In 2009 I adopted Miss Addy.  I call her my princess, best in show, the best and most beautiful dog in the world…all kinds of silly names.  Miss Addy is a mutt and a “rescue”.  I think she was about a little over a year when I adopted her.  Here is her photo.  She is a little Diva now.  She learned quickly.

img_7894

Word of mouth is everything.  So, when my friend, Renee told me about Doggies at The Beach, I thought it would be the perfect place to leave Miss Addy when I was traveling for a day or overnight.  It would give me a piece of mind.  Not everyone can or want to travel with their pooches, so be sure when I tell you that they will be well taken care of at Doggies at The Beach.

dscn2447

Doggies at The Beach is located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24) in Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-644-8200  Website?  http://www.doggiesatthebeach.com.  Doggies at The Beach is open 7 days a week.  You can leave your dog for overnight care, day care, and grooming.  Throughout the year they hold training classes and they also hold vaccination days at a discount rate.

At times, when I come in the customers make me laugh.  Here are some of the photos.

dscn8135dscn1745

There are no cages here.  What they do have are 6 separate play areas that are small, medium and large.  24-human supervision is one of the services that they are so proud of.  They play with the dogs, take them out for walks and give them a treat here or there, as well.

DoggiesatBeach-2 (1)

With 3,500 square feet they have plenty of space for all their customers to have a good time.  They will be comfortable since the location is climate controlled and with purified air.  There are 5 web cams….just in case you want to follow your pooches daily activities.  Names like Little Dippers, Moon Doggies, Big Kahunas are the names they give to the play areas which are assigned according to size.  They even have a Puppy Palace, just in case your pooch demands a suite.  The last day of your adorable pet stay, they will give him or her a bath…a scarf and they will be ready to go.

DoggiesatBeach-4

Miss Addy just spent a week at Doggies at The Beach, while I was in Charleston.  My cousin was so jealous because where she lives she does not have this type of care for her dog.  So, when I got a few texts from Doggies at The Beach sending me photos of Miss Addy….she was like….what?

Destination? Sewing Outlet, Federalsburg, Maryland, Drapery, Slipcover Fabrics, Upholstery Fabrics, Decorative Trims, Window Hardware, Supplies, Upholstery and Decorating Services, Discount Prices, Great Savings!!

dscn1896

I really do not sew…clueless.  Not planning on learning either.  But, I do know when I see savings at the end of the tunnel.  For so many years, I went to the Sewing Outlet located at 121 North Main Street, Federalsburg, Maryland 21632.  Tels.  410-754-8961 and 800-734-8961.

dscn1901

This company has been in existence since 1967, with the word OUTLET.  Outlet was not even in the horizon in Rehoboth Beach at that time.  But, at the Sewing Outlet the savings were tremendous even back in those times.  For all of you that do “outlet” shopping, I believe Ocean Outlets, in Rehoboth Beach opened in April, 1989.  They were called Ocean Outlets back then and the developer was Land Design.  The first phase opened with 90,000 sq.ft. with 30 stores, carrying brandname merchandise at discount prices.  Parking for 475 cars.  Those were the beginnings and if you have shopped at the outlets in Rehoboth you know that the expansions of the rest of the phases were incredible…also, with new owners as Tanger Outlets.

So, when my friend, Jody, told me she was looking for fabric for slipcovers for a couple of sofas and pillows, it was a no brainer to pass on to her this info.  I also volunteered to go on our expedition.  I do not think I had been to the Sewing Outlet in about 15 years or even more.  From the Delaware Beaches is takes about 45 minutes or a bit more to get there.  Going through the back roads..

dscn1902

Upon arriving at Federalsburg, it felt as if time had not changed this smalll town.  It amazes me how towns that are on the river with so much to offer just stand still.  Federalsburg is near Seaford, Denton, and Easton but the town is soooo quiet.

dscn1898

dscn1897

The Sewing Outlet opens Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Their email address is Sewout@verizon.net.  For anyoyone planning to do or have someone else do any sewing, I can tell you that this is the place to go.  It is almost a one stop shopping with commercial and business services, slipcover and upholstery fabrics, trims, hardware, pillow forms, supplies, tools, decorating services, including custom window treatments, custome bedding, and most of all;a very experienced staff.

dscn1894

The Sewing Outlet has hundreds of fabrics, including upholstery fabrics in stock.  Over 1,000 sample books for special orders, as well, with incredible savings.

