Need a ride to Funland?  Remember me?  I am Miss Sophia and I am a little bit new at posting on a blog.  So give me a chance.  I will improve.  There is nothing better than living at the beach!  It is my playground.  On such a hot week-end a day at the beach was a must.

Rehoboth Beach has parks and plenty of places to have a picnic.  One of my favorites past times.  I am a foodie at heart so a little to eat outdoors is always priceless!

Kids coming to Rehoboth Beach will soon find out that the Boardwalk is the life of the town.  Lots of fun for young ones like me.  But there is one place where the whole family will enjoy.  That is Funland located at 6 Delaware Avenue and the Boardwalk.  There are a lot of young kids attractions but the thrill rides that the older ones like, are also there.  It opens daily at 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.  The website is http://www.funlandrehoboth.com.

We had just been at Nicola Pizza, having dinner and a delicious Nic-o-Boli.  Website? http://www.nicolapizza.com.

It was in June and the weather was still a bit cooler.  So off we went to Funland.  First thing my Grandmas and my Mom wanted to do was Whack-a-mole.  This game was invented so long ago, in 1976. We had just gone from Nic-o-Boli to Whack-a-mole!!  I was not sure about why all the screaming, but they thought it was fun.  So here I am with my Mom.  A Nikon Moment.

The beautiful carousel was more my speed at this stage of my life.  I forgot to tell you but I have been busy mastering the art of walking.  I am a bit stiff but it is definitely getting much better.

I know I am very serious on my photos but I can assure you that I was having fun.  haha

I think the boat rides are the same price of so many years ago.  On the first photo you can see my Dad on a green boat when he was little. He is not smiling either. On the other photo is where I am. A green boat, as well.  1 ticket per ride still!! A bargain.

Early evening is a good time for Funland.  It is quieter than later at night.

I am going on the cutest little engine ride.

And then on the Police Car.

Oh no, I did not know about this next ride….but here they were taking me too!!

It was getting late and more people were starting to come in.  It is right off the Boardwalk so it such an easy walk from all points in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  I will get the hang of all these rides as I get older but my first experience was a “blast”.  Talk to you later!!

What’s Going On? New Foodie in Town, Sophia, Nicola Pizza, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Kid Friendly Restaurants, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

FullSizeRender (171)

I am Miss Sophia.  Most of the time my favorite past time is playing on the beach.  I am very new to this.  I am only 15 months old.  I am a fast learner.  Besides doing all those things babies do, I have become quite a foodie.  I like most everything.  I try it once and if I put a funny face my Mom usually knows that I am not too comfortable with such a unique taste.  One thing I love is ice cream, watermelon, and cherry tomatoes.

I love Italian food so we took off to Nicola Pizza.  They tell me that since 1971 it has been a favorite of residents and visitors alike.  It has 2 locations:  the original located at 8 N 1st Street and the second on 71 Rehoboth Avenue.  The second one is practically around the corner.  Tel. 302-227-6211.  Website http://www.nicolapizza.com.

My Mom and my 2 grandmas were with me at the original location.  Nicola Pizza is very kid friendly.  No rush, stay as long as you want.

We ordered French Fries!  Sprinkling them with a little Apple Cider Vinegar is always good, but I just put ketchup on mine.  My Grammy calls this type of food Boardwalk Grub!  Not sure what she means, but I think I will be learning more and more about these favorites of all that come to the beach.  I forgot to tell you that it seems they all like their fries well done!

DSCN3760

Nicola Pizza is known for their Nic-o-Boli.  The original has ground beef and you can add all kinds of other goodies like, onions, cheese, sweet peppers, mushrooms and the list goes on.  They have a vegeterian ones, as well.  These Nic-o-Bolis can be also bought by the dozen.  Nicola Pizza also ships.

This is what the Nic-o-Boli looks like. Inside, it is hot and full of meat, cheese and sauce.

DSCN3764

My Grammy wanted to have it but did not want to eat all the dough.  She says summer is coming.  I want to tell her summer is here!!  Anyway, they have what they call a Nic-o-Boli in a bowl.  She added sweet peppes, and mushrooms.

DSCN3762

She loved it.  Guilt free she said.

Mama Nicola (Joan Caggiano) was making the rounds.  She always stops at each table to see if her customers are satisfied.  When she came to my table she decided to take a seat and watch me eat my spaghetti which by the way, I loved.  I slurperd those noodles right up and loved the meatballs, as well.

DSCN3766

Mama Nicola was so nice.  She just watch me eat and have a good time.

From here we were off to the rides at Funland, also in Downtown Rehoboth Beach!!

I’ll be passing the word around as I see kid friendly places, here at the Delaware Beaches.  Night Night!!

