I look out the window and it looks sunny…..but I don’t kid myself. It is chilly and windy. Oh, well it is that time of the year. Second Season at the DE Beaches is great. So, what are you up to? Or, better yet, what would you like to do? Here are a few of my picks.

REHOBOTH BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY – FALL LUNCHEON – It will be held at Kings Creek Country Club on Saturday, November 22nd. Cash bar starts at 11 a.m. and the luncheon buffet will begin at 11:30. Dennis Forney, Cape Gazette Publisher will take the audience on a visually descriptive ride of his cross country bicycle trip in 2013. From “Sea to Shining Sea”. THE METROPOLITAN OPERA LIVE IN HD – IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at Cape Henlopen High School Theater in Lewes, Delaware. The opera will begin at 12:55 p.m. Admission: $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, 65 years of age and over or Rehoboth Beach Film Society members, and MET members, as well. $15 for students with I.D., $15 for a child, 12 years of age and under.  Going South...too cold here!! “THANKSLIVING” DINNER – Cilantro Restaurant located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach is offering a 3-course, sit-down meal which will featured seasonal food creatively prepared by local chefs. Sunday, November 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. The garden meat-free Turkey Roast will be provided by VegRehoboth. You may purchase tickets at Good Earth Market located at 38121 Terrace Rd.
THANKSGIVING GABBY GOBBLE 5k – Thursday, November 27th at Irish Eyes Pub, 213 Anglers Rd. in Lewes. It is the first year for this event and proceeds from the race will go to the Get Well Gabby Foundation. This foundation started in honor and memory of Gabriella Vogel, who was a valiant fighter of childhood cancer, but passed away at the age of 5. Her family and the foundation have pledged $125,000 to the A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children to build and furnish a playroom in the new oncology department in Wilmington. They have also collected 14,000 new books and donated them to the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Hershey Medical Center. This course is USATF certified with chip timing. Entrants receive long-sleeved T-shirts and awards will go to the top 3 male and female finishers in 10-year age categories, 9 and under to 70 and over and to top fundraisers. The post-race party includes beer for participants over 21 years of age. Race participants are encouraged to wear festive costumes and enjoy Turkey Day!! Registration is availabe online at http://www.races2run.com for $25 until Noon, Monday, 11/14, or at the Rehoboth Beach Running Company. Packet pickup and late registration will be then at Irish Eyes in Lewes for $30 from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th. Restaurants in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware are more and more in tune…offering meatless Monday dinners. It is a day of the week when eating vegetables, pastas, rices, beans, and other offerings give you the opportunity to eat more “plant-based”.
I decided to take my friend, Cindi, to Modern-Mixture, located at 62A Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Tel. 302-227-0600. Website? http://www.modern-mixture.com. You can find Modern-Mixture on Facebook, as well.
Modern-Mixture has been in Rehoboth for about 2 years. It has a liquor license and it opens every day except, Tuesday.
Cindi and I decided to try 2 Meatless Monday lunches. Leo suggested the following:
A tamal, enfrijolada, chile relleno with cheese, rice and guacamole.
And, the Vegan Meatloaf. I have had this meatloaf before and really think it is delicious. Beans, oats and sauce makes so good that you will not miss the beef.
Dessert was presented by Leo….It was a Chocolate Mousse Cake; light, moist with just the right amount of sweetness.

Friday, December 20th – 7:00 p.m. – Plant Based “Winter Holiday Dinner & Wine Pairing” at Modern-Mixture, also hosted by VegRehoboth. It will be a Vegan Four-Course Prix-Fixe Dinner. Special Spanish Wines will accompany each course. Wine representative Laura Lamprecht from Specialty Wines and Liquors will be on hand to discuss each wine.

Getting away from it all…that’s the beauty of heading to the Delaware Beaches. For the ones that make Rehoboth Beach their home, it is a special time during the Second Season when we get to roam the town. Rehoboth Beach is a year-round resort, where restaturants, shops, and entertainment are part of its charm. So, What’s Going On?
NEWS – The 16th anniversary of the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival was record-breaking, with 19,133 seats filled and 59 screening sell-outs!

Animal friendly cuisine, the benefits of choosing plant based foods. I wanted to learn more. Then, I came upon the card that announced an upcoming new festival in Rehoboth Beach….VegFest! It would be a vegetarian celebration at the Beach. It would feature speakers, cooking demonstrations, samples, exhibitors, food vendors and a little something for everyone…loved the vegetable garden, including the sensory garden where kids could touch and feel what was growing.
The festival was sponsored by Compassion Over Killing (COK), a national non-profit animal protection organization based in Washington,DC. COK has another office in Los Angeles. VegFest was held on a hot day but with a nice breeze. Tents were set up to accommodate the speakers and cooking demonstrations.
One of the speakers, Dr. Ruby Lathon who is a holistic health and wellness expert is an advocate for plant based nutrition. She made a couple of dishes, one in particular, caught my attention. Another stop at Delmarva Board Sports Adventures. For the entire family, from Lewes to Assateague. Stand Up Paddle Boarding. They have a new waterfront location on Rt. 54 and the Bay in Fenwick Island, next to Harpoon Hanna’s. They offer a Cape Henlopen Delaware Dolphin Excursion, paddling the calm waters of the Delaware Bay in search of the many dolphins who frolic nearby. How about SUP Wellness? It is called MERR, and that was by next stop. This is a non-profit stranding and rehabilitation organization completely committed to marine mammal and sea turtle rescue and conservation. They are first responders for stranded mammals and sea turtles. Their new automobile license plate is now available.
