At 3 p.m. is the Best Costumed Dog Contest Parade – I still love the name Sea Witch Monsters. The costumes are so funny….our pets humor us…and the handlers are pretty funny, as well. The parade starts at the north end of the Boardwalk.

Okay, I agree…no fun if you are at the beach and it is raining cats and dogs….the kids are driving you insane….and why did we choose this week? It happens at times, so you will have to make the best of it. And, please, do not go back to your rental agent and start complaining…..it’s raining, and it is only the weather’s fault.

At the beach, life is different; some might even say we take our time doing things here in, Slower Lower….time does not move from hour to hour, but one mood to the moment. Friday, 2/22 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents a showcase of this year’s Academy Award contenders for the Best Live Action Short Film. You will have the opportunity to weigh in and cast your own vote for the winner. This year’s slate of nominees include “Asad”, “Buzkashi Boys”, “Curfew”, “Death of a Shadow (Dood van een Schaduw)”, and “Henry”. Saturday, 2/23 – In the past few years I have had very good friends diagnosed with breast cancer. Thank God they are all doing well after going through treatments, very courageously, I might add. Southern Lights of Life is an Evening of Living and Giving, sponsored by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware. From Rehoboth Beach, it takes about 1/2 hour. Dress code is Business to Glamorous. Cocktails at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and Silent Auction. The program, dinner and the Live Auction will start at 8 p.m., followed by the fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors as the models. Tickets are $150. Saturday, 2/23 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents an informative documentary entitled “Cafeteria Man” as part of their 2012-2013 “On Screen/In Person” film tour, which brings filmmakers and their films together to participating communities. It will take place at 7 p.m. in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway, located on Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. This engaging profile tells the true story of a rebellious, charismatic chef from New Orleans, Tony Geraci, and his mission to radically reform Baltimore’s public school food system by replacing pre-plated, processed food with locally grown freshly prepared meals. Geraci’s recipe for change takes him, and the audience, from Baltimore to the halls of Congress and the While House. This film was first screened at the 2011 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival.

I stopped by to get a couple of cupcakes. Easy dessert for tonight’s Christmas Eve dinner. I even got a couple of gluten free ones, as well.
The bread is $5 per loaf.
The dinner rolls are $3.50 per 1/2 dozen or 60 cents each.
The Christmas Stollen is a fruit cake, traditionally a German cake. It is $15.
I love macaroons and they do remind me of my grandmother. Cake Break’s macaroons are gluten free!!

I arrived at Downtown Rehoboth Beach about 7 a.m. on Sunday. The fog was pretty thick. The town was pretty quiet. The Rehoboth Beach marathon runners must have been exhausted after such a busy Saturday.
Cake Break was open, as usual. Debbie, Bill and their staff are on the go 24/7. How they do it? I really don’t know. On Saturday, they were at Cake Break at 4 a.m. in order to get ready for the runners.

This is a nut free facility. So if you have an allergy to peanuts, you don’t have to worry. They offer gluten free and vegan baked goods. And, they have good news….visit the website above mentioned and you will notice that you can buy gluten free and vegan breads, cupcakes and muffins online.
It is the Holiday Season and Debbie showed me the Holiday Gingerbread House. You can order it just like you see it, here on the photo, or just order one house. Whatever you want, they can do it. Just give them a call.
Another Holiday Season favorites are the Pull Apart Cakes made out of cupcakes. Coming out of the kitchen were the Christmas and the Nutcracker. They also have yule logs and stollens.
I thought the mini bites looked great and perfect for a party. Just pick them up and pop them in your mouth.
Fresh Jewish Apple Cakes with 2 layers of apples were just baked.
Giant chocolate ship cookies…..I resisted.
Biscotti…Chocolate, Bailey’s & Chocolate & Fruit.
Croissants: Butter, Raspberry Cream Cheese, Blueberry Cream Cheese, and Chocolate.
The Rum Raising Bread Pudding was still so warm.
And, the sticky buns were too tempting…still, I resisted.
I have had the Gluten Free & Vegan Blueberry Muffin and I can tell you that it is very good. Moist and just the right amount of sweetness.
After chatting with Debbie and Bill, it was time to go home with my chocolate gluten free cupcakes with cream cheese icing.
Cake Break cupcakes are dense and a great treat. You just have to try them and see for yourself.

