Patsy’s Restaurant, Key West Inspired Cuisine, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Review, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

Patsy’s has been a fixture in the resort town of Bethany Beach for many years. If you have never tasted her inspired Key West cuisine and her southern influence cuisine maybe this post will entice you to make that reservation.

Great atmosphere, more so because it is casual and has an island atmosphere. You may request to dine on the porch or inside. The porch is covered. Patsy’s is located at 121 Campbell Place. It opens at 5:30 p.m. until 10. They close on Tuesday and Wednesday. Check the website for information and updates. To make a reservation call the night before you want the reservation after 9 p.m. 302-858-1203. Website is: http://Www.patsysgourmet.com

I prefer to eat late so we arrived at 7:45. Lisa, our server, I have to give a shout. She was perfect; so attentive.

Drinks were ordered and then this Key West Salad arrived. Doesn’t that look amazing? TC thought it tasted delicious. Mixed greens, avocado, hearts of palm, mango, queso fresco with their honey/lime/mustard dressing

My roasted Corn & Sweet Crab Chowder smelled so good and tasted even better. Just a cup will do because my entree was the Softshell Crabs. It was all about crabs.

These softshells were lightly fried with grilled corn/black bean salad, red cabbage slaw and cilantro aioli. The red cabbage was a little spicy.

TC ordered the scallops. Toasted coconut, jasmin rice, mango/pineapple salsa and Thai Curry coconut sauce. Tasted some of them and they were perfectly cooked.

The beaches are crowded this weekend. It’s the official opening of Summer 2022. Happy Memorial Weekend.

Plan your stay and relax, after all you are at the beach.

Fried Green Tomatoes, Love Them!, Fried Green Tomato, Fig, Bacon, Corn Stack, Merryman’s Green Tomato Pickle, Recipes, Restaurants Serving Fried Green Tomatoes, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, Delaware Beaches, Cape Charles, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina, It’s All About Green Tomatoes

I am crushed that Fried Green Tomatoes…..not a Southern dish.  That they, apparently, entered the American culinary scene in the Northeast and Midwest, with a link to Jewish immigrants.  I love them and when I see them on menus, I do order them.  Having been in Charleston, I tasted them everywhere I could.  But, let me tell you that, here, at the Delaware Beaches, we have some pretty awesome ones served at our local restaurants.

Looking forward to my fig tree this year.  Not just to eat figs off the tree but to also prepare my Fried Green Tomato, Fig, Bacon, Corn Stack….It is my own recipe; not begged, borrowed, or stolen.  You can get the recipe by clicking on the month of August of 2013 on the archives of AboutMyBeaches and scrolling down to the 11th.

In Rehoboth Beach, Delaware:

FINS ALE HOUSE & RAW BAR on Coastal Highway.  I just had these the other day.  They were delicious and hopefully, they will keep them on the menu.

dscn4086

BLUE MOON located on Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  This is a signature appetizer.  The fried green tomatoes are served with herbed sheep’s cheese, onion, compote, pesto and a balsamic drizzle.  Definitely, a blending of flavors.

In Bethany Beach, Delaware:

PATSY’S RESTAURANT in Downtown Bethany Beach.  Her fried green tomatoes are topped with roasted red pepper/Vermont cheddar cheese spread with fresh basil pesto and balsamic reduction.

Cape Charles, Virginia’s Eastern Shore:

AQUA AT KINGS CREEK MARINA in Cape Charles serves a Fried Green Tomato BLT Salad…smoked bacon and mixed greens, tossed with a roasted tomato vinaigrette.

Historic Charleston, South Carolina:

TBONZ in Historic Charleston had these great fried green tomatoes….they went in my burger.

dscn3662

SOUTHEND BREWERY & SMOKE HOUSE, located in Downtown Charleston had never had anyone topped their pizza with fried green tomatoes.  Of course, pimento cheese was included.  The pizza did not wow me here.  But, the combination of pizza and fried green tomatoes was pretty good.

dscn3740

LOWCOUNTRY BISTRO, located in Historic Charleston has a great Ambrose Farms Spinach Salad….an addition of Fried Green Tomatoes made it just perfect.

dscn3749

A.W. SHUCK’S – We stopped here with our Culinary Tour (post in the making)….the praline butter on the fried green tomatoes was delish.

dscn3940

TOAST, located on Meeting St. had their fried green tomatoes with sweet pepper relish.

The following recipe is soooooo good.  You can serve it with roast beef, chicken, or even in a sandwich.  It takes some time to make but once in the jars you can store them for a long time.  Give it as presents to special friends.

MERRYMAN’S GREEN TOMATO PICKLE

dscn2968

1 peck (8 quarts or approx. 20 lbs of small green tomatoes

6 red peppers

12 large onions

5 tablespoons celery seed

5 tablespoons mustard seed

1/2 gal. cider vinegar

3 lbs. light brown sugar

1 cup salt

Slice the tomatoes and onions very thin.  Cut peppers into thin strips.  Place alternatively (some tomato, some onion, some peppers) in layers in a large bowl, sprinkling salt over each layer.

Let mixture sit for several hours or overnight to draw out liquid.

Squeeze the pickle dry and place in a large kettle.  Pour vinegar, sugar, mustard seed and celery seed over pickle.

Cook slowly until onion is clear and tomato is almost transparent.  One to two hours.  Check and stir often.

