dscn7445

Do you remember when it used to be called The Wellness Community Delaware?  Well, that name has been changed and it is now called Cancer Support Community Delaware.   The Mission?  That has stayed the same; to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.  Cancer Support Community Delaware is the only organization in Delaware dedicated exclusively to helping people cope with and manage the emotional aspect of cancer.  They also focus on the cancer participants’ family and/or caregivers, including children and teenagers.

Cancer Support Community Delaware’ s programs are professionally led and provide emotional support, education and hope.  All programs are free of charge.  Funds raised in Sussex County stay here, in Sussex County, to help our neighbors.

There is a Countdown to the 2nd Annual Wings of Hope – A Butterfly Release, to benefit the Cancer Support Community Delaware.  It is going to be on Saturday, 9/15.  Rain date is Sunday, 9/16.  The event will be held at the Medical Arts Building, 18947 John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24) in Rehoboth Beach, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Admission is free and everyone is invited and welcomed.  The event will include activities, entertainment, vendors, and refreshments.

Seeded butterfly cutouts ($10) will be available for purchase as well as the opportunity to release your own live butterfly ($25 – only 50 available, advance purchase suggested).  The event culminates in a butterfly garden created by Sposato Landscape with the release of 250 live Monarch butterflies.  For more info., please visit http://www.cancersupportdelaware.org/wingsofhope.

The 2nd Annual Wings of Hope is sponsored by WBOC-TV, Delmarva Broadcasting – Cool 101.3 and Eagle 97.7, Cape Gazette, Tunnell Cancer Center, Jack Lingo Realtor and Grotto Pizza.

I don’t think there is anyone that has not been touched by cancer.  Having friends going through treatments at this moment, makes this kind of fundraising event more personal.

It is official, the name of The Wellness Community of Delaware has been changed to Cancer Support Community Delaware.  You know how it is; it takes some time for the new name to take so for the purposes of this post it can still be called The Wellness Community of Delaware.

Of course, their mission is most important.  “It is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community”

All programs are free of charge.  For more information, please visit http://www.wellnessdelaware.org.

Their location, in our Delaware Beaches, is on the Beebe Health Campus on Rt. 24 (John J. Williams Highway) in the Medical Arts Building.
