Doggies At The Beach, Doggie Day Care, Boarding, Grooming, Training, Cage Free Facility, 24 Hour Human Supervision, Dog Days of Summer, June 26th, Event, Delaware Beaches

I knew Doggies at the Beach was the place for Addy, when I picked her up after her first trial stay and they said:  “Addy just had a cannoli.”

I have mentioned before that Addy is my “rescue”.  After many years of not owning a dog I decided it was time.  Dogs give so much back.  I wanted her to have her “forever” home.  I cannot imagine what experiences she must have had.  I consider her a survivor.

After researching local rescue organizations, I decided to go to a meet and greet held by Paws of Tomorrow, located in Ocean View, Delaware.  Ocean View is west of Bethany Beach.  They do not have a physical address to see the dogs; they are fostered and brought to different events.  You can visit www.pawsoftomorrow.com.

Addy became part of my family.  Her breed?  Well, lots in there from Beagle to …..

The next thing I needed to find out was a boarding facility. I wanted to be able to leave her where she would be safe and well cared for.  Renee, who has 2 dogs told me about Doggies at the Beach.  It is a cage free facility and that was so important.  Also worth mentioning is that the dogs have 24 hour human supervision.  After Addy had been moved around and in different cages, I did not want her to be in a cage again.  I owed her that much.

A Cage Free Facility

A Cage Free Facility

Another important feature of Doggies at the Beach is that you can follow your dog’s activities on the computer.  Yes, they do have a camera.

So, after 2 years of using Doggies at th Beach exclusively I can totally recommend them.  They are located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 (Route 24).  Tel. 302-644-8200.  Website?  www.doggiesatthebeach.com.  You can also find them on Facebook.

Visit the website to check what is needed in the event that you would like to be a part of Doggies at the Beach.

I first took Addy for a temperament evaluation.  What?  This angel?  She passed.  Thank God.  It is a free cage environment. There is a reason for the evaluation.

Your dog needs to have all its shots up-to-date.  A copy to be sent to Doggies at the Beach.

Besides being a boarding facility, Doggies at the Beach offers full grooming services.

At present, they have just started Training Classes.  The trainer is Nicole.  Excellent training credentials.

Rehoboth Home Services, Junk Removal, Landscaping, Senior Services, Estate Services, Local Moves, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, One Call Does It All

Where are they when you need them?  I am talking about my kids.  They are certainly here for dinner but when is time to do some physical work, the disappearing act it’s what I usually find.

That’s o.k.  I am resourceful.  I have seen a pink and green truck up and down Rt. 1 at the Beaches.  Cute was the word that came to mind.  These “women” really have capitalized on the colors.  The sign said Junk Removal, Landscaping, Senior Services, Estate Services, Local Moves.

img_4342

I needed them.  Wanted to get rid of some stuff.  I saw the truck was on the other side of the highway.  I could not catch it.  Then, I saw a van on the other side again.  Pink and green.  I was able to get the phone from the truck.  It would have been too easy to go to the computer or call information.

I spoke to Scott Smith, the owner, and on Wednesday they came.  At 8:30 a.m. I opened the door and 3 guys dressed in pink were at my door.  Did I have too much coffee? Pink hats?  A look past them showed that my cul-de-sac had 3 big pink and green trucks.  I am sure my neighbors were having a field day.  I did not have that much stuff; they followed each other and I was the first stop of many for the day.

img_4343

Rehoboth Home Services is located here in Rehoboth Beach.  P.O. Box 13, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-344-1007.  E-mail is scott@rehobothhomeservice.com.

They are really one call does it all.  They work with realtors in the area, as well as delivering for some of the stores that are at the beaches.

Alex is also a painter and he is from Salvador.  Shawn is an electrician.

img_4344

I asked Scott what would they did with the stuff they picked up?  He said that if the unwanted items are usable and in good condition they would donate them to local non-profit organizations that have given them their wish list.  They try to match the stuff to charities that can benefit from the donation.  If they can place them they can get you a receipt for a tax deduction from Habitat for Humanity and New Life Thrift Store.

They also are prepared to help people in need; out of their homes, fire, etc. etc.

Whatever is left they will take it to the landfill for recycling.    They are not a Junk Company; they services cost less than national Junk Hauling Services.  But there is a charge, depending what you need them to do.

I am glad my husband was home.  It pays to get older; $15 off by bill.