Place in sterilized jars and seal.

Note:  It is usually served in my house during the Holiday Season.  It is an old Merryman recipe.

Have a good one!!

Bethany Beach Eats!! Patsy’s Restaurant, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Review, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Gluten Free Dishes Available

dscn0278

Patsy’s Restaurant is located in the quiet resort of Bethany Beach.  I like to say quiet because nothing is further from the truth.  This coastal Delaware, family resort is ready for Summer 2014!!  And, so is Patsy’s.  The address is 121 Campbell Place, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.  Tel. 302-537-2433.  Website?  http://www.patsysgourmet.com.

It was so gorgeous last Sunday that a dinner at Patsy’s was the perfect choice.  Sitting on the porch on that cool night was awesome!  Nothing like a delicious and relaxing dinner with friends.  Daily dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.  Dine outdoors under the porch or indoors.  No reservations.

dscn0277

For starters we had Patsy’s Fried Green Tomatoes.  They were topped with roasted red pepper/Vermont cheddar cheese spread with fresh basil pesto and balsamic reduction.  Just take a look at the photo…..they do look beautiful, don’t they?  They tasted just as good!

dscn0271

The presentation of the Grilled Eggplant was so inviting.  The grilled eggplant was grilled with herbed goat cheese, sauteed tri-colored peppers, onions and spinach with a pomodoro sauce and an herb salad.  That would have been one of my choices.  Love grilled eggplant.  This stack looked and tasted fantastic and Marilyn loved it!

dscn0272

So surprised that my friend, Shelley, ordered the Shrimp & Grits.  The shrimp with tri color peppers, red onions and Andouille sausage on white cheddar cheese grits hit the spot.

dscn0273

Well, my dish was a Sunday special.  Not very dietetic by any means.  But, it was one of those week-ends where the diet went in a different direction….Fried Chicken on Waffles!!  The waffles had a bite to them; prepared with corn and jalapenos.  The chicken was fried to perfection…..I confess I ate it all, skin, you name it.  The glaze was sweet but with its own punch, as well.  The watermelon was refreshing….a summer favorite.

dscn0276

Note:  There are gluten free dishes available.  Check http://www.patsysgourmet.com.  The information is under the Main Event Menu.

There was no way we could eat dessert.  We saw them go by.  The Chocolate Cake could have fed 4 people.  The young ones eating next to us had the Banana Crepes and when I asked them how they were, they just kept nodding.

Maybe next time.

So, remember, if you want some special and quaint place to eat….check Patsy’s.

Have a good one!!

Bethany Beach Eats, Patsy’s Restaurant, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Review, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Gluten Free Friendly Restaurant!! The Second Season!!

dscn5300

Destination?  Bethany Beach, Delaware….the 35th Annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival is taking place until 5 p.m. Saturday, 9/7.  The Boardwalk and surroundings streets become every year the place to browse, shop and enjoy the beginning of the Second Season at the Delaware Beaches.

But when that is all finished, then, where to dine in Bethany Beach?

dscn5315

Well, let me tell you about it.  Patsy’s Restaurant is located at 121 Campbell Place on the second block from the ocean, right near the Bethany Beach Post Office.  Tel. 302-537-2433.  Website?  http://www.patsysgourmet.com.  No reservations; first come, first served.  We are entering the Second Season at the Delaware Beaches, so please call in advance to make sure that they are open on the day you want to dine.

Patsy’s has indoor and outdoor dining.  We decided to sit outdoors.  It was the perfect evening; just with family.

The music, definitely, Caribbean with a Key West beat!

dscn5302

The food is fresh, and their offerings change constantly depending on the season.  Very gluten free friendly…just ask them.  They will be able to modify some  of the dishes and there is always plenty of fresh seafood.

This is what we enjoyed:

For starters a Gazpacho.  Gazpacho is made so many different ways.  At Patsy’s the Gazpacho has plenty of veggies in a broth that also has a very nice kick to it.

dscn5304

The Grilled Peaches with herb goat cheese and prosciutto were beautiful and delicious.  Local peaches, by the way.

dscn5303

Grilled Mahi on corn, squash, and green bean succotash with a cherry tomato salad and pesto had a diversed combination of flavors.  Very much liked.

dscn5311

The Grilled Tuna was another choice not to be missed…on purple sticky rice cake with napa cabbage slaw and miso mustard sauce.

dscn5309

Love softshells and Patsy’s were cornmeal crusted with grilled corn, black bean salad, red cabbage slaw and cilantro aioli.

dscn5307

The oven roasted Rainbow Trout was deboned and then stuffed with bacon, shiitaki mushrooms and spinach with roasted fingerling potatoes.  Perfectly seasoned!!

dscn5308

We even ordered two desserts to be shared, of course!!

The Patsy’s Blackberry/Blueberry Cobbler with their own fresh made Vanilla Ice Cream!!  Yum!

dscn5314

Love when a Key Lime Pie is tart…that’s how Patsy’s is.  Made inhouse, topped with whipped cream and fresh lime zest.

dscn5313

This is the time of the year when restaurants are open at the Delaware Beaches, the crowds are manageable, and the weather is awesome!  Enjoy it.

Note:  As of this post, Patsy’s is closed on Wednesday.  No Brunch on Sunday.  But, dinner is served at 5:30 p.m.