Traveling, Airports, Hotels? Hampton Inn, Pizza? Pizza King, Warwick, Providence, Rhode Island

I could keep on venting, but I will not.  The flight to Providence was to have taken one hour, if that, from Philly.  Nothing ever goes smoothly when traveling, or does it?

US Airways, plane on the air…then the announcement that we would have to go back to Philly….oh don’t worry you will see fire trucks and ambulances on the ground….a window popped out.  What?  All I could think was that my connection was already gone.

To make a long story short….we got to Providence around 6:30 p.m. from a 1:50 p.m. flight.

dscn1466

Now where to stay?  I wanted something next to the airport.  Reading the reviews I saw plenty of excellent ones for the Hampton Inn, right next to the airport, in Warwick.  That the service was excellent, yada yada yada.

dscn1467

I am passing the info., just in case you are traveling this corridor.  It has been excellent, from the moment that the driver picked me up at the airport.  He has been working for this Hampton Inn for 14 years.

This Hampton Inn is located at 2100 Post Rd., Warwick, RI 02886.  Warwick is where the airport is located, as well.  Tel. 401-739-8888.

Plenty of travelers must have thought the same way.  Lots guests here. Bar and lounge available too.

dscn1470

They were so friendly.  Great services.  They can take you free of charge to so many restaurants in the area.  A welcoming snack, as well.

Breakfast in the morning.

dscn1469

The hotel is super clean, has a bar and the rooms are good size.

They bake cookies every day in house.  Perfect!!

And coffee is always served!

dscn1468

So, I really did not want to go anywhere for dinner, after my traveling experience.

Pizza!!  That’s what I wanted.  The guys here told me that Pizza King was great.  They are local, family owned and operated for 30 years.  And, they deliver to the hotel.

Pizza King is located at 1800 Post Rd., right in Warwick too.  I ordered a small one with mushrooms and a salad!!  Surprise, Surprise.

The pizza was gorgeous and well done….I did not even have to ask for that.  So good.

dscn1472

And look at the salad!!  They recommended their homemade vinaigrette!!  Really good.

dscn1473

At $13.92 plus tip….what a welcoming deal!!  Thanks!.

My blog is written mostly about my experiences….it is word of mouth.  Got to give credit when credit is due…and both, this Hampton Inn, and, Pizza King deserve to be highlighted on my post.

My destination today?  Nantucket Island

dscn1393

My friend, Cindi, and I have never met strangers.  It ended up being that the owners of Best Nest in Downtown Cape Charles were originally from the Bethany Beach and Selbyville…Delaware area.  Small world.  We arrived at the store because we wanted to say hi to someone from back home.  Best Nest is located at 7 Strawberry Street, Cape Charles, VA 23310.  Tel. 757-331-4437.  Website?  http://www.bestnest.net.  You can find them on Facebook as Best Nest Home Furnishings.

This is a fairly new location for them….but the store already looked so pretty and it felt like it had been there forever.  They open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Closed on Tuesdays.  Sundays by appointment.

dscn1387

John and Nikki are the owners and they offer many years of experience to their customers.   Their projects can be large or small, and both are very comfortable working with a variety of budgets, tastes and personalities.

dscn1388

The store offers furniture, art, accessories, linens and rugs.  At times just an accessory here or there can really define a room.

dscn1391

If you are in need of home staging, or might want to rearrange what you already have to give you a better flow, please give them a call or stop by.

dscn1389

Please visit http://www.bestnest.net if you would like to read some of the testimonials and also to see photos of many of their projects.

