Dalmata Italiano, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Italian Food, Pizza, Homemade Desserts, Bar, Delaware Beaches

By the looks of today, the weather is not that great. Last Sunday it was magical. Warm breezes and a beautiful boardwalk for walking and working up an appetite.
Where to go? I had a craving for pizza. And walking destination took me to Dalmata. It is located at 28 Wilmington Ave. 302-227-8512.

Dalmata opens Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

I have fallen in love with Dalmata for different reasons. I use it as my neighborhood restaurant. If I don’t feel like cooking or have a craving for everything Italian or pizza, I know I will feel very comfortable there eating by myself. Not that eating by myself has ever stopped me from going to a restaurant😁

I started with a Rose Prosecco. I told you I had walked the Boardwalk.

Starting with a Burrata Caprese Salad. The Burrata had a buttery and milky flavor, so delicate. A sprinkle of balsamic pearls gives a tangy flavor.

On this Sunday evening I would try the pizza called Carbonara “Sorta”. It had a vodka sauce, mozzarella, fontina, buttered spicy peas, prosciutto and whipped ricotta. I had never tried peas on my pizza but, actually, they were a very nice addition.

What a surprise arriving to my table. They were called Crack Donuts. Crispy on the outside, with warm ricotta cheese and one had chocolate ricotta. A chocolate sauce for dipping. Greg, these are keepers👏👏

All in all the service was excellent, the conversation was fun.

TGIF have a great weekend.

Sirocco, Restaurant, Mediterranean, Rehoboth Beach, Breakfast, Happy Hour, Dinner, Bar, Delaware Beaches

One of the newest restaurants in Downtown Rehoboth Beach is Sirocco. 302-727-0317. It is inside the new Coast Rehoboth Beach Hotel on Rehoboth Ave.

They are opening Monday – Friday for breakfast from 7-11 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday breakfast is 7-10 a.m.

Dinner is from Wednesday through Sunday starting at 5. That could maybe change as the season gets underway.

Happy Hour is 5-7 at the bar only.

The Bar stays open Wednesday – Sunday from 5-10.

This is a Mediterranean restaurant. The simple; uncomplicated food of the region that is so healthy.

I have been several times to Sirocco. I like it because the food has been very good, the service attentive, a modern corner in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Love the background music too.

Three for dinner, please. We did have a reservation.

A special Cream of Crab Soup which my friend said it was delicious. Very creamy with lots of crab meat.

Another soup ordered was the Lemon Chicken & Orzo. Herb roasted chicken, bone broth, farm veggies, stewed white beans and orzo. Orzo is a pasta shaped like a large grain of rice. Benedette thought it was very nice.

I really love scallops and Jeff decided to order them. Look how big they were. Served with wild mushroom risotto, charred pepper, asparagus, Parmigiano Reggiano and fresh basil oil.

I like my lamb chops medium rare but Benedette likes them medium. They looked so good and I have had them before and they really are. They served them with a warm couscous salad, grilled artichokes, roasted eggplant and mint gremolata. FYI Gremolata is a green sauce made of chopped parsley, lemon zest and garlic.

My dish was one that I pretty much order it any restaurant that may serve it whole. The beautiful Branzino. It is the European seabass. Sirocco does a great job with a stunning presentation.

Whole roasted, grilled lemon and fresh rosemary and thyme and roasted tomato salad. You had to be there to really appreciate it.

I eat a whole fish like a cat. I get right into it, just like I pick my crabs. So much fun. I do get compliments. I am not kidding.?

So while we still have free parking and the masses are not here, check out the Downtown restaurants and Sirocco is a good one to start with.

Have a beautiful spring day.

Blue Moon, Restaurant, Bar, Entertainment Venue, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, The Atrium, Delaware Beaches

Blue Moon is one of those iconic places in Rehoboth Beach that checks all the boxes. Great food, love the atmosphere, excellent service, entertainment that you would want to come for more.

Love The Atrium, Bar and high tops. Two piano players this summer. I love them both. The customers get right into the whole show. More so if you can carry a tune.

Location? 35 Baltimore Avenue.

I order the Tuna Carpaccio all the time.

Next? Mozzarella Burrata…Grilled Mango. How good is that?