I joined my fellow Crawlers, Jody and Jade, as we helped raise funds for the local charities of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The Rehoboth Beach Cocoa Crawler was celebrating its second year and for the looks of it….I think people were loving and enjoying every minute of it.
There was a definite chill in Rehoboth Beach. We needed to get our wristbands. They were only $10. The proceeds going to the charities.
The welcoming committee was Maggio Shields Real Estate. They were in charge of selling the bands. They were a happy bunch.
From the Maggio Cafe, at First Street Station, and next to Maggio Shields Real Estate, we were offered tomato bisque. It was warm and delicious.
Grotto Pizza was also part of the welcoming committee…an institution in Rehoboth Beach.
The sun was beginning to set quickly…it is that time of the year. So pretty and crisp. Rehoboth Beach was crowded and hardly any parking available.
Jody, Jade and I decided to stop for dinner at Lily Thai on North 1st St.
They had the Pad Thai, which was very good
I had the Crispy Eggplant in a Chili Sauce with Shrimp…delicious. I do love this dish.
Now that our energies were recharged, we continued to crawl. Our next stop was going to be a shop on Baltimore Avenue that has been there for about 30 years. Crysti. There is a post in the making, but, in the meantime, meet Joyce and Crysti.
The best local restaurants were inside participating stores. At Crysti, Dog Fish Head was serving…beer, of course. But, check the dessert they had available; the bacon chocolate cheesecake. It is available at the restaurant in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.
Outside people were chatting and having a great time. Drinks on hand everyone was crawling through the streets.
By this time, another fellow crawler, joined our group. He is right there on the picture with Jade. His name? Michael from Stephan & Co. Salon & Spa. Jade also works at the salon. I have to write a post on them soon.
Our next stop was Browseabout Books, where we found Cake Break. They were serving mini cupcakes. Perfect because they just popped in your mouth. Not too much guilt, either. Cake Break can now ship gluten free cupcakes and other gluten free baked goods.
Crawling away, we continued….and we found only one dog doing his crawling while wearing his sweater.
We continue on a crawling mode and stopped to see a sign that rain, shine or hurricane…it is always there, reminding us that salt water taffy is still so good.
At Carltons on Rehoboth Avenue we found Lupo di Mare.
They were serving “pot de creme”.
Crawling back to First Street Station, we noticed that there were still people shopping at the Penny Lane Mall.
At First Street Station, Paul Cullen was entertaining the crowds and serving his wines. A future post in the making.
 
And, then, the crawlers gathered. There was going to be a drawing. You had to be there to win. Well, we did not win, but Danielle did. That was the end of a perfect evening, spending it with friends. Priceless, don’t you think?
So, it was time to go home….a total success it was….

I had received a tip that I needed to look for Miss Piggy at Cake Break. Say no more, that’s were I went on one of those hot summer days in Rehoboth Beach. There is something about cupcakes. They evoke childhood memories. One serving and you don’t really need to share with anyone. It is all yours to enjoy.

I am so glad to see Cake Break so successful. Debbie, her husband, and her staff, including her 2 professional bakers, are working so hard and it is, definitely, paying off. I have written in the past several posts. If you want to see them, just put the name on the Search on this website.
It was in the afternoon when I arrived at Cake Break. I saw Miss Piggy. Renee, who is a friend, and always on the lookout for interesting foods, told me about it. So here it is. Meet Miss Piggy. This simple looking cupcake is packed with flavor. Those contrasting flavors of salt and sweetness make this one awesome cupcake!!
I sat down to eat it as Debbie’s husband explained what it consisted of. It is a brown sugar yellow cake with a swirl of brown sugar inside. A drizzle of caramel with butter cream and bacon. A total winner!!
That’s all I was going there for and as I was getting ready to leave the Canoli cupcakes made themselves present. Devil’s food or yellow? Decisions, decisions.
Please note that even though Cake Break is a gourmet cupcake company they do offer all kinds of homemade baked goods. They open very early and stay open late, as well. Their coffee is delicious. I have tried it; bold and hot.

They are busy with weddings. They offer wedding cupcakes, birthday cakes and special orders. Just call them or stop by to meet with Debbie.
