Theo’s, Eden, Restaurants, Thrasher’s, French Fries, Boardwalk Grub, Downtown, Grazing, Summer 2022, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Rehoboth Beach is ready for the Fourth of July. The Boardwalk looks great and this past week the beaches have been amazing.

This town is know for its restaurants too besides the beaches. A wide variety of restaurants for sure. From upscale to the Boardwalk Grub as I usually call it.

Last night TC and I decided to graze instead of a full dinner. Bar seating to have drinks and a few small plates. Grazing is a way of eating that involves consuming multiple meals throughout the day. You know how it is, animals graze, stop and continue eating.?

Our first stop was the bar at Theo’s located at 44 Baltimore Ave. First time there. It was crowded but usually you can find a couple of seats at the bar.

Tuna Tartare for me with avocado, green tomato and wonton crisps. Delicious?

The Edamame were great…salty and with added spices.

Our next stop was Eden located at 23 Baltimore Ave. This is one of my favorites and knew already what we were going to order. Bar seating again. Plenty of customers inside and outside. Thought this was interesting ?

The French 75 was ordered but with Courvoisier instead of Gin. And their Grilled Caesar Salad which is the best in town. That tapenade is awesome.

Down to the Boardwalk we went for our last stop to Thrasher’s. These French Fries are loved by many and even though I usually complain because they are not crispy enough well, well, last night they were and I had my share.

Salt and vinegar are a must.

To a bench we went to enjoy and people watch.

Remember AboutMyBeaches is on Facebook and Instagram. Enjoy your time at the beach.

“Oh starry night, with moonlit sky, take me away, and tell me why….”  It was a true beautiful night in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and while many were celebrating St. Patty’s Day, we were enjoying some sweet ending at Eden.  Arriving fashionably late; just for dessert….plenty of photo ops.

Salads!! The Lighter Side, Delicious Salads, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware…I just want a Salad!!

I just want a salad!!  That’s all I want!  Many times this is what we say at a restaurant, referring to having a lighter meal.  Actually, some salads can pack those calories without us even knowing it.  At this time of the year, after Thanksgiving, and looking forward to Christmas and New Year’s….I really only want a salad; the lighter side.

I have a friend….her name starts with S.  When she goes to a restaurant she really deconstructs a salad.  Take this out, no, I don’t want that either, don’t like olives, onion? not sure, the dressing….nothing with mayo….really why doesn’t she ask for lettuce?

In the past months these salads at the Delaware Beaches have been so good, refreshing.  No more boring greens, or just a slice of tomato.  These salads make a meal.  Check them out!

AGAVE – Located in Lewes, Delaware at 137 2nd St., 302-645-1232, Agave offers a few salads.  The Mango and Avocado Salad with Queso Crema is substantial, full of avocado and mango and you can get it plain and simple or top it with shrimp or something else offered on that day.

dscn1419

dscn1767

Served in a tostada bowl, this salad topped with salmon is also a winner.

dscn1766

THE PICKLED PIG – 18756 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), Rehoboth Beach, Tel. 302-645-5444.  Website?  http://www.pickledpigpub.com.  This gastro pub has spirits, pretty good food and salads.  Their Roasted Vegetable Salad I would say is fairly new but I think it is a keeper.  Asparagus, zucchini, red onion, tomatoes, carrots, spinach, quinoa, with a white balsamic-orange vinaigrette and parmesan….topped with grilled chicken, it is a complete meal.

dscn1453

Their Chopped BLT Salad has mixed lettuces, blue cheese dressing, smoked bacon, diced tomato, red onion and blue cheese crumble.

dscn1441

FINS ALE & RAW BAR – 19269 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-227-3467.  I thought this salad looked good and tasted even better.  The Chopped Salad has romaine lettuce, mixed greens, carrots, tomatoes, bacon, corn cucumber, Jack and cheddar cheeses….all chopped and served with their buttermilk dressing.  I topped it with Calamari.

dscn1769

Their Fins Bar Salad wih mixed greens, almonds, dried cranberries and gorgonzola cheese topped with tuna salad and their homemade whole grain mustard vinaigrette was delicious….nice serving of tuna salad, by the way.

