Drift, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Review, Bar, Delaware Beaches, Showstoppers, Just One Dish

2023 is almost half gone. Waiting for Summer 2023 at the Delaware Beaches.

I love it when I visit local restaurants that are favorites, as well as new ones, including in my travels and what comes to mind is: I can’t wait to come back. That’s when I know the restaurant is good.

I opened this blog called AboutMyBeaches in 2009 knowing that I would not please everyone with my food choices. You know how it is. We have all different likes and dislikes.

Just One Dish….Showcasing a dish; a starter, entree, dessert, or drink. That one that caught my attention since the beginning of 2023.

The restaurant is Drift, located at 42 1/2 Baltimore Ave. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE.

http://www.driftrb.com

This starter has caught my attention on several visits. It is called New Jersey Fluke Crudo. Crudo means raw. Avocado crema, daikon radish, blood orange ponzu, red thai chili, fennel pollen, and green onion. It is a simple dish, has amazing fresh taste, and great presentation.

Drift changes their menu all the time but if you see this little gem I suggest you try it. Delicious?

Peruccis, Classic, Italian Restaurant, Millville, Delaware, Review, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

Love checking out restaurants on a Wednesday. They are less crowded and so we did driving over towards Bethany Beach and going west to the new location of Perucci’s. 35715 Atlantic Ave., Millville, Delaware.

Perucci’s moved to this location almost a year ago. The former location was so quaint; not sure how this new one would be.

The restaurant is in the back building of this address. You can park there or in the front and walk back.

You should make reservations by calling 302-829-8727. They are also on Facebook. Website? http://Peruccis.com

Pleasantly surprised as we came in. It is warm and welcoming. To the left they have a nice size bar.

We like to eat late and arriving at Perucci’s this is how it looked.

And this other photo is a little later on?

Drinks followed. A simple dressed salad I had. It was so fresh with a Vinaigrette Dressing.

The eggplant parmigiana arrived. The eggplant was slightly breaded. Very good and a healthy portion too.

The Brussels sprouts were cooked the way I like them; soft and tender.

I really like Piccata and this time was the Veal Piccata. Capers, lemon, you know how it is. Enjoyed it?

A very nice evening enjoying our local restaurants once again.

Soup, Cozy Winter White Bean Soup, Recipe, Healthy, Vegan, Cold and Rainy Day, Comfort Food, Southern Delaware, Rehoboth Beach,Delaware Beaches

Every month I get a magazine, not one I had requested. In it they always put a recipe. To tell you the truth they all look pretty good.

What a rainy afternoon we had in Southern Delaware yesterday. The latest recipe in that magazine was Cozy Winter White Bean Soup. The recipe comes The Yoga Plate: Bring Your Practice into the Kitchen with 108 Simple & Nourishing Vegan Recipes.

The recipe has simple ingredients and it is very easy to make.

COZY WINTER WHITE BEAN SOUP

2 tbsp. olive oil

1 medium onion diced, about 1 cup

2 stalks celery, diced

3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced

2 cans white beans, drained and rinsed

2 medium potatoes, diced, about 2 cups

2 large carrots, diced

1 tbsp. Finely chopped parsley

1 tsp. Himalayan pink salt (use what you have)

6 cups vegetable broth (I used low salt and then adjust)

1 cup water

salt and pepper to taste

In a large soup pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic and cook until the vegetables are tender.

Add the beans, potatoes, carrots, parsley, salt, 6 cups of broth, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for about 1 hour. If necessary, add more water and salt and pepper to taste.

How easy is that? Serve it and enjoy??

Liquid Assets, Ocean City, Maryland, Restaurant, Bar, Liquor Store, One Stop Shop and Eat

Friday the 13th…Scared? Superstition or not just don’t spill salt, like that’s something we do every day, break a mirror. Walk under a ladder…not sure if I ever do that.

One thing for sure you can do is go out to dinner. Our choice on Wednesday was Liquid Assets located on 9301 Coastal Highway in Ocean City, Maryland. This time of the year there is no traffic.

http://La94.com

Liquid Assets opens every day. There are restaurants that serve a dot of food on your plate. I think Liquid Assets serves their customer so much food that you can pretty much split your meals. And everything is delicious. I kid you not.

