Gelato Gal, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Coffee, Cappuccinos, Lattes, Mochas, Chai Lattes, Hot Chocolate, Review, Delaware Beaches

This is how the word of mouth started.  First Cindi called me from West Ocean City to let me know that someone that came to do work at her house had a client who had a daughter.  This daughter went to Italy to learn the whole process of gelato making.  She opened Gelato Gal in Rehoboth Beach and the other people she had told to had gone 3 times in one week.

Of course I had to check it out.  Just like when I was told about Annie’s Banannies also in Rehoboth.  I really do love ice cream, but try not to eat it too much.  You know how it is.

Anyway, gelato is not ice cream; it is a European style ice cream that has very little air whipped into it.  It is made from a lower butterfat cream than almost all super premium ice creams.

Gelato Gal is located on 20200 Costal Highway.  Telephone 302-227-1001.  Check out the website www.gelatogal.com because you will find out the “gelato’s story”.  Also in order to get your “Six-Pack” of free tastings you need to follow directions.  Gelato Gal is serving gelato, coffees, cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, chai lattes and hot chocolate 7 days a week from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.  Plenty of parking available.

I met Gelato Gal.  Her name is Amanda Randall.  After tasting gelatos in different cities she decided to perfect the process.  She learned from the best in Italy and just opened in June, here in Rehoboth Beach.

Well, how lucky I was that day.  It was so hot that I welcomed the 11 tastings I got.  Yes, can you believe?  Heaven on a spoon, just like Amanda advertises.

Amanda experiments with different flavors.  At this time of the year fresh fruit gelato is fantastic.  Of those 11 I really liked the After 5 Gelato.  This particular one had whiskey in it.  I did not know how I would like it but I certainly did a lot.  The Chocolate Hazelnut was delicious, as well.  The Smith Island Cake Gelato was excellent and by the way, Smith Island Cakes are sold at Gelato Gal.

If you like chocolate the plain chocolate was very good.  The pineapple was perfect on that steamy day.

In her freezer you will find gelato pops, as well as gelato cakes;  perfect for those unexpected guests this summer.

I decided to buy 3 of them and just have my own tasting at home.  Chocolate, Pineapple and Blueberry were my choices.  Of those 3 I liked the pineapple the best, but the chocolate was a good second and then the blueberry.

I am so glad I went because it is great to see new places opening up in our area.  I wish Amanda the best and I will definitely be back.  Good luck!!

Cupcake Couture, Sweet Boutique, Delray Beach, Florida, Custom Cakes, Gelatos, Old Fashion Candy

What is it about cupcakes?  Afterall, we have all been eating them since we were kids.  That’s it!!  It is not that they are now a little more fancy and even bigger, the idea is the same though.  The little cake with a lot of icing.

100_2487

Yes, I get it.  Cupcakes universally evoke our childhood.  They are so easy to eat.  Definitely easier than a piece of cake.  You know how busy we all are; we can really eat them as we are walking or driving from one place to another.  Just like eating a hot dog, a hamburger, or a pretzel.

I have even heard that cupcakes are replacing some wedding cakes.  I don’t know about that but you never know.

I remembered that the last time I was in Delray, a cupcake store was about to open.  On this trip I had to check it out.

It is Cupcake Couture, a Sweet Boutique and it is located at 328 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483.  Tel. 561-276-2334.  Website is www.cupcakecoutureusa.com.

The owner of Cupcake Couture is Pam Joyner, Cupcake Curator.  Her e-mail address is pam@cupcakecoutureusa.com.  Their motto?  “Life’s short…eat dessert first!”

Unfortunately, the day I stopped by she was not there yet but her employees were very gracious and answered my questions.

The store is colorful.  It appeals to young and old.  The walls are completely decorated with cupcakes and candy.  The displays are full of all that old fashion candy.

The store bakes the cupcakes in-house.  As I was talking to the ladies working the store, they were bringing them out.

100_2497

The key to a good cupcake is that it is freshly baked.

