“That’s My job, to lift people up with great food.” paul prudhomme

The opening of the restaurants in Southern Delaware I could not wait for. Don’t get me wrong, when you like to cook it does not matter. But what matter is the ambiance of a restaurant full of people, having fun and enjoying beautifully prepared food using local products. This part of the country is full of amazing chefs….it is a foodie’s destination in case you did not know.

I am enjoying the fact that so many people have taken cooking during the lockdown. There is nothing better when you put food in your mouth that has been cooked with love and not rushed.

It has been some time since I visited Good Earth Market located at 31806 Good Earth Lane on Rt. 26 in Ocean View, DE. Depending where you are coming from you turn on Rt. 26 in Bethany Beach, west, and go about 3 or miles and after you pass the Rt. 17 intersection continue a bit longer and it will be on your left hand side. Tel 302-537-7100 Website? http://www.goodearthmarket.com

It was the perfect evening. A full moon, low humidity. Al Fresco dining does taste better. At Good Earth Market dining outdoors is taken to a different level. You are among nature. If the weather does not cooperate, they do have an enclosed screened in porch where you can dine and still get a good view of the gardens.

Get your drinks and walk around the property. In making the reservation I called the restaurant and they gave me Sue Ryan’s number. She is the owner and so nice and friendly. At this time of limited reservations she is taking such calls.

A new menu but also their traditional menu was offered. Good wine list and attentive service.

For a first course their Crab & Avocado Salad with a side of corn tortillas was plentiful and delicious.

I had the Shrimp & Scallop Ceviche…chiles, coconut, citrus, Baywater Bibb Lettuce Roll ’em Ups. Spicy!! But I like that heat.

For our second course we had their Good Earth Wedge. Romaine, Heirloom cherry tomatoes, smoky Benton’s Bacon (so crispy), pickled shallots and creamy blue cheese. As you can see a photo says a thousand words and at Good Earth their presentation climbed up to a different level.

I love beets and can roast my own. So choosing their Roasted Beet and Arugula Salad with toasted walnut and hemp seed granola, whipped feta and a lemon vinaigrette gave it a light summery taste.

A dining experience for sure with the Strawberry Moon watching.

What to choose for our third course. Scallops I enjoy so much. This particular offering of Good Earth was awesome. Look at this photo. Pan Roasted Dayboat Scallops with smoky bacon asparagus and black garlic vinaigrette.

Shrimp & Grits…. I do have a weakness for this dish. Having it in Charleston gives it a different meaning but here in Southern Delaware they can really also prepare it well. Full of flavor and spice, Good Earth’s was delicious and enough to take a doggie bag; not really. Sadie would not like it. Haha. It had aged chorizo, tomato broth and creamy corn grits.

We did not have dessert. I think we were very satisfied. But their desserts looked very good. A sweet ending definitely.

This was such an enjoyable evening. I hope you do visit them while you are at the beach. And if you are a resident, please go.

So until next time remember “one cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”…

Tomato Sunshine changes with the season.  I love stopping by.  It is very close to my home.  To tell you the truth, at times I just pull in and walk around.  The flowers are gorgeous, the produce is amazing.  It all puts a smile on my face.

Tomato Sunshine is located at 19791 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Tel. 302-226-9533.  Website?  http://www.tomatosunshine.com.  If you are vacationing, please stop in.  Ernie and Donna are the owners and either one or the other is always there.  Any questions you might have, just ask because everyone is so helpful.  I always have an interest in different looking fruits and Ernie is quick to give me a description.

But, today I was looking for peaches.  It is that time of the year.  Tomato Sunshine has local peaches.  Because of the hot weather they are ready.  If you are baking or just enjoying them as a fruit, stop by.  They are so sweet.l

I notice they had local fresh bread, as well. The bread came from Touch of Italy located at The Villages of Five Points in Lewes.

The corn, and the melons were just gorgeous.

The Honeydews were screaming…take me, take me…it is too hot!!

Then, my eyes focused on the mountain of tomatoes. The color was unreal.

dscn5998

There it was.  The mother of all tomatoes.  I picked it up and took it to the scale.  I wanted to see its weight.  Wow….1.74 lbs!!  My gosh!.  They told me the other day they had a 2 pounder.

It is the height of the season for a lot of the local produce.  If you are visiting the Delaware Beaches, please just take time to enjoy what Southern Delaware has to offer.  We have lots of farmers’ markets; local markets that open every day.   You know what?  You won’t regret it.  The taste is just incredible.

Talk to you later.  Have a good one!!

Nourish, Specialty Foods, Catering, Market, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

This past week I had the opportunity to taste some of the specialties prepared by Nourish.  I could not believe how good and fresh everything tasted.  I had heard about Nourish and made a mental note to stop by at some point and see what they were offering to the Rehoboth Beach community.  Today was the day.

Nourish is located at 37385 Henlopen Junction #10, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. is 302-227-6282.  The website is www.anourishingidea.com.  Fax # is 302-260-9127.   The owners?  Deberah Sutter and Lois Pellegrino.

The person that greeted me upon entering Nourish was Jane.  She gave me a tour of the store and introduced me to Deberah and Lois.

These ladies are telling all of us here at the Beaches to Live….Relax….and Let Them Cook….  Great!! Let’s see what they have.

Charcuterie (ham, sausages, pates)

I personally came home with some of their prepared foods:

White Anchovies.  The first time I had them was in Spain and they are so mild and delicious.  If you are not a fan of anchovies these ones might change your mind.

Chicken Apple Salad, Curry Chicken Salad, Edamame Salad, Quinoa Salad, Indonesian Rice Salad, Indian Dahl and Yingling Smoked Salmon.  All of these salads were home made.  The spices and herbs used to give them their unique flavors are individually defined as you tasted one bite after another.

Deberah told me she is from San Francisco.  When she was young her family had 6 “Taquerias”.  We were saying how people are enjoying the foods with Latin influences and considering them healthy, which they are, when prepared correctly.

Nourish has party platters, sandwiches to order, wraps, beach food, artisanal cheeses, housemade soups, and salads.

All salsas are made in-house.  The hottest is Seriously Sassy, then there is Some Like it Hot, among others.  The fig and olive tapenade was to die for.  I might have to barter with her since I have a fig tree.

Chips?  Also home made.  Nourish is aware of individuals with celiac disease and gluten intolerances and gluten free products are available.  All of the salads I bought today were gluten free.
