Bethany Beach, Delaware Beaches, Cooking for a Cause, 4th of July Parade Fundraiser, Event, DiFebo’s Restaurant, Friday, April 9th
No, I am not going crazy mentioning the 4th of July parade in Bethany Beach. The fundraising events for this amazing parade has to start now. Otherwise, how are they going to pull it together? The town of Bethany Beach does not financially support this parade but they do support it in every other way; the help of town officials, their staff, town employees, the police department, the volunteer fire company and the public works department and their crew. Every other worker is a volunteer.
This is going to be the 27th Independence Day Parade Celebration in Bethany Beach. The 4th of July falls on a Sunday, but due to the fact that they use the grounds and facilities of St. Ann’s Church and the Christian Church Conference Center to assemble the parade, this year the parade will be held on Monday, the 5th.
I was wondering about the origins of parades. Apparently, they are unknown, but in Spain there is evidence of parades in cave paintings. These paintings date back ten thousand years ago. You can imagine prehistoric men carrying back to camp their game after the hunt.
The word parade comes from the Spanish word “parada”; a halt, a stop.
The first recorded use of a float was in Athens, during the 6th century BC. It was a yearly celebration for the god, Dionysus. In Greek Mythology, Dionysus is the god of wine and drunken revelry. He is also the patron of the theater. His half brother was Apollo.
Bethany’s 4th of July Parade is planning to add more marching bands and other entertainment groups. But, again, in order to do this they need donations. By attending an event such as the one on Friday, you will be giving them a hand.
If you have never visited the town of Bethany Beach you will be in for a treat, especially that week in July. The town gets into the celebration; the vacationers, the merchants and the participants in the parade really make you feel so good. Yes, that’s the feeling; good.
DiFebo’s Restaurant is sponsoring the Cooking for a Cause on Friday, 4/9/10, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. All proceeds to benefit the parade.
