Even though the town of Dewey Beach is known for its way of life; restaurants, bars, music, and water sports, I will have to tell you that if you are staying here, with your family, the town offers all of you a lot of activities that are family friendly.  For example…..

Monday, 8/2 – It’s Monday Night Movies On the Beach – At 8:30 p.m.  Monday’s feature will be Over the Hedge.

A group of feisty forest critters awaken following the winter freeze to discover that not only has a neighborhood cropped up during the cold months, but living in close proximity to humans may have its benefits in this computer-animated comedy-adventure, for all ages.  It features the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes, Avril Lavigne, Eugene Levy and William Shatner.

Wednesday, 8/4 – Family Bonfires on the Beach every Wednesday.  Roast marshmallows, dance and play to family friendly music, from 7:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Sticks and marshmallos are provided but food and non-alcoholic beverages are for sale.

Get some glowsticks for your kids; a lot of children have them and have a great time with them once it gets dark.

Location:  On the Beach (near the Dagsworthy Street entrance.)

John Waples Memorial Playground – This is a modern playground located one block off the bay on the corner of McKinley St. and Hayden Rd.

Special areas for 2 – 5 year olds and 6 – 12 year olds are available.

Sunset Park – It is a tiny Park at the end of Dagsworthy St. on the Bay.  Kids love looking at the ospreys, which make this area their home.  It is a sandy beach with shallow water, perfect for catching sight of terrapins, crabs and minnows.

Next to Sunset Park is Venus on the Half Shell, located on Dagsworthy St., right on the Bay.  I have visited this restaurant about 4 times this summer.  I really enjoy its setting.  The food and service has been very good, as well.

Last Thursday I went again and there is one particular dish that has been ordered every time.  It is Rock Shrimp and Langostino sauteed with smoked tomatoes tossed in a light chive cream sauce.  This dish is usually served over noodles but because of the person’s gluten allergy, it is modified and served over rice.  Once again this dish was ordered and even though it tasted o.k. it really was not the same.  The langostino was missing and the portion when you compared it to the ones on previous visits well, was small.  The other dishes ordered were delicious.  The service was o.k., as well.  I think the waiter could have been more attentive.  Well, restaurants can have those kinds of nights too.
