Crystal Restaurant, Locals’ Hangout, Breakfast & Lunch, Full Bar, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches….Open on New Year’s Day!!

dscn0833

This post is for my friends that “hangout” at Crystal every time we get the chance.  A little displaced, we are, at this time of the year.  But, every time they are in my thoughts when I eat at Crystal.  They know who they are.

Crystal is located at 37300 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-1088.  It was my last breakfast of 2012.  Since my friends were not here to join me, I brought second best; my two sons.

Crystal was totally packed.  Visitors and locals making a special breakfast morning something to be remembered.  Great weather too!!

I had to be fast with my camera.  We chose the following.

Crab Benedict, using crab meat instead of Canadian Bacon.  This dish is packed with crab meat.  It is always served with that tiny steak knife.  Too funny!

A Norwegian Benedict, using smoked salmon instead of Canadian Bacon.  It was a huge portion….a little doggy bag for later on.

dscn0828

French Toast was my choice.  I have not had it in a long time.  It’s a good one at Crystal!!

dscn0831

Never fails; well done scrapple.  Sorry, but I do love it.

dscn0832

A side order of Creamed Chip Beef for the table almost did us in.

A perfect breakfast….enjoying the holidays in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware!!

Note:  Crystal serves breakfast and lunch.  Breakfast sandwiches, cereal, side orders, eggs, omelettes, a kids’ corner, salads, grilled sandwiches, specialty burgers, sandwiches….and on and on.

Happy New Year’s!!

Then, Along Came Sandy…Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches

dscn9339

What happened?  Not enough treats; we had to pick a trick?  What a way to finish what started a beautiful week-end in Rehoboth Beach.

By now the whole nation and beyond know that Rehoboth Beach is located in the state of Delaware and not in North Carolina.  Our residents, using social media did not keep quiet.

I don’t know if we have been too complacent, but I decided to go and visit downtown Rehoboth Beach this morning.  I wanted to see how this town was reacting to such an impending weather system.

I decided to go to Cullen Street.  This street is in Dewey Beach, right before entering Rehoboth Beach.  What a surprised I got!  The water, the waves, and the foam took me by surprise.  Did not expect this scene at all. Scary, really.

My next stop was going to be Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach.  This is a waterfowl sanctuary.  Silver Lake, along with Lake Comegys and Lake Gerar, is one of the 3 fresh water lakes closest to the ocean than anywhere in the country.  During the bird migration this is a place of rest for these birds on their long journey.  The homes you see on this picture has the best advantage; ocean front and the lake, as well.

Rehoboth Avenue was crowded.  I guess our visitors had decided to spend the day afterall.  Sea Witch festivities were cancelled for today. Practically everyone had a camera on hand.  People were walking on the Boardwalk and yes, Dolles was opened, among other restaurants.

dscn9286

Again, I was amazed to see the water so close to the edge of the Boardwalk.  The storm was not even here.  What would happen then?  Those waves were gigantic; the sea foam was everywhere.

The Waves!!

You could tell merchants were now on high gear. The City of Rehoboth Beach was picking up all the white benches.

If you cannot fight them, you join them.  That’s exactly what I did as I went into Crystal for brunch.  Crystal Restaurant is a local’s hangout; visitors love it just as much.  It was full.  Never in a hundred years you would have thought that a storm was coming our way.

Check my Spanish Omelet.  Their portions are so big.

dscn9322

And, of course, I had to have scrapple.  Crispy and well done it was.  Believe me I did not ask for the home fries; they just brought them to me.

dscn9324

I was going to go back home immediately, but I had one more stop.  I drove towards the north side of town, just north of the Boardwalk.  There they were!!  At a distance the WWII Towers stood tall and taking it all in.  They have watched these beaches for so many years, checking for submarines out at sea and now I hope they protect us from Sandy, the perfect storm.

dscn9308

On a good day, and closer to them, this summer, this is what they looked like.

I guess I’ll be talking to you later…be safe.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Crystal Restaurant, The Locals and Natives are Out on The Second Season, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches

dscn7684

Crystal has been in Rehoboth for so many years.  During the season it also opens for dinner.  Usually, my group of usual suspects go there for breakfast.  We celebrate anything…birthdays, moving away, you name it…it’s great.  All kinds of breakfast items.  They do offer lunch; try the burger next time.

Crystal is located at 620 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-1088.  During the summer months, you can expect to wait; they open every day.  There is a full bar.  Today, on a gorgeous September day, my son and I decided to stop by.  It was so funny to see the locals, and natives already enjoying the Second Season in Rehoboth Beach.

My son orders the Crab Imperial Eggs Benedict every time.  Today was no different.  OMG…look at the picture.  It had so much crab; smothered in Hollandaise sauce.  A sprinkle of Old Bay, that’s all you need, and you are good to go.  The home fries are pretty good too.  The Crab Egg Benedict is always consistent, served with that much crabmeat.

dscn7682

I really wanted to have Chipped Beef on Toast.  This dish, just like all the dishes at Crystal, is big.  Our server told me that it was, particularly, good today.  No, I can’t do that.  So, instead I decided to have this tiny yogurt, granola, nuts, blueberries and even honey.  But, wait a minute….I am not finished.  I also had a side order of Scrapple, extra crispy.  What a combination!!  I confess, I ate it all.  Now, I feel better.  No more guilt!!

dscn7681

I hope my Scrapple friends, Missy and Jim see the Scrapple.  It was perfectly cooked.

dscn7683

Talk to you later….you know I will.

Note:  What was I thinking?  I could have had that chipped beef!!

Breakfast at Crystal’s, Rehoboth Beach, Start New Year’s with a Hearty Breakfast, Delaware Beaches

dscn1271

This Holiday Season has been a beautiful one in Rehoboth Beach.  Last year it seemed that all we did was dig ourselves from one winter storm after another; this year?  Walks on the beach, fairly warm for the time of the year.  So many visitors.

Rehoboth has a great Boardwalk, perfect for early morning walks.  Just this week we enjoyed such a walk, right after Christmas.  Just make sure that you do just like the locals and natives do; touch either end of the Boardwalk.  Don’t ask me why; an accomplishment perhaps?

If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach and are looking for a breakfast hangout with some good home cooking, then, Crystal would be the perfect choice.  It is located at 620 Rehoboth Ave.  Tel. 302-227-1088.  They serve breakfast all day long, among other things.  Full bar, as well.

So, after eating, so much for Christmas Eve, Christmas morning…my kitchen was then closed.

Crystal was our choice.  The restaurant is simple and the service is great.  Everyone was hungry and this is what they ordered.

Eggs Benedict with Crab …. it was overflowing with crabmeat.  There were sides of home cooked fries and bacon.

dscn1280

dscn1285

A Spanish Omelette …. a large portion with plenty of Spanish sauce.

dscn1281

Eggs Benedict Florentine …. another well received breakfast.

dscn1282

Traditional fried eggs …. my sister in law thought they were delicious.

dscn1283

Then, I did not know what to order.  I am never that crazy about breakfast.  I was still full from the night before.  But, I ordered granola with Greek yogurt and fruit.  It was a large bowl but I loved it.  The granola had it sweetness; the Greek yogurt was perfect.  The fruit was delicious; I felt healthier.

dscn1287

I then stopped our server and asked her to bring me a side order of scrapple, well done; crispy.  It really was so good.  Not a great combination of foods but it hit the spot.

dscn1288

On New Year’s Day as you wake up and think of some of the absurdities of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, this might be the place for you.

Have a Good One!!  Talk to you later.
