Liquid Assets, Ocean City, Maryland, Restaurant, Bar, Liquor Store, One Stop Shop and Eat

Friday the 13th…Scared? Superstition or not just don’t spill salt, like that’s something we do every day, break a mirror. Walk under a ladder…not sure if I ever do that.

One thing for sure you can do is go out to dinner. Our choice on Wednesday was Liquid Assets located on 9301 Coastal Highway in Ocean City, Maryland. This time of the year there is no traffic.

Liquid Assets opens every day. There are restaurants that serve a dot of food on your plate. I think Liquid Assets serves their customer so much food that you can pretty much split your meals. And everything is delicious. I kid you not.

Wednesday was crowded; bar seating, our favorite. Best bartenders, definitely.

My Massaged Kale Salad….wait a minute. Didn’t you know you have to massage the kale so it is nice and soft? I think I must have had the whole bag of kale. Huge. It had Bulgarian feta, roasted cauliflower, leeks, pickled shallots, crispy Serrano ham, and dressed with a lemon garlic vinaigrette. We ate it for another day and it was not soggy, so you know.

Right above my salad is the Tuna Crisps offering. #1 grade tuna, crispy wontons, wasabi cream, spicy kimchee, and seaweed salad. Great to have as an appetizer or pair it with your salad.

If you live on the Eastern Shore nothing like comfort food known as Chicken & Dumplings. Everyone has their own recipe. The one at Liquid Assets had rich veggies and cream gravy, smoked Amish air chilled chicken, slippery dumplings, yummy, and a buttermilk biscuit. Another hearty meal this time of the year.

Needless to say if you are in the area go visit. It is one of my favorites. Great atmosphere??

Have a great weekend.

Liquid Assets, Ocean City, Maryland, Bistro, Bar, Restaurant, Review, Liquor Store?, Restaurant?

One of my favorite pastimes, in case you have not realized that yet, is eating.  Not just eating, but trying new foods and restaurants that are innovative and creative.  Who wants to eat the same old boring food day in and day out?  Whether I am at the Delaware Beaches, Delray Beach, Florida, Puerto Rico, Boulder, Colorado, Baltimore, Maryland and in between I am looking for a little adventure in eating.

Yesterday, Cindi and I decided that lunch could be a nice time to catch up on what has been going on in our lives.  Better to do that while eating.

Liquid Assets has my favorite mussels.  I had a craving for them.  You have seen me try mussels lately everywhere I go.  Well, Liquid Assets mussels are the best, in my book.  I think second place would be a little Italian place in Georgetown.  But, every time I get to try them in other places my thoughts go back to the ones at Liquid Assets; just delicious!!  No comparison.

Liquid Assets is located at 9301 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD.  Tel. 410-524-7037.  Website is www.LA94.com. Make sure to visit the website to check events, recipes and to find out what’s new in the wine and liquor business.

I just saw a new Vodka called Bakon Vodka.  It is a potato vodka, which is the vodka you would need to drink if you are on a gluten free diet.  Apparently, it is smooth, and slightly sweet.  No strong burn or aftertaste.  It has a savory bacon flavor with a clean crisp finish.  Interesting.

As I entered Liquid Assets again, I had to ask myself; if I did not know any better would I think I am at a liquor store or a restaurant?  The place is unique, no doubt about it.  I have not seen one like this at the Delaware Beaches.

The first room definitely gives you the aura of the liquor store but immediately you get to notice the big bar and tables around it; sofas amidst barrels and wine bottles.

There is another dining room that will transport you to a wine cellar, maybe in your own home or in another country. This dining room is probably more conducive to quiet conversation. It has its own bar, as well.

Cindi and I got comfortable and our waitress proceeded to let us know what specials were on the menu that day.

We decided on a bruschetta for the table that was made out of peaches.  Loved it.  Had a good kick to it.

Cindi had the orzo salad with kalamata olives and chilled canteloupe soup.  I had a taste of the soup and it was very refreshing. It was definitely good.

Of course, I had the mussels and they were as good as ever.  I loved the pieces of chorizo, the broth and, of course, the bread.

A coffee to finish our meal and before we knew it, it was time to say “adios”.  Until next time.

Great getting together with friends.  What would you do without them?

Have a great day!!  Talk to you later….

Is it a Restaurant in a Liquor Store or a Liquor Store in a Restaurant? I introduce you to Liquid Assets, Ocean City, MD

On a rainy night in the Delmarva Peninsula, Debbie, Peyton, Brennan and I decided that a few rain drops were not going to stop us from having an evening where we could enjoy one of our favorite pastimes, which, you guessed it, is tasting the flavors of the different restaurants in our beach towns.  The traffic was testing our patience, but we made it and even though it was early in the evening, in Ocean City, the parking was crowded and Liquid Assets was alive.

The address for Liquid Assets is 94th St. and Coastal Highway.  Their tel. is 410-524-7037.  The web site is www.ocliquidassets.com and it is full of information, even recipes.  This restaurant is located just past the 94th street if you are coming from points north.  Once you are inside, you forget that you are, actually, right by a highway and yes, in a strip mall.

And, that is when you start asking yourself if you are in a restaurant or a liquor store.  The concept is different and I have not seen it here in the beaches.  There is a bar in the first room as you come in and there are tables and a few sofas with cocktail tables, as well.  Around the walls you will find wine bottles and other types of spirits.  We felt we were in a wine cellar.  We were seated in this big room but there were customers coming into the “liquor store/restaurant” just to buy liquor.  Our table was in the middle of the action.  There was another dining area adjacent to where we were sitting, with an additional bar and that room was more private. It even had more of a wine cellar feel.

We proceeded to order some drinks and check the menu.  I have been to this restaurant before, and have always enjoyed it and hope this time it would not be any different.  For an appetizer, we ordered Pan Roasted Mussels which had aged chorizo, shallots, garlic and ciabatta (bread).  The broth was great.  We also ordered the House Made Hummus & Tapenade.  That was delicious too.  For our entree we all ordered different things like Seared Scallops  & Mushroom Risotto, Clam Bake, Stuffed Tomatoes with Crab and Beef Skewers.  We were happy with our food and its presentation and in no time we were finished.  The waitress was very nice and not intrusive; cordial and there when we needed her.

What really made this evening special was the company.  No food will ever be good enough if the people you are sharing it with are not enjoying themselves as much as you are.  The conversation was interesting, fun and relaxing.

Soon we had to leave since the night was still young and some of our party was off to another event.  But, it won’t be long until we get together again.

Note:  Prices at Liquid Assets were good.

We did not have dessert since we were satisfied with our meal so why not include the following cake whose recipe was given by another Debbie:

Peachy Crunch Cake

2 cups flour

1 1/2 tsps. Salt

1 tsp. nutmeg

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. baking soda

1 1/4 cups oil

2 eggs

2 cups sugar

2 ripe peaches, thinly sliced

1 cup chopped nuts

1 tsp. vanilla

1/3 cup Applejack brandy

Combine dry ingredients and set aside.  Mix oil, eggs, and sugar; add flour mixture.

Add peaches, nuts, vanilla and brandy; mix with electric mixer. Batter will be stiff.  Spread in a lightly greased 10″ tube or Bundt pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 – 55 minutes
