Out & About, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, Week-Ends at The Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn2054

Looking out the window, I am wondering what the heck happened to the sun?  It was so gorgeous on Sunday at the beaches, that I called my neighbor and asked her if she wanted to take a walk around Rehoboth Beach.

dscn2045

Rehoboth Beach is a great town to walk. The Boardwalk is award-winning and the iconic benches line this popular boardwalk just in case you want to relax and people watch.  Sunday was one of those days that even though it was a bit cool, the beaches were packed.  Some were at the water’s edge with sweaters, some were shopping, others were just enjoying one beautiful day.  And others decided to just eat and have something to drink.

dscn2048

The Greyhounds stayed in Dewey but they also made the rounds in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  At least they had one good sunny day this week-end.

dscn2046

dscn2047

Walking through The Pines, a neighborhood, between Downtown Rehoboth Beach and Henlopen Acres, we stopped to check out 2 Open Houses.  One new construction and the other one a house that had been built in the 1940s and was still owned by the family.  We got a bird’s eye view from the top of this house, whose “upper deck” was a later addition.

dscn2049

On our walk we stopped at Anita Peghini-Raber Gallery.  It is located at 49 Baltimore Avenue.  Anita is an expressionist; she is also self-taught.  Website?  http://www.rehobothart.com.

dscn2053

What’s Happening at the gallery?

dscn2051

Oriental Dance with Viviana on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.  $10 donation at the door.

Tango de Arte takes place the last Saturday of the month.  A free class from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. From 9 p.m. dance until……late.  Please visit http://www.tangolewes.com.

dscn2052

These events are well attended and they tell me that they are so much fun!!

Hungry and late in the afternoon we decided to stop at Semra’s Mediterranean Grill.  It is located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue.  John and Semra are the owners and they are always at the restaurant.  I cannot say enough about their cuisine.  Everything is made in house. Website?  http://www.semras.com.  Tel. 302-727-5964.  Sema’s is on Facebook.  Watch for Belly Dancing Events coming up in the months to come.

You know, it is really interesting, because I can say that I can make a Mousaka, but when Mousaka is served at Semra’s it takes your palate to a different dimension.  Their spices are sent by relatives and the taste is delicate, with dishes perfectly seasoned.

dscn2055

My dish was traditional from Semra’s city in Turkey…..except I forgot if it was called Manti, Monti…hopefully she will correct me.  It was light, and Semra’s described it that way.  Ground lamb with amazing spices and with just a hint of heat, topped with tzatziki (yogurt) sauce.

dscn2057

Off we went back to our car….Lucky to live at the beach and never take it for granted.  Have a great day!!

Rehoboth Beach Eats, Semra’s, Mediterranean Grill, Middle Eastern Veggies, Lamb, Chicken, Grains, Homemade Yogurt, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches…Lovers of Homemade & Robust Foods, Fresh Ingredients, Sophisticated Combinations

dscn5692

Semra grew up in Turkey, and John, her husband, is Turkish but grew up in the United States.  Together they have Semra’s Mediterranean Grill located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, just steps off the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.  Tel. 302-226-4976.  Website? http://www.semras.com.

John will be the first one to tell you that he is just a helper, that Semra does all the cooking.  Soft spoken and very happy to see that the restaurant that they started not too long ago is prospering and becoming a favorite or many locals and visitors alike.

A counter for take out is right by the door, then a more casual dining area for eating.  Their formal dining room is being remodeled and a bar is being added to the casual dining room, as well.

dscn5691

My friend, Chris, and I decided that an early dinner in Rehoboth Beach would be the thing to do on Sunday evening.  We chose Semra’s and glad we did.  This was not my first time at Semra’s.  This restaurant participates in the Eating Rehoboth food tours.  More info?  Check http://www.eatingrehoboth.com.

Semra showed us our booth and looking at the menu I could not make up my mind.

dscn5684

Chris had the Lamb Shish Kabob, which had one skewer of char-grilled marinated lamb cubes served over a salad.  Chris said the salad was great with a delicious dressing.

dscn5685

I had the Grilled Kofte which had patties of char-grilled lamb and beef with Turkish herbs and spices served over rice, yogurt, pita bread and veggies.

dscn5689

My patties were very moist.  Semra mentioned that the combination is mostly lamb with maybe 20% beef.

Semra’s family sends her red crushed pepper from Turkey.  You would think it would be so spicy but it wasn’t.  It actually added a mild kick to the food.  Very good.

dscn5690

The food was so fresh and settled perfectly.  We were comfortably satisfied.

Check their website or Facebook Page.  Entertainment at Semra’s includes belly dancing.  They will be putting those event as dates become available.

Have a good One!!

Eating Rehoboth, Food Tours of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Walking, Tasting, Sipping, Wine, Beer, Cultural Tours, Southern Delaware

dscn4042

It is true when they say that if you have a passion for what you do, then, you will never work a day in your life…I found that to be true when I toured the Rehoboth Beach restaurants with Eating Rehoboth….the new walking food, wine, beer and cultural tours that just started in the month of May.  Already, a must do, when visiting the Nation’s Summer Capital.

Eating Rehoboth meets either at Hotel Rehoboth on Rehoboth Avenue or at The Bellmoor Inn and Spa on Christian Street.  You can book your tours, always through the website, http://www.eatingrehoboth.com.  Tours start at 1 p.m.  You can book the tours as late as 11 a.m. on the day of the tour.  They take up to 16 people on each tour.  Please do check the website for additional info. and for questions you may have.  Please note that they do have gift certificates and private tours, as well.

