The Grove Market, Smokehouse, Eatery, Bishopville, Maryland, Restaurant, Review, Good Food? Will Travel

img_3249

I really don’t mind driving distances to go to a good and unique restaurant.  I do mind waiting in line to get into a restaurant, though.  And with that in mind my husband and I went to meet Ross and Cindi at The Grove Market in Bishopville, Maryland.

The Grove Market is at 12402 St. Martins Neck Rd., Bishopville, MD 21813.  Tel. 410-352-5055.  No website.  And, if you are planning on having dinner there, bring cash or check.  No credit cards are accepted.

That being said and done, the next step is you have to go through the process of getting a reservation.  All you have to do is call.  But don’t expect to get a reservation that pronto.  Well, maybe, if you are lucky or have a good friend like I do.  Even though I think Leslie, the owner, knows me now.  When you call, leave your request and I would even leave a second choice for time and day.

The Grove Market is very small, and so popular.  Be patient.  I have written a couple of times about it and questioned if it has been worth going through the “ordeal” of making the reservation.  Every time the answer is, Yes!!  It is that good.

This was their opening week-end for the new season.  From Rehoboth Beach it takes about 45 minutes.  Go Ocean Highway until the Rt. 90 Bridge.  Take that exit and continue to the next light.  Turn right on St. Martins Neck Rd. and continue driving for about 1 1/2 miles.  It is on the left hand side of the road.  A tiny little place.  Check the picture so that you can remember it.

img_3247

It was packed, but Leslie moved her patrons quickly.  Don’t expect to stay there forever.

The Grove Market looked good; all spruced up for the season but always keeping that look that makes it so unique.

I was so happy to see that John McDonald was at the helm of the tiny kitchen.  He is a fantastic chef.

img_3250

We were seated in the back room which I really like; only 3 tables and backyard view.  It is funky.  There were lights and signs and, wow, also flowers on the table.  Yes, the tables are plastic, and the tablecloths are faded.  That is why you go there; so different, but the food is the icing on the cake.

img_3252

img_3253

In the back dining room, your waiter will take your order for beer or wine.  Bottled water is available, as well.

Then, the waiter will announce the appetizers.  There is no written menu, did I tell you that?  Everything is from memory.  Plenty of appetizers for the size of the restaurant.  I could not copy one thing down so bear with me and check the pictures.

img_3258

I chose the clams in a very well seasoned broth.  Thank God they brought a spoon.  All gone, it was.

img_3257

My husband chose the mussels.  I was surprised because he never orders them.  I am the one that loves them.  Just as good as my clams.

img_3256

Cindi had the soup.  This was a beet and tomato soup.  The color was just beautiful.

img_3254

Ross had the beef kabobs.  The rind of the orange and the combination of seasonings were tremendous; so tender.

img_3255

Soon we were ready for the main event.  And this is how it went.

I ordered the lamb.  I wish I could remember everything he said.  The lamb was a very big portion.  It had chutney and raisins; a little Indian, maybe?   A little sweet and tangy. I could not eat it all.  Served with a breadstick, which is the recipe that was used many years ago when they had pizza.

img_3262

My husband ordered the scallops with risotto and asparagus.  I have had them; very good, as well.

img_3265

Cindi ordered the shrimp.  She was a happy camper.

img_3264

And, Ross orders the same thing every single time.  The Duck.  Well, he gave me a piece and I can now see why.  It was crispy and the sauce was tremendous; a semi sweet soy drizzle with an English cumberland sauce.  I will have it next time.

 img_3263

No room for dessert, except Ross ordered the chocolate pie.  He asked for extra forks but he only gave me a bite.  Smooth texture; if you like chocolate, order it.

img_3267

I am going to have to take a notebook next time to write the ingredients down. What happened was that between the talking and more bla bla bla, then, hello?  It was over.  You got the idea, though.

Please note:  The Grove Market is sensitive to customers with food related allergies.

Since I started this blog almost 2 years ago I can tell you that the majority of the time I have had good meals; but also some lukewarms, as well.  I give the benefit of the doubt and go again. Everyone can have a bad night.  It is when those bad nights are consistent; then there is a problem.  I guess I have been lucky or easy to please.

Sharing a meal with friends is something else…I love it!!