The cupcakes have names like Donatella Vanilla, Jimmy Choo-colate, Christian Louboutinilla, Cocoa Chanel, Red Valentino, Oscar de la Raspberry, Dolce & Banana, Ives Saint Lemon, Donna Karrot, and so many more.  They are all listed with their descriptions on the website.  At the present time, the website is being worked on but you can definitely get its menu.

100_2488

There is also an assortment of classic breakfast flavors that change daily.

One thing that immediately attracted my attention is that Vegan or Gluten-free cupcakes are available upon request.  Minimum is 1 dozen and please allow at least 48 hours notice.  They also have sugar free cupcakes.

Besides cupcakes this Sweet Boutique offers gelato, soft drinks and coffee.

There is plenty of seating available and even flat screen t.v.s that look like ovens in pink and green.

100_2492

The store had plenty of customers late in the day but in the evening, as I passed by again, it was definitely crowded.

Cupcake Couture could be a good place to get something for a host or hostess or anyone, for that matter.  The cupcakes will be a conversation piece.

Please note that they also offer custom cakes.  The store is also available for rent for that special party in someone’s life.  If you need more information please contact them at the above telephone number.

In Delray Beach, Florida…you will find a local Gourmet Deli & Market and a Gelato to die for….

000_0004

Over 4 years ago and by word of mouth, a friend told me about Collado’s Gourmet Market.  I have bought from them ever since. I have also seen it grow into a fullfledge market.  The address is 3416 S. Federal Highway, in Delray Beach.  Just south of Lindell Blvd.  The telephone is 561-276-1866 and the fax is 561-276-5613.

The market has an extensive menu and it is open 7 days a week.  You may order from their ready to serve gourmet display.  Just like in the picture.000_0001

Or, you can browse over a full line of fruits and vegetables.  Something worthy of mentioning is that this market ships fruits.  For more information please e-mail them at colladosgourmetm@bellsouth.net, or give them a call to the above number.000_0006

Some of the items on the menu are:

Hot and cold subs and wraps, using Boars Head Meats. Vegetables subs like grilled veggies, eggplant cutlets, sauteed spinach or fresh veggies.

Homemade Salads and specialty salads. Soups like chicken soup, matzah ball and pasta fagioli.

Deli meats by the pound and as I mentioned above they have Boars Head Meats.

An assortment of waters, teas, wine, beer and the best is always freshly squeezed orange juice.

Don’t feel like cooking or no time to cook, for that matter; guests dropping by, then you can get full lunch or dinner entrees ready to reheat later. 000_0002

One of my favorites at Collado’s is the grilled asparagus.  They have that grilled taste and they are cooked perfectly.

If you are hosting Thanksgiving and don’t have enough ovens to cook everything then order the turkey from Collado’s or order the trimmings from the market and you cook the turkey.  I have done it and it was delicious.

Collados has catering available so please contact them for more information.

At Collado’s market you will find Gelato at Collado’s.

This is a separate business but it is inside the market.  The telephone is 561-278-5555, and the e-mail address is gelatoatcollados@gmail.com.  The website is www.gelatoatcollados.com.

When I stopped there the other day, I noticed this new addition inside the market.  I had a few tastings of the mango and the vanilla and they were so good.  Definitely you could taste the mango and the vanilla, and so refreshing.  000_0003

Gerald was at the counter and he told me that the owner, whose name is Rick Consolo, makes the gelato and when mangoes are in season, he is able to make it with just picked mangoes from his own tree.

Besides the gelato they have gelato pies and cakes, fresh filled cannolis, all fruit smoothies and an espresso bar.

In case you are not familiar with gelato I would like to tell you that it is the plural for gelati.  It is Italy’s version of ice cream.  It is made with some of the same ingredients, but unlike ice cream, gelato often does not contain eggs.  Gelato has less than 55% air, resulting in a denser product.  Its history dates to the 16th century.

Note: The gelato info. was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gelato

I thought I would pass this information on, just like someone gave it to me once.  I hope it makes your life easier if you are visiting, living, boating or beaching in Delray Beach or the Boca Raton area.

Talk to you later….