Not only did we order Roasted Oysters. We order two of them?

You may not think you would order the Chicken Pot Pie. Think again. It is awesome?? You need to try it.

Very tasty Short Rib Stroganoff. Another good choice.

Stuffed Shrimp, big, perfectly cooked and crabmeat to boot!

Now the “piece of resistance”. Should we do it? Of course we did. The Moon Pie Bomb. I may have felt guilty but not really.

Our Server Juan Perez deserves a big shout❤️

Wishing the best weekend. AboutMyBeaches is on Facebook and Instagram.

The Federal, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Rehoboth Beach Eats, A Bistro

Wow, two visits to The Federal in 2 weeks. That good. It opened in Downtown Rehoboth Beach a few years ago as Federal Fritter. I have to agree that calling it just The Federal is so much better.

It is located at 62A Rehoboth Ave. 302-727-5609.

Introducing friends to The Federal has been fun.

We tried the Crispy Virginia Oyster Fritters and we chose the Lemon Horseradish Aioli for dipping. They were crispy and light.

Going back and forth….what should we have?

A choice of the Softshells as a main course. They did have them as a starter, as well.

I am so glad the House Made Ricotta Gnocchi is kept on the menu. It is delicious. This dish has MD Blue Crab (the best), gulf shrimp, New Bedford scallops, sugar snap peas, pesto cream sauce.

The scallops is another dish that is excellent. Served with sauteed sweet corn, local peaches, and pickled banana peppers.

I decided to go with two starters for my dinner. Brought at the same time.

Chilled Delmarva Sweet Corn Soup with poached gulf shrimp, pickled watermelon, and roasted corn.

Then the Starter offering of the Softshells.

Fresh fruit during the summer…..Yummy tarts with homemade ice cream.

I have to give a shout to Lauren. She was so friendly and knew the menu well.

Summer 2023 as we know it is coming to an end but the next season is my favorite in Southern Delaware.

Drift, Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Review, Bar, Delaware Beaches, Showstoppers, Just One Dish

2023 is almost half gone. Waiting for Summer 2023 at the Delaware Beaches.

I love it when I visit local restaurants that are favorites, as well as new ones, including in my travels and what comes to mind is: I can’t wait to come back. That’s when I know the restaurant is good.

I opened this blog called AboutMyBeaches in 2009 knowing that I would not please everyone with my food choices. You know how it is. We have all different likes and dislikes.

Just One Dish….Showcasing a dish; a starter, entree, dessert, or drink. That one that caught my attention since the beginning of 2023.

The restaurant is Drift, located at 42 1/2 Baltimore Ave. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE.

http://www.driftrb.com

This starter has caught my attention on several visits. It is called New Jersey Fluke Crudo. Crudo means raw. Avocado crema, daikon radish, blood orange ponzu, red thai chili, fennel pollen, and green onion. It is a simple dish, has amazing fresh taste, and great presentation.

Drift changes their menu all the time but if you see this little gem I suggest you try it. Delicious?

Dalmata, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Pizza, Pasta, Bar, Downtown Rehoboth Beach

Look at the menu. Dalmata has been serving carry out this past year and just recently opened for inside dining. I love the idea that it stays open until 10 p.m. Located at 28 Wilmington Ave., Unit E in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Just tried it on Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised. Seeing the restaurant taking shape from the street, it look like it was going to be so comfortable and pretty inside. It certainly is.

They do still have curbside pick up as well. Check http://www.dalmataitaliano.com

A little Chianti, and a chat with our server, Katie. She was very enthusiastic and knew her menu well.

I asked her about the size of the pizza. She said they were 14 inches and good to share if you have other things or if you are hungry it would be just perfect for one person. I found that it was a good size. The crust was delicious. It really was and our choice was #1 White Lightning. This pizza had creamed roasted garlic and garlic oil. I put the menu above so take a look at it to see what else was on it.

But before the pizza an order of the Caesar Salad which was perfect for one person. Love the croutons and dressing.

Not on the menu as a side serving, but they were making some in the kitchen. I am talking about Broccoli Rabe. They were very nice in serving us a dish full of it and I hope they add it to the menu. We loved it.

