Destination? The Coffee Mill, Daily Addiction, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Happy Easter, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn9148

Happy Easter!!  No better place than being in Rehoboth Beach.  Church and a visit to Downtown Rehoboth was a must on this windy and chilly day!! Breathing the salty ocean air….definitely reinvigorating and a must!

dscn9147

It was early and a few were already walking their pooches and exercising.  Michael and I decided that we needed to visit Mel at The Coffee Mill, located in the Rehoboth Mews on 127 Rehoboth Ave., Suite B.  It is the oldest coffee shop in Rehoboth Beach and to tell you the truth, it is the best! Let’s say it is a daily addiction.  Website?  http://www.coffeemillrehoboth.com.  You can follow The Coffee Mill on Facebook, as well.

dscn9156dscn9155

My Breve was exactly what was needed.  The Coffee Mill has available seating outside, as well. But, we took ours to go; not before a few photos were taken.

Meet Mell.  He is the owner.  A passion for photography, for his shop, and for coffee.  Always a smile on his face; loves taking care of his customers.

You can enjoy more than coffee at The Coffee Mill.  They serve tea, baked goods, and a light lunch.

Rehoboth Beach has been very crowded this week-end, and pretty soon the summer residents and visitors will be here….parking meters, crowds, etc. etc.  So, I am loving walking, strolling, eating in Rehoboth Beach in the Spring.

Rehoboth Beach is a great town to walk, jog and just sit on one of the many benches outlining the award-winning Boardwalk.  During the summer months this Boardwalk is packed, but on The Second Season, it is a great place to relax and take in that salty ocean air.

dscn5958

Funland is close for the season, but Playland is open!!

dscn5959

dscn5960

Part of the fun whille on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk is the “boardwalk grub”.  Those foods that scream “ice cream”.  These ladies were having so much fun and happy to pose, as welll.

dscn5942

At the water’s edge the fun continued.

dscn5987

And on the beach, some were walking their dogs (you can do that now) or beachcombing.

dscn5997

dscn5984

From the north side of the Boardwalk the WWII Towers were clearly seen.

dscn6000

Plenty of weddings take place on the beach….and yesterday, as the day started to wind down….the guests were patiently waiting.

dscn6007

I had to get back to my car….have a good one!!

Destination? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, The Second Season, Pumpkins, Gourds, Jams, Tomato Sunshine, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn5713

I can see why there is so much traffic when the height of the season is long gone!!  The Second Season at the Delaware Beaches brings gorgeous weather, restaurant specials, events, and no parking meters!!

dscn5717

dscn5716

Today is another one of those days, just like yesterday when I took off for the north side of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.  It was about 8:30 a.m. and I was meeting Alice.  A few were already getting ready for a relaxing morning of fishing; others were walking the Boardwalk.  The Boardwalk is one mile long each way.  This is an award winning Boardwalk, originally built in 1873!!   It is the perfect place to renew in the a.m…..the salt air, the ocean breezes, and good company.  Locals touch each end of the Boardwalk to make sure they have accomplished their walk.

dscn5715

A weekly stop at Tomato Sunshine is a favorite, as well.  At this time of the year,…”produce great pumpkins, the pies will follow later.”  The seasons bring so many colorful changes to Tomato Sunshine.  It is located at 19791 Coastal Highway.  If you are leaving Rehoboth Beach, you will see it on your right.  If you are coming into Rehoboth, it will be on your left.  They are open, at this time of the year, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Tel. 302-226-2533.  Website?  http://www.tomatosunshine.com.

dscn5748

They have jams, fruit, vegetables, and fresh bread, besides all the pumpkins, as well.

dscn5744dscn5745

Tomato Sunshine is ready for Fall.  Check out what they have, don’t miss it.  It is a happy place!!  So, if you are looking for a specific type of pumpkin…go no further.  Ernie might even tell you how to cook some of them.

Discover Rehoboth Beach, Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain, Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, National Register of Historic Places, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn5354

A drinking fountain is a drinking fountain.  What’s the big deal?  I bet you are thinking, this post is going nowhere.  Give me a chance, will you?

You have probably passed this drinking fountain on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk hundreds of times.  You might have even taken a sip out of it on one of those Southern Delaware hot days.

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain is a historic “temperance” drinking fountain.  This is its story:

Muddied and ill-tasting drinking water encouraged many Americans to drink alcohol for health purposes, so temperance groups, which were private benefactors, constructed public drinking fountains throughout the United States following the Civil War.

The National Woman’s Christian Temperace Union’s organizing convention of 1874 strongly encouraged its attendees to erect these public temperance fountains as a mean to discourage males from entering drinking establishments for refreshments.

Beer was the main alternative to water.  It was safer.

In 1929 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Delaware branch organization, the Rehoboth Beach “temperance” drinking fountain was constructed out of granite, measuring 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide.  In 1977 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

So, the next time you are walking on Rehoboth Beach’s award winning Boardwalk, enjoying your Boardwalk grub….check it out and if you are thirsty you know what to do.

Have a good one!

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, The Nation’s Summer Capital, Warm Weather, Blue Skies, A Taste of Summer!

dscn4570

A Taste of Summer!!  You can just tell Rehoboth Beach is ready; excitement is in the air.  My parking Angel came on handy as I found parking just by the Bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue, overlooking Thrasher’s, Kohr Bros, and Dolle’s!!

dscn3130

Then, another telltale that summer is upon us is The Jolly Trolley….a great way to get around.  It was parked right by the Bandstand, waiting for customers.  The Jolly Trolley celebrates and shares the sights, smells, colors and characteristics of the Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach Resort areas.  Friday, 5/10, until 2 a.m.  Saturday, 5/11,  10 a.m. until 2 a.m.  Memorial Day, The Jolly Trolley will be servicing the area every day from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. $2.50 one way.  Children under 5 years of age pay $1.  For more info., please visit http://www.jolllytrolley.com.

dscn3129

I spotted a kid coming out with a freshly made funnel cake!!  He showed it to me and this really screamed summer!

dscn3131

Then I asked the friends from Smyrna, Delaware if I could take their picture with their summer favorite.  From Kohr Bros!!  One just showed me the cone; the other one was not shy.

dscn3140dscn3141

Then, I turned around because it smelled so good…Thrasher’s French Fries!!  Perfectly cooked, crispy….hopefully, she showered them with vinegar.

dscn3142

The Boardwalk Grub…it’s what you will remember.  Rehoboth Beach has wonderful restaurants.  They are really good!  But, there is something about hitting those summer favorites, right by the water!!  Priceless!

Which reminds me that the Rehoboth Museum, located on Rehoboth Avenue by the Visitor’s Center, is opening an exhibit called “Beach Eats” on Memorial Day.  It will feature memorabilia from establishments both old and new that have served generations of locals and beach-goers for years.  According to the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Museum Director, Nancy Alexander, the eateries in the resort city bring back many happy times and stories that go along with them.

dscn3134

If you happen to have memorabilia from local restaurants that you’d like to share for the exhibit, please call her at 302-227-7310.  Visit http://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org.

It was great to see the Boardwalk crowded.  And, the ones sitting by the beach were enjoying one awesome day!

dscn3132

dscn3133

Playland is already opend on the south side of the Boardwalk.

dscn3135

The Beach Arcade on the north side of the Boardwalk has also opened.

dscn3138

Summer tends to have an effect on people.  It is that laissez faire attitude, when we let things take their own course….so when you leave it all behind this summer to come to Southern Delaware, remember….