Talk to you later….you know I will…

Matt’s Fish Camp, Fresh Seafood, North Bethany, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches, Opening Thursday, 4/21

img_3235

I needed to write this post last night while my taste buds were still remembering the delicious meal I had just enjoyed.

I experienced at Matt’s Fish Camp a great quality of ingredients, a culinary competence, a very good service and a relaxing and casual ambiance.

Matt’s Fish Camp had soft openings a few nights this week.  Officially, this new restaurant is opening on Thursday, April 21st.  They will open 7 days a week with lunch and dinner by Memorial Week-End.   At present, they are opening at 4:00 p.m., Wednesdays to Fridays, and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

img_3195

Location?  South of Indian River Bridge, in North Bethany at Tower Shores.  Tel. is 302-539-CAMP.  Website?  www.mattsfishcamp.com.

img_3193

Matt’s Fish Camp is the newest addition of already very well-known and successful restaurants from Lewes to Fenwick Island, Delaware, owned by Sodel Concepts.  To find out more info. about all their restaurants and catering services, please visit http://www.sodelconcepts.com.

It is just the type of restaurant that captures the essence of coastal dining; the ocean on one side, the bay on the other.   Local favorites serving the freshest catch of the day.  Just like the fish camps in the south.

On the right side of the building there are picnic tables where you can enjoy your carry out.

img_3197

In the inside, a little music in the background, bar tables on one side; you can check the sun setting.  Open kitchen on the other side.

img_3201

img_3215

The dining area is set up with booths and tables.  It is very casual.  Just come as you are type of restaurant.  The staff?  Very friendly.

img_3198

img_3208

img_3221

I started checking the menu.  I am sure they were wanting to see how it was received.  You can purchase wines by the bottle or by the glass.  Beers, some local like Evolution Primal Pale Ale, Dogfish 90min ipa and 16 Mile Blues Golden Ale.  Others, like Corona, Blue Moon, Troegs Hopback Amber, Miller Light, Coors Light and a Maryland favorite, the Natty Boh.

My eyes first went to what was called Jars.  These are starters served in Jars.  We ordered Matt’s spice roasted peanuts.  Slightly salted, slightly spicy; herbs in plain view.

img_3209

img_3211

Then I ordered the conch “red” chowder.  I love conch.  When I see it, I don’t think twice about it.  The soup had plenty of conch; the right amount of spice.  The flavor brought me right to the islands of the Caribbean.

img_3220

My husband had Matt’s imperial crab stuffed oysters.  These oysters had a little bit of breading but Matt fixed him some without the breading. Very good; the crab imperial did not take over the oysters.

img_3217

For the main entree I decided to have the whole black bass.  It was grilled and served over mashed potatoes, yellow squash and sugar snaps.  Every time I can order a whole fish, I will do so.  Even though you have to work around those little bones, it is worth it.  The taste is so different; the bones really add so much flavor while cooking.  It was tender and, again, perfectly seasoned.

img_3230

img_3227

My husband decided to have the skate.  Both of us had never had it.  It was to have been dredged in flour in ordered to be pan seared but because of the gluten allergy it was served without the flour.  I took a bite and it melted in my mouth.  Very delicate. I was so surprised.  It was so good!!

img_3224

Potato salad was brought to the table for sharing.  Perfect summer side.

img_3226

By this time, my brain was signaling that I had eaten too much.  To please stop!  Well, Mike, our waiter, which by the way was very attentive, told me that he really loved the blueberry pie.  It was a classic pie.  I have to say that it was not overly sweet at all and I think Matt said he put a little pepper and sorry but I forgot which herb he mentioned.  Thyme, perhaps?

img_3234

Then George and Jerry came to the table.  Having not seen each other in such a long time we started to catch up. A small order of the skate was ordered again because we raved so much about it that George needed to try it.  They were pretty happy with their meals, as well.

I have a feeling we closed the fish camp.  Talk to you later….you know what?  You are going to love it.  You’ll see.  Let me know….

Stingray, Sushi Bar, Asian Latino Grill, Restaurant, Review, Take Out, Sushi Bar on Wheels, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

IMG_2890

Even though the building is painted in different colors and the interior has been redecorated over the years, the memories came back once I stepped into Stingray.  This restaurant, located at 59 Lake Avenue in Rehoboth Beach was years ago called Fran O’Brien’s.  It was an institution; anyone visiting the beaches; this was the “it” place for “apres beach”, drinks, food, and dancing.  It really was the place to see and being seen.