Destination? Nicola Pizza, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware…Love Pizza!!

dscn3528

Pizza is good any time of the day.  On cold winter days it is even better.  In Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, we have various pizza establishments.  Don’t get me wrong I have had them all over and over again through the years, but I keep coming back to Nicola Pizza.  It is located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach with 2 locations:  8 N 1st St, which is their original location and on 71 Rehoboth Avenue, which is right around the corner.  Tel. 302-227-6211.  Website?  http://www.nicolapizza.com.  Besides pizza they have other great offerings, and plenty of specials throughout the year.

When having pizza at Nicola we usually go to their original location on 8 N 1st St.  Like my kids say….it is nostalgic.  We love the booths and the warmth of the restaurant.  It is very popular year-round with summer visitors standing in line for quite some time.

Starting with a salad…this is their traditional salad with cheese, onions, and a peppercorn dressing.

dscn3526

I am so guilty of eating these fries….but I did not order them.  Crispy with melted cheese…a little vinegar and what can I say….awesome!

dscn3525

I can honestly say that Nicola’s is my favorite pizza.  There is something about that sauce, plus the fact that when we order our pizza, it always comes out just like you ordered it….well done!!  Our choice of toppings?  Sweet peppers.

Blue Skies, Cool Temperatures, No Snow!, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware….A Quiet Week-End at the Beaches, What Are You Doing Today? How About Hot Off The Press?

dscn8156

Whether you like to visit the Delaware Beaches at the height of the season or during their Second Season, you have to admit that it is great to get out of town and from the routines of our daily lives.  For many this year is shoveling snow.  Guess what?  There is no snow at the Delaware Beaches, and I am writing this post from Rehoboth Beach.

You can walk the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk while breathing in the ocean air and taking in the gorgeous scenery.

dscn7322

You might have to walk it a few times if you are like me…..taking my friend, Ron, to eat his first pizza at Nicola Pizza the other day.  I told them that Ron knew how to make pizza.  He says he can make a Chicago pizza on the grill that it is to die for.  I said to the server…make it a large, half sweet peppers and mushrooms; the other half sausage and onions….well done, please.  I think Ron liked it!!

Nicola Pizza, Rehoboth Beach, Pizza, Review, Delaware Beaches

After spending a few hours with Pete, my handyman, I decided to order a pizza from Nicola.  I deserved it.  Pete drove me crazy and there was nothing like a slice of pizza for instant gratification.

This is the 3rd time I have ordered pizza in a week.  Right in downtown Rehoboth Beach, all those 3 pizza joints are within walking distance of one another.  So, you have your pick.  And we all do; it is a matter of taste.

Like Ed, a resident from Rehoboth, who says he can eat pizza every day and has given me other places to try.  He has his preferences of what type of cheeses should be used, thickness, and toppings.

Last night there was a show on t.v. and it was all about the pizzas in New York City and Chicago.  New York pizza won.  The difference between the 2?  The thickness with New York having a thin crust and Chicago was deep dish pizza.

I made my call and ordered a small cheese, well done, and thin.  They asked me if I wanted a pan (personal) pizza or the regular.  Of course, the regular.  It would be ready in 20 minutes and it was.

Nicola Pizza does not need any introduction here at the beaches;  it is also an institution that opened up in 1971.  It is a family business.

They are located at 8 N. 1st Street.  Tel. 302-227-6211.  The website is www.nicolapizza.com.

 IMG_0278

Nicola is proud to inform its patrons that they drain the fat from the beef, blend three kinds of cheeses and use homemade sauce.  No additives or preservatives are ever used.

You can dine in or take out and Nicola has a new location right on Rehoboth Ave., around the corner from the original one.  I ordered my take out pizza from the original location.

IMG_0281

Involved in the community and helping organization to raise funds.  For that purpose, just give them a call for more information.

Nicola has specials during the winter and stays open year-round for lunch and dinner.  They are also the home of the Nic-O-Boli, which is ground beef, their fat free pizza sauce and a blend of cheeses rolled in fat free dough, then baked in the oven.  They do also offer specialty Nic-O-Bolis, as well, like no beef, low carb, and a few more.

Nic-O-Bolis can be bought by the case, frozen.  I have given them as gifts before and always appreciated.  Just pop them in the oven.

I drove home with my hot pizza and already my car was full of that smell.

IMG_0283

I rushed into the house and showed it to my husband, who as you know cannot have it because of his gluten allergy.

I have not had Nicola’s pizza in some time and I thought it was very good.  It was thin, crispy and well done.  And, the sauce was flavorful and did not overpower the pizza.  It came out just like I ordered it.

IMG_0286

IMG_0288

This time I had a couple of pieces and froze the rest in case I had a craving later on.

Later in the evening I decided to make a gluten free pizza myself.  I had bought gluten free pizza dough.  The pizza looked good.  I added cheese, my own sauce, peppers, onions, mushrooms, anchovies, and sun dried tomatoes.  It came out too “doughy” .  I will have to perfect it.
