance, my suggestion is use the Trolleys.  You won’t regret it.

Please remember that you are at the beach….kick back and relax…

J. Palmer, Inc., General Contractors, Beach House Management, LLC, Property Manager, South Florida, Palm Beach County

Different events happened in my life in 2010.  One of them was a kitchen fire in my place in Delray Beach.  We were lucky that nobody was hurt.  All of a sudden companies were knocking on our doors to ‘help us” get our place back together. I could not believe it.  It was like they were attached to a radio, following fire and flood disasters.

Fire in Coralina 1

Since my place of residence is Delaware, I do have a Property Manager in Delray Beach.  I have written about him in the past.  His name is Michael Keegan and his company is Beach House Managemenht, LLC.  It is located at 777 E. Atlantic Ave., Suite Z-307, Delray Beach, FL 33483. Tel. 561-376-4329.   Beach House Management is also one of my advertisers.  So, visit the website by just clicking on it on the right hand side of this site.  In it you will learn about the company, the services they provide, links, and other important information.

I have known Michael for years and I am not ashame to say that I could not live without him.  He has been a constant since we first purchased in Delray.  My family has certainly kept his property management services busy.  And it does not stop there.  He has also helped my children while in Delray so many times.

Having a property manager means to me peace of mind; it is not a luxury, but a necessity.  He is always there; just a phone call away.  That’s exactly what happened back on April, 2010 when there was a kitchen fire.  Michael was at our place on that moment’s notice already contacting the people that were important at that time.

fire in coralina 2

He introduced us to Dan Palmer.  He owns J. Palmer, Inc., located at 3805 Investment Lane, Riviera Beach, FL 33404.  Tel. 561-848-7114, toll free 800-824-4997.  They are General Contractors, specializing in insurance restoration and remodeling.  Also involved in general property repairs and maintenance.

Dan was incredible. The fire happened in April and I probably met Dan in late June.  But, every Monday he called us with the updates. Yes, our conversations were all handled through the telephone.   He took care of emptying the contents of our place. He had everything cleaned.  He dealt with the insurance company.  That is his specialty.  I trusted him so much that he picked my appliances, tiles, kitchen faucet and gave me directions on how to get through something like this without falling apart.  Easy, one day at a time.  He is cool, calm and collected.

The place has turned out so nice, so here are the results, after kitchen replaced, floors replaced, furniture and clothing cleaned, painting, replacing curtains (he brought the fabric samples).  It really was definitely a lot of work for Dan, but he got it done.

I even had him put a cabinet, countertop and sink in a half bath that was not part of the restoration.

287

But wait, I am not finished.  There was water damaged upstairs and another claim had to be filed and floors replaced.  He took care of it all.

If you find yourself in this type of situation, please do not hesitate to call Dan Palmer.  You have the telephone numbers.  He has been extremely professional; I cannot say enough.  I recommend his company fully, just like I recommend Beach House Management, as well.

Have a great week-end….talk to you later…..

AboutMyBeaches, Website, Blog, Advertising, Delaware Beaches, Ocean City, Maryland, Delray Beach, Florida, My Personal Attention?, You Bet!!

100_1278

I started my website on July of 2009.  I cannot believe that it has been a year and a half since I started AboutMyBeaches, written in a blog style.  I think I achieved the look I wanted for the site.  Clean, bright, easy to read and most of all, available to all.

I write pretty much every day.  I take a lot of pictures, as well.  I am not a professional, but I think you can see that in some of my posts, pictures and even recipes, since there are plenty of those too.

This is my business.  I started it always with the idea that it would become a business.  But, you needed to get to know me through my writings first.

You know that I have lived at the Delaware Beaches since 1981.  My children were born here and I truly love the area.  I have seen it grow in so many different directions; pretty much all good.

100_2321

I am promoting the Delaware Beaches, Ocean City, Maryland and also Delray Beach, Florida.  That’s another town that has become a second home to me.  I love to walk around Delray, enjoy the restaurants and the beach and I respect the devotion that its residents have towards keeping the town the jewel it has become.  All you have to do is visit this Village by the Sea and you will want to get to know it much better.

I consider myself “the word of mouth”.  It is the best advertisement.  I have written so far 530 posts.  I have experienced all those posts, as well.  I had to in order to pass the information on to you.  On average the website is getting 5,500 hits per month.  That’s between 150 to 200+ per day, depending on the subject.  Most of the writings are from the Delaware Beaches, but a lot are from Delray Beach, Ocean City and from wherever I find myself at a particular time.

It really is inexpensive.  Think about it, $500 for one year is about $1.36 per day.

I don’t take these coastal towns for granted.  It really is great living here and visiting the other beach towns that I do.  I don’t even take my AboutMyBeaches for granted either.  I have learned so much.

Pete, My Handyman

Early in the morning I see the same people walking their dogs around the circle.  Actually, some of them are just walking by themselves.  Good Morning and Another great Day!! are the comments as they walk or run by.

The majority of the dogs are pretty friendly but a few give Addy dirty looks.

Today was one of those pretty early mornings.  After the walk I came home and I looked at the clock and I knew I had to be in Fenwick Island.  It takes about 25 minutes to be there.

I had a hair appt. with Colleen.  O.k. don’t be so bored already; I am just trying to set up the story.