Scott showed me that each of their trucks have “women’s” names.  Cupcakes?  That’s what mine was called.

img_4341

Rehoboth Home Services also works with banks.  Homes that are foreclosed need to be cleaned, and what a mess it could be.  Scott has even found some houses with dead animals inside.  Crazy.

They work with animal rights and rescue groups, along with Animal Care & Control departments of local governments.  They will make every effort to find kind and caring homes for all pets, including dogs, cats, fish, birds, and other animals in the household.

About the pink and green colors?  Having worked in marketing and advertising he thought the right look would make you notice.  Well, I certainly did.

img_4339

All kidding aside, Scott, Alex, and Shawn were very professional.  Give them a call; no job seems to be too big or too small.

Have a good one!!…another great day!!

Historic, St. Martin’s Church, Architectural Gem, Showell, Maryland, Open House, Saturday, June 4th, The Worcester County Garden Club, Worcester County, MD

Simple Colonial lines, a National Historic Landmark, the oldest of the 11 Worcester County Museums, standing since 1756.  And, now this unique church has been “restored for the new millenium.”

img_4006

If you live in the Eastern Shore, this museum is around the corner from you.  Granted, you might have to drive a little bit but I will tell that is so worth it.  The preservations continues; that never stops.  St. Martin’s Church will be holding another open house on Saturday, June 4th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  This will be the beginning of open houses on Saturdays so everyone can get a chance to discover it and appreciate it.  Tours are available, as well.

St. Martin’s Church is located at Rt. 113 & 589 Junction.  4 miles north of Berlin, Maryland.  Website:  www.historicstmartinschurch.org.  Tel. 410-430-2142.  E-mail historicstmartin@aol.com.   You can also visit Worcester County Museums at www.octhebeach.com/museum.

The Open House on Saturday is sponsored by the St. Martin’s Church Foundation with volunteers from Sinepuxtent Questers, Worcester County Garden Club and other community volunteers acting as docents.

I wrote a post with pictures on St. Martin’s on May 9th.  All you have to do is click on the month of May 2011 and scroll down to the 9th.

I visited St. Martin’s Church during the last open house celebrating International Museum Day.  It was so nice to see the people come in with a true interest for this church that sits by itself on this major corridor called Rt. 113.

img_4004

Mrs. Sherrie Beckstead is at the helm of the St. Martin’s Church Foundation.  St. Martin’s graciously accepts donations; all tax deductible.

A key pendant, a replica of the key to the doors of St. Martin’s, will be available in 18 karat gold or sterling silver as a keepsake.  I believe a charm is in the works, as well.

A commemorative plate of St. Martin’s Church is also available.

img_3996

If you are interested, please call 410-430-2142.  Eventually, you will be able to purchase keepsakes through their website, as well.

On my last visit I noticed that the windows and the Church were dressed so appropriately, with beautiful greenery.

I found out that it has been the work of The Worcester County Garden Club.  This club is busy.

The Worcester County Garden Club was formed in September, 1959.  It then became part of the Maryland Federated Garden Clubs, Inc.  It also became a member of the National Garden Clubs.

It is a non-profit organization that provides volunteers to work with the community in promoting conservation, environmental and beautification projects.

Current projects are:  Decorating at St. Martin’s Historic Church for special tours, seed planting and tree planting with area school children, maintaining a garden at the Genesar Historic Marker in Berlin, Maryland, maintaining a butterly garden at the Snow Hill Elementary School, planting with senior citizens at various nursing homes and assisted living facilities, placing flags and wreaths at the Hurlock Veteran’s Cemetery, assisting at the Ocean Pines Veterans War Memorial in Flag protocol for students and various ceremony activities.

In addition to the inside and outside gardening projects, they also do floral design workshops and are having a Standard Flower Show on September 16th and 17th, which is open to the public at the Ocean Pines Library.

On Monday, June 6th this Garden Club will be holding its annual scholarship fundraiser at 11 a.m. at the Calvin B. Taylor Museum in Berlin, Maryland.  Rain Date is Tuesday, 6/7.

This fundraising event is a sale and auction of plants and other garden related items.

Lunch will be served; reservations are needed.  Open to the public and it is free to attend.  Call Joan Vetare for reservations and more info. at 410-641-1305.

I told you they are one busy club.  New members are welcomed.  If you have an interest please call Mary Lou Scott at 410-208-6558, or e-mail her at mlgsguru@aol.com.

