Agave, Lewes, Delaware, Mexican Restaurant, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

Back on July 27, 2009 I started my blog. I have been living in the area for so long that a lot of times people would ask me where to go, where to shop, what restaurants were the best, where to shop and what to cook for dinner.

http://www.aboutmybeaches.com

The above website became my blog. A sort of diary you may say. I write when I feel inspired and other times I just stay quiet. Not for long though lol. AboutMyBeaches is on Facebook as well.

I wrote about Agave on the same day I opened my blog. Agave has expanded but I still enjoy the location at 137 2nd St. in Historic Lewes.

It is still quaint and I hope it stays that way. Just the right amount of noise and a little Latin music in the background.

Now that the new location has opened on Coastal Highway you are able to find seating available.

At the bar we sat where you get to be in the know. Those gigantic Margaritas were being prepared more than a few times. Look at that size.

We had the average size. There is something so good about their Margaritas. People love them. And, not all Margaritas are the same.

There is a martini that it is not on their menu. You know it exists because you have been there so many times. It is an Avocado Martini. I don’t even know how to describe it. The rim is caramelized sugar; the martini is not sweet; it is smooth and does make an impact if you get my drift.

Look how gorgeous and festive it is ? We ordered their traditional guacamole and warm chips. Sorry about the blurred photo. At times you try to move too fast.

Honey Rum Beans are a favorite. And so is the Jalapeno Corn Bread.

I love the Avocado & Mango Salad, topping it with filet. All these are shareables.

Over the years Agave has been a very consistent restaurant. We have had our moments, but who wouldn’t?

TGIF enjoy the weekend. Take time to relax in this Christmas Season. Take a drive and enjoy all the holiday decorations. They are beautiful this year.

Agave, Lewes, Restaurant, Mexican Cuisine, Delaware Beaches…No Waiting Tonight!!!

dscn0241

As we sat in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, eating oysters and steamed clams….it was early in the evening.  I figured tonight would be a good night to visit Agave.  I cannot imagine they would have a line.  Everyone would be at the Rehoboth Beach Christmas Parade.  So, we took off for Lewes.  And, I was right.

dscn0247

Lewes, Delaware was quiet; a few cars parked on Second Street.  Agave is located at 1376 2nd St. in Downtown Historic Lewes.  They do not take reservations, but you can put your name down and they will call you if the line is long, which usually is.  Their tel. is 302-645-1232.  They open for lunch and dinner.  At this time of the year, they close on Monday.

Agave is a success in Lewes.  The food is always good, ample portions, and great prices.  Great drinks, as well!!

My cousin is visiting for a few days.  He needed to try the Avocado Cilantro Tequilatini.  Fresh avocados; it takes a while to make.  It is soooo smooth.  He kept saying “que rico”.

dscn0242

Kira was our server and she suggested a trio of the guacamole sampler.  One with shrimp, one with pine nuts and goat cheese and the other with pumpkin seeds.  A generous portion of the tree of them.  Very good.

dscn0243

I decided on their traditional chicken tamale.  I have had it before and if you like tamales, then, I think this one will be a winner for you.  Served with rice, black beans and corn bread.

dscn0246

My cousin ordered the Steak Chili which is always so consistently delicious.  He was too fast…no picture this time.

Doggie bags were ordered….I think it was time to go.  This post was short and to the point.

A look at Santa’s House in Lewes…what a quaint, beautiful town!!  See you!

Eating in…Lewes, Agave, Restaurant, Mexican Cuisine, Review, Delaware Beaches…2-Hour Wait?

dscn4871

Ay bendito, por favor, dejenme entrar…no puedo esperar.  A lo mejor hablando en Espanol trabajara en una proxima ocasion.

dscn4864

Agave, located at 137 2nd St., Lewes, Delaware, 19958, has been serving some of the best Mexican cuisine in Coastal Delaware.  It is not just the quality of the food, and the presentation.  Their prices are excellent, as well.  Their tel 302-645-1232.  No website, but you can find Agave on Facebook.

dscn4870

No reservations.  In the past, and before they expanded, you still had to wait a reasonable amount of time.  Locals knew at what time, or what day to go to avoid crowds.  People were really raving about the food.  Including myself.  The Chiles en Nogada are excellent, the chili is one of the best I have had, their corn roasted with queso fresco, messy but worth it.

dscn4866

At present, what I hear the most is the long waiting period; unreasonable.  I think restaurants want to be known for their good  food and not for the amout of time customers have to wait.

For the ones that are like me….there is no way I would wait for 2 hours.  It’s just not going to happen.  And, it did not.

I told my friend, Susan, to meet me at Agave on Thursday, June 7th.  Lunch would be the way to get into Agave.  We arrived right at Noon.

dscn4861

We were elated to find it empty; not for long.  But, at least, we had the pick of the table.

dscn4860

Our lunch was delicious.  Susan decided to have the Puffy Tacos.  Two Puffy Tacos stuffed with grilled Mahi-Mahi, jicama slaw, pico de gallo, and Mexican Lime Crema, with a side dish of rice and black beans.  I have had these tacos before and Susan thought they were the best she had ever eaten.

dscn4867

The tamale that I ordered was so good.  It was made in the traditional way with corn flour, chicken, green and red peppers, raisins and a mole sauce.  Since it is made with corn flour, it is gluten free.  The mole sauce is made on a container that could be contaminated with glutens, so I would just leave it out, if you have a gluten allergy.

dscn4868

The tamale came first all wrapped up in a banana leaf.  A pull of the banana leaf so that you can see the actual tamale.

 dscn4869

Because the tamale was so delicious I decided to go with my husband this week.  That trip to Agave is what prompted me to write about the long wait.  So, when they told us 2 hours, 8 of the people that were there, including us, left.

The hostess was letting people through to look here or there; a little bit chaotic.

If you give them your name and telephone, they can call you with a 5 minute notice.  Someone I know was asleep when they called her.

There must be another way to handle it.  I don’t want to be waiting for so long with my guests when they could be enjoying their Avocado Martini!!

Hasta luego.  Espero puedan resolver ese problema porque, en realidad, su comida es deliciosa.

Hablamos pronto…que lo pasen muy bien….

img_7798

There will be trick or treats, spinning, dying and just plain fun.  Check them out.

There is not date for this one.  I think it is pretty much available all the time; more so in the summer.  At present, just ask to see if they have all the ingredients.

Lewes is the home of Agave.  It is a really good Mexican Restaurant, right on 137 2nd St.  Tel. 302-645-1232.

img_7992

I was there on Tuesday and one of my fellow diners ordered an Avocado Martini.  Caramba!! I thought.  Well when it came, I thought it looked beautiful.  Apparently, the avocado is strained to get the juice then, lime, cilantro and vodka!!  I found that the taste was clean, refreshing and light.  That’s not salt on the rim; it is sugar!!

Hey….talk to you later…have a great day!!

At Cape Henlopen State Park, just relaxing and eating