dscn1768

CASA DILEO NORTH – Located at 18701 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-644-8256.  The Tricolore Signature Salad hit the spot.  Arugula, Radicchio, Belgian Endive, Treviso and spring mix.  To that mix chopped cucumber, tomatoes, and pine nuts.  It is hand tossed with lemon juice, plenty of fresh garlic and olive oil.

dscn1845

PETE’S CHEESESTEAK SHOP – It is located at 19287 Miller Rd. Unit 1A, in The Food Lion Shopping Center on Coastal Highway, RT 1.  Tel. 302-226-3000.  Website?  http://www.ultimatecheesesteak.com.  This restaurant is impeccable…so clean.  Fast service, and comfortable seating arrangements.  Their Greek Salad topped withy Gyro Meat is very good.  It is a garden salad with feta, Kalamata olives, and pita bread with a side order of a vinaigrette with a hint of strawberry…just a hint.  The pita bread is grilled and warm making it extra special and definitely a full meal.

dscn2004

EDEN – Located on 23 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Eden is really one of my favorite restaurants in Rehoboth.  Consistently good with professional staff, it stands out.  Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m.  Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website?  http://www.edenrestaurant.com Eden’s Grilled Caesar is awesome.  Sun dried tomato/olive tapenade and pecorino romano cheese.  The first time I had a grilled Caesar, it was many years ago at a restaurant in Hagerstown, Maryland.  I never had any other good one anywhere else until Eden’s Grilled Caesar and it has become a favorite.  Two views of this simple and delicious salad follow:

100_4476

100_4475

LILY THAI – Located at 10 N. 1st St. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Tel. 302-227-3348….I love Thai Food!!  The Larb Gai Salad is spicy!!  It is so good.  Ground chicken breast tossed in lime juice, red onions and fresh mint….a gluten free salad!!

100_0494

MODERN MIXTURE – Located at 62A Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-0600.  Website? http://www.modern-mixture.com.  All salads are chopped at Modern Mixture.  Their House Salad has romaine, onion, tomato, and fresh cactus called “Nopalito”, feta and lime juice topped with avocado….this salad is gluten free!

dscn8862

DOGFISH HEAD – Located at 320 Rehoboth Avenue.  Website?  http://www.dogfish.com In a mood for a Cobb Salad?  Their version, topped with salmon or a crabcake is very good….but their basil vinaigrette dressing is a true keeper of this salad.

dscn2497

dscn4009

LOBSTER SHANTY – Located a few miles west of Fenwick Island.  Address:  37310 Lighthouse Rd., Selbyville.  Tel. 302-436-2305.  It opens Thursday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.  Great views of the marsh.  A fantastic salad called the Seafood Tasters Duo has fresh lobster and shrimp salads over field greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and seasonal fruits with Nantucket’s Maple Vinaigrette.  An awesome salad if you like seafood.

So as you are shopping and exhausting yourselves….a little salad!!  Have a good one.

Dining in Rehoboth Beach, Eden, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches…The combination of presentation, creativity and taste is what sets Eden apart!!

dscn7933

I must have looked like I did not know where I was going, as I checked Eden’s menu.  Two couples said “there are no bad restaurants in Rehoboth Beach”.  I turned around and answered “I know, I live here”.  With that the conversation continued as to what restaurant they should go to on Sunday evening.  I told them that my choice was Eden.  I quickly told them a bit about the restaurant and I also told them about other restaurants in the area.  Then I said “read my post on AboutMyBeaches”.

In the meantime, my friends arrived.  We were looking forward to this dinner.  I mean it when I say that Eden has never failed me.  The combination of presentation, creativity and taste really does set them apart.  It is quiet inside, with just the right music on the background.  Tables and booths are the choices of seating.

dscn7936

Eden is located at 23 Baltimore Avenue, in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website? http://www.edenrestaurant.com.  The restaurant also has outdoor dining.  On summer nights or balmy fall evenings, it is a nice place to have dinner.

dscn7932

Danielle was going to be taking care of us.  She was so attentive and so professional.  Her suggestions were perfect.  I wanted to try something different and she guided me to dishes that contained amazing flavors.

When reviewing a restaurant, it can be said that we eat with our eyes at first; a beautiful presentation starts the process.  Eden offers that and so much more.  You don’t want it to end.

So, on Sunday night this was our experience.