Catch 54, Fenwick Island, Delaware Beaches, Restaurant, Review, Amazing Views, an Excellent Dinner, What Else Would You Ask For?

It was almost 10 p.m. when we left Catch 54 in Fenwick Island.  I could not believe that it was still 73 degrees.  It was a very hot day but as the sun slowly started setting the evening was just right.  I wanted to see if the food at Catch 54 was as good as its view.  So, road trip to Fenwick.  Just about 25 minutes away from Rehoboth Beach.

It was also the perfect evening because everyone that was at the beaches this week-end had gone home, therefore, the restaurants were going to be more settled on a night like tonight.  I was right.  It was quieter and just so nice.

img_3983

Catch 54 is located at 54 Madison Ave., Fenwick Island, DE 19944.  It is right on Rt. 54, where Shark’s Cove Marina is also located.  If you head west from Rt. 1, in Fenwick Island, then you will go over the bridge and you will see the restaurant to your right.  Make the next right and you are just about there.  Website? http://www.catch54.com.  Tel. 302-436-8600.  You will find Catch 54 on Facebook.

Catch 54 is part of the family of restaurants owned by SoDel Concepts;  yes, Matt Haley is the owner.

The restaurant has plenty of parking.  They open Mondays through Thursdays at 5:00 p.m.  Fridays through Sundays at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and at 4:00 p.m. for dinner.  Every day there is happy hour from 3 until 6 p.m.  Catch 54 does not take reservations.

This restaurant is one of the few, at the Delaware Beaches, if not the only one with views anywhere you sit.  On the first floor you will find a Tiki Bar.  You can eat there, as well.  The bar completely opens up so that you can really enjoy the outdoors.

img_4316

img_4317

img_3992

Upstairs, which is the main dining area, there is a good size bar.  The dining tables are set up so that you can also experience the views throughout.   These marshes and inland bays are just spectacular.  And, at sunset, they are priceless.

img_4336

img_4321

img_4332

img_4323

I got a little worried when I noticed that my camera was flashing.  That meant I had a low battery.  I decided not to take a picture of the steamed clams.  They had herbs, a Tabasco Butter Broth and Lemon.  They were delicious.  My Caesar Salad was very good, as well.  I ordered it because it had the white anchovies.  I see those on a menu and I die for them. Many years ago I first had them in Spain and totally fell in love with them.

As you know, we always have to check if an entree contains gluten.  Caitlyn was our server and immediately she told us which items on the menu were gluten free.  It was good to see that the restaurant was catering to those with food allergies and that it had trained their staff so well.

Caitlyn was knowledgeable, friendly, and discreet.  She let us chat but was also very attentive.

We ordered the Hot Bacon Crab Dip, with Jack Cheese and homemade Kettle Chips.  The chips were so crispy and warm.  The combination of the bacon, crab and cheese was perfect. Not too salty either, which was nice.  This dish is enough for 4 people.

img_4328

Then, my husband ordered the Seared Day Boat Scallops with mashed potatoes, creamed corn and tomato chili oil.  The picture does not lie.  It was that good. I took a bite.

img_4329

My entree was a Fisherman Stew.  Fresh caught fin fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, mussels, celery, garlic butter, herbs, tomato broth, Old Bay, Lemon and toast.  The first thing I wanted to do was dip the bread in the broth.  But, I had the willpower and did not do it.  Instead, I ordered a spoon and ate all the seafood with plenty of  “gusto”.

img_4333

I have not visited all the SoDel Concept restaurants, but the ones that I have had the chance to experience have been very generous with the portions.

But wait.  I am not finished.  It is a bit challenging to find a gluten free dessert on a menu.  Yes, you can get fruit but, you know…give me a dessert, please.  I noticed that there was a flourless cake.  Well, say no more.  We ordered it.  I had seen recipes for that type of cake but I have never made one.  It was a true chocolate taste.  If you like chocolate, believe me, this is your dessert. The berry swirl and the whipped cream were the perfect companions.

img_4335

The Sous-Chef, Ronnie, came to the table to see how we had liked everything.  We thanked him for the food and for being on top of the gluten allergy.  He said that they try to accommodate everyone.  We enjoyed our dinner so much.  It was such a peaceful atmosphere with a hint of music on the background.

Talk to you later….the merging of the views and the food to give you such delight…
