Shopping!! C’est La Vie of Charleston, Boutique, Historic Charleston, South Carolina, Home Goods, Gifts, Accessories, Furniture, Art…A Must Stop Shop in Charleston

I am not sure if you are ready for shopping or not, but stores are open.  Historic Charleston offers great shopping for everyone.  If your husband decides that shopping is not his cup of tea on this trip, there are a few places you can park him.

dscn3750

Or if you are traveling with your pooch….have your husband or significant other take him to the dog park and meet other Charleston dogs, while you engage in something a little more interesting.

dscn3727

C’est La Vie of Charleston we found on 108 N. Market St.  Tel. 843-212-5744.  The owner opened the store last year and is ready for the prime months that Historic Charleston offers its visitors.  Good weather, plenty of restaurants, history, shopping….the town, I hear is starting to bloom.  You can find C’est La Vie of Charleston on Facebook.  Check it out because you can get 10% off purchases until 3/17.

dscn3677dscn3671

The shopkeepers of Historic Charleston deserve a shout; so friendly!!….Shopping in local boutiques is what I usually like to do.  Individual attention is what we want.  No rush, please.

dscn3667

The store is eclectic in the sense that you can find gifts for someone special, or just something to thank a friend.  Having a party?  Cards, napkins, place cards, cups for an event, or just because.

dscn3668

dscn3670

We fell in love with these beads.  They are called Chew Beads.  They are perfect for the summer.  We just did not realize that they are also chewing beads for your little ones.  Mothers, grandmothers you can be in style with these ones.

dscn3666dscn4081

It’s springtime and time to refresh, or update.

dscn3674dscn3673

If you think about it all boutiques are shops, but not all shops are boutiques.  C’est La Vie of Charleston is unique and local!!  Stop by and say hello.

Have a good one.

Shopping!! Lori & Lulu, Charleston, South Carolina, Women’s Apparel, Sandals, Accessories, A Post for Women Only

dscn3805

You know, I cannot understand how I have been shopping all my life, and still have nothing to wear!

If my posts this week are from Charleston, South Carolina, is because I was there for a whole week.  So much to learn about this Historic City.  Southern Living Magazine’s March issue says that there is no better time than to be in Charleston at this time of the year.  I was just a little too early.  Nothing in bloom and a little cold.  They told us that the best months are March, April, May and October.  Nevertheless, my cousin and I managed to take advantage of our time….including stopping at some of the shops.

dscn3814dscn3810

I am ready for summer weather.  Living in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, our style is very Relaxed and Coastal Chic.  And, so we found Lori & Lulu located at 231 King Street in Charleston.  King St. is known as the Fashion District of Charleston, but plenty of other streets offer shops and galleries that appeal to every visitor.

dscn3801dscn3811

Charleston, Amelia Island and Raleigh, that’s where you can find Lori & Lulu.  Focusing on the shop in Charleston, the tel. is 843-579-9295.  For the latest shopping events, please find them on all social media outlets, including Facebook.  The website is not completely set up, but you can click on http://www.lorilulu.com, and find out what brands they carry and other info.  Best would be to check them on Facebook as mentioned above.  Like something?  Call them up.

dscn3792

The Charleston store opened last year.  Some of the articles mentioned that it is a crossover store, that it serves women that want to wear stylish clothing at any age.  I found it to be so.  There is something for everyone, including some bubbles for your pet.

dscn3802dscn3803

Southern hospitality was extended to us everywhere we went.  And the ladies at Lori & Lulu were great.  Very friendly, knowing their products so well.

Let’s go shopping!  The importance of the right accessories.  They can either make or break what you are wearing.

Destination? Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival, Saturday, March 7th, Event, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Let Spring Begin!!

dscn4072

I don’t know about you but I am getting tired of seeing the above scenery on my deck.  For many of us that live in Southern Delaware, the annual Chocolate Festival unofficially opens the season at the Beaches.  It is a time to start fixing a few things so when visitors and guests arrive, sooner than you think, the beach towns will be good and ready for that special time of R & R and Summer Season 2015.

What I want to see is this.  Greenery, warm breezes, and summer like weather.

dscn4310

Visitors to the 25th Annual Chocolate Festival which takes place on Saturday, March 7th, will be finding snow in Rehoboth Beach.  Don’t get me wrong, this town is a year round resort and is waking up from a couple of months of downtime.  Pooches and locals are looking forward to this summer scenery.  I certainly am.

dscn9857

dscn9831

In the meantime, the annual Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Fesitval is turning 25 years old in 2015.  To commemorate its silver anniversary, they will unveil an entirely new event this year.  For the first time, attendees will enjoy chocolate treats by leading area professional chefs only.  The festival will be held at The Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.