But enough of that since I am really dating myself.  That’s exactly what I told Laura, our server.  Laura was friendly and really knew the menu well.

Stingray is one of the favorite sushi restaurants of a couple of friends.  And guess what?  They were there.  Joe and Carla; they are sushi connoisseurs.  Carla told me that I needed to order the Man Eater and the Malay Roll.  Laura agreed, as well.

It was the perfect evening to visit Stingray.  This will be their fourth season in Rehoboth Beach.  The tel. is 302-227-6476.  Website?  www.stingrayrestaurant.com.

IMG_2891

Being that it was Sunday, it was quiet.  The music was playing and the restaurant exuded a club-like atmosphere.

 IMG_2902

A full bar, a lounge area where dinner can be enjoyed with reservations.

IMG_2903

IMG_2900

The sushi bar took center stage.  Take Out is available until 1:00 a.m.

IMG_2901

Other rooms were outfitted with tables and some with booths.

IMG_2904

An enclosed glass porch was available and looked like it would be very nice to spend an evening having dinner on that porch while checking out the comings and goings on Lake Avenue.

IMG_2914

I ordered the Man Eater and the Malay Roll.

The Man Eater had fried fresh salmon with jalapeno and spicy mayo, sprinkled with chopped fresh cilantro.  It was delicious and the combination of the salmon with jalapeno gave it a good kick.  Not overly so, but just a hint.  Finished with the cilantro was perfect.

IMG_2919

The Malay Roll had crispy Chilean sea bass, asparagus, and spicy sauce inside, sesame seeds outside.  Very tasty, as well.

Then I decided to order live scallops sashimi.  The presentation was very nice.  The only thing is that I like the scallops to be sliced thin with lime.  I thought that with the cucumber cup you could not really taste the scallops since they were chopped.

IMG_2921

Then I asked Laura if she could ask the sushi chef to prepare an order just like I wanted.  There was a marked difference and eating the scallops with the lime, well, was the best.

IMG_2922

My husband had 2 orders of the same thing.  One was the smelt roe, served on the cucumber cups.  He liked them.

IMG_2918

Then he had the Pocono Mountain Roll, which had steamed shrimp, crab plus masago mixed with a spicy sauce.  It was good.  I had one of those; it was a nice roll.  It was one of those rolls that I would call safe.  Safe, meaning not daring just comfortable; easy on your palate.

Stingray has a Sushi Bar on Wheels.  You can have your own private sushi bar at your next event.  Which means that you can be a guest at your own party.  It offers a variety of maki rolls and sushi selections for your guests to enjoy.

IMG_2905

Their Sushi Chefs will roll your selections behind their 6 seat sushi bar; fresh fish selections will be displayed in their refrigerated glass front sushi case.  To find more information about this, please call 302-227-6475.

Besides Sushi, Stingray offers seafood, chicken, pork and beef.  There are even a couple of vegetarian dishes on the menu, as well.  Soups and salads are always on the menu.

Reservations are accepted for parties of 6 or more.

There is happy hour every day from 4 – 6 p.m. with 2 for 1 sushi rolls.  These will be selected rolls, dine in only and available in the bar and lounge only.

Saturdays and Sundays the happy hour starts at Noon until 6 p.m.

Some of the Latin dishes were Pork Mojo, lobster quesadillas, and fish tacos.  During the season more items will be added.

It was a nice evening.  At this time of the year, plenty of parking, no lines, so I am taking advantage before the gates open on Memorial Week-End.

Talk to you later…..have a good one….

Crab Bag, Restaurant, Review, Crab House, Ocean City, Maryland, Natty Bohs?, Steamed Crabs, Haven!!

IMG_2164

By early afternoon, yesterday, we knew we were going to eat crabs.  Years ago there was a small crab house in Ocean City, Maryland that we loved to go.  As it happens, it was falling all around them.  Anyway, that’s what Nolan, the owner, told me last night.  In the past few years it was rebuilt into one amazing crab house.  You can smell Old Bay seasoning as you approach the restaurant.

