Historic Lewes, Delaware is ready to Celebrate the 4th!!

9:00 a.m. – A long tradition still continues in Lewes when the town hosts old-fashioned games for children on Second Street beginning at 9 a.m.  Second Street, which is the Main Street in Downtown Lewes, will be closed while the games are in progress.  It will re-open once the games conclude.

 

1:30 p.m. – The Lewes Independence Day Boat Parade, cosponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the Overfalls Foundation, will wind its way down the Lewes-Rehoboth canal to Fisherman’s Wharf as part of the holiday festivities.  The parade entrants will leave from Roosevelt Inlet across from the Coast Guard Station at 1:30 p.m. and reach the judges’ reviewing stand at Fisherman’s Wharf at approx. 2:00 p.m.

All pre-registered boat entrants will be eligible for prizes that include a unique hand-carved figurine by local carver Bert Long.  The figurine will be awarded to the most creatively decorated boat.  First, Second, and Third Place Ribbons will also be awarded.  All boat entrants will receive merchandise prizes from the Overfalls Foundation.  Boats will be judged on the best use of patriotic decorations.

3:30 p.m. – Awards Ceremony on the deck of the Lightship Overfalls at 3:30 p.m.  To be eligible for the prize, the vessel must be registered prior to 10 a.m. on July 4th.  Registrations are available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center in the Fisher-Martin-House in Zwaanendael Park, at Pilottown Marina on Pilottown Rd, and the Lewes Harbour Marina Bait and Tackle at the end of Anglers Rd.  More Info?  Call 302-645-8073.

Late, unregistered, entries are invited to join the parade by arriving at the Roosevelt Inlet at 1:30 p.m., tuning a VHF ratio channel 65 and following instructions.

No charge; a Free event.  Good viewing spots line the canal on both sides and go on a first come basis.

The Infamous Lewes Doo-Dah Parade!

5:00 – 7:0-0 p.m. – Join in or simply watch the fun as the Annual Doo-Dah Parade takes to the streets of Downtown Lewes.  Jump if you want to….No registration is necessary.  No need to plan ahead, either.  Just bring your own fun spirit and kazoo, bicycle, wagon, yo-to- or hula-hoop or anything you have that is family oriented.

Parade Route:  Manila Avenue, Kings Highway, Savannah Rd., 2nd Street, Market Street, and 3rd Street.

The historic town of Lewes is going to be offering its visitors a great week-end.  It will be full of activities for everyone.  And, if you just want to kick back and relax, then do so because Lewes offers everything you could want and more; shopping, restaurants, music; it is a well-rounded town.

 

Saturday, 7/2 – Historic Lewes Farmers’ Market is from 8 a.m. until Noon.  Every Saturday morning you will find this market at the Lewes Historical Society Complex, at 2nd and Shipcarpenter Streets.  More Info?  Please visit www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.

 

Saturday, 7/2 – Sidewalk Art & Artisan Show – This is a premier show of art and artistic creations in Historic Downtown Lewes, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  The location?  The surroundings at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  Lunch is available, as well.  More Info?  Please visit www.stpeterslewes.org.

Saturday, 7/2 – At the Villages of Five Points – Live Concert with the Funsters performing from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.  Get your chair, blanket, friends, neighbors and bug spray.  You will be outdoors, sitting on the lawn of the Villages’ Community Center.  It is Free.  This event is coordinated by Make My Day & More Event Planning, LLC.  The Villages of Five Points is located at the corner of Rt. 1 and Savannah Rd.  More Info?  Please visit www.thevillagesoffivepoints.com.

Monday, 7/4 – The Infamous Lewes Doo-Dah Parade!!  Casual and fun.  Join or watch.  The Doo-Dah Parade takes off on the streets of Charming and Historic Lewes.  No registration!!  Just for fun, come as you are. 

Parade Rt:  Manila Ave., King’s Highway, Savannah Rd, 2nd Street, Market Street and 3rd Street.

 

Tuesday, 7/5 – Dolphin Watch at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  It is a family program.  Age Group?  7 and up.  Register by calling 302-645-6852.  Cost?  $2.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday, 7/5 – Hayrides at the Beach, at Cape Henlopen State Park at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.  It is a 45-50 minute trip that starts at the campground and takes participants on the ocean beach to see the wonders of Cape Henlopen.  Tickets go on sale on Tuesday in the morning at the Seaside Nature Center, inside the Park, on a first come, first served basis.  Children must be accompanied by a paying adult. $5  More infor?  Please call 302-645-6853.

 

Tuesday, 7/5 – Concert at Stango Park, on King’s Highway, behind the Lewes Library.  This is an outdoor concert series.  The Chesapeake Brass Band will be the entertainers for the evening.  These are amateurs and professionals; all volunteers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.  The band performs a varied repertoire of contemporary and traditional brass band music.

Historic Lewes is full of activities as they celebrate the 4th of July.

 

Saturday, 7/3 – St. Peter’s 44th Annual Art Show – Art that Gives.

This is a summertime highlight at the Delaware Beaches since 1966.  It draws 140 fine artists and craftspeople from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.

This event takes place in right in town, on Second St. which is the main street in Lewes.  It is open to the public and free.  Rain or shine, please attend.

Sunday, July 4th – Old Fashioned 4th of July – 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Second Street in Lewes.

9:00 a.m. – Old Fashioned Kids Games begin on Second St.

2:00 p.m. – Decorated Boat Parade on the Canal from the Inlet to the Drawbridge and return.

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. – It’s the Annual Lewes Doo-Dah Parade in town in Historic Lewes.  This is a very casual and informal parade, so if you are visiting and would like to participate just show up.
