It is one of those autumn days when the sun is shining, the humidity is low, not a cloud in the sky….Rehoboth Beach looks gorgeous and ready for what looks like a full week-end ahead.

If you happen to see a lot of Greyhounds walking in groups is because they are also here at the beaches.  Most of them are staying in Dewey Beach celebrating Greyhounds Reach the Beach.

Doggies at the Beach is located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway in Rehoboth Beach.  This road is also known at Rt. 24.  It is a 2,400 square foot indoor, cage free facility.  Overnight care, day care, grooming, instruction, and always a human on site.   Website?  http://www.doggiesatthebeach.com.

This is where I leave my dog Addy.  I cannot tell you enough about this facility.  Ever since I got Addy this is the only place where I have taken her.  Having been abandoned and in cages for many months, this is like her second home.

You know when they say “they are dog people”, well, they definitely are.  They are caring, friendly and fun too, by the way.  Very involved in the community, trying to make a difference; helping the rescue organizations that help abandoned animals.

Right at Doggies at the Beach there area food barrells for the following rescue organizations:  Dog and Cat food needed.  All donations are welcomed.

Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary – A no kill sanctuary.  Please check their website at www.safehavensanctuary.com.   You can find them on Facebook, as well.

Georgetown SPCA – It is a shelter in Georgetown, Delaware, our State of Delaware County Seat and only about 30 minutes from the Beach.  Websited?  You can find them on Facebook as Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA.

Saturday, 9/10 – Tomorrow!! It is Discount vaccination Vet Day from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.  First come, first served.

Nicole, our own Delaware Dog Whisperer is holding puppy and doggie training classes, as I write this post.  Call for schedule and more info.

Note:  Rescuing Addy has been so rewarding.  She has added so much to our family.  At present, she is making sure the workers in my house are doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Doggies at the Beach, Striper Bites Bistro, Fish On, What’s Going On?, 1/4/11 – 1/8/11

I took a drive to Rehoboth Avenue yesterday just to see how the town looked after all the holiday festivities are now a thing of the past.  The Avenue had plenty of cars parked on both sides of the street.  I guess not everyone had gone home or started school.

Then, I got out of the car to check the beach and the boardwalk.  I was, practically, the only person there.  Granted, it was 2:30 p.m. and 36 degrees; not windy, though, but still cold, nevertheless.   North or south; empty.

The sight of the empty beach and the boardwalk made me realize that it is now definitely winter; a much slower pace at the beaches.  Don’t get me wrong; I love it this way.  A time to recharge and enjoy the area in a most unique way.

A lot of restaurants, bakeries, cafes are still open; but some have closed this week-end for a much deserved rest.  They will be open soon; in a couple of months.

And then the scenes will be the ones that give reason to come to our beaches; the boardwalk, the fries, pizza and best of all the unobstructed Delaware beaches.

In the meantime there are a few things that might be of interest to you this week:

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is located in Rehoboth Beach.  It offers something for everyone all year round; film events, youth events, the independent film festival, and so many more.  Check their website www.rehobothfilm.com for all information pertaining to the Society.

Their event called Around the World is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, the Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway.  This series features critically, acclaimed, award-winning international independent films.  It takes place at 7:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month from September through May, in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway on Rt. 1.  For more info. call 302-645-9095.

Wednesday, January 5th – Jaffa – 7:00 p.m. at Movies at Midway – In the heart of the Israel city of Jaffa, Reuven’s garage is a family run business.  The garage workers consist of Reuven’s daughter, Mali, his aggressive and distant son Meir, as well as the young Palestinian man, Toufik.  No one suspects that Mali and Toufik have been in love for years, and that Mali is pregnant with Toufik’s child.  As the two lovers secretly make their wedding arrangements, tension steadily builds between Toufic and Meir, who openly voices his disdain and prejudices about Arabs.  As these relationships continue to intensify, emotions begin to boil, resulting in an astonishing conclusion.

This film is not rated and running time is 105 minutes.  It is also in Hebrew with English subtitles, French and Kurdish with English subtitles.

Wednesday, January 5th – Fundraising event for the Rehoboth Beach Film Society at Striper’s Bites Bistro, located at 107 Savannah Rd., Lewes.  I wrote about this very popular restaurant on November 5th and if you would like to see it just click on the month of November, 2010 and scroll down to the date.