AboutMyBeaches Turns 5!! Events, Restaurants, Reviews, Where to Shop…and What to Cook for Dinner! Advertisers: Beach House Management, Coastal Chem-Dry, Doggies At The Beach, Alice H. Klein-TKO, Butter Shades, Bethany Area Realty…Word of Mouth

img_6850

Five years ago I was sitting at Hobos located at Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, when my husband suggested I started a website.  To tell you the truth I think he was tired of me calling him to the office to tell him I had found a better place to get corn, or that the crabs were bigger at such and such place…..and can you believe they are putting another bla bla bla store here?

I fell right into it.  But from a website it went to a website written in a blog style.  Living at the beach is great.  I never take it for granted.  And, for so many years John and I lived here at the Delaware Beaches.  He could have written the blog himself also.  I guess being residents of the “Beaches” gave us the ability to pass on the information….at times maybe too much information.

For the ones that follow my blog, there are over 43,000 photos.  5 years worth of photos.  My family is still not at ease by my taking photos of the food at restaurants.  They say that is so embarrassing.  My friends?  They are more forgiving.  They humor me and don’t dare to start eating until the photo or photos are taken.

John was my best PR person.  He always carried AboutMyBeaches cards in his wallet.  But, John passed away last August.  Yes, that’s the way life goes; not fair.  He had a very dry sense of humor and I am sure he is watching what I am writing and what I am eating.  He was the first foodie I knew.  We miss him so much.

My advertisers are great, just click on their website located on the right hand of this post.  I do know them personally.  I want to thank them by including them on this post.

Tel. 561-376-4329

COASTAL CHEM-DRY – Carpet Cleaning and Upholstery – With locations throughout the State of Delaware, you can find them in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.  I know them personally and be assured that you will get the best service from them.  Please visit the website to find out what specials they are running and to learn more about their “green” way of cleaning carpets and upholstery. DOGGIES AT THE BEACH – This is my dog’s, Addy, home away from home in Rehoboth Beach.  Cage free facility, grooming, classes and the best staff ever.  Call them at 302-644-8200.

BUTTER SHADES – Quality affordable sunglasses.  A traditional and classic look that anyone can wear.  Internet sales…just check out the website, place your order and in a few days you will get them.  Follow Butter Shades on Facebook.

BETHANY AREA REALTY, LLC – The Broker of Record for Bethany Area Realty is Ann Raskauskas.  I call her Annie.   My husband and I knew her well.  For many years she worked with my husband at Tidewater Realty.  They were best friends.  Annie, just like John did, loves to sell the lifestyle that they both enjoyed.  Annie is also involved in fundraising for charities that are close to her heart.  For rentals and sales, contact her at 302-537-9700.

What can I say…thanks to all the readers!!

I have over 11,400 page views, 1,696 posts, 2,028 comments, 7,906 tags and plenty of spam.  I post on Twitter and AboutMyBeaches has a Facebook page.  Soooo….I will be talking to you later.

dscn8168

dscn8205

All the photos on this post were taken on Saturday, February 22nd.  So as you can imagine items don’t stay long in consigment stores.  Selling your items with Delmarva Furniture Consignment is very easy.  You can do everything from the comfort of your home, just like my friend, Paula, did.  I just jumped in her truck to check it out.  So glad I did in order to pass on the info.

dscn8207dscn8203

To consign all you have to do is visit their website above mentioned, then click on “Sell Your Furniture”.  Fill out the consignment request form and attach your photos.  Sending them the photos will make the process so much easier.  At times these stores get too much of one item so they might tell you to wait until what’s in the store sells.  They will give you a 120 day consignment contract with 50/50 terms.

dscn8187dscn8188

You might choose to bring your items for their approval.  This is done by appointment only.  They can preview products on Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

dscn8180

dscn8184

All of their consignment merchandise is photographed and put on their website, therefore, allowing you to browse from the comfort of your home.  If you see something that catches your attention, just give them a call at 855-875-7292.