I was relaxing when my husband called me that Pete was waiting for me at home.  Well, I did not know he was going to be there to see if he could get my fireplace going.  He would have to come back.  Just tell him one o’clock.

Pete is the type of person that could make you insane.  Oh no, he does not just come to fix something.  He will tell you many stories about his past.  Oh yes, he had high clearance with the government, can pull his own teeth.  Hmm, that’s a good one.

Today he came in prepared to “teach” me how to fix the fireplace.  I immediately told him that I did not have any interest and was not planning on learning that task.  We are not very handy in our household; that’s why we have him.  It does not matter, he will still explain the whole process.

He told me I needed to read him the directions because they were in Spanish.  He wanted me to translate them.  I said that on the other side, they were in English.  I proceeded to read them to him.

He was lying on the floor and his physique is a little pudgy so the view from the top was not very good.

He got all excited and told me that it was all a conspiracy for all of us to spend more money.  The way the directions are written is to create confusion; then you call the company and they charge us for the service call, a lot of money, to fix something so insignificant.

Addy was barking at him the whole time and he was barking at her.  I gave him one of Addy’s treats so he could give it to her; she was hiding behind the table and he told her she was hiding like Obama.  He said Obama was going to go into hiding just like Richard Nixon did because Nixon was involved in the Kennedy assassination; it cannot be proven, though.

He still had the fireplace all taken apart.  Why is it that my husband is never here when Pete shows up?

He said he was taking a break.  Where are you going?  I asked.  Well, he was going to smoke a cigarette.  He told me he was smoking 2 packs per day and now he is down to 10 cigarettes.

Remember the handyman/painter in Murphy Brown?  He is a lot like Eldin.

It did not take him long to get back in the house.  Finally he put the fireplace together.  He said to me “if she don’t work” then it is probably the “little thingy”.  I just agreed with everything he said.

I made the mistake to ask him what he thought about the weather.  That was the wrong thing to ask.  He told me I would have to talk to New Mexico.  We better get prepared for this coming year.  Today was like a typical day back in the 60’s when it was gorgeous and then wham!, the east coast was hit with storms from January until May.

He said he predicted this year’s storms.  He also had predicted a tsunami a month ago and had gotten some “essentials”.  Needless to say, it did not happen.  Calgon, please take me away, right now.

You know what?  The truth of the matter is that Pete is a really nice guy even though he exhausts you with all this information.  You need him and he is always available.

At least this was not like the last time when he was installing my kitchen sink faucet and he kept on talking from under the sink and I was his assistant.  The view from that advantage point was never to be forgotten.

Here is a picture of Pete.  Yeap, you guessed it.  The cigarette break.

 IMG_0275

After he left, I decided to call Nicola Pizza and reward myself with my 3rd pizza of the week.  I deserved it.  That will be my next post.

Have a good evening….talk to you later….

Property Managers, Beach House Management, LLC, Delray Beach, Florida, Coastal Home Services, Bethany Beach, Delaware

Back on January 7th, 2010, I wrote a post for my blog about Property Managers.  If you would like to see it, just click on the month of January under Archives and scroll down to the date.

Once again, I would have to tell you that I feel exactly the same about Beach House Management, LLC and Coastal Home Services.  I know the owners personally and I can trust them fully with my properties.

Being, that your home is your “castle”, property managers give you peace of mind.

They are not a luxury, they are a necessity.

In Delray Beach, Florida

Michael Keegan is the owner of Beach House Management, LLC, located at 777 E. Atlantic Ave., Suite Z-307 in Delray.  Tels. 561-376-4329 and toll free 866-414-4329.  Website is http://mybeachhouses.com.  E-mail address is beachhousemgmt@aol.com.

Beach House Management is one of my Advertisers; you can see their ad on the right side of the blog and if you click on it, you will directly go into its site.

What can I say about Michael?  He is very knowledgeable, professional, prompt and courteous.  Doesn’t that say it all?  I can still go on an on about everything he has done for my properties in Delray and, actually, for my family, as well. He has arranged pick ups at the airport, has opened the doors to our place more times that I can count, white flies on the hedge? No problem, getting competitive prices for jobs, replacement of faucets, light fixtures, close and open the property, dealing with tenants, comcast, you name it, he has done it.

Needless to say, I recommend him fully.  At this time of the year when some of the “snowbirds” will be leaving the area, he would be a trustworthy person to handle your “castle”.

The Delaware Beaches are gearing up for the summer season.  By the looks of the amount of visitors already coming to our beaches, I can tell you that it is going to be a busy summer.

Coastal Home Services is located in Bethany Beach.  The address is P.O. Box 3, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.  The website is www.coastal-home-services.com and the e-mail address is info@coastal-home-services.com.

The owner of this company is Debbie Dyer.  I have known her for many years and anyone that knows her will attest to her organizational and managerial skills.

Being that she is a local, she knows the Delaware Beaches very well.  She is also an Advertiser on my blog.  You can check her website by clicking on it on the right hand of the blog.

Just like Michael Keegan of Beach House Management, she is knowledgeable, professional, prompt and courteous.  You meet her, she will give you her wide smile and you will feel like you have known her all your life.

Coastal Home Services is a full concierge service.  So, all I can say is give Debbie a call so that she can make your stay more enjoyable, and keep your “castle” the way you want it to be kept.

Talk to you later…
