I look out the window and it looks sunny…..but I don’t kid myself. It is chilly and windy. Oh, well it is that time of the year. Second Season at the DE Beaches is great. So, what are you up to? Or, better yet, what would you like to do? Here are a few of my picks.

HIKING THOMPSON ISLAND – Starting your Saturday, November 22nd hiking Thompson Island Nature Preserve with a park interpreter at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Lean about the island’s Native American presence and observe the abundant wildlife that calls this island home. REHOBOTH BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY – FALL LUNCHEON – It will be held at Kings Creek Country Club on Saturday, November 22nd. Cash bar starts at 11 a.m. and the luncheon buffet will begin at 11:30. The cost is $30 for members and $34 for non-members. For reservations, please call 302-227-7310. Dennis Forney, Cape Gazette Publisher will take the audience on a visually descriptive ride of his cross country bicycle trip in 2013. From “Sea to Shining Sea”. He wrote pieces for the Cape Gazette on his travels. The trip began May 10th and after many miles , Mr. Forney decided that America’s looking friendly and beautiful!!

THE METROPOLITAN OPERA LIVE IN HD – IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at Cape Henlopen High School Theater in Lewes, Delaware. The opera will begin at 12:55 p.m. Admission: $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, 65 years of age and over or Rehoboth Beach Film Society members, and MET members, as well. $15 for students with I.D., $15 for a child, 12 years of age and under. FESTIVAL OF TREES AT BAYWOOD GREENS – Saturday, November 22nd, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. This is fun and festive fund raising event to benefit Delaware Hospice. Baywood Greens will be beautifully decorated, showcasing the creations of area decorators. An exciting menu of contemporary American fare awaits you. Entertainment will be provided by Keith Mack, a native of Rehoboth Beach. $75/person. “THANKSLIVING” DINNER – Cilantro Restaurant located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach is offering a 3-course, sit-down meal which will featured seasonal food creatively prepared by local chefs. Sunday, November 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. The garden meat-free Turkey Roast will be provided by VegRehoboth. You may purchase tickets at Good Earth Market located at 38121 Terrace Rd.
THANKSGIVING GABBY GOBBLE 5k – Thursday, November 27th at Irish Eyes Pub, 213 Anglers Rd. in Lewes. It is the first year for this event and proceeds from the race will go to the Get Well Gabby Foundation. This foundation started in honor and memory of Gabriella Vogel, who was a valiant fighter of childhood cancer, but passed away at the age of 5. Her family and the foundation have pledged $125,000 to the A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children to build and furnish a playroom in the new oncology department in Wilmington. They have also collected 14,000 new books and donated them to the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Hershey Medical Center. This course is USATF certified with chip timing. Entrants receive long-sleeved T-shirts and awards will go to the top 3 male and female finishers in 10-year age categories, 9 and under to 70 and over and to top fundraisers. The post-race party includes beer for participants over 21 years of age. Race participants are encouraged to wear festive costumes and enjoy Turkey Day!! Registration is availabe online at http://www.races2run.com for $25 until Noon, Monday, 11/14, or at the Rehoboth Beach Running Company. Packet pickup and late registration will be then at Irish Eyes in Lewes for $30 from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th. And, in case you decide to run on the day of….registration can also be done on the day of the event. Additional donations are greately appreciated to the Get Well Gabby website above mentioned. This foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Location, location, location….Tanger Outlets….open so early on Sunday a.m.? Seaside Outlet Drive in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was so crowded. It was an event that is so dear to many residents and visitors. Racing or walking for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. In its 5th year, it brought record crowds. The host? Tanger Outlets.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition …”It is the only organization in the state of Delaware focused solely on breast health issues as they afflict the women and men who live here.” To know more about this organization, please visit http://www.debreastcancer.org.
DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run? Walk is an event for all ages. Participants can choose to take part in a timed 5K Run, a 5K Walk, or a 1-Mile Fun Walk. It is held rain or shine. Some came in teams and others just hugged as they considered themselves survivors!
All proceeds benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in our local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.
They were ready….the music was getting all in attendance pumped.
Then I saw the object flying over my head; don’t think a lot of people noticed….a drone, handled by a gentlemen who was volunteering for the event. Up to the minute images would be captured.
The food tent was getting ready for a huge post race party with beer and wine garden, and a coffee bar.
DE-Feet Breast Cancer Run/Walk will be back next year. The Delaware Beaches is a great place to fundraise….it is a destination!

TUESDAY, 12/31 – 11TH RACE INTO THE NEW YEAR 5k & YOUTH 1/4 MILE MINI RUN – NOON – Rain, Snow, or Shine – Join Seashore Striders and Rehoboth Beach Running Company for a run followed by pancakes!! This race is sponsored by Rehoboth Beach Running Company and produced by the Seashore Striders Event Productions, Inc. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the day of race. 11:55 a.m 1/4 mile run for kids, Noon a 5K run. The awards will be presented at RBRC and Catchers. REHOBOTH BEACH MUSEUM HOSTS FOURTH ANNUAL NEEDLEWORK EXHIBIT – The exhibit will be on display March 15, 2014 through May 11, 2014 at the Rehoboth Beach Museum, located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue. I know that needleworkers need time to complete their pieces and the winter is a great time to complete the projects. This year, stitchers can choose to enter to be judged or just for fun. A nationally certified judge will award ribbons to those who wish to have their work judged, and a Best in Show across all categories will be awarded. All entries will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award, voted on by visitors to the exhibit. Fees for entering the show are $5 for each entry for members of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society. Fee for non-members is $10 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. A maximum of 5 entries is allowed. Entries can be dropped off between February 28th and March 10th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on week-ends.
Programs will be held in conjuction with the exhibit, including a presentation on Amish quilts.

Looking for something to do in Rehoboth Beach besides shopping on the last day of the Spring Sidewalk Sales? So, What’s Going On?
Sunday, 5 /19 – 4th Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk at the Tanger Outlet Center, Rehoboth Beach, Seaside, at 36470 Seaside Outlet Drive. Time? 8:00 a.m. Join the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition for this event….rain or shine! It will include a 5K run and walk as well as a 1-Mile Fun Walk. Run/Walk kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with registration opening at 7 a.m. You can still register online by visiting http://www.debreastcancer.org, click on events and scroll down to the date.
Funland will be opening on Sunday games and rides at 1 p.m. Located on the south side of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. I know those kids will be driving you crazy if it rains.
Playland is also opening on Sunday…located on the south side of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.
And so is Beach Arcade on the north side of the Boardwalk, next to Dolle’s.
Sunday, 5/19 – Last Performance at 3:00 p.m. – 9 to 5: The Musical – Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton, Book by Patricia Resnick. All of the madcap hilarity of the movie is intact, intertwined with Dolly Parton’s score that is part Broadway and part pop, a little bit country, and all toe-tapping fun!