dscn8170

dscn8200

Paula had done it all through their website.  Upon arrival we sat with Diane.  She is so friendly and will set the initial price with your approval and input.

dscn8204

The photos show how good the furniture looks.  They accept home decor items, area rugs, pool tables, game tables, exercise equipment, antique, mid-century modern items and all should be gently used, in good shape, stain and oder free, without animal hair, rips and tears.  They also need to have all major hardware, functional parts and frames.  They will dust but they are not in the business of refinishing your items.

dscn8190

dscn8199

They do not accept cribs, lamps without shades, or water beds.

dscn8186

dscn8178

Delmarva Furniture Consingnment offers pick-up for a fee.  The fee is not paid until your merchandise is sold.  It will come out of your consingnment commission check.  This fee is not charged if your items do not sell. They can pick up one piece or a room full.  For info on their coverage map, please visit http://www.delmarvaconsignment.com.

dscn8174dscn8193

After 30 days, the item will be 15% off initial selling price, after 60 days, 40% off and after 90 days, 50% off initial selling price.  Should your items not sell during the 120 days contract, they will call and ask you to pick up your merchandise.  Items that are not picked up within 7 days will be sold at no commission or donated to charity.

dscn8206

dscn8211

For example, on my photo I am showing the cutest accent chair.  The starting price was $175 as of this week-end.  On March 22nd it will be reduced to $148.75.  On April 21st the next price reduction will be $105.00 and the last reduction on this piece will take place of May 21st with a final price of $87.50.  What a deal!!

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Lost & Found Office, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Chili Too…..Many Thanks!!

dscn1219

I guess I had to have that last hamburger before heading back home to Delaware.  I arrived at Ft. Lauderdale Airport with plenty of time, so I relaxed and kicked back at Chili’s Too at Terminal 3, just next to Air Tran.

I had taken out my Kindle when my food arrived.  I just had a plain hamburger, cheese and fries.  I finished, paid and went on to walk around for some time.  Never even thought about the Kindle.

Arriving home I was checking my bag when I suddenly realized the Kindle was not there.  In my household they said; forget it…gone!!  How could I have done that?

Two emails arrived.  They were in the computer for a few hours already.  One was from Jessica, who was the Customer Service Representative at the Lost and Found Office.  They believed they had an item that belonged to me.  To contact them at 954-359-2247.  It was late in the evening so I sent an email telling that they did have an item that belonged to me.

I also got an email from Amazon, as well.

You see, when you think there is no honesty and goodness in this world, someone does the right thing.

If this ever happen to you at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport, the Lost and Found is located in Terminal 1 of the airport on the Arrivals Level.  If they contact you by e-mail they will give you an item number.  They only hold items for 30 days.

There are a few options for retrieval:

1.  Self Pick-up.

2.  Friend/Relative Pick-up.  They will need a letter from you granting them permission to release your item to another individual other than yourself.  You can send them an e-mail to airportlf@broward.org, or fax them the information at 954-359-6290.  Use your item number as the subject.  Photo identification and the item number are required for pick up.

3. UPS:  This is what I chose.  You must arrange shipping on your own, at your expense.  The phone number for the UPS store that will go to the airport to collect the item is 954-923-9004.  UPS will require the item number in order to retrieve your item.  Keep this number because it is for the only UPS store that will go to the Ft. Lauderdale airport to pick up your item.

4.  Regular Mail:  Send them a self addressed prepaid package.  The package must be large enough for the item and a metered stamp must be used for any items weighing more than 4 ounces.  You can address the item as follows:

ATTN:  Lost & Found, 2200 SW 45 Street, Suite 101, Dania Beach, FL 33312

The Lost and Found office is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until noon.  Then, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.  They are closed on Broward County holidays.

Again, thanks so much for your consideration.  And, to Chili’s Too, my sincere thanks, as well.

Have a good one!!