The Crab Bag is located at 13005 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD.  Tel. is 410-250-3337.  It opens at 9:00 a.m. serving breakfast and even though it is a full crab house, they offer so many other things to eat; seafood, steaks, hamburgers, sandwiches and salads.  Their website is www.occrabbag.com but it is under construction at the moment.  You can still go on it and download their menu.  You can also find them on Facebook.

IMG_2168

I really go there for the crabs.  It has been quite some time since I had been there.  Crabs, at this time of the year, are coming pretty much from Louisiana.  Last night they were offering all you can eat or you could order by the dozen.  I ordered by the dozen; only the biggest ones.  Crabs are also expensive during these months, but every single table was taken at the Crab Bag.

The Crab Bag has two floors with decks and outdoor dining, as well.  It is February so everyone was indoors.

IMG_2146

There is nothing better than picking crabs in a crab house.  It is loud, people are hammering away, drinking; a constant chatter.  It is the perfect way to establish conversation.  Your hands are fast working, grabbing those lumps of crab meat.

But then, of course, if you are a true Baltimorean, then there is no better way to accompany those steamed, extra large crabs than with a Natty Boh.  It has to be very cold too.  Frosted glass, the best!!

IMG_2154

Natty Bohs (National Bohemian) is back in Baltimore after a 15 year absence.  Steamed crabs and Natty Bohs define Baltimore.  It has always been a tradition.

IMG_2162

We sat on the second level and that had another full bar but not as many tables.  Mike was our waiter and he was busy.  He was very good; attentive and fast.

IMG_2147

We started with some steamed clams; middle necks, chargrilled with fresh shallots, celery, green peppers, spices, Parmesan cheese and bacon.  They were tasty and went fast.

IMG_2151

Then our crabs arrived, steaming hot.  Mike asked us if we wanted vinegar, melted butter, and Old Bay.  My answer?  All of the above.

IMG_2150

We dug into the crabs; they were heavy, juicy and sweet!!  Perfection.  To me, there is nothing like the Maryland blue crab.  Not in season?  Then, this is the next best thing.

IMG_2155

Some steamed corn complemented the crabs.  The corn was nice and sweet for this time of the year.  Don’t know where it was coming from, though.

IMG_2158

Nolan, the owner, stopped by to see how everything was.  It really was very good and the service was the best.  No complaints.

IMG_2160

IMG_2161

We left the Crab Bag, still full of customers enjoying what the Delmarva Peninsula is known for. We told Nolan that we had come to get our crab fix for the week-end.  He in turn told us that there are people that stop by 2 times a week for crabs.  Cannot get enough!!!  I agree because I can’t either.

See you later...

See you later...

Talk to you soon….you know I will….

JAM Bistro by Eden, Rehoboth Beach, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches

IMG_2067

Last September 9, 2010, I went to dinner with friends to a very popular restaurant in Rehoboth Beach called Eden.  You can read this post if you click on the month of September on the left hand side of this website and scroll down to the date.  On that night I happened to look across the street and saw a new restaurant that I did not know about.  It was JAM; also owned by Eden; recently opened.  A mental note to visit this restaurant some time soon.

Well, it has been more than a few months so on Friday, Linda, Harry, John and I decided to check it out.  I had previously called to find out if they were aware of gluten allergies.  They said yes and to inform the waitress.

JAM is located at 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. is 302-226-5266.  Website?  www.jambistro.com. It is open Thursdays and Fridays  from 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:100 a.m.  E-mail is info@edenrestaurant.com.

Linda and Harry are game to try something new even though at times I see a hesitation when I suggest to go to a new place.  It was pretty funny when a couple of years ago I took them to the Grove Market in Bishopville, MD.  Linda did not know what to think when we arrived.

On Saturday, it was the perfect night to go out.  We needed to catch up.  When the 4 of us get together is non-stop talking and laughter.

I had no preconceived ideas about JAM.  Did not even read a review; I wanted to see for myself.

A flight down a set of stairs and then you enter to a surprise.  From the outside JAM is so deceiving.  I thought it would be small but it was not.  A large room with tables scattered throughout and tablecloths.  A partition divided a bar with tables set for dinner.  We decided to sit in the larger dining room.  The colors and art were very pretty.