Only 2 of us wanted appetizers, and we both ordered the same thing.  Truffled parsnip and Mushroom Salad – Spinach, Toasted Hazelnuts, Ricotta Salata.  Danielle told us how the salad was wrapped and how the flavors with the toasted hazelnuts were going to be so different and good.  She was right!

dscn7941

An entree of Wasabi/Sesame Crusted #1 Ahi Tuna, with sticky rice, seaweed salad, wasabi, and soy sauce.  This tuna will melt in your mouth.

dscn7943

Another entree that was very well received was the Grilled Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope, toasted Farro, heirloom carrots, Fifer white peaches, brussel sprouts, blueberry/black cardamon savory demi.

dscn7944

An order of grilled artichokes hearts for the table…tasty.

dscn7945

The Pan Roasted Salmon was beautiful and got good reviews, as well.  It had a lima and white bean saute, crispy rutabaga, maitake mushrooms, creamy butternut squash puree, and mizuna pesto.

dscn7942

I loved my entree.  I really did.  It was Braised Pork Ragu, with caramelized pearl onions, roasted apples, wild mushroom confit, rosemary fazzoletti and nutmeg/ricotta foam.  Lots of different flavors in this dish.  A fazzoletti is a pasta handkerchief; they are delicate.

dscn7946

Our dinner ended with a Tribute to the Candy Bar!!  Layers of peanut butter and dark chocolate mousse, ganache and sea salt.  Everything edible!!

dscn7948

Always love having dinner with friends….it seemed that the evening went so fast!!  Until next time.  Talk to you later.

Note:  Eden has a full bar.  It also offers catering and has room for private parties.  And, they are sensitive to those customers with gluten allergies.  On Wednesday evenings is Steakhouse Night.  Prix Fixe Menu.  $35 for 3 courses.  Save the date of Friday, 10/12 when there will be a Jazz Wine Dinner.

Eden, Rehoboth Beach, Restaurant, Review, 2011 Season, Delaware Beaches

Not such luck.  My friends thought that Sunday was a day of rest.  No pictures.  Just let me start my appetizer and dinner without the warning:  Don’t Touch Anything Yet.

That’s why they are such good friends, including my husband.  Our choice for Sunday was Eden.  Located right on trendy Baltimore Ave.  Address:  23 Baltimore Ave., Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website?  www.edenrestaurant.com.

100_4465

By the way we were celebrating a birthday, as well.

This is my second time at Eden on this 2011 Season.  The beaches are getting crowded and parking can be testing, at times.  All that is worth it.  Eden is top notch.

In case you like to sit outdoors, there are also a few tables available in front of the restaurant.

As you enter Eden, the bar is on the left.  Then, individual tables are available, as well as booths.  The restaurant is very well appointed and if the atmosphere they were trying to achieve was romantic, classic with an elegant understatement, then they definitely attained it.

100_4467

100_4469

Evan introduced himself and I decided to go with his suggestions.  I will have to tell you that we complimented him on how well he took care of us.  This is his first season at Eden.  If you make a reservation ask for him.  He was really great.

Appetizers:  We decided on the Main Lobster/Local Crab Tower.  It had a mango salsa and avocado puree.  It was a signature appetizer and the presentation and combination of the lobster, avocado and mango was very good.

img_5118

My husband ordered the Citrus Cured Ahi Tuna.  It had pickled fennel and carrots and a caper pesto.  He said it was delicious.

img_5119

I love a grilled Caesar and Eden has a very good one with sun dried tomato/olive tapenade, pecorino romano, classic dressing.  I cut it all up and mixed it.  Really really good. Great flavor.

img_5122

My husband requested for his dinner the Herb Roasted Filet Mignon.  It had a celeriac/potato, gruyere gratin, asparagus, sun choke puree, vidalia onion compote, blueberry/red wine/chocolate reduction.  Tender, and rare like he likes it.  Could not stop raving about the gratin made out of celeriac, potato and gruyere.

img_5123

The rest of us ordered the same thing.  Evan told us that if we ordered the tuna we would be in for the best tasting tuna we would ever eat.  Boy, was he right!!  It was a wasabi/sesame crusted #1 Ahi Tuna.  It  came with sticky rice, seaweed salad, wasabi and soy sauce.  Black and sesame seeds encrusted the tuna.  You had to eat it rare, of course.  It melted in your mouth.  That’s all I need to say.

img_5124

Two sweet endings!! It was a birthday celebration.

