My friend, Cindi, and I have never met strangers.  It ended up being that the owners of Best Nest in Downtown Cape Charles were originally from the Bethany Beach and Selbyville…Delaware area.  Small world.  We arrived at the store because we wanted to say hi to someone from back home.  Best Nest is located at 7 Strawberry Street, Cape Charles, VA 23310.  Tel. 757-331-4437.  Website?  http://www.bestnest.net.  You can find them on Facebook as Best Nest Home Furnishings.

This is a fairly new location for them….but the store already looked so pretty and it felt like it had been there forever.  They open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Closed on Tuesdays.  Sundays by appointment.

John and Nikki are the owners and they offer many years of experience to their customers.   Their projects can be large or small, and both are very comfortable working with a variety of budgets, tastes and personalities.

The store offers furniture, art, accessories, linens and rugs.  At times just an accessory here or there can really define a room.

If you are in need of home staging, or might want to rearrange what you already have to give you a better flow, please give them a call or stop by.

Please visit http://www.bestnest.net if you would like to read some of the testimonials and also to see photos of many of their projects.

The weather felt better today….don’t you think?  Have a good one.

White Orchid Interiors, Showroom, Ocean View, Delaware, Residential Space Planning, Custom Window Treatments, Paint Consultations, Wallcoverings, In Home Design Services, Delaware Beaches

Back on October 26, I wrote a post on a furniture consignment shop called Seaquels in Ocean View, Delaware.  The store is owned by Cindy and Kathy.  By the way, if you want to see that post just click on the month of October, 2010 and scroll down to the 26th.

These two ladies sent me an e-mail.  They thought I should go and visit White Orchid Interiors as possible material for my blog.  They thought the store looked beautiful and readers might like to find out that there is another choice for their decorating needs, among the ones that already exist in our Delaware beaches.  Word of mouth; again, is the best advertisement.

Well let me tell you more about White Orchid.  First of all, it is located at 83 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970.  Tel. is 302-541-4044.  Website?  www.whiteorchidde.com.  It is so easy to get to because all you have to do if you are driving on Rt. 1 is get to Bethany Beach and right there at the intersection of Rt. 1 and Rt. 26 just go west for about 2 miles and you will see it on the right hand side of the road.

It is a house and at the beginning I did not know where it was but once I saw it I, definitely, knew where I was.

Because this showroom was a home, it has that look and ambiance; you move through the different rooms of a house. Even though it is an interior design shop, furniture, home accents, and art are available for purchase on the spot.

Nothing makes a store shine more than the people that work in it.  In this case the owner, Leslie Bixler. It was the first time I had met her and immediately I felt at ease with her.  She is friendly and exudes confidence.  You can tell she loves what she does.  She is not new at this type of business.  Leslie ‘s background is in retailing, marketing and advertising.  And she is a very busy lady.

The store features metals, natural seagrass, lamps, luxury bedding, designer pillows, and mirrors, among many other accessories.

White Orchid Interiors is eclectic and stylish; the way the store is decorated radiates proportion and symmetry.

Leslie offers services like residential space planning, custom window treatments, paint consultation, wallcoverings and in home design services.

Most important is that her designs skills cater to a variety of interior styles while working within your budget.  I remember one time a friend of mine who is a decorator told me that if your budget has no limits then for a designer it becomes a very easy job.  It is when a limited budget is in place that a designer really becomes a creator of sorts; innovative, showing taste, style and class.

Her local art is original; one being the watercolors on her wall.  They are by Dorothy Harrison Braun, who is her mother.  Mrs. Harrison offers private and group instruction and you can call her at 302-539-2045.

I took so many pictures thinking I would only put a few on my post.  But, I really liked them all and what better way to show White Orchid than by showing some of the pictures of this very unique interior design shop.

As I was leaving I kept thinking about my own style.  It is a mix of several styles which make my own look, I guess.  Casual and easy; that’s it.

I also remember reading a quote “Style comes from within and is a reflection of your character and preference”.  Could not have said it better myself.