IMG_2041

IMG_2064

IMG_2062

JAM is a casual restaurant.  We live at the beach; it should be that way.

IMG_2044

Amy was our waitress and she was very friendly.  Throughout our meal she stopped at the table to see if we needed anything; very unobtrusive.  She let us talk and talk and talk.

At JAM you can order every wine by the glass, but what got rave reviews was the Dirty Martini.  It came just like a dirty martini should; cloudy.

IMG_2048

A few appetizers were ordered:

Crispy smashed firgerlings with smoked bacon and vermont cheddar, Old Bay and tartar sauce.  They were crispy and you could definitely taste the Old Bay.

IMG_2051

Shrimp dumplings, lemongrass broth, green, yuzu/truffle dressing.  Yuzu is a sour Japanese citrus fruit; the rind predominantly used.  Seasoned well with a nice flaky crust.

House made meatballs, tomato gravy and shaved parmesan was another appetizer ordered, but Linda has been perfecting meatballs at home and thought hers were better.

IMG_2052

I went with the $30 prix fixe menu and I chose the roasted carrot and ginger soup with fried parsnips chips.  It was delicious and I hope I can get the recipe.

IMG_2049

More wine and more dry martinis followed.  Then for our entrees we ordered.

IMG_2061

Grilled Pork Chop and a side of broccolini over mashed potatoes.  It looked beautiful.  Harry said it was delicious; not dry and great gravy.

IMG_2053

Linda had the Pappardelle Bolognese which was a house made pasta with shaved pecorino and olive oil.  I think she liked it but, again, she has been experimenting a lot with her own Bolognese sauce and she thought hers was so good.  She is inviting us to sample her Italian cooking.  A post will be coming soon.

IMG_2054

John and I chose the Grilled Whole Silver Snapper that came over jasmine rice, garlic broccolini and a preserved orange vinaigrette.  Amy suggested we had this entree and it truly was delicious.  It was a white flaky fish with mild flavor; seasoned and cooked to perfection.

IMG_2055

A word of caution.  If you do not like to see a whole fish then don’t order it.  That has never bothered me.  Also if you don’t like the idea of picking thrugh fishbones, then don’t order it either.  You will be missing a great tasting fish, though.

We had to try the desserts and a outrageous dark chocolate brownie was ordered with vanilla bean ice cream, and caramel krispies.  The brownie was dense and sweet, just as it should be.

IMG_2059

My Key Lime Pie was also perfect.  Tart; not too sweet, just the way I like it.

 IMG_2060

Coffee and laughter was the perfect ending to a perfect evening……friends, always there….I love it that way….

Talk to you later…

P.S.  I must be hitting all the restaurants at the right time because to tell you the truth most of them have been good with just a few having bad nights.  I hope that’s what they had.

Bethany Beach, Delaware Beaches, New Restaurant, Seafood, North Bethany Beach, Tower Shores

I was driving that beautiful road from Rehoboth Beach towards Bethany Beach when I saw the banner.  It was telling me that I should be looking forward to a new restaurant in our Beaches.

IMG_1404

SoDel Concepts was advertising their new restaurant.  This one will be joining already several restaurants owned by SoDel.  I cannot wait.  Their food is consistently fresh, tasty and delicious.

Tower Shores, that’s where the banner was.  Then I looked up to the marquee and it said Matt’s Fish Camp.

IMG_1405

I started thinking about fish camps.  Oh, they are local favorites and hidden jewels located at times off the beaten path.  Well, known in the south.  In them, you can find the freshest catch of the day.

Fish camps were, really, sheds; anglers could fry their catch of the day.  As restaurants, a lot of them are ‘no frills” establishments; but they are cozy, casual and welcoming.

I am wondering what kinds of sides they will have.

I guess, we will have to wait and see…..Yes, looking forward to the Season when the beaches sizzle and we can kick back and relax….talk to you later…

Flavor of India, Northern India Cuisine, Dover, Delaware, Authentic Indian Cuisine, Restaurant, Review

IMG_1386

Back in September I was in Baltimore, Maryland.  Baltimore is known for its many ethnic restaurants and on that evening I went with friends to an Indian restaurant.  Once I write a post on my website I send the information to my Facebook pages; the personal and the one for AboutMyBeaches.  The post regarding my visit to the Indian restaurant in Baltimore got the conversation going on Facebook.  And, Ed suggested that there was an Indian restaurant in Dover, Delaware, that I should try because he thought it was very good.  Last night I tried it and I do want to thank Ed because it was everything he said it was and more.