The restaurants you will visit will be a total surprise.  Just go with the flow and enjoy the experience.  It’s a lot of fun!

So my post begins with my arrival at The Bellmoor Inn and Spa located at 6 Christian Street.  Tel. 302-227-5800.  Website?  http://www.thebellmoor.com.  This is a beautiful hotel in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  A great location; walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants.

dscn3973

A little welcoming reception with Paul Cullen wines.  We were waiting for all to arrive.  This was a fun group.  Eclectic, outgoing, and ready to eat!

dscn3977

Our tour guide was going to be Dave McCormick and in not time we were out the door.  But, we all burst out laughing when Dave brought out the “placard”.  When have you seen such a thing in Rehoboth Beach?  There is no way we would get lost.  Believe me, this is a true tour…placard and all.

dscn3992dscn3991

So, off we went to MARIACHI. This Latin restaurant is located on 14 Wilmington Avenue.  Yolanda is the owner and as usual she received us with a smile.  Tel. 302-227-0115.  Website?  http://www.mariachirehobothde.com.

dscn3990

And with Margaritas!!

dscn3982

Then, chips and homemade salsa, papusas from Salvador, and the ever present plantains, a staple in Latin cooking.

dscn3981

dscn3984

dscn3987

Yolanda gave us a tour of Mariachi and we thanked her for her hospitality.

Off to CONFUCIUS, located at 57 Wilmington Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-3848.  Website?  http://www.confuciusrehobothbeach.com.  Shawn has taken his Chinese cuisine to a different level.  It is not your usual “Chinese” restaurant.  His food is delicious and his wine list is awesome.

dscn3996

dscn3993

He received us with wine, his amazing green beans, tofu, and steamed dumplings.  As usual, Shawn made his customers feel at home.

dscn3995

dscn4002

Next stop was KILWINS, located at 140 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-3611.  Website?  http://www.kilwins.com/rehobothbeach.  This was the perfect stop at this time of our tour.  A time to “cleanse” our palate.  Sarah Ratzel, Manager, received us with open arms.  She took the time to explain step by step what they do and offer at Kilwins.

dscn4011

Their fudge is amazing and plenty of it is gluten free!  Same with the ice cream.  A top seller at the store is the Sea-Salt Caramel.  I resisted the fudge, the turtle, but no way I could resist the ice cream.  True, this Sea-Salt Caramel is outstanding.  Sarah told us that the ice cream is made at Kilwins in Michigan.

We thanked everyone and took off again, but not before one last tasting…..

dscn4018

Dave was really having fun and steered us in the right direction towards SEMRA’S, the new Mediterranean Grill.

dscn4022dscn4023

SEMRA’S is fairly new in town and is located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-226-4976.  Website?  http://www.semras.com.  Please check the website because they do have entertainment on some week-ends…belly dancer!

dscn4032

As you step into the restaurant the take out counter will be on your left, but the dining room is at the back of the restaurant.

dscn4026

dscn4029

We were served a delicious tea and a mini lamb and chicken shish kabob.  Moist and perfectly seasoned.  We all loved it!

dscn4030

It was a beautiful day in Rehoboth Beach and the beach was crowded.  We continued on our Eating Rehoboth tour towards the Boardwalk Plaza, where their restaurant, Victoria’s, was waiting for us.

dscn4034

dscn4051

The Boardwalk Plaza is located at Olive Avenue and The Boardwalk. Victoria’s is their restaurant. They offer oceanfront dining…and at times there is entertainment, as well.  It is a great place to watch a full moon.  Tel. 302-227-0615.  Website?  http://www.boardwalkplaza.com.

dscn4038

A Signature Margarita was served.

dscn4045

The Chef gave us a description of our tasting.

dscn4047

The baked oysters were outstanding!!

dscn4049

Our final destination was a(muse.)  This restaurant is located at 44 Baltimore Ave.  Tel. 302-227-7107.  Website?  http://www.amuse-rehoboth.com.  Hari Cameron is the Chef and Owner.  Rehoboth Beach has developed into a dining destination.  The chefs are unique, their presentations are daring and for all of us that like to try and taste morsels of delicious food…it is priceless!  Rehoboth Beach had 3 chefs nominated for the James Beard award.  Hari was one of them.

dscn4054

dscn4093

We were going to be eating on the side porch, which is a fun place to eat, more so when the weather is nice.

dscn4058

dscn4056

The moment you meet him, you can see that he loves what he does.  Not only is he a well respected chef, but, he is also an excellent teacher.  His presentation of his dishes were very detailed and impressing.

A glass of tamarind juice with I believe, tequila.

dscn4059

A tasting of Quinoa.

dscn4062

Hari decided to make fresh mozzarella…very effortless, I may add.

dscn4071dscn4074

dscn4076

Next course was salmon…just a tasting to keep you wanting more.

dscn4077

And, then, he proceeded to make a pineapple sorbet using liquid nitrogen.

dscn4086

dscn4083

dscn4089

dscn4090

a(muse.) has many dining options…tasting menus, late night menu, classes and private tastings, as well.  Chek their website for more information.

And, then, it was time to go home.  It has been almost 2 weeks since I went on the tour.  It was perfectly planned with the restaurants all being so different.  If you like to eat, then, you will love Eating Rehoboth!!
