Crust & Craft, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Wood Fired Pizza, Local Beers, Southern Delaware, The Art of Wining & Dining, Delaware Beaches

Good for the whole family. That was my first impression. Neighborhood feel restaurant located at 18701 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-313-5029 Check the menu at http://www.crustandcraftrehoboth.com

Love the restaurants on Coastal Highway. At this time of the year parking is hard to come by so the restaurants on this main road at the beaches have plenty of parking.

I had not been to this restaurant for a long time. New ownership by SoDel Concepts since this past year.

Crust & Craft is modern, lots of lights, open kitchen concept…..see the wood fire oven right there past the counter.

It was around 2:00 p.m. when we arrived. We decided to share a salad and a pizza. The pizzas are 12 inches; perfect for sharing. They have plenty of beers to choose from.

We ordered the Wood Roasted Brussels Sprouts. It arrived looking beautiful with butternut, Moody Blue, Apple, a maple vinaigrette dressing, pumkin seeds topping the salad. Great combination of flavors.

It was not until later that I was thinking about this salad and looked at the photo closely. I remember there was something missing. The salad was to have the brussels sprouts wood roasted. They were not really roasted. That roasted flavor was not there. We ate it and did not complain. All in all, it was really good but it would have been better if they would have been roasted.

Our choice of The Funghi Pizza did not disappoint. Parmesan Bechamel, Kennett Roasted Mushrooms, House Cheese Blend, and delicious caramelized onions. It was delicious!! The perfect size for two people.

Having had good service, good food and an affordable price, I can tell you that I cannot wait to go back.

Remember to check my Facebook page AboutMyBeaches.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the Summer 2019!!

Cabbage and Celery Casserole, Recipes Begged Borrowed & Stolen, Meatless Monday, Easy, The Art of Wining and Dining, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

It was early evening and once in a while I get on the band wagon of writing about Meatless Monday. It is a global organization trying to get peopple to eat a little healthier even if it is one day per week.

Sadie, my Rescue, was sitting outside guarding. I had the ingredients to make Cabbage and Celery Casserole. I was not doing a thing. It is Monday, what can I say.

I have put this recipe in the past on my website http://www.aboutmybeaches.com.

But a few times I make it my own recipe, adding a little bit or this or a little bit of that. The recipe really belonged to my late mother in law, Louise Merryman. She was a fabulous cook. Years ago she made a recipe book for the girls in the family called Recipes Begged, Borrowed and Stolen. And, every Christmas she gave us inserts.

This recipe is an old one she had for many years and even though she said it fed 6 to 8 people, if my late husband, John, was around that was not the case. John loved it.

Tonight I fixed the recipe just like she gave it to me. If you have a gluten allergy it would be very easy to convert.

I hope you like it. Here it goes:

2 cups sliced celery

6 cups thinly sliced green cabbage

4 tblsps. butter

In a large frying pan, melt butter and saute celery over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Then, add cabbage and saute for another 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper. Place in a fairly shallow bakig dish or casserole.

The baking dish I used was a Pyrex 9 x 13 inch one. You don’t want a deep dish.

Make the Cream Sauce:

4 tblsps. butter

3 tblsps. flour ( If you want to make it gluten free used a different flour)

2 cups milk ( I had non fat milk)

1/2 tsp salt

Dash of red pepper

1 small jar of chopped pimento

Dry Bread Crumbs are optional. I did use them. Again, if you want to make the dish gluten free you will have to adjust that.

Melt the butter in a pan, add flour and stir constantly for a minute or two over low heat to blend ingredients and take away the floury taste. You are, actually, making a roux. Then, gradually add milk, stirring and cook until mixture thickens but not too heavily thickened. Add salt, pepper, and pimento, including the liquid in the jar. Mix well and pour over the vegetable mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle with dry bread crumbs and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes. If you want it a little more brown on top then just broil it for a bit. But, watch it.

The exact proportions of celery and cabbage is not important. Use what you have or prefer.

I decided I needed some color on my plate. So, local tomatoes and grilled asparus was another easy thing to add.

All I had to do is serve wine and sit outside.

Deliciously good and so satisfying.

I love the following saying: “Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.” How true.

Miyagi, Ramen Bar, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Southern Delaware, DE Beaches, Japanese, Korean, Fusion Cuisine, The Art of Wining and Dining

We should consider ourselves so lucky to be at the Southern Delaware Beaches. Scorching temperatures even if sitting at the beach.

With hot temperatures I would like something light for lunch and dinner. It was late in the afternoon when I decided to stop at Miyagi Ramen Bar located at Shops at Seacoast, 19266 Coastal Highway, Unit 6 in Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. It is where the Safeway is.