Everything but The Kitchen Sink, Hockessin, Delaware, Bridal Registry, Gift Registry, Cooking Classes, Home Goods, Personalized Stationery, Children’s Corner, Silver Restoration Event

I took off with Paula last Monday and we drove, north, in the State of Delaware.  Thank God I went with her because she is a native of the State and knows the ins and outs of all roads in the state, especially Wilmington and adjacent towns.

One store that I have been meaning to visit is called Everything but The Kitchen Sink.  I have been on their e-mail list since last year when I saw that they were offering a gluten free cooking class.

When I started this blog, I really wanted to visit the places I was going to be blogging about.  It is the only way to really express my honest opinion.  It, definitely, is my judgment.

The Kitchen Sink offers a unique shopping experience.  It is one of those must stop shops for everything; the store lives up to its name.

The Kitchen Sink is located  at 425 Hockessin Corner, Hockessin, DE 19707.  The Tels. are 302-239-7066, or 800 731-7066. The website is www.thekitchensink.com.  The owner is Missy Lickle, but I did not meet her.  I met Suzanne Edgar, who is the Manager.  I told her that I wanted to write about the store and she graciously told me I could wander around and take pictures, as well.

100_0785

The Kitchen Sink is in the Brandywine Valley, minutes away from Centreville, Greenville, Winterthur and Longwood Gardens.  This area is called Hockessin and even though it is a little bit of a trip for us here at the Delaware Beaches, it is not a bad drive and definitely, a change of scenery.  Driving time is about 1 hour and 45 minutes.  Hockessin is in New Castle County, Delaware and its chief industry is mushroom farming.

100_0784

The Kitchen Sink opened in 1977, when its owners purchased an old hardware store that had stoned walled bins for grain and coal storage.  Since those days the store has grown both in size and popularity.  It has a second floor loft, where railcars were onced winced up to dump the coal below.

The store looks beautiful.  On the first floor you will find the bridal and gift registry; beautiful china, crystal, silverware.  Not only for the bride, but for yourself, as well.  Crisp linens for the table, kitchen gadgets; everything you can imagine to prepare a fabulous meal.

On this first floor, it is also where you will find their “kitchen”.  Yes, they offer cooking classes.  The second cooking class will be Monday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m. and the cost will be $60.00.  Please call the above telephone number to reserve your spot.  This class will be Journey to Asia, which will include exotic dishes made just for you by their local chef, Nanek Oei, who is back from Indonesia.   The menu for that class will consist of Pumpkin & Coconut Milk Soup, Crab Meat Fried Rice and Crispy Wontons with Ground Pork and for dessert you will learn to make Tapioca Pears with Bananas in Coconut Milk.  Please check the website above mentioned because you will be able to see what a beautiful website they have and read about their story.  A schedule of cooking classes and events is also posted on the website.

On Thursday, 4/8 from 10 to 6 p.m., Friday, 4/9 from 10 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, 4/10 from 10 to 3 p.m. there will be a Silver Restoration Event. You may bring your silver for a free estimate on repairs.  Silver, brass, copper, pewter, nickel and gold are all professionally restored.  More info?  Please call 302-239-7066.

On the second floor of this special store is a corner just for children.  You will find Christening dresses, silver baby cups, stuffed animals, puzzles, games and wind-up toys.

Another corner will be one designated for personalized stationery.  A wide selection for every occasion.  An InScribe calligraphy machine will be able to turn an ordinary invitation to an extraordinary and unforgettable one.

The Bed and Bath coner is especially popular at this time of the year since a bedding sale is under progress until 4/3.  Pamper yourself with a soothing sachet, slippers, or an elegant pillow.  Or, maybe fine soaps, lotions and body oils.

100_0757

Looking for garden gadgets, pottery and whimsicals for your yard?  It is also found upstairs, at the Kitchen Sink.

100_0768

100_0763

So many beautiful things for the home.  A wide assortment of rugs were hanging from the railings.

100_0783

So, if you are looking for something special or just a relaxing way to spend a day, visit this store.  You will definitely find something to lift your spirits here; indulge, spoil.

Have a great Easter Week-end!!  Enjoy the weather…Talk to you later…