Nothing like a Classic Creme Brulee with housemade biscotti.  Traditional, that’s how I like it; forget those other fancy flavors.  Lightly caramelized, as well. The biscotti?  Perfectly baked; a welcomed softness.

img_5125

The featured dessert was the Panna Cotta.  Pretty much a custard, as well.  It’s origin?  Northern Italian.  Also eaten all over the country.  It is made by simmering together cream, milk and sugar, then mixing gelatin in and letting it cool until set. Ours was topped with fresh fruit and cream.

img_5126

Eden opens at 6 for dinner and reservations are recommended.

I love Sunday evenings….never did when I was younger…I like them even better when I share the meal with friends; light conversation and lots of laughs.  Pretty nice, isn’t it?  How lucky!

Rehoboth Beach, Restaurants, Downtown, Specials, Off Season Specials, Delaware Beaches, What’s Going On?

100_0839

Rehoboth Beach is one of those coastal towns located in Delaware that is known for its good restaurants.  Even though I have lived here for many years, there are still some that I have not visited.

A year ago I started my blog and during this past year I have reviewed some of the downtown restaurants.  Once I have reviewed a restaurant or business I send them an e-mail.  My reviews are, of course, my personal opinion.  I think the restaurants appreciate comments; how the customer has been treated from the moment he or she steps into their establishment.

With that said, I am now getting e-mails with the fall offerings and specials.  The following list, is by no means complete.  I am getting there and I will keep passing on the information as I get it or find it.

I remember last year when my friend, Debbie, the one that is my partner in crime, told me that her best dinner had been at Eden.  I had never been to Eden.  I don’t know why because they have been there for more than a few years.

Monday was the perfect evening to try it out.  There were 4 of us and it was a beautiful evening.  Not crowded, it was the last day of the holiday week-end.

Eden is located at 23 Baltimore Ave.  This is a very trendy street in Rehoboth Beach with lots of shops and restaurants.  The tel. is 302-227-3330.  The website is www.edenrestaurant.com and they open for dinner at 6:00 p.m.

I love the way the restaurant is decorated; open and comfortable with several choices for seating.  Tables or booths; I chose the booth.  There is a full bar with available seating, as well.

Eden’s motto?  “Bold American Food”.  Well, let’s see.

Jack was our waiter and he was excellent.  I took all his suggestions.

Wine was ordered and Pellegrino water, as well.  I like sparkling water.

For the table the appetizers ordered were the Maine Lobster/Local Crab Tower, mango salad, avocado puree and the Grilled Caesar Salad with a classic dressing sun dried tomato/kalamata olive tapenade.

Both delicious.  The bold dish was the Grilled Caesar Salad it really had a great taste; the dressing was excellent, perfectly seasoned.

I told Jack that both were good but the Salad was the best of both appetizers.

The pan seared scallops “paella” chorizo rice, mussels, grilled artichokes, olives and pea shoots got rave reviews.  Excellent taste.

Another dish was the herb roasted filet mignon, creamed spinach, ravioli, roasted grapes, braised walnuts, capers, red wine sauce.  Very good and perfectly cooked.

100_4479

The Crispy Scottish Salmon, browned butter whipped potatoes, bacon/sweet corn “chowder” seemed to satisfy him.

100_4480

I had the Veal Chop and because I was talking so much I forgot to write what was my side dish.  I think it had a been mash gratin and I remember thinking how good it was at the time.  Sorry, I cannot recall; that’s what too much eating does to you.  The Veal Chop was very moist and very big.

100_4478

We almost did not get any dessert for the table but I am glad that Jack talked us into it.  It was so pretty.  It is called the Tribute to the Candy Bar!! Layered peanut crunch, dark chocolate and peanut butter mousses, ganache, and sea salt. Definitely, for the chocolate lover.  Light, believe it or not; so smooth.

So, what can I say but that Eden has those qualities that make up a good restaurant: Quality of ingredients, culinary competence, service and ambiance.

Ingredients should be the best money can buy, a seasoned chef, service attentive; not intrusive, always anticipating what the customer needs.  The ambiance; tranquil and relaxing.

Of course, the company makes up the rest of the evening.  As usual there is nothing better than sharing a meal with friends.

Talk to you later….