Miyagi opened a few years ago and to tell you the truth I should have stopped sooner. It was great to see Kim again. I used to always talk to him when he was at Saketumi. He owns Miyagi and is enjoying the hard work that it takes to give customers the best ingredients money can buy.

By the way his noodles are homemade. He makes weekly trips to Philadelphia to buy all the ingredients needed to make these dishes all top notch.

The restaurant is bigger than it appears from the outside. Plenty of parking which is a relief this time of the year.

There is a full bar, as well.

I decided on the Tuna Poke Bowl. This dish had sashimi grade tuna, poke sauce, avocado, edamame, bonito, seaweed salad, nori, masago and mixed greens over rice. It was delicious. A healthy serving too.

The website is http://www.miyagiramenbar.com.

The telephone is 302-567-2385. Take out orders are offered but to me I think the experience is eating inside. Check the menu.

I cannot wait to go again. Plenty to choose from even for my Vegan friends.

Unitl later, let me know how you like by going to the AboutMyBeaches Facebook page.

Summer 2019 is passing by.

Big Chill Beach Club, Indian River Inlet, Delaware State Seashore Park, SoulFire Collective, Yoga, Delaware Beaches, Misaki Sushi, South Bethany, Bethany Beach, Sipping, Dining, Coastal Delaware, Summer 2019

At times when you do not plan anything and just go with the flow or wing it, you have the most fun. Long summer days, not rushing, is part of living here at the Delaware Beaches. Believe me, I know I am lucky to live here and never take it for granted.

Debbie and I took off towards the Big Chill Beach Club. This is located south of Dewey Beach, Delaware, and probably closer to Bethany Beach. The actual address is 27099 Coastal Hwy., Bethany Beach, DE 19930. It opens at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day. Website? http://www.bigchillbeachclub.com

You can have the server sit you at a table or you can take a seatt at the bar looking out, which is what Debbie and I did. That was our view, sipping a little wine. We checked the menu and it actually looked good. Have not tasted the food so let me know if you do.

As we arrived it seemed there was a yoga class. This yoga studio in Rehoboth Beach, SoulFire, was celebrating with a class their 1st year anniversary. Very popular as you can see. SoulFire Collective Yoga is located at 176 Rehoboth Ave., #2a, in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Website? http://www.soulfirecollective.com

The sun was setting and being high up you could capture how pretty it was.

Summer 2019 is expected to be a very busy one. The Delaware Beaches are year round resorts. People want to get out of the city. They want to experience that total physical and mental inertia. Refresh, really. Rehoboth Beach has a sign as you enter the city that says “Relax, You Are at The Beach”.

Finding parking might take all that physical and mental inertia by the wayside so Debbie and I continued to Misaki Sushi in South Bethany. Parking, good food, great service and very affordable.

Misaki has been around for many years. The location is at 34444 Coastal Highway, York Beach Mall, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. It opens at 5 p.m. Tel. 302-539-0500. You can find them on Facebook as Misaki Sushi Bethany Beach. You can also find them on Instagram.

A shout to our server who was attentive but not intrusive.

Debbie and I started with two salads. The Seaweed Salad for Debbie, which was marinated seaweed and sesame seeds. And mine was the Lighthouse Salad which I found delicious. Seared tuna, avocado and sweet miso.

I love scallop sashimi so when on the menu, I do order it. My roll was the special of the evening.

For Debbie the Bam Bam, salmon, scallop and avocado.

We chatted, caught up with each other, and laughed…..what are friends for, right?

The Art of Sipping & Dining, a way to relax, enjoy and reconnect. Talk to you later.

The Wooden Indian, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Boutique, Shopping, Baltimore Ave., Tax Free Shopping, Gifts, Housewares, Bridal Registry, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Summer 2019

Shop Local….The Wooden Indian is one of those boutiques that couldn’t be more local. Located on the trendy Baltimore Avenue, it is an iconic shop in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. It has been here since 1977. If Frances Cowgill happens to be there when you visit, please ask her to tell you from the beginnings ot The Wooden Indian until now. She has been there all that time. Location? 25 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-227-8331. Find them on Facebook. Website? http://www.woodenindianltd.com

Every time I have written about The Wooden Indian I have to mention that when my kids were very young I would bring them into the store. The first time they looked at me probably thinking “if you break it, you buy it”. What they did not know then was that I would have told them that they could only touch with their eyes. Amazingly so I never had a problem.

The Wooden Indian has an extensive bridal registry department. China, crystal, silverware and other gifts appropriate for weddings and parties in a wide variety of prices.

Exquisite brands…the store is beautifully appointed. Upon entering you feel right at home. Not only a friendly staff, but the building itself is cozy.

Great pillows to refresh those sofas at home.