Chocolate Festival Poster 2015

There will also be a new “VIP Tasting Ticket”.  Only 200 “VIP Tickets” are available at $20 each, which includes Private Admission from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 25 Chocolate Tastes!!

General Admission Tickets are available from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for $10, which includes 10 Chocolate Tastes.  Children under 12 can purchase $5 Tickets which include 5 Chocolate Tastes.  To purchase tickets online visit http://www.downtownrb.com, or stop by Snyder’s Candy at 60 Rehoboth Avenue.

Destination? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Winter at The Delaware Beaches, R & R, Southern Delaware, Sussex County, Like it in the Summer, Love it in the Winter

dscn3564

I don’t have to wonder why people head out to the Delaware Beaches in the winter.  The DE beaches are just a few hours from major cities…visitors come to relax, unwind; the beach is a state of mind.

dscn3559

In Downtown Rehoboth Beach, there were plenty of visitors walking, shopping and eating the Boardwalk Grub….33 degrees at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, 2/21/15.  I did say shopping, right?  We take tax free shopping in Delaware for granted.

dscn3572

Never too cold to eat candy from Candy Kitchen.

dscn3570

Thrasher’s always has a waiting line.  Crispy fries, a bit of salt and a lot of apple cider vinegar.

dscn3562dscn3563

A stop to Fisher’s Popcorn….I am taking some of that delicious popcorn to my cousins this week.  Love the new caramel with crab seasoning dusting.  They are going to be hooked, that’s for sure.  I even bought a small container for home to see if it would last for the Oscars tonight.  Sadly to report, it did not.

dscn3560dscn3592

Dolles was open, as well.

dscn3565

dscn3566

Silver Lake is a freshwater lake and one of the 3 in Rehoboth Beach that is closer to an ocean than any other freshwater lake in the U.S.  Very scenic and a bird sanctuary, as well.  On Saturday, it was quiet and still.

Shop Local, Sugar Scrubs, “Duck” Tape Bows, Lolipops….Young Entrepeneurs, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Pamper Your Skin with Locally made Sugar Scrubs!!

dscn3594

Cold, winter, bitter, snowy…..pamper your skin now during the winter, sugar scrubs, locally made by young girls promise to leave your skin so soft…..Oh, pure luxury!!

dscn3589

In my neighborhood these young girls are busy year round.  During the hot summer weather, they are out there with their lemonade stand.  People do stop.  Nothing better than a cold glass of lemonade at reasonable prices.

So, I was flagged down by one of the youngest….We have sugar scrubs she said.  How much, I asked?  She said $1.  I told them I would take 2.  She yelled at her sister….”bring mine too”.  I gave them $1.00 tip.

I had to keep on going, there was a car behind me.

Once I got home I grabbed Addy and told her we were going for a walk….it was snowing.

They were still there attending to Andrew, another customer.

Andrew bought one of their “duck” or “duct” tape bows, same thing, right?….Awesome he said.

dscn3588

So I wanted to know more.  From the photo you can see their set-up.  The display, so appealing and very visible.

I asked them what was the name of their company.  Savannah & Sawyer the oldest one said.  But, she is not here.  So, who are you?  She said Sawyer.  The other name of the company is LH….they did not seem to mind that they sold the same thing.

I was told that the scrub needed to be applied with my hands in a circular motion.  And, that I needed to rinse it off.  I hope so…great, love it!!

The “duck” or “duct” tape bows were .50, the sugar scrub was 1.00, and the lollipops were .15.

They also told Andrew and I that the person behind me did not stop.  Andrew told them that they were not going to get everyone….it’s the nature of the business.

These girls are showing us that it is never to early to start a business.  They were so friendly, knew their product well, and had a great sense of marketing….32 degrees…why not scrub?

Have a good one!!

