And….For the Delaware Beaches….Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach….and Ocean City, Maryland….The events will be….

 

Lewes, Delaware

Saturday, October 10th – Geocaching the Cape – At the Cape Henlopen State Park – 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Learn geocaching skills while exploring hidden treasures.  Limited to 12.  $2.00/person  Pre-registration is required by calling 302-645-6852.  Meet at the Seaside Nature Center inside the State Park, 42 Cape Henlopen Drive.  Remember that to enter the park an entrance fee will be collected until Nov. 30th.

And, do you know what Geocaching is?  It is outdoors.  And, it is an activity where you use a GPS or other navigational technology to hide and seek containers called geocaches or caches anywhere in the world.  It is really a high tech game of hide and seek.  This info. was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/geocaching.

Saturday, October 10th – Battery 519 Museum Tours – 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Pre-registration is required.  Call Seaside Nature Center at 302-645-6852. Take a guided tour of a WWII coastal defense gun battery and see the renovations to this historic site.  Learn its history and plans for the future. Limited to 30.  $5/adult and $2.50 per child. 

Fort Miles located in what is now Cape Henlopen State Park, was a key part of the nation’s coastal defense during and after WWII.  Programs are suitable for ages 8 and older. Meet at the Orientation Building. Directions: Follow the Fort Miles signs to the Historic Area parking lot.  Walk the paved road through the Cantonment Area to the Orientation Bldg. which is the last building on your right.

Sunday, October 11th – Beer Wars Screening – A fundraising event co-sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society and Dogfish Head.  Location: The Milton Theatre in Milton, Delaware and Dogfish Brewery in Milton, as well.  Starting at 3:00 p.m.  Tickets $40.  For more details go to www.rehobothfilm.com.

Sunday, October 11th – The Seashore Strider Running Club’s 2nd Annual Giggle Medic 5K Run and Walk at the Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes.  9:00 a.m.  Contact Tim Bamforth at Tim@seashorestrider.com or for more info. on this race go to www.seashorestriders.com.

 

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Thursday, October 8th – Delaware Comedy Theatre – Family Comedy Jam at the Rehoboth Beach Library in downtown Rehoboth.  6:00 until 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 10th – 2009 Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk Buddy Walk at the Boardwalk and Bandstand. 9:00 a.m. until Noon.  Register or donate online at www.boardwalkbuddywalk.com. This event is to benefit the National Down Syndrome Society to raise awareness for people with Down Syndrome.

Saturday, October 10th – Mosaic Second Saturdays Destination Art Walk.  Yes, it is the second Saturday of every month, where you get to check the galleries, art and more in downtown Rehoboth. 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  For more info. visit www.mosaicrehoboth.com.

 

Dewey Beach, Delaware

Thursday, October 8th until Sunday, October 11th – Greyhounds Reach the Beach.  The Greyhounds have been coming to Dewey Beach this time of the year from all over the United States and Canada.  What started with a few people getting together with these wonderful dogs, is now a big event with 3,000 greyhounds in attendance some years.  This year it will be back to basics with no registration or formal schedule.  Please check their website which is www.adopt-a-greyhound.org. Ocean City, Maryland

Thursday, October 8th until Sunday, October 11th – It is the 12th Annual Endless Summer Crusin’ at the Inlet Parking Lot.  Hot rod car show features more than 1,500 customs, muscle cars, street machines classics and more. For more information, please visit www.endlesssummercruisin.com.

Friday, October 9th until Sunday, October 11th – Oktoberfest at the Convention Center located at 40th St. and Bay.  Eat, drink and be merry in a traditional German style.  More info?  Please visit www.oceanpromotions.info.

Saturday, Ocotber 10th – Harbor Day at the Docks – A Waterfront Heritage Festival at the West Ocean City Harbor Area.  10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. There is more information at www.ocharborday.com.

Saturday, October 10th – Fiberfest – Julia A. Purnell Museum located at 208 W. Market St. in Snow Hill, Maryland.  Festival Admission is free.  10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. You may call Claire Otterbein at 410-632-0515 or visit the website www.purnellmuseum.com.  Snow Hill is not that far away.  It is a nice drive, particularly this time of the year.