We, here in Delaware, have tax free shopping. It really is a big savings, so take the opportunity to shop in our beach towns. At The Wooden Indian, they can fix party baskets for all seasons. They will wrap your gifts beautifully. They also can ship.

I don’t know about you but my friends are grandparents now many times over. Baby gifts that are unique can be found at The Wooden Indian. Look how cute they are.

You have to agree that they are very different from what you get in other stores.

I can guarantee you that you will find that perfect gift you are looking for.

Summer 2019 is here….and so is June. We have many coastal weddings, taking advantage of our beautiful resort towns.

Until next time…..Relax, You are At The Beach!!

The Blue Hen, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Sipping, Dining, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Summer 2019

Tuesday evening, before the Memorial weekend, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was one of those clear nights with cooler temperatures conducive to seating outdoors by the fire sipping a little something before having dinner. A Tempranino for me and a beer for Cathy.

The Blue Hen is located at the Avenue Inn on 33 Wilmington Avenue. Tel. 302-278-7842. Website? http://www.thebluehenrehoboth.com

There are not too many restaurants in Downtown Rehoboth Beach where you can sit outside. Besides that, The Blue Hen serves delicious food.

Having first a few drinks by the fire…..you can see my friend, Cathy with the red jacket on this photo.

The Blue Hen has a casual atmosphere, just like most restaurants at the Delaware Beaches. It is a way of life. There is a full bar available, as well.

We started with a salad called Baywater Farms Salad, mesclum, shaved beet, radish, avocado, roasted pepitas, ricotta salata and a green chili ranch dressing.

After the salad which by the way set the mood for our dinner was an order of Fried Green Tomatoes. Totally delicious with shrimp salad, avocado and espelette. Don’t worry I did not know what espelette was. But, inquiring minds want to know so I Googled it. It is a variety of pepper that is cultivated in the French commune of Espelette, which is in the northern territory of the Basque people. The combination of flavors and the shrimp salad added not only terrific flavor but a pretty presentation.

My friend decided on the Pan Seared King Salmon. It was like a tower with sunchoke cream, braised red cabbage, the salmon and green pickled cucumbers.

Not only did it look amazing but it tasted just like it looks here on the photo.

Softshell season is one of my favorite times at the Delaware Beaches. I love softshells sauteed. I think I do because it is when you first experience how sweet a blue crab is. But, at times, I indulge on a fried softshell. At The Blue Hen you had a choice, just so you know. Once our server mentioned they had them, I did not have to look any further. This was my first one of the season. It did not disappoint.

The desserts sounded delicious but we wanted to take a stroll on the Boardwalk before nightfall.

There are so many places to eat in Rehoboth Beach and surrounding beaches. Plenty of us, foodies, would like you try them all. It is such a personal thing, I hope you enjoy my choices.

If you are dining in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, a stroll is a must after dinner. Beautiful at dusk……Relax You are At The Beach.

Ish, Shop, Apparel, Home, Beauty, Baby!! Ocean City, Maryland, Ish is Opening in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

A couple of weeks ago my friend, Sharon, and I stopped by Ish. This boutique is located at 3408 Coastal Hwy., Ocean City, MD 21842. Website? http://www.ishshop.com

The owner of Ish is Christina Lawson. A very dedicated and fun young woman who is taking this boutique to a different level. It is basically, a women’s boutique but she has a little bit for everyone….almost every woman could find something here for her, for the home, gifts and even for babies.

,

Here is Christina with my friend, Sharon. It was the opening for the 2019 season. Ish is opening in a few weeks in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware at 403 Rehoboth Ave. Already, as I drive by the store in Rehoboth it looks like it is getting ready. The light and airy lifestyle of our beaches is something that will be seen throughout the store.

Make sure you check out the website because they do offer online shopping.

Look at some of the things we found at Ish in Ocean City.

Over the years I have always said that there is nothing better than the personal touch of a boutique. Stay in touch and keep because I believe the opening is the week-end of May 3rd.

Anyway, at least stop by and say hello. You will fall in love with her.

Until next time….I hope your Easter Sunday is grand.

Mary’s Touch, Moving, Packing, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Sussex County

A few months ago I needed a mover. As it is usually the case a friend gave me the name of Mary Nicholson who is the owner of Mary’s Touch. Her company, Mary’s Touch Moving & Packing, LLC specializes in new homes, storage and retirement homes. Tel. 302-745-1272.

Word of mouth is the best advertising you can get. You are happy with the work, you will definitely, pass the word around. I have been meaning to write a post on Mary because they were true professionals. At some point or another everyone needs a mover that will pack and move your treasures to either another home or to a storage unit.

Totally recommend this company. Please give Mary a call.