Wednesday was crowded; bar seating, our favorite. Best bartenders, definitely.

My Massaged Kale Salad….wait a minute. Didn’t you know you have to massage the kale so it is nice and soft? I think I must have had the whole bag of kale. Huge. It had Bulgarian feta, roasted cauliflower, leeks, pickled shallots, crispy Serrano ham, and dressed with a lemon garlic vinaigrette. We ate it for another day and it was not soggy, so you know.

Right above my salad is the Tuna Crisps offering. #1 grade tuna, crispy wontons, wasabi cream, spicy kimchee, and seaweed salad. Great to have as an appetizer or pair it with your salad.

If you live on the Eastern Shore nothing like comfort food known as Chicken & Dumplings. Everyone has their own recipe. The one at Liquid Assets had rich veggies and cream gravy, smoked Amish air chilled chicken, slippery dumplings, yummy, and a buttermilk biscuit. Another hearty meal this time of the year.

Needless to say if you are in the area go visit. It is one of my favorites. Great atmosphere??

Have a great weekend.

Libation Room, Speakeasy, Summer House, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Rehoboth Beach ends 2022 with the opening of the Libation Room, a Speakeasy. No way, really? Get out of here some will say. How fun is that?

Let me backtrack to the years of 1920-1933. Prohibition in the United States had establishments selling illegal alcoholic beverages. Shhhh…keep your voice down. Let’s not alert anyone. These were called Speakeasies .

The Libation Room is located inside the iconic restaurant the Summer House. New ownership but the reputation of a place for good food and fun times in Rehoboth Beach continues.

Location: 228 Rehoboth Ave., 302-493-3364 http://Summerhouserehoboth.com

Reservations for dining at the Summer House are not accepted. But, for The Libation Room they are accepted and I do recommend them.

You may go through the main entrance on Rehoboth Ave. or make it more fun by going through the one on Christian Street, parallel to Rehoboth Ave. Then, cross the alley and the sign above will be there. No knocking necessary ? but you will walk right into the room.

Nowadays legal bars have modeled their establishments on historical speakeasies.

Soft lighting, comfortable seatings; almost too comfortable. This was Friday, December 30th.
The Libation Room…first impression I do love. Lounge atmosphere conducive to conversation.

The Libation Room offers a full menu from the Summer House plus they have a tapas menu along with crafty cocktails.

A surprise was that when the menu is opened it lights up. You will be able to perfectly see their offerings.

Drinks were ordered including my new go to vodka called Rocktown from Rock Town Distillery, gluten free and not sold everywhere but it is here in Delaware.

The food was very good and we started with a Seafood Bisque, which had a nice consistency and not shy on lobster.

My Spinach Salad was particularly good as well.

The Mushroom Ravioli was delicious and hopefully they will keep the dish on the menu.

I love a good pork chop. I want a juicy one, pink in the middle. While the taste was delicious I found it a little dry to my liking.

The Libation Room opens Thursday through Monday 5 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Check them out. Fun place to visit while in Rehoboth Beach.

Happy New Year. AboutMyBeaches is on Facebook and Instagram.

The Feast of the Seven Fishes, Christmas Tradition, The Room at Cedar Grove, Lewes, Delaware, Paul Cullen, Delaware Beaches

Many traditions during the Holidays and a favorite is visiting Longwood Gardens. It gets you in the Christmas Spirit.

I am originally from Puerto Rico and they celebrate Christmas and Three Kings Day. Typical foods like roasting pig and blood sausages. Hey, I know what you are thinking but let me tell you they are good.

One tradition that I had heard was The Feast of the Seven Fishes. I have never attended such a feast. In Italian it is called Festa dei Sette Pesci. It is held in many Italian/American households prior to Christmas Eve.

