The town of Rehoboth Beach was incorporated in 1873. It was to be a Christian Seaside Resort. But, by 1878 the railroad was extended to Rehoboth Beach, bringing visitors and businesses to the area. A mile long award-winning boardwalk provides the tourists and the residents opportunities for walking, and jogging practically at the water’s edge. Through the years Rehoboth Beach has changed, but it has also kept its charm as a seaside resort where every summer memories are made. It has come a long way. It is a dining destination with so many of its chefs outdoing one another in friendly competition. Entertainment, the arts, tax free shopping and the beach….yes, it is so nice living at the beach and I do not take it for granted.

Saturdays, until August 29th – Delaware Comedy Theatre is performing every Saturday at 10:00 p.m. at Clear Space Theatre located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Thursday, 8/20 – The 2015 Cinema By the Surf Summer Outdoor Film Series concludes with the animated film; “Mr. Peabody and Sherman”, starting at dusk (8:15-8:30 p.m.) at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. The exceptionally brillian Mr. Peabody, who happens to be a dog, and his adopted son Sherman travel through time using Peabody’s ingenious invention, the WABAC machine. It is free to the public. Sunday, 8/23 – Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company’s 1st Fire Fightin’ 5K Run & Walk – This fundrasing event will benefit The Capital Campaign Station 2 Building Fund. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., along with Tim Bamforth, Seashore Striders Event Production, Inc. are managing the event. The out and back course will start at the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., Station 1 located at 219 Rehoboth Avenue, and will travel from Station 1 west on Rehoboth Ave., through the beautiful north side of Rehoboth Beach to the Boardwalk. The course will turn around on the Boardwalk then return to Station 1 where it will end. The post-race party will take place at Lula Brazil Restaurant at 234 Rehoboth Ave. The 1st Fire Fightin’ 5K Run & Walk will feature a great Tech t-shirt, custome designed medals, a fun post -race party and plenty of competitive racing and fun. Monday, 9/21 – Village Improvement Association (VIA) 17th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit local charities. It will be at The Peninsula. The tournament will feature prizes for men, women and mixed groups, the longest drive, closest to the pin and other categories. Preston Motor Boulevard will offer a car as the prize for the “hole in one” contest. There will also be door prizes and raffles.

The best part of the Second Season is that it is a little quieter…..except this week-end when bikers riding towards Ocean City, Maryland were endless…it is Bike Week in O.C. Here in Rehoboth Beach we are having a busy Saturday.

2014 REHOBOTH BEACH WALK TO DEFEAT ALS – Registration begins on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m. on the Boardwalk in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Distance will be 2 miles. PLAYTIME AT THE BEACH – DOGFRIENDLY HAPPY HOUR – THE PURPLE PARROT GRILL, Bier Garten from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m Location? 134 Rehoboth Avenue. Meet and ming with other animal lovers who support Delaware Humane Association. Local restaurants and bars in Rehoboth host a series of “doggy happy hours” from May through October each year. Dogs are welcome at each venue but must be on a leash. A portion of the proceeds from each happy hour will be donated to the Delaware Humane Association. Next one will be on Saturday, October 11th from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Seafood Shack on Baltimore Ave.

4th ANNUAL WINGS OF HOPE KICK-OFF
Today, Wednesday, the 13th of August is the official kick off date for the 4th Annual Wings of Hope…the Campaing of Hope. This prelude to the much anticipated Butterfly Release that will be taking place on Saturday, September 13th.
Businesses and organizations throughout Sussex County will be selling seeded paper buterflies to honor friends and loved ones impacted by cancer.
Epworth United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church, All Saints’ Church, Dimitra Yoga, Rehoboth Beach Public Library, Tomato Sunshine and Surf Bagel are just a few of the locations selling butterflies.
Beauties and Butterflies — Salons Suporting Cancer Support Community Delaware chaired by Drexel Davison of Bad Hair Day? includes over a dozen beauty salons participating in the Wings of Hope by selling butterflies. Thousands of paper butterflies will be displayed at the Wings of Hope – A Butterfly Release on 9/13 on the grounds of the Medical Arts Building at the Beebe Health Campus on Rt. 24 in Rehoboth Beach.
This very special celebration of life is highlighted with the release of 250 live Monarch butterflies in recognition of Sussex County friends and neighbors impacted by cancer. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the admission is free. The event will also feature vendors, demos, refreshments, and children’s activities.

Did you know that the Horseshoe Crab is Delaware’s official State Marine Animal? Delaware, (the first State), is the first state to have an official marine animal.
It’s a beautiful week-end…if you are visiting the First Town in the First State this is what’s going on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