For the readers that do not know where Dover is I want you to know that Dover is the Capital of the State of Delaware and about half hour from Rehoboth Beach.  It is 90 miles south of Philadelphia and 90 miles east from Washington, D.C.

Dover was founded in 1683 by William Penn.  It is also a military town and the home of the Dover Air Force Base, which is one of the largest military freight terminals in the world.

There are really no Indian restaurants around the Delaware Beaches.  So, when I get the opportunity to have Indian food I go for it.

IMG_1369

Flavor of India is located at 348 North DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.  Tel. is 302-677-0121.  Website is www.flavorofindiade.com.

Flavor of India specializes in the cuisine of North India.  This region has extreme climates and an abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables.  Because of its geographical position, it has strong Central Asian influences in culture and food.

Their curries are thick, moderately spicy; the gravies are creamy.  Because of all the fruits and vegetables, they do have many vegetarian dishes.

North Indians prefer breads over rice.  The region is the home of the tandoori roti and naans, which are breads made in a clay tandoor oven.  The stuffed parathas are flaky breads with different kinds of vegetarian and non vegetarian fillings.  And, the kulchas are breads made from fermented dough.

When preparing rice, it is made into elaborate biryanis and pulaos, which are pilafs.

The aroma of Indian food is amazing.  Spices like coriander, cumin, dry red chillies, turmeric, chilli powder, cardamon, cinnamon, cloves, garam masala, aniseed/fennel are favorites among many others.

Tony was our host.  He was so friendly.  I introduced myself and told him I would be taking some pictures of my food.  He laughed.  Tony also told me that Flavor of India has a lot of customers from Rehoboth Beach and from Salisbury, Maryland.

The restaurant in decorated in a traditional decor.  Tablecloths on the table and linen napkins, as well.  The lighting was perfect; not too bright or not too dim.

IMG_1375

Immediately Tony brought us some pappadom.  This is a wafer thin bread that is usually flavored with spices like cumin and pepper.  You can dip it in a sauce, like chutney, or eat it plain like I did.

IMG_1367

My husband could not eat the pappadom.  Tony and the chef were very aware of the gluten allergy.

I was not sure what to get for an appetizer so Tony suggested we order the Chef’s Assorted Platter, which had a selection of cubes of chicken tikka, tandoori shrimp and seekh kaab.  We told him we like “spicy” and the dish came steaming hot from the oven.

IMG_1371

The appetizer was large enough for sharing and the combinations of the meats, onions and tomato sauce got our appetite going.

An Indian Sula Shiraz was ordered.  Sula Vineyards are northeast of Mumbai.  Want to know more why an enterprising, Stanford-trained engineer named Rajeev Samant quit his high-tech Silicon Valley job in 1993 to do some investigating?…then you should visit www.sulawines.com.

The Shiraz got very good reviews from my husband.

Every dish at Flavor of India is made to order, but it did not take long.

After talking to Tony about what to have as our entree the following was decided.

My husband decided on the Goat Masala.  It had fresh goat meat that had been marinated with spices and then cooked in a rich tomato, onion and cream sauce.  Tony had told us that the goat pieces had bone but the meat was so tender that it just fell off the bone.  We both loved it.  Perfectly seasoned and different from my entree.

IMG_1377

Then for my entree I chose the Lamb Zafrani.  The lamb was simmered in a rich saffron flavored creamy sauce.  I really thought it was great; very well spiced with the perfect heat; and I don’t mean temperature.

IMG_1376

The dishes came with a Basmati rice.  It was so fragrant.  I know that there are so many types of rice but I never get Basmati this good at the grocery store.

IMG_1378

I assembled the rice in the middle of the plate and a bit of the 2 entrees on either side so that I could taste the distinct flavor of the 2 dishes.

 IMG_1379

There was no way I was having dessert but Tony twisted our arms and  brought us rice pudding, which was served cold and not overly sweet.  Perfect after having spicy dishes.

