Rehoboth Beach Eats! Lily Thai, Restaurant, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Lunch, Dinner, Reasonable, Authentic Thai Cusisine, A Balance of Flavors, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

The sun still has not come out.  You have done your shopping and you are staying put in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  I don’t blame you.  The rest of the visitors are probably heading to the outlets and the ones that were here for the week-end are going home early.  Rt. 1 or Coastal Highway will be very crowded.

I love Thai food.  It is a balance of flavors.  Not just a single one.  Plenty of herbs, seasonings and ingredients are found in this cuisine.  In Downtown Rehoboth Beach Lily Thai is located at 10 North 1st Street.  It opens for lunch and dinner.  Tel. 302-227-3348.  You can order take out or enjoy your food inside….beer, wine and several others spirits are available.

The lunch is reasonable.  The food is authentic Thai.

For lunch the Chicken/Tofu Drunken Noodles hit the spot.

And, my Duck Jalapenos is a favorite.  Needless to say I loved it.  Right amout of heat.

One of my favorite dishes at Lily Thai when having dinner is the Chili Crusted Eggplant.  Lightly fried Thai eggplants, flavored with sweet and spicy roasted Chili sauce, chicken, shrimp, tomatoes, onions and topped with fresh cilantro.  Those flavors are incredible.

Rehoboth Beach is a dining destination, with plenty of restaurants to pick and choose.  Lily Thai has established itself as a consistently good restaurant serving authentic Thai food at reasonable prices.

Sunday, 8/4….Once again we decided to go back to Lily Thai.  I thought we were crazy, but for some reason my parking Angel found me a nice parking spot with an hour already there!!

Today we had the Chicken Tofu Massaman.  It was a Massaman Coconut Curry with a touch of Lily’s Peanut sauce.

Larb can be spicy and my dish was.  It was ground chicken breast tossed in lime juice, red onions, Thai herbs and fresh mint.

A side order, which was not on the menu, consisted of Chili Thai Eggplant.  It was the perfect addition to my Larb.

Have a great day.

Lily Thai, Restaurant, Review, Thai Cuisine, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

I think I would like to have some Vietnamese soup, he said.  He, meaning my husband.  I gave him that look like he had horns coming out of his head.  Really?  Is that so?  It’s not like we live in New York where out the door and you can get anything you want.

He continued….”we” can make it.  Another no no.  “We” means, “you can maket it”.  So, we went to Lily Thai instead, located at 10 North 1st St. in downtown beautiful and warm Rehoboth Beach.  Yes, it was at that time of the evening and 54 degrees.  Tel. 302-227-3348.

I have gone plenty of times to Lily Thai.  And, have written about it, as well.  I was late in discovering this small restaurant that has been around for a few years now.  Originally, it was BYOB.  Then, an application process cut that out until last year they finally got their liquor license.  It has made such a difference; people do like to have a drink with dinner.

Lily Thai opens 6 days a week for lunch and dinner, closed on Mondays, at this time of the year. They have great specials, and it is very affordable.

The last time I was there I had a dish that even though I took a picture, then I could not remember what it was.  It was one of the specials of the evening.  Last night I found out that what I had eaten was Chili Crusted Eggplant.  Lightly fried Thai eggplants flavored with sweet and spicy roasted chili sauce, chicken, shrimp, tomatoes, onions and topped with fresh cilantro.

Ingredients for Thai food are mixed together in such a way to create different appetizing flavors.  Thai food plays with your taste buds; it’s like they are having a great party.

Last night my husband then decided to have their Pad Thai with tofu and extra peanuts.  Completely forgot about the Vietamese soup.  It was a large portion, almost enough for 2 people.  Rice noodles with tamarind pulp, bean sprouts, red tofu, egg and crushed nuts.

I decided on the Duck Grob Roasted Chili.  It was one of their specials.  Roasted Chili, sweet crispy honey duck, crusted eggplants, tomatoes, onions, sweet and spicy roasted chili sauce.  I love the Thai eggplants and this dish was really good with just enough kick.

Biologists consider eggplant to be a fruit and not a vegetable.  An eggplant can absorb almost any flavor from any of the ingredients in a dish as well.

For dessert we had the imported mango, sweet sticky rice, topped with coconut cream.  The last time I had it it was so good.  This time, well not that great.  The mango was a little hard and not good at all.  This is not the mango season in many parts of the world so maybe that was the reason.

All in all, our meal was very good.  Lily Thai is like a neighborhood restaurant; don’t feel like cooking and want flavorful and colorful food?….then you know where to find it now.

Talk to you later….

Lily, Thai Cuisine, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

I am on a roll.  Oh, yes, I have been on an ethnic food kick.  Besides the Indian restaurant I reviewed yesterday I also went to see how Lily was doing.  Lily is a restaurant that opened a couple of years ago.  I only found out about it this past year.  Have gone several times and will keep on going because I enjoy it Thai food very much.

Thai cooking incorporates all 5 tastes; sweet, sour, bitter, salty and spicy.  Definitely, there is a sense of balance in Thai food.

A Thai meal consists of a single dish or it will be rice with other dishes served at the same time to be shared by all.  A lot of times there are more dishes than guests at a table.

Lily is located at 10 N. 1st Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  The tel. is 302-227-3348.  If you have been to Rehoboth then you will find the restaurant right between Nicola Pizza and Adriatico.  Lily opens 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

I decided to go the other night and have dinner because I really did not feel like cooking.  It was one of those nights.  Cold and I was lazy.

Up until recently you could bring a bottle of wine and they would cork it for you.  At the moment, you cannot do that anymore.  The reason?  They were approved for the liquor license but the restaurant still has to go through some formalities.  Therefore, not now but in the next few months they will be ready.

I started with the Larb Gai.  I always order this dish because I have had it in Boulder and in Florida, but at Lily’s is where I like it the best.  It consisted of ground chicken breasts tossed in lime juice, red onion, Thai herbs and fresh mint.  It was spicy and perfect for 2 people.

My husband ordered a Roasted Duck Curry.  It was a slow roasted honey boneless duck, pineapple chunks, tomatoes, young bamboo strips, hot peppers in red coconut curry and basil.  It was spicy, just like he likes his curries.

I really loved my dish.  I had never had it and I can venture to say that it has been one of the best.  It was Sweet & Spicy Chili Crusted Eggplant.  The dish had lightly fried Thai eggplants, flavored with smoked sweet and spicy roasted chili sauce.  Then, topped with chopped chicken, tiger shrimp, and cilantro.  It truly was delicious with that sweetness and heat complementing each other so well.

I forgot to take a picture of our dessert, which was a mango over sticky rice topped with a coconut cream sauce.

It was a casual dinner on a cold and quiet night in Rehoboth Beach…..talk to you later…..

Note:  Lily also has carry out.