Shop Local, Carla’s Rosaries, Puerto Rico, Handmade Rosaries, Jewelry, Bracelets, Ventana al Mar, Mercado Urbano (Urban Market), First Sunday of each Month, Condado, La Isla del Encanto, Save the Date: Sunday, March 1st

dscn3318

I am praying that it gets a little warmer at the Delaware Beaches…..but I remember well a couple of weeks ago when visiting Puerto Rico we went to the Mercado Urbano or Urban Market that takes place at Ventana al Mar (Window to the Sea) on Ashford Avenue in Condado the first Sunday of every month.  A popular place to be in order to get up close and personal with many local artists….and taste that delicious Puertorican food.

The rosaries did attract our attention.  They were beautiful.  Meet the artist behind Carla’s Rosaries and bracelets…Carla.  Very friendly and most accommodating.  So many of us asking questions…could you add this other medal or replace this one for that one.  With a smile on her face she obliged.

dscn3356dscn3370

Carla’s Rosaries are sold in Puerto Rico at Carla’s Sweets in Guaynabo and at Carla’s Sweets cart at Plaza Las Americas in Hato Rey.  Please visit http://www.carlasrosaries.com.  Tel. 787-792-9777  You can find Carla’s Rosaries on Facebook, as well.  Please note that Carla’s Rosaries can be purchased online.

dscn3397dscn3400

Carla is also the baker behind Carla’s Sweets.  So successful in San Juan.  I will have to try them next time, but in the meantime you may visit http://www.carlassweets.com.  Shop online, shipping available.

Carla’s Rosaries and bracelets are made with semi-precious stones.  The metals are not silver, but alloy and pewter.  With time the rosaries will take a “vintage” look.  With a bit of care they can last you a lifetime.

dscn3355dscn3399

Please open http://www.carlasrosaries.com, to read about her story.  At times when a door closes, another opens.  It was pretty much the case for her.  Going through a difficult time in her life, she went to a family retreat.  She stated that during the retreat she felt anxious….a couple acknowledged the fact that praying had changed their lives.  Carla started to cry.  Some began to pray for her and gave her a Rosary, blessed by the Virgin of Medugorje.  They also gave her the novena of the Divine Mercy, which is supposed to be prayed at 3:00 p.m.  Her story is passionate, she is devout of the Divine Mercy, very spiritual, and very much at peace.

Carla wanted to wear a rosary, not in a traditional way.  She loves accessories….so Carla’s Rosaries began.  Carla’s Rosaries can be worn in a traditional way, or you can wear them like a scarf…worn like that by Carla on the above photos.

dscn3357FullSizeRender (9)FullSizeRender (10)FullSizeRender (11)

The Mercardo Urbano or Urban Market will be at Ventana al Mar on Sunday, March 1st, and you can be sure that Carla’s Rosaries and bracelets will be making a statement like they usually do.

dscn3398

Note:  You may have your rosary blessed.

Destination? Walking on Ashford, Condado, Puerto Rico, Art Deco Building, Miami, Mission/Spanish Revival Hotel, Condado Vanderbilt, Localista, Puerto Rico Designs, La Isla del Encanto

dscn3297

Walking on Ashford in Condado is a past time for many that are visiting the island of Puerto Rico….plenty of upscales shops, restaurants, and hotels on this very popular Ave.  I hear the community is involved in making sure Condado lives up to its name.

Ashford Avenue is within walking distance of beaches and everything else to make your vacation a special one.  As a matter of fact Ashford Avenue is parallel to the beach.  Taxis, and public transportation can take you to Old San Juan, a city over 500 years old.

The Art Deco Buildings are beautiful and one in particular is the Miami building located at 868 Ashford Avenue and built in 1936.  The colors are peach and light blue.

dscn3287

“The Art Deco style represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress.”  Bold geometric designs, lavish ornamentation, and colours characterized this style.

Congratulations to San Juan, Puerto Rico since the National Register of Historic Places has recognized 3 iconic hotels and has welcomed them as members.  They are the Caribe Hilton San Juan, built in 1949, Condado Plaza Hilton built in 1963 and the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel built in 1919.

dscn3274

The Condado Vanderbilt is located at 1055 Ashford Avenue.   http://www.condadovanderbilt.com The style?  Mission/Spanish Revival.  This is a 5 star hotel, known for luxury and special services.  Ballrooms, banquet meetings…the hotel is oceanfront.  So, I stopped to check it out with my Puertorican cousins, Sonia, and Margie.  Resort wear is the choice for dressing.

dscn3273

The hotel has been updated completely.  The marble floors, I believe are the original ones.

We stepped into the Vanderbilt Court…here are some of the photos.