IMG_1384

He also brought us a carrot pudding.  I had never had this before.  It had grated carrots, cheese and sugar.  It was warm, delicious and granular.  The color was very appealing.

IMG_1383

I think that by now you know that I enjoyed immensely my dinner last night.  I really did.  I cannot wait to go back.

Flavor of India is open 7 days a week, 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  They do have a lunch buffet Monday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Also, on Tuesdays and Sundays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. they do offer a dinner buffet.  Last night, it was just dinner.

They offer banquet facilities, outdoor catering, party menus, vegetarian party menus and party trays.

You should note that Delaware Today has awarded them 4 years in a row Best Indian Restaurant in Delaware.

IMG_1372

Have a great day….and again, thanks Ed…..

Atlantique Cafe, Delray Beach, Florida, Restaurant, Review, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Village by the Sea, Palm Beach County

I know breakfast is supposed to give your body the fuel needed to face the rest of the day.  To tell you the truth I don’t find breakfast that exciting.  Well, unless I can have a Rapa Scrapple Sandwich.  I don’t eat too many of those either, though.  You know, trying to lose weight; definitely, that’s not going to help.

Wait a minute.  I guess I should tell you what Scrapple is.  Well, to me there is only one; Rapa.  That’s the company that makes it.  It is a pork product from Bridgeville, Delaware.  I like it sliced thin, sauteed until crisp; in a sandwich or by itself.  More info?  Their website is www.rapascrapple.com.

For breakfast my friends and I go to our favorites in Rehoboth Beach, like Crystal or Greenman.  It is usually a special time any time I can get together with them.  Their names?  Why not?  Missy, Debbie and Roberta and once in a while Alice, when she is in town.

When in Delray, I follow pretty much the same routine than at home; coffee, cream, and Stevia; later on, a gala apple.   But, once in a while I like to find that special breakfast place; the one where I can sit outdoors and have a cup of coffee, an omelette, with no one rushing me.

I was in Delray before the Christmas holidays and we decided to try Atlantique Cafe.  This Cafe is located at the Atlantic Plaza, 777 East Atlantic Ave., Suite C-8. Tel. 561-272-1170.  Website is www.atlantiquecafe.com.  You can find them on Twitter and Facebook.  They have breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Plenty of parking, as well.

Part of the charm of Delray is that it is a very walkable town.  If you are a walker you can pretty much cover the whole downtown.  If you are coming from A1A on Atlantic Ave., then right after you cross the intracoastal bridge, on the right, you will find the Atlantic Plaza.  The Cafe is towards the back.  And, if you are coming on Atlantic Ave. from I-95 then continue until you see the bridge and the Plaza will be to your left.

It was chilly; but now that is 20 degrees in Delaware I guess it is all relative.  I wanted to sit outside, and so we did.  They were busy but attentive.  Some people sat with their dogs at their feet.

I don’t know if I was up to explaining the gluten free allergy so early in the a.m.  Guess what?  They were good.  It was easier than I thought.

I went inside to check the restaurant and I was impressed; bigger than I thought with a bar that could fit plenty of people.  By the way they have happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m.  They also offer free Wi-Fi and  have large t.v.s for all those sport enthusiasts.

Finally, I decided to have a Greek Omelette.  It had onion, tomato, spinach, gyro meat and feta cheese.  As much as I say about breakfast I have to tell you that the omelette was moist, and I think the gyro meat and the feta were a pretty good combination.  It was a big omelette but, no, I did not have any trouble finishing it, which by the way, came with a side of hash browns.

My husband’s breakfast was not on the menu; he made his own thing; Corned Beef, fried onions on hashbrowns.  He also wanted cole slaw.  He knows his cole slaw and liked this one a lot.  If he had said it was o.k. then I would have known better.

I loved that huge tree.  We sat under it and it added so much to the atmosphere of this restaurant.  I did not have lunch or dinner but they do offer salads and platters, cold sandwiches, off the grill and even a kids menu.  Full dinner menu is also available Mondays through Saturdays from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.

If you are visiting Delray, give them a call if you would like to know what entertainment is being offered.  At the time of my visit Elvis was there on Saturdays.

Have a great week….keep warm if you are up north…enjoy yourselves if you are in warmer climates…talk to you later…..