Our local celebrity, Paul Cullen, was celebrating The Feast of the Seven Fishes at The Room at Cedar Grove located at 32882 Cedar Grove Rd., Lewes, DE. This event venue owned by Paul holds concerts, dinners, and a market. Check him on all Social Media. Or http://Www.paulcullen.rocks

Look at our table. So much fun. Bonnie, Paul’s wife, at the head of the table while Paul, Nina and the rest helped with our feast. Great way to meet new people, that’s a given.

And what did we all have in common? A love for food. All were foodies, passionate for interesting offerings. We were ready ?

The starter was Baccola or Cod. Deliciously salty.

All dishes were accompanied by a wine that would complement our food.

Our second dish was baked clams.

Our third dish was fish.

Our fourth dish was pasta with shrimp. This pasta was excellent, so much so I forgot to take a photo. This photo was taken by Minnie Waters Shorter.

Our fifth dish was scallops over creamy polenta. very good, as well.

Our 6 dish was the meatballs or I should say fishballs. Paul said it was his traditional meatball recipe made with fish instead.

Our last dish was a chocolate mousse with a dessert wine as Paul serenaded us with a private concert.

It was a lively bunch at dinner. No loss for conversation. Laughter, stories of travels, the foods we love.

Food serves as a way for people to come together. That’s exactly what we did at Paul’s Kitchen & Cullen-ary Company.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year.

One Coastal, Fenwick Island, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Good Food, Will Travel, Southern Delaware

Love visiting restaurants on a Wednesday, here at the Delaware Beaches. A little quieter. Even though we are now in our second season, Southern Delaware Beaches are year round resorts. Long gone are the days when sidewalks were rolled up at the end of Labor Day.

My motto is Good Food, Will Travel. Our beach towns are close to one another so in my view it is no big deal to have dinner in any given town.

Our pick this week was One Coastal, 101 Coastal Highway, Suite 6, Fenwick Island, Delaware. 302-537-4790. You can make reservations through the website and check their menu by visiting:

http://www.onecoastal.com

We sat at a cozy table for two and Ryan was our server. Jess, the Manager came to greet us and I told her I was looking for that delicious pork chop they used to offer. I really did not need to read the menu. I knew exactly what I wanted. But first things first.

I ordered a Tito’s and soda with a twist. Ryan told me they did not have Tito’s but they did have Rocktown Vodka. Made also out of potatoes before Tito’s popularity. Made in Arkansas. That drink was awesome which then I proceeded to check their website http://www.rocktowndistillery.com

Started with their Beet Salad…Baywater Farms Golden Beets and Gooseberries. Candied pumpkin seeds, blue cheese and the maple vinaigrette dressing were all perfectly synchronized?

Although it has been warm at our beaches this is Chicken and Dumplings Season. Those slippery dumplings are so delicious. Look at that photo. Their wheat dumplings were very well received and the pickled onion for a surprise flavorful addition. Love the photo.

All I can say is that 2 or 3 people could have shared my Sorghum Glazed Heritage Breed Pork Chop. I almost for forgot to take the photo as the expectation increased. Bacon braised Earl View collard Greens, Bay Water sweet potato puree, Lions Mane mushrooms, which are full of nutrients, and green peppercorn au poivre. Cooked as per the chef’s suggestion of medium rare.

It looked so good and tasted even better. A new twist to their old pork chop.

The desserts looked great but we were taking doggie bags home. Maybe next time.

Jess, the Manager, told me the outdoor seating will be looking great for next season.

I very much enjoyed talking to her. Hi Jess??

Egg, Restaurant, Breakfast, Lunch, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Review

The right to vote. Voting on election day I do by tradition and having breakfast with my neighbor after voting was the thing to do.

Our choice was Egg, located at 510 Rehoboth Ave., right before the roundabout. 302-227-3447.

http://www.eggrehoboth.com

This summer there was always a line but in the middle of the week is not bad.

An easy breakfast. Not to be missed if you like bacon is their Sriracha Bacon Candy. It is glazed and it tastes delicious. A staple at Egg.

We shared the Frittata that came with home fries and fruit.

It all hit the spot. Great service??

This is a holiday weekend so this breakfast spot would be perfect ?