Another glass of Chianti because why not? It is the beginning of the 4th of July weekend. I know, I know…..Wednesday, right, but here at the beaches we take an opportunity to celebrate every time we get a chance.

I almost forgot to tell about my calamari. I love squid and octopus. When I see calamari on the menu I usually order it. Lightly fried, a little heat with the banana peppers and tasty sauce. Went very well with the Chianti.

I really do want to go back and try a few other things. Love that the menu is simple. The best things in life are usually that way, simple.

Enjoy the weekend. Celebrate and remember those who have given their lives so that we can celebrate.

A shout to Katie, as well.

Summer 2021, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Buy Local, Support your Community, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

The color on trees and bushes have been unreal. Maybe is all that rain we got in the spring. At the moment no rain. Everyone is watering their gardens. I think I have more weeds than grass. It is what it is. After I finish this post I am weeding. It is cloudy in Rehoboth Beach, but warm which is great.

When I first got these beaches in the mid 70’s at times it was hard to get certain things. Now there is plenty. Friends of mine still think there are not enough good women’s clothing stores here but what the heck there is the internet. And it is all sent to Delaware tax free.

Last weekend it was the last day we were going to cook lamb. A whole leg of lamb, bone in. If you are looking for lamb, Hockers in Ocean View, DE, near Bethany has the best lamb. They get it twice per week. Some people think the taste of lamb is not to their liking. I love it. Well seasoned, lots of garlic, lots of veggies around it. And, plenty of leftovers the next day.

The table. I like to entertain year-round and the virus did not stop me either. You wonder why I am showing you this photo. But, just give me a minute, will you?

The plates were made by Master Potter Sabie Carey. My first plates were made 20 years ago. They are oversized which is what I wanted.

These ones were made this year

Sabieware Pottery is located in Clarksville, about 3 miles or so west of Bethany Beach. I wrote a post right here about her workshop. All you have to do is put on the search Sabieware and you can check it out. You can order from her but she also has some of her things on display and for sale.

On that same table instead of flowers I have the life time candles I found at the Penny Lane in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. The name of the store is called Sea Finds on 42 Rehoboth Ave., Unit 10. I fell in love with them. They are made in Arkansas and Sea Finds is the only place that sells them in the area.

It is an oil burning candle with no odor or smoke. All handmade. Different sizes and varieties. Wicks never need to be replaced. They are perfect for your home or for gifts.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement don’t you think?

So if you are visiting check these local places for your next shopping adventure.

Have a great Sunday.

Henlopen City Oyster House, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Dine-In, Curbside PickUp, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Henlopen City Oyster House is located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware at 50 Wilmington Avenue. It is one of the few restaurants that, at this time of the year, are open for lunch and dinner. It closes on Tuesdays.

Website? http://www.hcoysterhouse.com

We sat at the oyster bar. Perfect seating watching the guys shucking oysters. We had 3 varieties….the saltier the better in my book.

You see that glass of wine there? We asked for a suggestion of what would pair well with the oysters. It was called Barbara Ohlzelt and it is a Gruner Veltliner type of wine from Austria. It was perfection with our oysters and seafood choices.

A New England Clam Chowder was ordered. It had plenty of clams, smoked bacon, potatoes and veggies. Look how good it looked.

Up and down the beaches I have my favorite restaurants for a particular food. Henlopen City Oyster House is a favorite of mine for scallops. Any which way they fix them, I love them. Always perfectly cooked. So my choice last night was Seared Massachusetts Scallops with saffron migas, tangerine-meyer lemon emulsion, butternut squash, and sage and speck. Speck is a pork fat with or without some meat in it. It is sort of a type of prosciutto. My review? Excellent!!

I usually rave about the grilled octopus in another local restaurant in town. So I was very excited when the Grilled Octopus was order at Henlopen City Oyster House. I tasted a little bite and it was up there with my other favorite one. Tender and very well seasoned. Braised in red wine, with bay water purple sweet potatoes, bravas sauce, crispy capers, olive oil and parsley. Both the octopus and the clam chowder were appetizers that were ordered as a main entree.

Even through a Pandemic, Rehoboth Beach continues to be a foodie’s destination with our restaurants offering really good food. There is something for everyone in this town.

AboutMyBeaches has a Facebook Page. Leave me a message will you?
