Rehoboth Beach Eats!! Fins Ale House, Raw Bar, Fresh Seafood, American Fare, Gluten Free, Delaware Beaches, New for 2014!! Restaurant, Review

My usual suspects and I decided to follow the trail of many who have discovered that a new restaurant has opened in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  Fins Ale House & Raw Bar is located at 19269 Coastal Highway, or Rt. 1.  Tel. 302-227-3467.

Fins Ale House is the newest sibling of 2 other restaurants in Downtown Rehoboth Beach:  Fins Raw Bar located at 243 Rehoboth Avenue, and Claws Seafood House.

The restaurant opens for lunch at 11 a.m. and stays open until 1 a.m.  It has plenty of parking and even though parking is pretty much accessible at this time of the year in all Rehoboth Beach…in the summer, it will be a totally different scene.  So, keep Fins Ale House in mind when visiting Rehoboth Beach and want fresh seafood, raw bar, American fare and gluten free items.  And, for those young ones, there is a kids’ menu, as well.

When we entered the restaurant the feel I got was of a fish house in the south.  Open bar, lots of wood…a place where friendly chatter accompanies fresh seafood, and drinks.

There is another dining room adjacent to the bar area if you prefer so.

I love oysters at this time of the year.  Cold outside and cold, salty oysters are my favorites.  I decided to get one of each to try them.  On the board, there were the choices of the day.  On my plate and clockwise are the oysters.

We all decided on the House Salad, which by the way, was delicious and refreshing.  We are all trying to keep our New Year’s resolutions, if you get my drift.

Debbie had fried oysters on her salad.

dscn7218

Jody had fried shrimp on hers.

dscn7217

And mine was just the plain House Salad.

That’s all we had but we will be back for more….Talk to you later.

Dining, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Henlopen City Oyster House, Restaurant, Raw Bar, Seafood, Review, Delaware Beaches

“We like to keep a constant rotation of beverages and fresh food on hand, that’s why we update our menu daily.”  henlopen city oyster house

With that in mind, my friend, Debbie, and I decided on this restaurant for lunch.  She had asked me to choose…believe it or not, I had never been.  I must be the only one in Rehoboth Beach who has not.  Henlopen City Oyster House is located at 50 Wilmington Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-260-9193.  Website?  http://www.hcoysterhouse.com.  It opens at Noon for lunch and for dinner, as well.  No reservations.

dscn9863

As you entered the restaurant, to the left was the bar.  Already the Sunday football fans were taking their places.  The bar was crowded and the oyster bar was busy.

dscn9862

It is an oyster house, therefore, a wide variety of oysters are available.  Please check their selections.  Have in mind that they get updated all the time.  http://www.hcoysterhouse.com/specialy.html.

We were surprised to see friends from Ocean City.  They had plates full of oysters.

We chose to sit in their dining room.  It was comfortable with large windows, and the perfect spot to catch up.

dscn9855

The lunch and dinner menu looked great.  Fresh seafood and local foods, supporting the local farmers is something this restaurant takes seriously.

The question to my server was…If you have never eaten here, what would be the dish that would really hook you?  There was no hesitation on her part when she answered…New England Lobster Roll or the Lobster Reuben.  She said they were delicious.

For me that did it.  An order of their Lobster Reuben.  Lobster salad, cole slaw, thousand island dressing, gruyere, grilled rye, served with a choice of side.  I decided on the side salad since this sandwich was going to be big.  When it was placed in front of me, it looked great.  The bread nice and thick….the first bite had my taste buds dancing.  I was hoping I did not have to share.

dscn9853

Debbie went all out, by ordering their Classic Oyster Stew.  It was made in a traditional Eastern Shore classic way with cream, oyster liquor, Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco, and Old Bay.  It was a little thicker than the one I just had last week in Philadelphia.  Great flavor and consistency.

dscn9847

She decided on the Henlopen City Po’Boy Sandwich.  Debbie chose the Po’Boy made with a combination of scallops and shrimp.  This sandwich was huge, with Creole mustard marinated cabbage, pickled red onions, soft roll.  Her side was the Mac & Cheese, which was creamy, well seasoned with a hint of nutmeg.

No dessert was necessary….a walk around Downtown Rehoboth Beach is what we needed.

We really enjoyed it….great to get together with good friends…Priceless!!  Talk to you later.

Eating…in Rehoboth Beach, Fins, Fish House & Raw Bar, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches

dscn2492

Not having gone out of the house all day, on Saturday, we decided to take a drive through Rehoboth Ave.  I could not believe how crowded it was.  It had been a rainy day, but at this time of the evening, the weather had cleared, and visitors were ready to start their evening.

Downtown Rehoboth Beach is a very walkable town; restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues are at close proximity.

We decided to stop at Fins located at 243 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-226-FIN.  Website? www.finsrawbar.com

dscn2493

We just wanted a few drinks and some of their delicious oysters and clams.  It is a full fledge restaurant, but we chose their Bar.  It had a cozy atmosphere; crowded.   The saying “where everyone is your friend”, fits them perfectly.

dscn2472

Fins has two floors for dining, but, you can also eat at the bar.

dscn2479

It is well known for the seafood, but the restaurant offers beef and chicken dishes from local purveyors, as well.  Sandwiches like lobster rolls, po’ boys, crabcakes; and hamburgers, soups you name it.  A description of their dishes are found on the website.  But, better yet, pay them a visit.  They are open 7 days a week for dinner starting at 4:00 p.m.  On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Fins opens for lunch, as well, from 11:30 until 4:00 p.m.

dscn2474

We came in and immediately decided to check their oyster menu.  It changes all the time, with Fins, offering the freshest oysters available.  Oysters are inspected right after they have been shucked.  No way are you going to get a bad oyster here.

dscn2484

The beer board was up offering also custom crafted beers.  To the right you can see percentages of the alcohol level found in each.

dscn2486

A little conversation here or there with some of the patrons…it was time to order some oysters.  The first oysters ordered were Blue Points; plump, meaty and sweet.

dscn2478

The next oysters ordered were the White Caps.  These oysters were smaller but so delicious.  Salty, which is the way we like them.

dscn2483

I decided to go with steamed clams.  I love raw oysters but really do enjoy the clams, as well.  These clams were so good; small and tasty.  More than a dozen were ordered.

dscn2476

Having satisfied our cravings, we decided to go home.  It was getting to the point when plenty of diners were arriving.  This restaurant is one of those neighborhood restaurants that can mingle their more matured customers with the younger crowd.  It really was fun to watch.

Have a great day!!
